A Baker Mayfield Negotiations Mover?

Perhaps there is a new deadline on the Baker Mayfield contract extension front.
Mayfield says will not negotiating with the Bucs once training camp starts on July 29.
But what about next week? On July 14, Mayfield will be seen featured on the Netflix Quarterback reality series that focuses on Mayfield’s 2025 life on and off the field, along with the lives of quarterbacks Joe Flacco, Jayden Daniels and Cam Ward.
Longtime Entertainment Weekly writer/editor Dalton Ross already watched the series and says Mayfield is the runaway star.
While this writer grew up in Washington, D.C., and is therefore a die-hard Commanders fan, even I have to admit that Mayfield steals the season. There is an impressive number of juicy clips showing epic trash-talking from the master of the form, mixed in with tender family scenes (with wife Emily and daughter Kova) and a super fun bye-week trip to the New York City Marathon.
The Ross take intrigues Joe. It seems Mayfield’s Quarterback showcase will endear him to waves of fans nationwide and grow his stature in Tampa.
That won’t play in Team Glazer’s favor at the negotiating table. Conversely, it should help Mayfield to secure a better deal.
Mayfield’s three-year contract expires after the 2026 season. All it would take is true interest from one team other than the Bucs to skyrocket Mayfield’s value — if he has no contract locked when this season ends.

Honestly, I am surprised how many people seem to blame baker for last season when he literally played his heart out for the team. He succeeded with bench receivers, his third OC (that was didn’t seem ready for the job) and a makeshift offensive line and he played injured. Then when we had a chance to win the defense lost the most critical games…not Baker. Why do you think Evans left? I’d pay Baker $55M per season now before he returns to his 2024 stats and we have to pay him $65M per season. He’s a great leader and community figure, representing the toughness the Bucs have been known for. He played cheap for 3 years, show your team that you respect that and the culture he’s built. Pay the man.

A lot of posters here think we should ditch Baker and drafts one of those rookie quarterbacks next season. With our luck if we did that, we would end up with a Josh Rosen of the bunch. 🤣

Zion’s contract is not guaranteed after this year.

Those folks who are dead set biased against Baker react to any post on this site the way I see buzzards react to dead animals as I go about my daily routine. Daily, they monitor this site seeking the Joes post about Baker, post their biased opinions (which is their right) and then slam those who disagree with them.
When Baker is good, Baker is good, but when Baker is bad, Baker is bad! It will be up to those with the money to determine if Baker’s good out ways the bad!

Baker’s good vastly outweighs the bad. Bad things happen to any QB when protection breaks down and everyone is injured (See Mahomes last season as another example so it’s not just Baker lack of protection affects).

If a Netflix series causes the Glazer kids to rethink their decision on what to pay Baker then they are ever dumber than I already assume.
He was just magical during that 2-7 championship run. Could have been 0-9 real easy. Not even Tom Brady is that skilled.

LM50, you are correct, for several reasons, one cannot compare Baker with Mahomes. First, Baker has never played for a HC with the ability of Andy Reed and probably the real reason, Mahomes has had 2 OC’s and Baker has had 9 OCs

You mean the Mahomes who led the Chiefs to 6-11 season. Who had players hurt, he played hurt but mustered 6 wins…. That Mahomes?
Baker beat Mahomes in college and if he landed with anyone other than the Browns he would be in a different carrer trajectory. I watch Mahomes every week and his play makes me puke, the luckiest guy in the world until the wheels fall off and he spins out a 6-11 record. He had to have the star power around him to make his trash work.

When you sign a contract, you honor it. At least that’s what honorable men do.
When it’s finished you are free to seek a raise or move on.
While your contract is being played out, and your boss sees a spectacular job performance, it’s not uncommon for the boss to give a bonus or a contract extension.
When you complete the second year of a three-year contract, and perform poorly, the last thing you do is seek a raise. If you did, most bosses would laugh in your face.
In a normal world, the employee should apologize for seeking a raise he does not deserve and tell his boss he is more than willing to honor the third year of his contract and prove he deserves that raise.
But the NFL is not a normal world. It’s a place where logic doesn’t exist and honorable men make dishonorable demands.

Last year was a tough one after the hot start.
We WERE on fire!
Lots of issues on both sides of the ball but Baker hung tough.
I’d be pissed if the Glazers don’t hold on to him but I can understand wanting to see how he bounces back this year.
I think he’s gonna be great.
His TB stats are pretty damn good and he’s a natural leader.

• Passing: 2,500/3,938 (63.5%), 28,525 yards, 197 TD, 101 INT, 91.2 rating
• Rushing: 366 att, 1,583 yards, 11 TD
• Record with Bucs: 27-24 (regular season).

It doesn’t matter one iota what any other team thinks Mayfield’s value is at the end of 2026 as long as the Bucs can franchise him for 2027 and even 2028 if they wish.
