Rueben Bain Is “Foaming At The Mouth”
September 9th, 2026
Hey, Jason Licht, are you expecting a big Sunday in Cincinnati from your first-round draft pick?
You know, does edge rusher Rueben Bain plan to show the NFL world who he is and why teams shouldn’t have passed on him in the draft?
Those questions were posed to the Buccaneers Ring of Honor general manager this afternoon on 95.7 FM WDAE.
Licht made it sound like Bain is quietly waiting to unleash his fury.
“I know that he’s foaming at the mouth to do just that,” Licht replied. “And everything that he’s shown us right now, not just what he’s done on the field — professionally, work ethic and dedication to his craft. Nothing would surprise me with him.”
Nothing would surprise Joe when it comes to Bain’s production, either. But Bain can’t be expected to have a 13-sack season and play the run like a seasoned NFL veteran. It’s just not fair to Bain. Guys like T.J. Watt and J.J. Watt had unspectacular rookie years, so did Myles Garrett, Michael Strahan and many more legends at the position.

You means “JJ whaaaa”? TJ was the man.

Maybe we see less blitzing this season
Maybe we see more man defense, less zone
Maybe we see more 4-3 , less 3-4 defense
Will we rush Bain and Yaya, or drop one in coverage?
We will see Sunday

We already have 7 people on the injury report! Wooooo! Gotta love it! Start off with the walking wounded! Why are we always so fragile?

Lakeland … ‘Maybe we see less blitzing this season. Maybe we see more man defense, less zone. Maybe we see more 4-3 , less 3-4 defense. Will we rush Bain and Yaya?’
YES. YES. YES. And oh YES.

In honor to all the people who wanted Goedeke launch in his first season, I’m going to declare him a bust if he doesn’t have 5 sacks after 5 games

More like foaming at the shoulder.

Beej
Yeah, and the ones that want Cody launched, as well. It’s the RTR crowd – Rude To Rookies.

Some rookies enter the league with butterflies. Rueben Bain apparently entered with rabies.

You have to let rookies develop at some positions and edge is a tough one.
We finally have some edge debth. Still hope he dominates.
If we need a rookie to really hit the ground running it’s Trotter.
On a non-rookie note, would also love to see Parrish thrive on the outside… and is it too much to ask Zyon to be locked in and not so bored? Just asking out loud… for all that’s good and holy.

We passed on TJ Watt by the way. In 2017.
We drafted OJ Howard instead!
Just three years after wasting a 2nd on Austin Sefarian Jenkins.
Lesson? The 1st and the 2nd are for the trenches! Not tight ends!

So, his injury is rabies?

It is unfair to compare Bain to those pash rushers named at the end. They are but mere mortals.
I wouldn’t be surprised to see Bain tally 20 sacks with lightning shooting out of his ass between downs but I’ll settle for him making some plays, staying healthy and wreaking real havoc. Jarred Verse didn’t have a spectacular statistical debut campaign but he was effing ish-up all over the field so bad he ran away with the DROY.
I want to see this kid doing it all not just getting sacks. He spoke of creating “levels of football.” Plural. I’m ready to bear witness to it.
Pressure be darned- there is real football about to come out of the oven in a short while! Too bad it’s just an appetizer. We have to wait til Sunday for Bain to introduce himself in that Super Bowl preview game in Cincy.

Did I read the injury report correctly? Bain is hurt??? wtf. I know I am late on this issue. We already managed to injure our #1 pick. Idk. There are a bunch of guys already banged up. Do our trainers suck????

To the whiners here whining about Bain and other players being injured.
This is not flag or touch football, this is the NFL, and these guys and their teammates go full throttle against each other, and now a few other teams in practice and a few live preseason series. Grownass men battling to earn their spot on the 2026 roster.
Would you whiners, rather they not practice hard, just go through the motions, collect their checks? Or do you expect them to play with their hair on fire?
Bodies get injured, when a 285 + lineman tackles or blocks you,..trainers are there to overcome those injuries, not stop them from happening..
As it is now there are to few full pad practices, players need to practice in the gear they will be playing NFL games in, not shorts and shells…
GO!!!!!BUCS!!!!!

Watched the game last night. Stifling defense can win games better than flashy offense.
