Vita Vea Reported To Training Camp
July 28th, 2026
Today was player check-in day at One Buc Palace for the start of the 2026 season.
The first training camp practice is tomorrow.
One guy who showed up, per what Joe was told and per a Buccaneers.com photo array of players arriving, is Vita Vea.
The Super Bowl/Pro Bowl defensive tackle has asked to be traded, but it appears he likes the Bucs and himself enough to show up and try to avoid a fine. Players can be fined up to $50,000 per day for missing training camp.
It’s unclear if Vea will practice tomorrow in any capacity. It’s also unclear whether the Bucs will fine him if he doesn’t.
Perhaps Vea showing up today means there’s hope for Vea and the Bucs to reconcile and keep him on the field. Sadly, it feels more likely that Vea probably came to work to avoid a fine.

July 28th, 2026 at 5:45 pm
What an s show this season has become and we haven’t even played a worthless preseason game yet smh
I have a feeling Joe is going to hear a ton of stories that are “off the record” that he will not be able to tell us.
July 28th, 2026 at 5:45 pm
Pay the man or trade the man. It’s that simple. Don’t try and hardball one of our better players of the past decade. He’s a beast. Deserves a raise or a trade. Go Bucs!
Ownership>Licht>Bowles are the pain points in that order.
July 28th, 2026 at 5:49 pm
Who else thinks Vea will hold in with a mystery injury. The days of hold outs are over. Now they participate in everything but getting on the field.
July 28th, 2026 at 5:54 pm
He’s the best player on the best part of a terrible defense. Getting rid of him is just insane. You are not replacing him with a draft pick. Pay the man, its that simple. He’s way more deserving than the middling QB.
July 28th, 2026 at 5:54 pm
Vea being besties with Suh is both a blessing and a curse. I always like Vea and I hope the Bucs keep him around, but I understand this is a business and sometimes it just doesn’t work out like you want it to.
July 28th, 2026 at 5:57 pm
Big guys like Vea don’t have as long a playing carreer. The most important signing is Baker, so get it down and get a 2nd round pick for Vea. Finding playoff contending Quarterbacks isn’t easy and the Bucs have an unfortunate history of ever drafting a true franchise quarterback.
July 28th, 2026 at 5:57 pm
They are not going to let him practice if they are trying to trade him. Need him to pass a physical to be traded.
July 28th, 2026 at 5:58 pm
See, this is the part that gets lost in the trade-demand noise. Vea files his request, business is business — and then he still shows up on check-in day and does his job. That’s not a guy holding the building hostage. That’s a pro.
And spare me the “he only came to dodge the $50K fine” spin. A dude who’s been the anchor of a top-five run defense for damn near a decade doesn’t need to be shamed into the building over money. He showed up because that’s who Vita is — it’s the same damn reason he’s been great pro on and off the field this organization. You want to know what kind of dude you’re negotiating with? He just told you. Re-sign him and quit playing games.
July 28th, 2026 at 6:01 pm

July 28th, 2026 at 6:02 pm
…he doesn’t need to be shamed into the building over money. He showed up because that’s who Vita is — same reason he’s been a great pro on and off the field for this organization the whole time.
July 28th, 2026 at 6:02 pm
I still think he is concerned this team will not do well and that means not getting the incentive payouts he is expecting on his current contract, if this team goes to the playoffs and more. The Glazers don’t do guaranteed money, unless you are Tom Brady. They give a modest base salary with layers of performance incentives. Losing games means you lose an opportunity to make more money and the meltdown of last season left this crew scarred. They do not trust Bowles to do better than .500. I mean, this is what AI had to say about Bowles…
Defense underperforms his reputation — as a defensive “guru,” his scheme has repeatedly been picked apart by mediocre-to-bad quarterbacks; the defense ranked outside the top half of the league in points allowed and had the league’s worst red zone defense in 2025
Chronic post-bye collapses — a recurring pattern nearly every season, capped by the 2025 stretch where the Bucs went 1-7 after the bye and nearly blew a division lead they’d built early
Poor performance in one-score games — inconsistency in close games (at one stretch 4-7 in one-score contests), suggesting in-game adjustments and clock/game management are a weak point
Conservative, stodgy play-calling — criticized as unimaginative and slow to adapt, especially on offense, failing to exploit mismatches or push tempo
Low ceiling even in “good” years — across his head-coaching career, five losing seasons out of eight, only one playoff win, and a max of about 10 wins including playoffs
Defensive personnel gaps not fixed — struggles at inside linebacker and cornerback have persisted multiple offseasons without adequate roster fixes, undermining the scheme he’s supposed to excel at
Wins have leaned on weak competition — three division titles came in a historically weak NFC South rather than through consistently beating strong opponents (notably struggling against top-10 teams)
Accountability/culture questions — critics point to a lack of urgency or edge in the locker room, and his public comments after collapses (blaming players/effort) have been seen as deflecting responsibility rather than owning results
July 28th, 2026 at 6:03 pm
I get players wanting to negotiate early to try and make top money, but if a player is still under contract for another year (or more) is it so crazy to expect them to show up AND be a full participant once camp gets going? Yes one may get injured in camp or preseason and not get that next fat contract, but if they ball out they likely make even more (with the current team or in free agency).
