“Panic” Gets Endorsed; Bucs Fans Called “Suckers”

The outrage around town is palpable.
Heck, prior to yesterday’s gutless loss to the Browns, Bucs legend Rondé Barber said on his WFLA streaming show he would need medical attention if the Bucs lost, after sitting “with some whiskey in my hand saying, ‘I got a problem, man. I got a problem.’”
Losing to the Browns at home is that bad. Rondé, you have a problem.
The twice-weekly community newspaper that lives behind a paywall at TampaBay.com has a sports columnist. His name is John Romano. He called Bucs fans “suckers” yesterday after buying in to preseason hype. Another Romano column noted “Bucs Armageddon” has arrived.
WTSP, Ch. 10 sports director Evan Closky endorsed “panic” in a postame X post about the Bucs.
Joe’s inbox since Sunday’s halftime is beyond toxic.
Joe could share many other examples of what’s happening from Largo to Lakeland. Basically, the Bucs crossed a line yesterday with their fans. Retaining Todd Bowles was, is, and will continue to be the fundamental problem in Tampa.
When you run a rigid, predictable scheme that forces round pegs into square holes, you leave zero margin for error. The moment the system fails to create easy wins, the entire weight falls on the quarterback to play savior—and that’s where things are completely falling apart.
Baker Mayfield is making terrible decisions, but his “hero ball” mentality is a direct symptom of playing in a broken environment. When a quarterback feels like he has to pull a miracle out of thin air on every single down just to stay on schedule, you get holding penalties, wild scrambles, and brutal down-and-distance situations like 3rd-and-15. Add in his inaccuracy over 15 yards and refusal to slide or throw it away, and his mistakes are compounding Bowles’ schematic failures.
Licht built a talented roster, but Bowles’ inflexibility forces everyone to play out of position—and Baker’s erratic play is actively throwing gasoline on that fire. Until this team moves on from Bowles, the cycle of scheme failure and QB panic will keep holding the Bucs back.

October 2018, the Glazers forced Koetter to launch his friend Smitty after 2 embarrassing losses after Koetter arrogantly said there would be nor changes. The Glazers should force Bowles to do the same thing, fire himself from being DC, let Larry Foote assume the DC title and the play calling. Well I have been posting about the Jason Licht hype machine for a few years. Look at the draft picks that guy hypes every year. You know them all. Most are failures. But with Jason it’s the same old story that repeats itself every year.
To be honest, I didn’t buy all the hype about Bain , but expected him to be better than he is. Same with the team, I was optimistic they would be better this year. Wow was I wrong, it wasn’t the injuries, it was just bad players and bad coaching. I will say at least special teams looks better this year. lol.

Getting different players is not going to change a thing.
The architect of this roster is an abysmal failure. He sucks out loud.
Giving a bottom tier QB a $165 million contract should get you run.
Add to that giving Bowles a contract extension should definitely get you run.
Not being able to teach defense or tackling as a HC\DC is beyond a reason to be fired.
Robinson fits perfectly in this clown car. It’s as if Bowles himself is scheming the offense.

So the 2-7 finish from last year that apparently the organization chose to look away from has now turned in to a 2-9 in their last 11 games with the cherry on top being losing your home opener to the clowns. We all know Bowles should have been gone last year if not sooner. And now, we will have to wait another year and watch more garbage until the owners presumably make a well over due change. Shame on you Glazers! Your dad would be embarrassed. Don’t buy tickets to see this team until ownership shows it is serious about winning again! Organizational ineptitude. As a lifelong Bucs fan who would cry after every one of their first 26 losses as a kid, what disturbs me the most about our current owners is their apathy – they don’t care. They are tone deaf to the cry of their supporters. That’s what hurts the most. Until the on-the-field results impact their bottom line, they will stick with the status quo. Truly sad.

