Tez Johnson On Bucs Receivers At Full Strength

Stoked that all Bucs receivers should suit up today.
Even though rookie Ted Hurst only got three targets last week, all in a row, all in the final offensive drive, he demonstrated just how deep the Bucs’ bench is with receivers.
And it’s getting stronger now as Jalen McMillan is expected to suit up for his first game of the season, though KitKat-eating Bucs coach Todd Bowles cautioned his status is a game-time decision.
If McMillan is healthy, he is a No. 3 receiver and on most teams in the NFL, he’d likely be a No. 2 and maybe a No. 1. (Other Joe thinks McMillan hasn’t proven he’s a No. 2 yet.)
And Hurst is the Bucs’ No. 4, and he could be a No. 2 for several wide receiver-needy teams. That’s how deep the Bucs are.
Yeah, Joe hasn’t forgotten about Tez Johnson. He might be able to start on some teams and with the Bucs, he’s a No. 5 receiver. (Other Joe thinks Johnson is not a starting caliber player.)
Joe spoke with Tez this week and he’s pumped to have everyone available.
“We can be really dangerous,” Tez said. “We’re just happy to have all our pieces back.
“It is always good to see all our guys back on the field together.”
The Bucs’ receiver room is tight. Hurst raved to Joe this summer about all the help he has received from all receivers. Everyone one of them. And Hurst seemed taken aback at how the Bucs receivers welcomed him with open arms even though, in theory, he could take someone’s job.
Tez explained how Bucs receivers were shook up at how McMillan was the victim of a cheap shot in Pittsburgh by a piece of Steelers camp meat trying to make a splash play. McMillan was undercut in a Bucs worthless preseason game and didn’t return to the field until mid-December.
“It’s going to be special seeing [possibly take the field today after] he missed half the season like he did last year,” Tez said. “It’s going to be pretty fun watching him take the field and get his feet back underneath him and go out there and play.”
Tez was genuine in his concern for McMillan and excitement for his return. That’s because, Tez said, the receivers know if someone makes a play, they all make a play.
“One-hundred percent,” Tez said. “We get pumped for each other. We always want the next man [up] to have success too.
“I definitely think your individual success is no bigger than the next man’s. You want to see your teammates get the ball.”
Bucs offensive coordinator Zac Robinson has yet another toy to play with today. Joe hopes that allows him to be even more creative in building a winning game plan.

That’s a fantastic (and selfless) way of looking at any position group’s success. When one wins, everybody wins.

Scotty Miller was a #5. No shame in that, and he filled an important role.
Tez is just not starter material. He hasn’t shown the long speed or the quick separation to hold down that spot. A gadget player maybe, an inspiration to the fans and a useful piece for the OC perhaps, but not a “starter.” Well, might fit there for the Browns.
Not sold on the hype for the rest of the room. Bucs seem to have three slot receivers, maybe four. Hurst may prove out as a split end; he’s the best prospect there mostly by default. Who else can handle the duties of split end?

Who are these great WRs?
Godwin? If healthy- absolutely
Ebuka? Good first half last season. Disappeared last half. 1/2 great wr?
McMillan? The potential without results guy. The JTS of offense.
Hurst? Maybe! Or Meybe not. Time will tell if small school success=NFL
Tez Johnson- not a good WR. Just the best we had last year
Great WRs? We have one. We can count the pro bowl WRs on this team pretty quick. Guess how many?
From the Hype- you’d think we were loaded with Probowlers.

I saw some glimpses of what might be the 2024 offense again. Let’s build on that and establish the run. It really opens up the pass well, and the pre-snap motion is a big help in causing defensive mistakes.

Godwin was a second string pro bowler in 2019.
Nothing in the 5 years since.
That’s it.
We had a fantastic WR, but he left.
I don’t see a great WR room at all, unless Hurst comes on this season.
Average WRs. Below average Oline. Poor TEs until Sharpe starts to find his feet. Great RBs. Great QB.
Below average offense.

J MAC HAS PROVED HIMSELF ANOTHER BREAK OUT YEAR HE COULD PUSH EBUKA ! WE HAVE A GREAT WIDE OUT ROOM. LETS HOPE ROBERTSON USES THEM DOWN THE FIELD ! QUESTIONS STILL OUT ON ROBERTSON FOR ME ! HE DID NOT DO TO MUCH WITH ATLANTA !

That’s all opinion capt.Tim. Have you noticed that the pro bowl has no merit anymore ? Shedeur Sanders made the pro bowl, What in the world has he done ? You have no argument. I do see where you’re trying to go. In my opinion Tez Johnson should be ahead of JMac because Tez has had some clutch catches for us and JMac can’t stay on the field. Your greatest ability is availability.