July 28th, 2026 at 6:04 pm
Jalen Carter just signed at 38 Mil per year
VV out stats Jalen Carter over the last 3 years in sacks and tackles
Do you see now??? Pay the man-he has earned it.
July 28th, 2026 at 6:09 pm
VV has a zero guaranteed salary this year. Of course he reported
July 28th, 2026 at 6:11 pm
It’s funny the Eagles can pay anyone any amount , any time . We have trouble paying Jack dookie
July 28th, 2026 at 6:13 pm
Quite frankly, football just isn’t as much fun anymore. Between these distracting contract issues where guys aren’t happy with the obscene amounts of money they are making. The team gives them boatloads of guaranteed money only to see them get hurt and miss a bunch of games or worse or they just get bored because there is no incentive. Here we are obsessing over these things and the training camp is just starting. Who will be the first to get hurt or disappoint and the season gets torpedoed like last year. Football is supposed to be ENTERTAINMENT. I ain’t entertained anymore.
July 28th, 2026 at 6:18 pm
I could see raising his salary to the low 20s and guaranteeing it for the year, maybe 2. Any more than that and the DT contracts are getting insane.
July 28th, 2026 at 6:18 pm
Sign vita and let baker walk baker carr deserves to be paid anywhere but in tampa
July 28th, 2026 at 6:21 pm
Well it Vita Vea in ‘top’ shape?
If he goes to the 49ers…. I want a DT back…. I don’t just want a draft pick or picks and and I would also take Brandon Aiyuk, provided that he would go to Tampa in shape and a good attitude.
July 28th, 2026 at 6:21 pm
@lightningvinnie1, very good point, the pigeons don’t have a salary cap, this has to be investigated,by the NFL; what’s going on???
July 28th, 2026 at 6:29 pm
Looks like it’s gonna be one of those seasons if they allow it. I think it’s telling where the owners sit if you’re not paying Vita or Mayfield. If you’re that on the fence about the people why bring the coach back for another year. You knew both guys wanted money at the end of the year, so why waste everyone’s time. Seems stupid to be in the same boat since Feb.
July 28th, 2026 at 6:34 pm
Lefty_R Says:

That is an insane take. That guy is a walking problem, he’s more of a diva than Terrell Owens or Meshawn Johnson ever tried to be. The wanting a DT back is smart but Aiyuk is bad juju.
If Crosby is available, make that trade, throw in a 4th with Vita and be done with it. This season is getting out of control already.
July 28th, 2026 at 6:35 pm
They’re going to move the team to London- mark my words
July 28th, 2026 at 6:36 pm
Test
July 28th, 2026 at 6:39 pm
Regardless of what happens with Vea or Mayfield’s contract situation, they are both under contract for this year and if they feel like they are worth more than they are being paid and deserving of an extension with guarantees, the best way of proving that is on the field.
Both should try to play balls out this season, putting them in an extremely advantageous negotiating position with the Bucs or another team come season’s end.
Holding out or lashing out at the current team will only hurt their value.
July 28th, 2026 at 6:47 pm
Why does it feel like he is just avoiding a fine??? Any details? Or just hearsay?
July 28th, 2026 at 6:49 pm
I hope he gets paid. He deserves it. If Tampa wont pay him I hope he gets traded.