Been a fan since day 1 in 1976. I’ve seen lots of games like yesterday but this team is the first time it has a $55 million QB, overpaid, lifeless players all over the roster playing as if they’re giving us fans the middle finger. No accountability, no fire, just players stealing money. There needs to be lots of change for the sake of change. Trade a bunch of players to clear $$ and make a statement for the next coaching staff.

Todd Bowles is an under .500 coach. The team was 2-6 down the stretch and hired an offensive coordinator that no other team wanted.
I thought 8-9 wins was a reasonable ceiling. That’s not happening. It’s probably a 7 ceiling.
How any reasonable person could think this team was winning 12 games is beyond my ability to comprehend.
There are many bright spots on the roster and the correct offensive HC could turn this into a good team in one offseason. But the glazers are going to need to expand their network and hire a consultant to find the right guy. They can’t just let Licht do it.

I know the trolls are laughing in their mother’s basements. They must be enjoying this right now.
Losing to the Bengals was understandable (though the turnovers were not). Losing to the very worst team in the NFL (for the past 20+ years) was completely unexceptionable.
When they didn’t fire Bowles after last season, I didn’t agree, but I learn to accept it. I actually view it as the right move…because it would allow the Bucs to hire the perfect coach next year.
But…
We’re 2 games in and the time is absolutely right to fire Bowles. Our OC can be made interim head coach. This early, he will have the chance to prove himself…and given how OCs from the Bucs tend to get HC jobs (at least 2 of the last 3), he’ll have a fair shot at it.
If Robinson fails, he’s just the interim HC, so no big deal. Hire someone better.
If Robinson just does okay, hire better.
If Robinson excels and turns things around… in a big way, keep him as HC.
But firing Bowles quickly is a must. I know the Glazers hate to fire HCs during the season, but its the smart thing to do. It fairly allows Robinson to prove whether he can be a great head coach. It gives him the time to prove it. The longer they wait, the less fair it is to Robinson…and the organization.

The only reason the Bucs were mediocre in Bowles first couple of years is because largely it was the team Bruce Arians put together and coached. Slowly we have seen this team underachieve in the last couple years and this year it has gotten worse. A team takes on the personality of its head coach. This team is not properly motivated and as long as Bowles is the coach they will not accomplish what they should. Forget the offensive problems which are many. Bowles is in charge of the defense and they should be a bunch of fire breathing, glass eating monsters. Instead they all look like they just got off there Mama’s tit.

Emotions are running amok, and it’s getting to be very very boring. Commenter after commenter after commenter seem to be doing nothing but ranting. Of course, when the article that they’re commenting on is titled … “Panic” Gets Endorsed; Bucs Fans Called “Suckers” … I guess that invites panic & ranting.
It’s a 17-game season, and we’re only 2 games into it. Thus far the offense has stunk it up, but the defense has made up for it by also stinking. To me, the most impressive player on offense has been Bucky (25 rushes – 134 yds – 5.4 YPC – 11 targets – 11 catches – 49 yds – 1 TD – 8 first downs). Well, except for the fumble.
The most impressive players on defense have been Josiah Trotter (24 tackles (10 solo) – 1 sack – 2 TFL – 1 INT – 1 TD) and A’Shawn Robinson (10 tackles (5 solo) – 1 sack – 1 TFL).
The hero of the young season though has probably been Chase McLaughlin with his total of 6 FGs (out of 6 attempts) plus 4 extra points (no misses). THAT’S what perfection looks like.

I hv to say our Oline is leaky. Bake is under pressure immediately after each snap. Everything collapses and he’s forced to leave the pocket. Give him 3 seconds and see what happens. Oline is overhyped period. Tristan isn’t playing his best ball either.

