The way former Notre Dame offensive lineman and former fringe NFL player Mike Golic, Jr. looks at it, the Bucs will celebrate for years the stupidity of some NFL draft war rooms.
Speaking on the “Mina Kimes Podcast,” Kimes and Golic took part in a draft of NFL teams. Kimes picked the Bucs’ eighth, and Golic was bummed because he thought he could pick the Bucs later as he remembered Kimes glossing the slimy Saints in a previous podcast.
Kimes mentioned she changed her mind on the Bucs (she didn’t say she picked them to win the division), in part, because she read all the reports from training camp how Bain was beasting against teammates in practice.
Golic then mentioned how Bain sort of reminds him of former Notre Dame safety and current Crows star Kyle Hamilton.
Golic mocked NFL teams for being so anal about Bain’s arm length when it was clear from the gametape that, just like with Hamilton, the Miami Mauler was a baller.
“Reuben Bain is another one,” Golic said. “Like don’t overthink stuff like that. Like that was the Kyle Hamilton conversation coming out of college all over again, where it’s like there’s a measurable deficiency that you want to point to for a player that all he does is ball.”
Hamilton went No. 14 in 2022 to the Crows. He’s a two-time All-Pro safety.
The knock on Hamilton was that he didn’t run a good 40-yard dash even though no one suggested he was slow on the football field.
And, the BSPN talking head Golic said, you cannot go wrong with a pass rusher who has a Deacon Jones-like hatred of quarterbacks and plays like Charles Jefferson in “Fast Times at Ridgemont High.”
“Get the defensive end that plays like he’s foaming at the mouth all the time and seems to genuinely hate his opponent,” Golic said. “That should be like a combine [measurable], just like measure people’s anger and show them things and see if rage flares up, you know, on looking at certain images.”
Joe is so happy that 14 other NFL teams forgot Bain’s gametape and instead nitpicked his arms.

Another man using the word like as if he were actually a valley girl.
Bain has done nothing to this point but receive a ton of hype.
A battle plan is only good until the bullets start flying.
Let’s wait to see how Bain fares against other teams 1st team offense.
If he can be contained then we’re back where we started. A Swiss cheese passing defensive scheme.

Welp, he HAS BEEN going up against the supposed third best O line in football and dominating is “The Word”.
Though it’s true he hasn’t gone up against every single offensive coordinator and such, he will. Given experience and time, he’ll defeat them too.
Cosmo… Come on buddy. Be a bit more positive towards our New players. Screw the coach (whom has proven to be lack luster at actually “coaching”, or communicating, or……) but the new players with upside is something to celebrate.
And yeah, Bain DID help to get his team to the college elite game so THERE’S THAT!

The ONLY QUESTION is How Badly will he be handled by this insane head coach!? The Sooner we get a Savy QB hunting coach with a taste for blood from his D line, THE BETTER! BOWLES IS THE ONLY REASON BAIN “MIGHT” LOOK BAD! And THAT’S A FACT!
Other than The Covering Clown Show that Bozo forces Bain to wear a red nose in, (of which Bain might even be good at that “respectfully”) It’s hard Not To have a Very Happy feeling about our new first rounder!

If Coen was our HC and we had a competent DC, I’d be way more upbeat about this team.
With Bowles I have less than zero faith in our chances to do anything.
My point about Bain is we need to wait and see how he plays in real games.
Anyone looks good versus Todd’s scheme. Ask Cousins and Ewers.

Bain is still a rookie and he won’t be going against 3rd stringers. If he gets 6 sacks his first season call it a win and something to build on. The important thing is that offenses react to him and don’t slide protection to Diaby on every down. The complementary element each can do for the other is almost as important as sacks themselves.

Fair enough… BUT… Bain isn’t bowles. The team revolted for a Strong Reason last season and you can go ahead and understand that the majority of guys left on the team remember and know why.
I DO WANT TO WIN GAMES! I DON’T WANT to be embarrassed once again by what “should be” the LAST ONE TO DO SO.. “The Coach”. But here we are. Our fate for this season is sealed.
And if bowles pulls ANYTHING RESEMBLING the stunt he pulled last year, I’ll be THE FIRST to set up shop outside of Raymond James stadium with “pitch forks and torches” ON SALE WHILE SUPPLIES LAST!
We can only (smoke and drink GALLONS OF hopeium) that bowles learned a SERIOUS LIFE LESSON and now has a clue as of how to retire with dignity at the end of the season. He “COULD” go out a winner. And of course, he’s a large Goomba at this time. We Will see.
But in the end WE ALL WANT ONE THING… TO WIN. Let’s hope beyond reason that we WIN MORE THAN WE LOSE and for the first time ever, bowles finds a way NOT TO look like a lost doe in the headlights and Instead looks like The WEREWOLF THAT’S ABOUT TO EAT THAT DOE FOR THE BIG WIN! DAMN IT!

So many teams passed on Baines because of his short arms. Football is won on the field, not one’s measurements. All these teams failed in their biggest responsibility- one’s performance on the field is the most important thing. His work regimen is also off the chart – a Tom Brady trait as well as his high mental I Q.
Looking forward to seeing the Bucs stuffing the Bengals in Cinnanati

Bain doesn’t have ideal measurables. Neither does a chainsaw, but I’m still not blocking one. Fourteen teams saw short arms. Jason Licht saw a man who considers quarterbacks an invasive species.

I think the media has over hyped Bain. I do like the draft pick and I do think he will eventually be good but I think the expectations may be a little too high. It takes time for edge rushers to develop in the NFL.

This is exactly where I’m at. I’ll be ecstatic (and so will the Bucs) if Bain turns into a perinneal 8 sack player who can consistently collapse the edge – and he’ll be menace against the run from day one. He’s not Garretty or Bonitto, and he doesn’t have to be. He’s Bain. That’s a lot better than the Bucs have had in a few years – I’ll take it.