Millionaires over billionaires.
July 28th, 2026 at 6:53 pm
If he doesn’t practice and just stands around, because he “showed up” id fine his ass every single day he didn’t get to work!
July 28th, 2026 at 6:56 pm
If one million a game isn’t enough, send his ass packin.
July 28th, 2026 at 6:58 pm
Licht & Greenberg better be working this out
July 28th, 2026 at 7:09 pm
Via can hold in all he wants. As long as he practices and plays in September.
July 28th, 2026 at 7:09 pm
Why does this team feel like its in a rebuild mode. They didn’t really address the Cornerback situation in a meaningful way. They aren’t going to sign Baker or Vea to a new contract this year. Chances are Vea will either be traded or he’s gone in free agency. Honestly I think Vea wanted out last year. As far as Baker. The team says they want him and Baker says he wants to stay. Its a funny way to show a player he’s wanted. Making him play out his contract on his final year. Says they don’t have faith in his future with the team. I wouldn’t be surprised if Baker walked in free agency on principle. Without Baker this is the worst team in the worst league in football. Strange game Licht is playing. Maybe there’s more to Mayfield’s injuries than we are seeing. Specifically that left shoulder that has plagued him for years. If thats the case trade Baker. Trade Vea. Tank the season. And rebuild through the draft in one or two years.
July 28th, 2026 at 7:12 pm
Trade him !Suh has ruined him, im sure
July 28th, 2026 at 7:16 pm
JefffeeyLane77
Sir, what are you talking about? The team showed they wanted Baker and offered an extension which HE CHOSE NOT TO SIGN. Lol…why are so many people confused about this? If Baker wanted to be here, he would’ve signed. He thinks he’s worth more. We’ll see how that works out.
Give the raise to Vita.
July 28th, 2026 at 7:21 pm
Vea smart he will hold out and get traded off of this sinking ship. Go to the 49ers nobody want to play for bowles
July 28th, 2026 at 7:24 pm
Hes not gonna practice! Why risk getting hurt,Hes got baggage in Suh,hes gotta go!
July 28th, 2026 at 7:28 pm
I wonder if the real salary cap guru was Spytek and not Licht. Time will tell.
July 28th, 2026 at 7:28 pm
At least we would get compensation for Vea if he goes to FA. Baker not so much. Bucs definitely have the leverage over Vea. He won’t hold out.
licht has big problems in ’27. 20 guys going to FA and a lot of them quality players or starters. Cap casualties are inevitable. The cap mismanagement will be exposed big time. These little dust ups with Baker and Vita are just the tip of the iceberg.

That’s because they have an average to above average, yet Super Bowl MVP QB who is making 31 mil, not the 50+ our above average QB wants. They also dumped A.J. Brown, clearing the future books for 100 million.
Roseman, their GM, spends wisely and doesn’t overpay anybody. He dumped Reddick after he had a good year, but he saw the writing on the wall despite that. So we overpaid Reddick after his year with the Jets and got nothing in return.
I loathe the Eagles, but their GM deserves respect.
July 28th, 2026 at 7:35 pm
Im starting to think. They are holding onto Bowles as a transitional coach. Tampa will have $142 million dollars under the salary cap next year. Looks like the plan is to push any contract negotiations to next year. What are the chance of Bowles surviving another year of putrid defense?
July 28th, 2026 at 7:41 pm
Wasnt he apart of that putrid, pathetic, soft as butter ,Swiss cheese defense, that collapsed and went 2-7 down the stretch in the weakest division in NFL history? He needs to play out this year and prove it!!…(The trolls have taught me well)
July 28th, 2026 at 7:46 pm
Hey There Oahu Jimothy
If we get Brandon for free in addition to the 49ers DT Alfred Collins and a draftg pick that would not be too bad
What, I don’t want is all Draft Picks
Or the Bucs kiss and makeup with Vita, by extending him a year and going and getting Jim Schwartz and make him DC and keep Bowles as HC
Although, I am blue in the face with that Schwartz idea
If we get Brandon A for free (49ers pick up a lot of his salary, it is worth a gamble) Maybe he will change his ways
Lastly, I don’t see the Raiders trading Crosby for Vita… no way
July 28th, 2026 at 7:57 pm
Well I wonder what ME is thinking. My guess he is going well maybe the fans see it now. The Organization is going the wrong direction. I agree Vea needs to get paid. He has more than earned a raise. The Bucs could do a short term contract and pay the Man!. Shame on the Organization letting this go to training camp. They have had since Feb?. I am hearing they knew Vea wanted a raise and extension. Well I have been saying the team is rebuilding when they did not get a real CB. So now they not only don’t have a CB other than Parrish, but are willing to let one of the best defensive players on the team go. Let’s see let Baker walk, trade Vea, let McColumn start along with Morrison. Then when Morrison, who can’t cover anyway gets hurt they have 2 back up corners who have never played.
