Why Was Sean Tucker On The Field?

Joe can only think of one logical excuse for this and sadly, people may jump to the wrong conclusion.
Joe has a hunch on a few other teams; Bucs running back Sean Tucker could be a No. 1 back. As it is, Tucker gives the Bucs perhaps one of the best 1-2-3 punches in the NFL at running back.
How many NFL teams have a No. 3 back like Tucker?
So Joe doesn’t know why, especially with a running back, the Bucs had Tucker out there to absorb punishment. Running backs have short shelf lives as it is.
Has Tucker not demonstrated he’s a quality running back off the bench? It seems whenever he has been given a chance to carry the mail, he delivers.
So Joe was uncomfortable seeing Tucker out there in the second quarter in a worthless preseason game. The only logical reason why he should have been out there (and Joe doesn’t know if this is an issue or not) is if Tucker might be struggling with the new playbook of Bucs offensive coordinator Zac Robinson.
Joe vividly remembers seeing Jalen McMillan go down in Pittsburgh last summer. All it takes is for some idiot piece of Jets camp meat trying to make a splash play for Tucker to go down.
Joe thought Tucker on the field in the second quarter was a bit reckless.

He’s our best short yardage and fastest RB. Save him. Give the work to Josh Williams and guys I don’t even know their names.

Not getting hurt has become the number one objective of preseason football for guys that are good enough to already know they’re gonna make the team.

I thought I was seeing things he also was the kick returner after they scored with 9 minutes in the 4th. He kneeled on it in the end zone didn’t return it. But he was the kick returner after I did a double take because I thought that was really odd he would be the return man in the 4th quarter

Nothing to worry about, Bucs have the coaching, depth, all they need. Super Bowl run started today, beating a very good and well coached Jets team.

Sean Tucker’s usage is number 76 out of 20 concerns I have about the Bucs this season.

Let’s keep it a BUC: the man is third string!
If he was actually HIM, all 31 other teams wouldn’t have left him on read or passed him by when he was an unrestricted free agent this year.
Again: He. Is. Third. String.

On top of that, Sean Tucker only got four carries.
Four.
That isn’t an “absorbing amount of punishment.” That’s light work.
Let’s ground this in reality: Tucker is a solid depth piece—but he’s not Derrick Henry, so there’s no reason to give him the museum-glass treatment. Yeah, he’s got burst when his number is called. But he absolutely ain’t got the juice to be sitting out preseason games like an established vet.
Check the receipts. Last year, he averaged 3.7 yards a pop, only saw the field for 15.6% of the offensive snaps, and had to grind out 127 snaps on special teams just to get on the grass.
Again, you don’t put a rotational guy in bubble wrap. Let that man get that work.
That’s basic coaching 101.

God forbid Curt Cignetti, Ryan Day, Jim Harbaugh, or Kirby Smart let a 3rd-string rotation piece touch the field during a spring ball scrimmage. 😱
Could you imagine trying to tell any of those guys that an RB3 is too precious to take reps in an intrasquad run-through? They’d laugh you right out of the facility.
You don’t build a winning roster by hiding your depth guys from contact. You put the pads on and find out what they’re made of.

As good as Tuck is he is still the 3rd string RB. I expected him to play a bit and he did.
