Todd Bowles Updates Tristan Wirfs Status

Tristan Wirfs mingles with young fans after practice today.
Another missed practice day for Tristan Wirfs and his troubled hamstring.
So how is he doing? Wirfs was on the field watching practice and was all smiles after practice. Joe didn’t see Wirfs jog at all or work with a trainer on a side field.
Joe was told yesterday that Wirfs’ hamstring isn’t serious, but how one defines “serious” is unclear.
Today, head coach Todd Bowles was asked about Wirfs and he had an encouraging tone in his voice.
“He’s not practicing yet but he’s moving better and he’s walking around better, so we’ll continue to monitor,” Bowles said.
Bowled added that he can’t say if Wirfs will be available to practice in two weeks.
The Bucs are not required to publish an injury report until four day prior to Week 1.
As Joe has written, maybe there’s a silver lining in all the extra work for Ben Chukwuma and Justin Skule at left tackle, and how Wirfs might miss most of the worthless preseason games. However, Joe doesn’t like how the pads will come on Monday and Rueben Bain and YaYa Diaby won’t get valuable reps against Wirfs.

Let him sit until the pads come on…Wirfs is a pros pro…he’ll be ready in Sept

Vea wouldn’t be under contract to trade unless done this year. Wouldn’t bother me.

Just speculating on the possibility (or probability) of a complete rebuild after 2026.
T. Wirfs has already stated that he might not want to play after 10 seasons…
Don’t look now but this will be season #7.

Marine – that’s a reasonable question though. Nothing wrong with having foresight and being forward thinking. That’s a leadership perspective, and if you’re a GM then you’re taking stock of what we are as currently constructed versus where we need to be. Further – let’s say we only go 6-11, we’re picking middle of round one. Now we can package those two number one picks from Wirfs to be on position to take an Arch Manning. Have a young stud on a rookie deal? No brainer. I’m not in to getting emotionally attached to guys I don’t know. I’m not in to giving a bazillion dollars to a 31 yr old 340 pound DT. Sometimes in life you have to make tough and unpopular decisions.

Certain guys don’t really need the full load of a training camp. Proven All-Pro veterans, well, let TW take plenty of time to get past that issue.

Exactly.
If I’m wrong and the Bucs go 13-4 and are in the SB I will be pleading to do whatever necessary to keep everyone in place.
However – I truly believe we all know that is a pretty silly suggestion at this juncture…

Interesting thought exercise.
Wirfs would at a minimum fetch 2 first round picks plus a pick of the trading teams offensive lineman. There’s not much depth after Wirfs so they’d need a quality OL returned as part of the compensation for him.
Depending on which team they’re dealing with and the expected range the number of picks demanded could be larger. A team like the Ravens should certainly send more than one like the Cardinals or Browns.

They are just cutting down on the wear and tear. They don’t want a freak injury to occur so they will hold him out until he, or Bain, needs the reps

This is not a 6-11 football team. It’s far more likely to be an 11-6 football team. All depends on health and if they can stop with the self-inflicted insanity.

I am concerned about Wirf’s condition, absent any reliable specific information about it. I also wonder what team would give two first-rounders for a guy who has not even jogged on a field in months.
