“Unbelievable” Reviews For Chris Godwin, Emeka Egbuka

July 30th, 2026

Early in-house review.

Joe wishes all fans could see how great receivers Chris Godwin and Emeka Egbuka have looked in practice.

(Yes, Joe knows Godwin got a rest day today — Day 2 of training camp.)

Godwin looks silky smooth, quick and strong, Remember, Godwin was the best receiver in football in 2024 when he went down with a season ending ankle injury.

Egbuka? The guy is a hell of a practice player and has been since he arrived at One Buc Palace last year. He was pretty damn good in his rookie season, too, until the long season and changing roles tackled him from behind.

Today during a visit with Prickly Pete Prisco of CBS Sports, Baker Mayfield broke from contract chatter to laud his receiving corps to the extreme.

“C.G. looks unbelievable right now,” Mayfield said with conviction. “He’s getting back to his normal ways. Emeka is going to take a huge leap from Year 1 to Year 2. Quite frankly, we asked him to do too much last year. We put too much on his plate as a rookie. And he is somebody that’s capable of handling it, but he’s going to take a huge jump. Jalen McMillen looks unbelievable as well.”

Yes, the Bucs have a strong corps of receivers, good running backs, a stud offensive line, a capable tight end — and a quarterback who will command a fortune if/when he comes off a good 2026 season and the Bucs’ front office is pleading with him to stay.

    @Joe

    This is the kind of reporting fans appreciate. Encouraging, football focused, and based on what you’re actually seeing. What happens behind closed doors with contracts is none of our business. Our job is to enjoy football. If Godwin is back looking like himself, Egbuka is making the Year 2 leap, and J-Mac is turning heads, that’s exactly what contenders are built on. We’ll find out soon enough.

    Wake me up Week 1… heck, let’s start with preseason. Until then, let the doom posters keep chasing headlines while the rest of us watch this roster get ready to win.

    If the Oline stays healthy this team can easily finish with a winning record. We might even have some depth this year.

    The D will depend on the Dline because CB might be the weakest group on the team.

    Music to the ears and the soul. Especially a bit extra for CG, the type of guy he is and what he’s been through!

    Awesome news about Chris! He’s going to play a critical role this year!

  9. HeartyDickerson Says:

    We’re just glossing over the fact our $33M receiver is taking a day off after one practice?

    Learning a new offensive system, and we’re just chalking it up to a ‘rest day’? How many other veterans got a rest day in Day 2?
