Benjamin Morrison Displayed Why Bucs Have Faith In Him

Joe saw things on Sunday afternoon at Mike Brown Stadium in the Queen City Joe never would have bet a nickel on ever happening.
* Baker Mayfield with three fumbles. But Joe, he leads the league in the past two years in fumbles. Yes, but he has never fumbled three times in a game.
* Josiah Trotter had a pick-six — on Joe Burrow! All Joe has seen in the comments since the Bucs drafted Trotter in the second round is that he couldn’t defend the pass. That he was another Devin White, if he is even that good. So what did he do in his very first NFL game? A pick-six against one of the better quarterbacks in the league.
* Benjamin Morrison looks like a pro. Joe has been hard on Morrison only because prior to Sunda Morrison had not proven or showed he was ready to be a starting corner. And that wasn’t facoring Morrison’s injury history. When Jacob Parrish went down with a sprained back on Sunday and Morrison was inserted into the lineup, Joe said in the press box to no one in particular, “Benjamin Morrison against Ja’Marr Chase? This ought to be fun.”
So what happened? Morrison balled out. Bucs coach Todd Bowles raved about his play this week.
“I thought he played very well,” said Todd Bowles, who is stingy with high praise. “He prepared well. He practiced like that all week.
“When he got in the game, he didn’t miss a beat. He tackled well. He covered well. I thought he did a heck of a job.”
Joe doesn’t want to jump the gun, but it was damn promising for both Morrison and the Bucs that he came in off the bench and held his own against maybe the league’s best receiver (Chase) and a guy who is easily a top-10 receiver, Tee Higgins.
If Morrison can come close to playing that way against lesser receivers, now all of a sudden the Bucs go from having a thinner-than-thin cornerback room to having one with depth and maybe a future starter.
Be honest, if Joe told you Saturday that Morrison was going to play significant snaps against the Bengals, you would have thought that was your worst Bucs nightmare.

Please, he was beat for a big gain on 3rd down when we needed a stop. His tackle to prevent a TD only happened because the pass was behind the receiver. Had the ball been placed outside would’ve had the TD. Best we can hope for with Morrison is he stays healthy. Terrible pick where we took him.

He is a substandard corner that would be buried on a practice squad on any other team.
Being the son of a close friend of Todd gets you a second round contract and time on the field.

The physicality from B-Mo stood out to me, my last memory of him before Sunday was him looking skittish attempts to put his hat on guys in the season finale.
Whatever mental business decision he made within himself between that point and now is very encouraging to see manifest. Looked good in the hips sticking with routes and he’s slowly losing the “BBQ” moniker from this fan.

They held Higgins, and Chase down because they easily won without them. That’s not something to celebrate, it’s actually quite damning. Burrow threw to the open TE over the middle all day, which was wide open all day. Plus their running game was clicking. The fact that they cruised to victory without those two should set off alarms.

Was watching game with a buddy from Cincinnati that exclaimed ‘who is that guy?!’ (referring to Benjamin Morrison) after one of his first (of several) textbook tackles. Explained how down fanbase expected little (at best) from 2nd year CB, whom turned out of the bright spots in week 1.
Mayhaps a bit premature to write off the young man so early in his professional career. Keep it up, B-Mo!

I remember a while ago the Bucs had a corner who was pretty much useless his rookie year, but he turned out OK.
I think his name was Randy or something like that. Pretty sure his brother was a running back.
Also remember a safety people said couldn’t cover a parked car when he got here. Some dude that works in the front office for one of those teams out west.

I’ll give Morrison credit. He looked pretty good on Sunday, but is it an aberration or trend? Who knows anything about the future of this bumbling organization?
We have owners who are scions. They have no idea what leading a poor to regular life might be like. Result: inability to discern reality from their dreamlike concept of it.
They extend Bowles when they had a far better option in the building.
They pay a quarterback coming off a 2-7 finish an outrageous sum when there was no need to pay him for another year. NONE!
Their foolishness continues by putting their GM in their RING OF HONOR with a career losing record. His one claim to fame? He signed a 40-year-old Tom Brady who was unwanted by most all other teams at the time. Licht got lucky, and Brady did the rest.

Sorry, this article was about Ben Morrison. I got sidetracked from frustration. We fans, the support chain who play the biggest part in the success of our respective teams and the NFL in general, are ironically a helpless lot with no say in any matter. When you actually look at the numbers theres no turnover machine. last year Baker would give you an extra fumble over Burrows ONCE every FOUR GAMES
and here’s the kicker – thats NOT turnovers because they were lost fumbles only a third of the time.

No I wouldn’t Joe but the Bucs remand high on him despite all the criticism from the Media and fans. Between him and Parish the Bucs corner back room lookes vastly improved and set up for the next several years. Neither Rome nor the Bucs were built in a day. Morrison was drafted while still recovering from injuries, so he needed all of last year to recover.
The Bucs are trending in the right direction. Iron sharpens iron so the more playing time they get the better the Bucs defense will play.

It should not surprise anyone that he played well. This was the expectation all along. The only question has been his availability. I mean, he would’ve been a first rounder has it not been for the hip surgery. So, we should assume this good play will continue and pray he stays healthy. He gets a mulligan for his rookie year.

His college tape was so good, he looked like an NFL corner – just physically, the way he played, the speed, confidence, etc.
I know many of the overreacting dummies were saying he shouldn’t even be on the team – but they’re the same idiots would have called Lynch a bust, Barber a bust, talked about Sapp being a bust when he didn’t dominate the NFL his rookie year. They’re just very stupid people who have zero grasp for history, and how MOST NFL players don’t have great rookie years. Some do, some don’t, but writing off a guy after an injury plagued rookie year is stupid. That’s not to say Morrison is now going to be a future HOF, but I’m glad he showed up and had a good game. Now do it again.