If they are not rebuilding then I guess they are trying to get the first draft pick next year so they can get a qb.
Yes ME is looking smarter every day.
We thought being a fan was hard last year.
July 28th, 2026 at 8:04 pm
@Oahu Jimothy
Right now the Rams are the favorites to get him. Seriously. Yeah if he does end up going there I’d hope they’d get somebody like Fiske or Turner in return & at least a pick.
July 28th, 2026 at 8:08 pm
It’s all the same group of panickin’ fans here (who are never ‘right’ about anything, since they go strictly off of their ‘emotions’ on everything), acting like this is the end of the world, and as if it is something more than JUST ‘PROFESSIONAL’ SPORTS. When literally, EVERY FREAKING TEAM in the entire LEAGUE has to deal with stuff EVERY FREAKING SEASON… Especially, with AGING Players. Period. End of Story.
July 28th, 2026 at 8:12 pm
Mons
Greenberg was and is the salary cap genius.
Everyone knows that.
July 28th, 2026 at 8:14 pm
Perhaps the brass is dumping the roster of premium players to squeeze every nickel then putting the team on the market. I just can’t believe what I’m seeing….joe, say it’s just a bad dream.
July 28th, 2026 at 8:16 pm
What kind of precedent are we setting by caving to a supposed team leader who refuses to honor the contract he was thrilled with 4 years ago? Baker Mayfield is also in the last year of his contract and he’s not crying to be traded. Mayfield intends to “ball out” and make the Bucs pay more for not signing him sooner. Vea and Mayfield have to play good even if they resent the Bucs right now. If they don’t they’re not getting good offers from other teams. The only thing mature about Vea is his 350 pound frame!
July 28th, 2026 at 8:20 pm
Hahaha…the toxicity remains. Lost the team and locker room last year, then retained him for another year. Now players have bolted, retired , and wanting money and the season hasn’t started yet. But last retain the ring leader and king of mediocrity at best. Glazers deserve empty seats and a failure of a season. Trade vea, let bowles get canned and start fresh next year. Godwins ridiculous salary will be off the books too.
July 28th, 2026 at 8:20 pm
@Bee that doesn’t make sense. So if they offered Mayfield $10 mill a year that shows that they want him. I’m sure if your company gave you .05 an hr raise you would be praising them and saying they showed me the money!!! They already have Tomlin set up for next year and he’s choosing the roster. Should have just fired Bowels and got the rebuild going.
July 28th, 2026 at 8:29 pm
Yo Joe
What is going on with Jason Light
First he doesn’t fire Bowles
He literally passed on Sheduer Sanders like 3-4 times in the draft (WTF?) now he’s having second thoughts about Baker long term
Now he won’t pay Vita Vea ?
Also I saw a comment yesterday that said Bane can pass rush but can he drop back into coverage …. LOL
Please no more pash rushers dropping into coverage
July 28th, 2026 at 8:34 pm
Just like Evans, just like Baker they dont want Bucs money. They want to win and not play on an embarrassment of a team. Players want to at least be competitive. With Bowles thats not on the table
July 28th, 2026 at 8:37 pm
They should do the deal I’ve said all along, though the Carter Extension today, only complicates things even more. But, guaranteeing THIS season and then extending him for about $22-$24MIL for next season (fully guaranteeing a small portion of it), should be a fair deal for both sides. Cause, I do NOT see anyone else giving HIM anything any better than THAT. I just really don’t. He’s not worth-it at his age. SERIOUSLY. A run-stuffing NT. I don’t think so. Hell, ALL the Bengals gave Lawrence was just a $10-MIL Guaranteed Extension (up to $28-MIL total), and HE’s only like 28-YEARS OLD. What another typical BAD move by the Bengals. The main thing being, we CAN’T extend him LONGTERM, since we have to make HIM as enticing and as moveable as POSSIBLE, for just in case we find ourselves in ‘position’ to have to do something at the trade-deadline.
