Bucs 2026 Training Camp Day 13 Practice Notes

August 18th, 2026

Deshawn McKnight (Arizona) sheds the blocking sled and looks to level a tackling dummy in Tuesday’s Bucs practice.

Fun day at One Buc Palace. Fun in who showed up.

Bucs co-chairman Joel Glazer was in attendance at today’s practice. He tried to be incognito, wearing a red Bucs cap, black shirt and khaki shorts. He was still spotted.

Among the folks Joe noticed Glazer talking to one-on-one were Bucs AC/DC-loving general manager Jason Licht (for a long time), KitKat-eating Bucs coach Todd Bowles, Vita Vea (briefly), Chris Godwin, Emeka Egbuka and Zyon McCollum.

There may have been more but Joe also had to watch practice.

Additionally, SiriusXM NFL Radio superstar Pat Kirwan was at practice as part of the channel’s annual “Training Camp Tour.” (Trivia question: Who with the Bucs at the 1986 NFL draft turned in the card to the commissioner with Bo Jackson’s name on it? Answer: Kirwan.) It’s two hours of non-stop Bucs talk with several players, including Baker Mayfield, and maybe Licht and Bowles.

And, Bucs Hall of Fame corner Rondé Barber showed up. That’s not all that surprising. The Bucs’ preseason TV color man no stranger to One Buc Palace.

So away from the field, it was fun.

Now, to practice on the practice field: Some players who did not practice were Cade Otton, Jalen McMillan, Egbuka and Vea. McMillan, however, was in pads and he did work out with a trainer away from the main practice field.

So let’s get rolling:

* Joe was heavily screened again today, maybe the worst so far between underwear football and training camp. In fact, when Joe did have a decent vantage point, the Bucs erected a human wall of players to stand between the media and the practice field. Sadly, Joe is not Superman and cannot see through bodies. When the Bucs, late in practice, were some 130-140 yards away and had the wall of players shielding the field during red zone offense, Joe just gave up. So apologies beforehand.

* With Otton standing in shorts wearing his Bucs jersey and Bucs cap on the sidelines, Payne Durham and Bauer Sharp got quite a few snaps with the first-team offense. Meanwhile, Devin Culp was mostly logging time with the third-string offense. Feel free to do the math there.

* Baker Mayfield soars a bomb down the left seam but it is too long for Kameron Johnson.

“You need a cornerback, Jason. A corner!”

* Kenny Gainwell with a big run down the right sideline.

* Jake Browning returns to practice and connects with Dennis Houston down the right hashmarks.

* Josh Williams runs to the right.

* Gainwell with another big run.

* Mayfield throws to Sharp on the right side. The ball hits Sharp in the hands but he cannot haul it in.

* Chris Godwin catches a Mayfield pass on a crossing pattern from left to right near the sideline.

* Jalon Daniels tries for Dennis Houston near the right sideline but it is too long.

* Dean Patterson catches a Daniels pass near the right sideline, cuts in and get some good YAC.

* Mayfield tries to throw a pass over the middle but A’Shawn Robinson swats it down.

* Mayfield aims for Payne Durham in the far right corner of the end zone. He battles Ayden Garnes for the ball and the rookie undrafted free agent corner wins.

* Godwin pulls in a Mayfield pass in the far right corner despite good coverage from Damarion Williams.

* Mayfield moves to his right and hits Gainwell to the right. However, it was awfully close to a YaYa Diaby sack.”

* The Bucs defenders are not taking guys to the ground. On this play, defensive backs didn’t even want contact. Bucky Irving ran to his right and Joe saw secondary players quite literally jump out of his path to avoid contact.

* Williams catches a pass from Daniels over the middle.

* Sean Tucker runs left and turns it into a huge gain.

* Browning hooks up with Godwin over the middle for 10 or 15 yards.

* Joe doesn’t know what happened on the play but he saw Ted Hurst block Tykee Smith and Smith took issue with it and blasted Hurst with a big two-handed shove in retaliation.

Red zone

* Things are beginning to get chippy on this hot morning (that really cooled off when the sky became overcast. Durham caught a touchdown pass in the end zone along the right sideline. Joe heard some hollering and the next thing you know, Joe saw 6-8 Bucs players in a mosh pit.

* Browning completes a pass to Patterson along the right sideline for a score.

* Browning tries to throw an over-the-shoulder ball to Dennis Houston in the far left corner of the end zone and Houston couldn’t bring the ball in.

The Bucs resume practice Wednesday at 8:30 a.m.

Another Mayfield errant deep pass and another batted at the los. Franchise QBs don’t waste plays like that.

  7. Mobucs Says:

Joe, I think there’s a coach in North Carolina who could give you tips on observing blocked practices. Why not give BB a call?

  8. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

Dennis Houston is really not taking advantage of his opportunities.

  9. BakerFan Says:

I hope the comparisons end there…. Evans body is breaking down, different injury everyday…. still giving his over under at 7 games.
