If the offer includes a 2nd or higher, you gotta consider it.
If they’re not planning on resigning Vea, or his demands are way out of line, then why lose him for nothing?
He’s a big DT on the wrong side of 30. Anything more than 20-21 mil for two years is too much. That’s comparable to guys playing his position at his age.

There can be more than one answer to this question. If this is a negotiation tactic, then no. If he’d like to go play for the 49ers or Chargers, then get him out of here immediately.

I say no because he deserves a new contract. With that being said if he really doesnāt want to be here and the compensation is good then yes. I donāt want anyone who doesnāt want to be here. It also depends on how confident management is on the players we have behind him. Yes I have my opinion but at the end of the day we have to trust the professionals. I trust Jason to make the right decision. He is the best GM the Bucs have ever had.

My answer is no, because I want the Bucs to have the best chance to win games this year.
That doesn’t mean I am questioning anyone’s “fandom” if they want to trade him knowing it would make the team not as good, but provide something for the future. Setting the table for a potential regime change in 2027 is a legitimate plan.
I just hate that it means not doing the best you can to win this year. I am choosing the year we have now vs. potential. Of course it could be the wrong choice, who knows?

Without Vita Vea this is one of the worst DL in the league. Simple as that.

I’m in the “it depends on what the offer is” bucket.
Vea’s a straight man-beast that we’re definitely going to miss on the defense. How often he gets double-teamed directly impacts the performance of the guys around him. If he goes, so does the pass rush.
OTOH, he’d been dinged-up, he’s getting a little old for a nose tackle, and we’ve got three other starters that are in a contract year and all of them want to eat. The reality of the business is that you aren’t going to be able to keep all of the players you want.
Do I want him to retire a career Buc three or four years from now? Certainly. But that’s not how the League works most of the time.

Jug, that’s what I thought as well but looked it up and they were ranked #14th. They were 19th in sacks also. Not great, but way better than I thought! Makes the LB’s and secondary look way worse than even I expected.

Once a player ask to be traded, then you seek the best offer for the team, not the player! Players who are dissatisfied with their work environment will not put out the effort to be successful!

We finished with the 4th highest pressure rate last season, where our numbers fall off is the frequency of finishing plays in the backfield defending the pass and generating TFLs. That’s why the additions up front have been geared to close the gap between pressures generated and our overall sack count.
Yaya said on Chris Longs’ Green Light podcast that the goal is 50 sacks as a team which is an average of about 3 sacks a game which isn’t some impossible bell to ring.

And this is the real reason some people are saying to trade him. They know we do not have a replacement and it would ruin this year if he were traded. They are willing to tank in order to get rid of Bowles and get closer to a #1 pick.
But let me lay out a different scenario:
š With the offense healthy, including Baker (who will get a new contract), it returns to what we saw before the byeweek last year.
š With the changes to defense, it improves to make a difference of at least 2 games, which would put it near a Top 10 Defense…and would have put us in double digit wins last year.
š We make the playoffs and by then the Defense is really grooving. We win 2-3 games in the playoffs.
Now, all of that is with Vita Vea. Without him, none of that happens. But hey, we got a 2nd round pick for him. Not really worth the price, is it?
And even if he holds out…that would lessen his offers next year, and so would getting injured.
If this were last February and he pulled this before the draft? Maybe. Time to compensate and gather good offers. But if you cannot get a first rounder from a really bad team, do not do it.

No. Asking to be traded is a negotiation tactic. It’s the player’s way of saying “I seriously want a new deal”.
And, from Vita Vea’s perspective, this will likely be his last deal for decent money. However, he should have planned for it when he signed his current deal.
He can ask all he wants. Not giving him a trade or a new deal forces him to play harder this year.

I wish he would stay but Vea wants a 4 year deal making 20+ million (likely 25-28 range given how Jalen Carter got paid a lot more at age 25). Bucs canāt afford that with cap space. He wants more than Bucs can pay so let him leave if he gets a better offer AND we get draft picks or a trade (CB is a need).

Another selfish reason I want him to be here this year is just ONCE I would like to see him and Kancey play a whole year together.
Doesn’t mean it will happen if he stays, but still want to see what it looks like

Ideally, they extend two years at the end of this year but if he insists on four years, then trade him for a second and fourth.
I would not have a heavy backend contract going out four years because heāll be worthless as last couple years
