Morning Cup Of Joe

June 5th, 2026

Welcome to your Morning Cup of Joe, an eye-opener to help Joe’s readers ease into their busy workday with a few football links, wacky news and a pleasant distraction.

Distraction of the Day

An excellent summation of the “Protect College Sports Act” and how colleges really don’t need Congress to get involved and instead, should use the NFL as a model to let the players unionize and also have a commissioner. [PFT]

How Rams could get a bonus draft pick from Cleveland for Myles Garrett. [CBS]

Cooper Kupp on retirement. [Yahoo!]

Teams under the microscope. [NFL]

Woody Hayes vs. John McKay, O.J. Simpson vs. Jack Tatum. Oh, and Curt Gowdy! [TikTok]

Joe Flacco on Myles Garrett being out of the AFC North. [SI]

So let Joe get this straight: You are trying to tell Joe the mayor of Chicago, one of the most crooked cities in America, can’t get a police escort after a Bears game to avoid getting stuck in traffic? That dude could have a friggin police chopper land in a parking lot and pick him up. [Outkick]

Kyle Long joining NFL Today. Does anyone still watch those awful shows? Talk about a waste of electricity. [Awful Announcing]

Does Myles Garrett make the Rams an even bigger primetime TV draw? [Front Office Sports]

Welp. So much for cheesesteaks. Time to break out the hot dogs and smores. [TikTok]

Maybe yesteryear that could happen. You know the Dirty Harry era..(the original, not the sequel crap) These days most large departments have watchdogs units labeled as “waste, fraud, or financial oversight” for just such activities. One of the quickest ways to be shown the door, or possibly worse, is to misuse a departments funds for personnel escorts or helicopter rides and such.

  3. Joe Says:

Dan: We’re talking Chicago, not suburban Naperville. LOL

Chicago has a rich history of being corrupt to its core. The only misuse of public property that can get a Chicago mayor run is if the snow isn’t shoveled quick enough. 🙂

A Chicago mayor leaving a Bears game in a police chopper wouldn’t even raise an eyebrow there.

    Ricky Williams-

I wonder- if Joe was GM of Bucs , would he trade the entire draft and 2 of top 3 picks next year to get Myles Garrett?

  7. Ultra Clodhopper Says:

That poor city. They’re Mayor and Governor both hate their team

  8. Ultra Clodhopper Says:

Not like the Sunshine state where the Governor LOVES his Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

If Joe trusted the defensive coordinator would use him right.

Personally, I am not a fan of either Brandon Johnson or Donald Trump.

I see too much familiarity in how they handle folks that disagree with them.

Case in point: Johnson took to blacklisting long term City Hall’s employees that were holdovers from the previous mayoral administration. Trump sidelined long term Department of Justice officials who dissented from his views.

2nd case in point: Johnson failed to properly log and disclose high-end personal gifts. Trump financial engagements now even include foreign governments who agree after profiteering from pro Trump policies to spend millions at Trump properties.

Political leaders both parties are our worst nightmare right now.

Even with all the BS Ricky went through, he still ran for 10k, plus yards. Pretty incredible. Imagine if he got back the three or four missed seasons and he was healthy.
