Highlights Of Episode 5 Of “Quarterback” With Baker Mayfield

Rough game in Los Angeles.
The following is a brief summary of some scenes in the Netflix series “Quarterback,” a “Hard Knocks”-like look at NFL quarterbacks. Cameras tail them on and off the field. Joe Flacco, Cam Ward, Jayden Daniels and Baker Mayfield are featured this summer.
* Rather than veg on the beach or maybe golf as Baker Mayfield said he often does during a bye week, Mayfield goes to New York City to support two of his brothers-in-law competing in the New York Marathon. There, Mayfield confesses he is fascinated by subways.
* Talking with running backs coach Skip Peete in practice prior to the New England game, Mayfield said, “This is when real ball starts.”
* Speaking after the loss to New England, Mayfield had zero inkling of the collapse the Bucs were about to endure.
* Sitting in the stands at Buffalo, though she isn’t wearing any Bucs gear, a Bills fan sitting to Emily Mayfield’s immediate left asks, “Are you Tampa fans?”
* Speaking on camera, Emily Mayfield said she is always worried her husband will get hurt because “He sometimes thinks he’s a running back. … You have to let Baker be Baker.”
* After the game, Emily Mayfield is trying to console her husband who is still bitter about the loss. “I just can’t throw that interception,” he says.
* The series does a piece of Mayfield with the Rams in which two days before their 2022 game, Mayfield arrived in Los Angeles. Some 70 or 80 plays the Rams were expected to run in the Thursday night game against the Raiders were on Mayfield’s wristband. “Sean [McVay] didn’t call one single play off that wristband,” Mayfield said of Rams coach Sean McVay.
* How did McVay respond? With a huge smile he said, “Let’s not let the truth get in the way of a good story. It might be true.”
* Emily Mayfield said the come-from-behind win engineered by Mayfield on that Thursday night was “the turning point in his career. … He still had it.”
* When Mayfield initially hurt his left shoulder against the Rams in what he described as a routine tackle, he said it even hurt handing the ball off. After he threw a prayer on the final play of the first half, he lay prone on the turf in pain and knew it was bad.

He’s always going to give it 100% because winning is everything to Mayfield. Either you appreciate that — and accept the commensurate risk — or you don’t.
It’s going to be interesting to see whether or not the Glazers place their bet!

I haven’t seen this – but they going in order? Did they completely bypass his celebration of winning the prestigious week 6 MVP of the NFL award – and his complete meltdown in week 7 vs the Lions as the Bucs were number 1 in the ESPN power poll?

Rod, they definitely white washed the Dolphins game. Zero mention of it.

Joe … ‘Emily Mayfield said the come-from-behind win engineered by Mayfield on that Thursday night was “The turning point in his career. … He still had it.”
Couldn’t figure this out at first, since Baker has played in 3 Thursday night games since being a Buc, and lost all 3. Then looked back 1 year to 2022 when he was with the Rams & he brought them back on a Thursday night from being down 16-3 to the Raiders in the 4th qtr to win 17-16.
Interestingly Baker went 10-for-13 on his 1st TD of the 4th qtr, then 5-of-6 on his 2nd TD to win the ballgame with a 23-yard deep pass with 15 secs left. Two ‘classic Baker’ winning drives.
Noticed also that Mayfield DIDN’T get credit for THAT win Joe. John Wolford actually started the game, played 1 series (3 snaps), Rams punted, then Baker replaced him. Wolford however got credit for the win. Bizarre twist of fate that Baker didn’t even get official credit for winning the game that was ‘the turning point in his career’.

But when I say Bake is a RB playing QB I get called a hater and other names. Lol…all the PR in the world won’t help become a better QB. Funny thing, in that Thursday night game when he was playing with the Rams, that comeback was almost cut short cause he threw a pick-six on 2nd down. But it was called back due to a hold. He’s the same player everywhere he goes.

There is a difference between playing for yourself or the team. For your yourself, which is selfish and self centered or looking out for the team because you are a liability. Baker can’t decipher the difference. That’s a serious problem and Todd Bowles is in the center of it all.
Glazers tend to be hands off. That’s a problem in and of itself. Bowles, Jason Licht and the Glazer family need to address it seriously. Not addressing it properly puts the Bucs in the same sentence of the New York Jets.
The media are calling the Bucs a soory ass franchise. And don’t see the leadership in the organization currently to address 😕 it.

Who exactly is giving Wolford “credit” for that win?
Maybe in a box score but no human being is. Not even a baseball box score would give Wolford credit for that win.

Rod’s going to die on that week-6 hill… His fictious award in his head. But he never mentions Bakers’s Award with the Rams. The Nickelodeon’s “NVP” (Nickelodeon Valuable Player) award. A real award. And on Christmas Day to boot!
