The One-Minute Drill

Happy with first at-bat.
On Wednesday, the Bucs didn’t have a two-minute drill to end practice; they had a one-minute drill against the J-E-T-S, Jets… Jets… Jets.
Well, 1:06 to be exact. The ball was placed at the Bucs-20. Ted Hurst blew up, catching two passes including a 25-yard grab, and pulled a Mike Evans, drawing a defensive pass interference call.
Chris Godwin also had a key catch in the drive, capped off by Cade Otton’s touchdown.
To hear Barton, the Bucs center said that was the first time the Bucs ran any variation of a two-minute drill this summer against anyone not wearing Bucs colors.
And the result was perfect.
“That was awesome,” Barton said. “We kind of marched down the field; receivers made some good plays.
“From what I could tell at least, [we] protected well up front. That’s what you want for your first live look at a two-minute drill.”
That was also without Tristan Wirfs, who is still nursing a bum hamstring he injured in a conditioning run right before training camp opened. Wirfs has yet to practice this summer, though Tuesday he ran on a side field.
The way the Bucs efficiently and quickly ran through the Jets defense, with a green rookie leading the receivers, was damn impressive. For a training camp practice. Against the Jets.

I hope that Ted is learning how to draw some PI’s, love those on the deep balls.
Joe Burrow played last night and played well despite some sacks. Our DL will have to put Burrow down to beat him. I want to see the defense get two-minute drill sacks in real games. The pass rush at the end of games has been poor. Let’s see what happens this season.

I watched practice highlights on a Jets web site. Effective pro Jets editing.
You would have thought our defense was fully porous (like last season) and the Jets were torching the Bucs D throughout from the videos point of view.

Say what you want BUT starters do need limited playing time to get in sink for the season. A drive or two is enough. Old guys like me remember the days of SIX pre-season games. Seems like there are so many injuries due to players not being in ‘game shape’ early in the season. ‘Lovie Jr’ already stated starters will not play against the Jets.

I know it’s difficult at times to hear (or see) a person being “negative” towards something that you admire and love.
But sometimes we need people in our lives that are more “realistic” and are willing to be the bearer of “realistic” news…
I don’t like it anymore than you do.
But this team is mediocre at best.
PFT agrees – as they have the Bucs ranked #21 in the NFL.

7-10 – Maybe worse once Mayfield gets injured AGAIN.

I can’t disagree with that. It reminds me of believing being sold a bill of goods in 2025 for SirVocea Dennis and LVD, and that Braswell was going to shock us all.
I like Licht. I think he is a good GM, typically drafts well. But 2025 brought him down a few notches

Senor you’re the man. Keep posting my friend. Football is (at least) for me a way to escape the daily grind for a bit and have some fun.
This site is just full of the Marine types that log on just to whine and everything. I mean this here article is a nice piece about a good moment in camp and in comes the Debbie Downer to put a negative slant on it.

I don’t dislike our GM but he is mediocre and if it wasn’t for Tom Brady and his buddies – Gronk, AB and Fournette – our “ROH” GM would have been fired out of our cannon and would be currently working as a scout in Cleveland…

Being in the Army, I was taught to analyze best case scenario, worst case scenario and most likely scenario then plan accordingly. I viewed that as the optimist, pessimist and realist planning guide. Just looking at Bowles win/loss record as Bucs coach, I agree with you that 7-10 is possible and I put that as my basement (with no injuries and with injuries that would drop) and I see 10-7 as the ceiling. Most likely for me is 8 to 9 wins. Bowles best season was 10 wins and we have had two seasons with 8 wins and one with 9 wins. I just don’t see 11+ wins which I would love as a fan but realistically just don’t see it. Like you I’m HIGHLY skeptical of the CB position and depth. I don’t see Bowles as a good coach. Baker CAN be amazing with a good OC, Oline, run game but far more inconsistent without them and worse when he is injured. Yes any good QB will struggle with a bad Oline but some still prevail like Burrows. Then add in the GM doesn’t want to pay what Vita and Baker want which does seem like the reasoning is based off not wanting to commit 80 million or more to two guys over 31 as you want cap space to entice a new head coach in case the season is 7-10 or worse.
Love the team but I’m skeptical too.

Just shows how much you know about me or my opinions of this extremely mediocre franchise.

My best case scenario for the Bucs is 7-10.
After injuries to most of our lineman any CB and our QB – my best case scenario is 4-13.
At this juncture I agree with PFT – 21st ranking in the NFL.
I would LOVE to be proven wrong.

Well, I’ll be happy to step in as a troll here. I am all for shipping TB AND JL out on the next “Cruise to Nowhere ” (if they still have that boat). TB- -we all know his faults. JL- -a little less obvious but, lack of adequate backups, going to sleep after the draft and waking up at end of season, pissing off your best offensive and defensive players, waiting for Bain to drop in his lap rather than trading up ahead of the Rams (WHO SHOULD HAVE TAKEN BAIN) because he loves his draft picks.
I’m for getting rid of them both. If ever there was a time for 813’s door it’s TB/JL!

I get it. Last year was harsh, man. But…we should also consider how the Bucs looked before those injuries kicked in. The Bucs offense was playing like a Team of Destiny before that.
The only way I see us winning only 7 games is if Baker Mayfield gets a season-ending injury.
Last year, the team had rotating third strings as starters in a lot of positions. It makes sense that they would quit…there’s a reason they are depth players and not normal starters.
It feels like this year the coaches are paying more attention to the backups than usual. Making them more mentally tough.
On top of that, Special Teams is being addressed in a big way.
This team is better than before the bye last year now. Better depth. Better Defense. Better Special Teams.
No way they only win 7 games. I’m not going to officially make a win prediction, but…I think 10 or more is a reasonable assumption.

Who else on our schedule will the Bucs defeat this season?
– Ravens – NO
– Cowboys – NO
– Bears – NO
– Chargers – probably not.
– Bengals – not week one in Cinci.
– Packers – toss up
– Rams – when is the last time we beat the Rams?
I’m willing to listen to any differences of opinions here folks.

Losses- -Cinncy, Dallas, Detroit, Baltimore, Rams = 5 Losses
NFC South- -4 wins(generous), 2 losses = 2 Losses
Toss ups- -Minn., Green Bay, Pittsburgh, Chargers =2 Losses
Best guess – -8-9