July 28th, 2026 at 8:43 pm
I think LUVMYBUCS is a suh burner account.
July 28th, 2026 at 8:43 pm
F Jason Licht. He has all but guaranteed that the contract issues will remain overshadow the team.
Vea is going to be cautious. Baker is going to be cautious.
You think their friends in the team aren’t going to be affected? You think Wirfs isn’t thinking of leaving?
Total mismanagement.
July 28th, 2026 at 8:50 pm
And just like Evans, Vea is showing himself to be a me-first guy. Really good player, but lack of loyalty has caused him to take a step back as a beloved buccaneer. If he is willing to do something like this in the eve of training camp, we’d be better off without him (longer term).
July 28th, 2026 at 8:53 pm
And, Vea already know THIS. I mean, HE KNOWS he’s a sitting DUCK at this upcoming trade deadline. He’s only doing what HE’s got to do, by trying to at least give HIMSELF, some type of control for his future
July 28th, 2026 at 8:54 pm
SUH (lol)
July 28th, 2026 at 8:54 pm
He’s only there to avoid a fine
July 28th, 2026 at 8:55 pm
Used to could is right – LuvMyBucs is Suh.
July 28th, 2026 at 8:57 pm
Todd’s definitely rubbed off on Jason. Our GM aint the same
July 28th, 2026 at 9:02 pm
This team is just toxic. Looks like the season is already headed in the wrong direction. Thanks to Todd and Jason the Bucs are getting ready to tank again.
July 28th, 2026 at 9:06 pm
So who’s excited about our genius DC
July 28th, 2026 at 9:22 pm
Don’t trade him. He has zero leverage. If he wants a new team and a nice payday after the 2026 season, then he needs to ball out this year. Bucs should hold onto him and reap the benefits. If he underachieves well then..
July 28th, 2026 at 9:22 pm
Sounds like he doesn’t want to pay the fine, and is playing warming the chair show up so to speak. I’m sure financial advisor Suh has some more instructions to give him, regarding money.
July 28th, 2026 at 9:23 pm
This team is one bad season away from a semi-rebuild. That they’ve chosen to get lean on contracts says they’re not all-in beyond this season and internally aren’t sold that Bowles will be their coach beyond 2026.
I don’t blame them at all if the goal is still to win another Super Bowl. The current components are going to get them to the promised land. That they aren’t acting like it in the front office is actually a VERY positive sign they take long term winning seriously.
July 28th, 2026 at 9:29 pm
The Bucs are NOT in a “Super Bowl” window, nor are they even CLOSE. And, those teams do NOT get better by ‘shelling-out’ BIG-TIME $$$ on LONGTERM Contracts to OLDER-AGING Players. Bottomline. PERIOD. End of Story. The Bucs FO is ‘playing-it’ SMART. For once, exactly how they NEED TO. You can’t extend Vea for 3-4 years. You just have to tell him “good-luck” and wish him well, at that point. Cause, he’s gonna need it then, if HE thinks HE’s getting anything even remotely close to THAT, anywhere else. NOT a real true 3-4 year deal with any guarantees, He’s NOT. And, I seriously, don’t know WHY “ANYONE” would be so thrilled about doing THAT, while ‘blowing up’ THEIR OWN future salary cap in the process!? On a 32-YEAR OLD NT. It’s Insane.
July 28th, 2026 at 9:38 pm
@ Simeon4HOF Says: “Todd’s definitely rubbed off on Jason. Our GM aint the same.”
Yes HE IS, too!!!! He’s the exact same guy he’s always been. The exact same guy, who was ‘responsible’ for 60% of the Lost Decade (6-YEARS worth of it), until TOM BRADY got here. He’s only showing WHO he’s been. Lazy. Unimpressive. No Instincts. 93-104 Career RECORD. Has NOT drafted a single “PRO-BOWLER” for now, 6-YEARS RUNNING.
