Big Opening Week For Benjamin Morrison

The Bucs want and expect 22-year-old cornerback Benjamin Morrison to compete for a starting job this morning when training camp kicks off.
But what if last year’s second-round pick is still hurt after a mysterious spring injury, or if he gets banged up this week?
Tampa Bay’s outside cornerback depth is questionable, and it would be downright bad if Morrison has another injury-plagued season. Longtime Bucs fans know a shaky cornerbacks room is a recipe for trouble. Joe still has nightmares from the 2012 season.
Stuck in Joe’s head is Bucs insider and legendary cornerback Rondé Barber on his WFLA-TV streaming show impying that the Bucs could look outside the organization for a starting outside corner. Joe has a feeling that was no random take.
“Who’s replacing Jamel Dean at corner, is it one of the guys that we have? Is it Jacob Parrish? I don’t know,” Barber said last week.
Might the Bucs be looking at free agent Trevon Diggs? The two-time Pro Bowl cornerback is an exceptional talent at 27 years old.
Diggs may or may not have an attitude problem. The Cowboys cut him late last year after he didn’t fly home with the team after a Christmas Day win at Washington. Diggs instead stayed in Washington to spend time with family. He was claimed by the Packers and became a free agent after last season.
Joe isn’t barking for the Bucs to chase Diggs. But if Vita Vea is traded, which frees up cash, and Morrison looks brittle early in camp, Joe wouldn’t rule out Buccaneers Ring of Honor general manager Jason Licht and Todd Bowles bringing Diggs in for a workout and a chat.

Does it really matter who the Bucs have at corner when Bowles just has them stand around flat footed in zone? If Bowles still played his Super Bowl winning aggressive MAN defense (and it was man you low IQ morons that don’t know man from zone) then corners make a huge difference. But if guys just back up at the snap, then stand still, by design and wait for something to happen, it really doesn’t matter who is playing. Well, OK, it does matter, but it isn’t as important as it should be.

I hope to see something good from this kid. His film flashed.
I don’t like the Bucs long history of drafting previously injured players. It doesn’t make sense and hasn’t worked out once to my memory.
I’m also quite concerned about the appearance of nepotism. This was a sentimental pick for Bowles due to him playing with his father. It’s great that Bowles is a father figure but this isn’t youth league. The team needs to win. Also might be questionable that Bowles son is now an assistant coach. Just seems strange to go from underperforming to even more I experienced coaches.
I don’t want a feel good story I want a solid NFL team.
Prove my creeping doubts wrong. I’d love to be wrong.

Wait a minute…How can the guy/gal (Rod Munch) who blames Baker for every Bucs loss come out against the HC/DC? It’s almost as if he/she is contradicting himself/herself.

How many times (probably in the dozens) did Rod Munch say that Baker SINGLE HANDEDLY lost games for the Bucs? Yet now admitting that Bowles defense was terrible. NICE!

If he can’t suit up, cut bait. It would mean he’s damaged goods. It’s not like this is his first time injured. He couldn’t make it through a short college career. Licht could’ve signed him as an UDFA, no team was going to risk drafting him. Licht thought he was fooling everyone jumping to draft him in the second round. Turns out Jason is the fool, the kid will never stay healthy.

I was torn on him from the beginning & I probably would’ve passed on him with all of those injuries. Right now I can see why.

he had a couple good plays last year and a lot of fails and getting burned, he’s gotta step it way up or we are not looking good after jamel left. could we see a list of all the db’s? do we have options? like vildor(ugh) any udfa’s?

His previous injury history was hip-related, which doesn’t seem to have re-occurred. AFAIK, this hammy thing is new

huge year for morrison…cant get any worst than last year imo
LICHT needs to start being held accountable for his whiffs on 2nd round picks…braswell and morrison arent looking too good…

Hopefully new trainer changes his bodybuilder type physique !! bodybuilders are not loose flexible and don’t carry enough water to be athletes. Problem is these clubs cater to these players to much.

It would be incorrect to describe this as nepotism since there is no relationship between Bowles & Morrison….but I get your point ….
His pick was more simply a gamble…..first round talent vs injury status….The jury is still out.

Morrison could well fail this year again, we will keep him for 4-5 years, finally cut him and he’ll be out of football in a year. Sound familiar? JTS, soon Braswell, Next?

Waste of money, could have been given to Vita Vea so we would not be watching him act like a drama queen right now. I don’t know why Boweles and Licht had not chosen to get a veteran CB after or before the draft when Dean left.