1 Gave Bowels a huge raise last year as though another team might actually try lure him away when his contract was up
2 Retained him as HC AND DC after leading a monumental collapse against a cake walk schedule, losing players along the way and leading a bottom 10 defense for the nth consecutive year
3 Added insult to injury by gifting Bowels Jr. an internship (symbolically telling fans they don’t give a rat’s rear end about what what you think)

Nothing is going to improve until major changes are made from the top down.Everyone with a football IQ over 50 knew Bowles and Licht should have been given a one way ticket out after last year.
Instead the owners hid under the table and more mediocre to outright bad draft picks were made, over the hill free agents were brought in and huge contract extensions were granted. No plan for a future franchise QB have been made, no trades or quality free agent QB’s were brought on. Who picked up Bridgewater and Easton Stick..Our ridiculous GM.
The defense has failed to improve despite all the false hype. They gave us 17 second half points to a terrible QB. The coach is an embarrassment who looks totally lost on the sidelines. We had a chance on 4th and 2 to go for it and probably put the game away but Field Goal Bowles is scared to death to ever take a chance. I would not be surprised to see him kick a FG on first down.
I have said it many times before until the culture changes at One Buc this team is destined for continual failure. There are NO quick fixes going to happen.

Liam Coen was in the building in 2024, but the damn Glazer kids let him walk to Jacksonville, thereby keeping the Bowels Movement in charge. That should never have happened and we’re paying for it a second year. In fact, when Arians stepped down, the Glazer kids should have said “NO” to Toad being hired to coach the team. He sucked with the Jets and certainly did not deserve a second chance as a head coach.

It was 26 yards and 2 minutes to get it done. What did anyone do in the locker room to figure out how to win during the 2 hours the game was delayed? Why isn’t Chris being targeted more? What happened to the MVP of the Pro Bowl a couple years ago? What happened to his dead aim? Blinded by money or is his head stuck up his…. Next week, bench the ineffective players for a quarter. I predict likely 0 wins this season and season ending injury for Baker. Bucs will lose both times to the Falcons. Nothing changes if nothing changes, last year Bucs went on a losing streak that was mind boggling. Glazers kept Bowles anyway and rewarded Baker for that. Not sure why any of you are so outraged. We are suckers. The Glazers measurement is cash flow not wins. Liam went to an organization that uses wins as a much higher measurements. Liam would have never had the control he has now had he stayed with us. He chose winning over more money. I agree we need to clean house from Bruce down. We also need to be sold to an owner that really wants to win. Most of our guys who left went to organizations where the owners really want to win. Brady is so good for revenue he could dictate to the Glazers, “my way or the highway”. The Brady effect lasted a couple of years but is gone now. We are back to the pre Brady Glazer organization. Yes we fans are suckers.
We are only 2 games into this season. We are also into a 12 to 14 game streak of being poorly prepared to play an NFL football game. We have demonstrated week after week we have big problems. Our offense has consistently looked pathetic.

Last October I bought Panther tix for their home game vs us. I live 3 hours away. Weeks before the game I saw the implosion and gave them to a friend in Tennessee knowing we would lose. And we did. Why would a fan spend money on them?
I question myself watching them at my home on Sundays while I cook and clean for the week.

Wirfs didnt like the weather delay, apparently but to me you need to come out of that break wtih a mini game script ready to score 7. Really no excuses there. You hold the cards the defense isn’t 100% sure what you will do next I just couldn’t believe it.

question: Who bought into the hype for this year? We kept a mediocre head coach who lacks self-discipline and was the architect to last year’s mediocrity. His defenses have been terrible for several years now, and he brought in an OC from a team who barely managed a middle of the pack offense with a 1st rounder at RB, WR, and TE.

I wish we knew who was actually pulling the strings on these decisons. I don’t hate JL for his draft picks, peoples expectations on rounds 1-3 and never missing on a pick is ridiculous.
What was his input on Baker, Todd and Vita. I assumed keeping Todd was an attempt at saving some cash and realizing that if things went poorly they’d have a prime pick in a QB rich draft. But then they sign Baker for no reason, get rid of all their leverage, same with Vita. Extending Vita was even worse than Baker. JL has way too big of an erection for his own draft picks. He’ll be 33 when his contract ends, wtf did they expect? Better to move on too early and trade the player than keep them too long.