July 28th, 2026 at 9:47 pm
@ Miller5252 – NO ONE is “rebuilding” ANY FREAKING THING with Tomlin. He can’t “REBUILD” a thing. Would not even have the first clue WHERE or HOW to begin. He had YEARS in Pittsburgh, and there’s a very good REASON for why over 80% of the fans there, WANTED HIM GONE. And, had for YEARS. No more OLD RETREAD, that the modern day NFL has looong passed by. I mean, you really couldn’t pick a WORSE coach for a “REBUILD.” A readymade ’championship’ team… Now, that’s another story. MAYBE.
July 28th, 2026 at 10:03 pm
Trade him then. 19th ranked PFF DT out of about 60. That’s good. 17th highest paid DT. that’s fair and inline. He’s 31. Offer him 2 years at $40 million or see what you can get for him. He’s very good but not a top 10 d tackle.
July 28th, 2026 at 10:04 pm
And, trust me… The Bucs offered Baker a more than fair deal for both sides, or they just wouldn’t had offered him ANYTHING AT ALL. I mean, BE REAL. I told you people all along, that BAKER was NOT taking this supposed big “Team-Friendly” Deal, that you all kept guaranteeing. And, mostly because, ALL you had to do was JUST pay attention (use your HEAD instead of your EMOTIONS), and look at HIS HISTORY. He didn’t take any “DISCOUNTS” with his current Bucs Contract (he took EVERY penny he could GET), and HE DEMANDED (Dak$) to reset the “QB-market” on his 2nd-contract in CLEVELAND. Annnnddd, His OWN AGENT said the exact same thing during last season with the BUCS… That, THERE WILL NOT BE ANY DISCOUNTS. And, that they’d be seeking VERY TIP-TOP of the market $$$$$. Period. End of Story. Baker’s own EGO, will not allow HIM to learn any lessons. It is WHO he is. Wake TF UP. He has NEVER been this “Team-FIRST” Guy, no matter WHERE he’s been. It’s just that YOU PEOPLE, continue to choose to live inside of this very weird (“adult”) BAKER FANTASYLAND. It’s entirely, DELUSIONAL.
July 28th, 2026 at 10:06 pm
Would rather see Bowles get an extension before they bring in Tomlin. At least Bowles is better with quarterbacks and offensive coordinators. Bowles also has more playoff wins this decade than Tomlin.
Once Bill Cowher’s players got old, Tomlin got exposed as being nothing more than Father Dungy, Jr.
July 28th, 2026 at 10:33 pm
the writing was on the wall which direction the glazera were going when they kept bowles. shutdown mode till licht or someone else rebuilds the team through the draft which could take a long time
July 28th, 2026 at 10:44 pm
What makes no sense to me, is if he does not play and play well under his current contract, his value will do nothing but go down significantly. Suh mislead him a bit. He should have played or at least started playing and play his butt off and then make his play for contract, otherwise he is not showing he deserves the big contract, we have him for 2026 either way.
July 29th, 2026 at 12:37 am
I don’t know if I could survive on a measly 18 million dollars this year. Vea signed a four year 71 million dollar contract, the early years of that contract were top dollar. If I’m the Bucs I tell him to play or not get paid.
He’s 31 and on the downside of his career. He’s been paid well.
July 29th, 2026 at 12:40 am
Vea is greedy and not honoring the contract he signed.
July 29th, 2026 at 12:58 am
My gut says they will give him a bump this year to put his salary above 20m for the season with the promise of continued negotiations. From there they will either offer him a 1 year extension, maybe 2 with 1 guaranteed and a club option on year two, or they will let him test the market next spring. Vita has little to no leverage here.
July 29th, 2026 at 7:13 am
@MelvinJunior I wouldn’t want Tomlin anywhere near this team. I think he has to be one of the most overhyped coaches in the league. I think him and Bowles should leave coaching all together. That doesn’t mean the owners, who like splashes, wouldn’t offer him a job just for the reaction. Look at what NE did after one year with their coach.
July 29th, 2026 at 8:06 am
Again! What is a SB roster/window?? Some of these posts lol!! Joe if Baltimore takes off with Doyle (God knows they’ve had that SB roster / window forever lol !) That should make him a great candidate in Tampa im thinking that’s a real good possibility, according to these “expert window / roster projectors!!
