Day 1 Minicamp Practice Notes
June 16th, 2026
Receiver Tez Johnson runs through an apparatus during a wide receiver drill Tuesday at Bucs minicamp.
You may have heard Bucs minicamp kicked off today? Vita Vea was watching from the sidelines (does he really need minicamp?) and that was sort of the highlight: One of the greatest Bucs defensive tackles was watching practice.
Like Vea, free agent edge rusher Al-Quadin Muhammad was on the practice fields for the first time at One Buc Palace. And so too were the NFL zebras.
Nothing really stuck out for Joe at practice except the usual: special teams coach Danny Smith and his non-stop chirping. So let’s jump into some plays Joe witnessed.
Along with other media, Joe was heavily screened for most of practice and then got fed up so much with people trying to play billboard, so Joe decided to roast and look for future skin cancer cysts and surgeries.
And yes, it’s still underwear football season.
11-on-11
* Baker Mayfield didn’t have a sharp practice. His first throw in 11-on-11 was a tip of what was to come. Mayfield had Jalen McMillan open over the middle deep and Mayfield overthrew him. McMillan had a step on Jacob Parrish.
* Mayfield runs up the middle for a big gain.
* Tez Johnson runs to the left.
* Tez was running a pattern to the inside from the left and Mayfield connected with the second-year receiver.
* Mayfield throws way low over the middle. Like shoulder-height, if that. It was so low that Joe thinks Mayfield was trying to pump-fake and the ball got loose. The pass was low enough that the defense appeared to volleyball spike the pass.
* New backup QB Jake Browning throws down the right hashmarks for Bauer Sharp and the rookie tight end couldn’t hang on. That may be the first time Joe saw Sharp not able to complete a play when targeted.
* Jalon Daniels throws to Garrett Greene to the left. Antoine Winfield raced in to break up the play. Apparently, Winfield had too much of a head of steam as he couldn’t hit the brakes quick enough and slammed right into Greene, splashing him. Hitting is verboten in underwear football!
* Daniels throws to running back Dean Patterson (Georgia Tech) to the left and Patterson couldn’t hold on.
* FIRE! The fire alarm inside the Glazer Shed goes off. No fire crew showed up. (No, practice was outside but still, sitting some 130 yards away, Joe could hear the alarm and see the strobe lights from inside the shed.
* Mayfield throws short to McMillan along the left sideline.
* Mayfield throws short to the left side for Emeka Egbuka. Then the second-year receiver spun quickly to the outside and briefly broke free.
* Mayfield throws to Kenny Greenwell along the right sideline.
7-on-7
* Daniels rolls right and throws down the right sideline with the pass batted into the air and no one was able to make a play on the ball. Incomplete.
* Browning tries to connect with David Sills (West Virginia) to the left and the ball was incomplete. Two Bucs defenders ended up on the ground near when the ball landed. Both slapped the ground in frustration at not getting to the ball or making a pick.
7-on-7
* Mayfield throws to the right for Chris Godwin who reaches out and hauls the ball in. Pretty.
* Mayfield to Tez Johnson over the middle.
* Browning throws to running back Josh Williams over the middle.
* Browning throws to Sharp down the right seam. Sharp then fakes an inside move and then darts outside to gain separation. Joe will be very interested to Sharp in pads. In underwear football, this guy makes plays every day. Beware, Devin Culp.
* Daniels looks downfield, waits and waits and waits and finally dumps the ball off to running back Kadarius Calloway (New Mexico State) along the right sideline.
11-on-11 Goal Line
* Mayfield to Sean Tucker to the right.
* Mayfield fakes a run to his left and then runs right and connects with Tez down the right sideline right at the goal line for six.
* Mayfield pumps right then throws over the middle into the end zone right at Antoine Winfield who records a pick. Joe wasn’t sure where Mayfield was going with the ball. No white jersey (Bucs offense) within four yards of Winfield. Perhaps Mayfield was trying to hit Godwin in the back of the end zone? Godwin was the closest receiver, but not that close.
* Mayfield throws to Payne Durham at the goal line down the left sideline and Durham has the presence of mind to get across the goal line for six.
* Browning over the middle for Ted Hurst for six.
* Browning rolls left and then sidearms a pass over the middle to Sharp at the goal line.

Has Bowles been fired yet???

Fire Bowles Now!!!
June 16th, 2026 at 5:20 pm
Fire LynchMob now!!! Keep Bowles- at least he’s a fan of the team.

Fire Todd 🔥

Looks like we have a couple new guys on the team – “Kenny Greenwell” and “Sean Rucker.” Welcome to Tampa fellas!🤣

Apparently, Baker’s mind is on either his contract or comments on JBF of so many readers who don’t want to give him a contract yet. And his performance today is the primary reason why. Inconsistency! He plays some great games but he puts some stinkers on tape as well.
We just need to see some consistently good play. If the defense is just average, an average Baker can win.

👆👆👆👆👆👆Maybe the real Lynch will give us 3 first rounders for LynchMob 50 so he can rejoin with Evans

Hurst has some really long arms
June 16th, 2026 at 5:58 pm
Joe, thank you for the notes.
June 16th, 2026 at 6:11 pm
Great notes Joe! It doesn’t matter if its OTAs, Mini Camp, TC or the regular season, Bake is inconsistent with turnovers. Its who he is and be prepared to see much more of this this season.
June 16th, 2026 at 6:42 pm
Thanks Joe
BTW isn’t Dean Patterson a WR?

Love the practice notes. Thanks for sweltering in the hot sun getting skin cancer. Much appreciated. Sounds like TE Sharpe has been making plays but I haven’t read anything yet of him with first team. Mayfield hasn’t thrown the ball at his feet yet like he does with Otton. He may be able to catch it and get to the 1st down marker.

This is shaping up to be a really good rookie class!

Going to be a heartbreaking day for lynch and aqua when Todd leaves… He’s their reason for living 😭
Like little girls with a crush – it seems like he’s all they think about all day every day. Sad 🤡s

I’m glad to hear Danny Smith is non stop chirping. I can invision his involvement will be the biggest improvement this year. It will have a carry over effect so the defense and offense has better field position to work with.

Shocking (not really) to see people here taking shots at Mayfield and others during underwear football. No context; no clue if a receiver ran the wrong route; no clue about anything. Bash Bowles, bash Baker, bash Otton, bash the Bucs.
Great fans here at JBF …
June 16th, 2026 at 8:35 pm
Sounds like Baker is in stretch run form!
Just throw the ball, somebody’s going to catch it!!!
Proving in practice why he isn’t even worth his current contract.
Browning needs to stay ready. Baker will get pulled out of the QB1 spot this year.
Mayfield isn’t a pressure player and 2026 will prove that once and for all.

Bowels still hear Mob. Trouble sleeping?
June 16th, 2026 at 8:54 pm
LynchMob50 is will disappear by Week 6. He/she may come back under another of her sock puppets and pretend she was a Bucs fan all along.
Book it
June 16th, 2026 at 8:58 pm
I hope they weren’t testing the fire alarms in anticipation of needing to sound them when Bowles not to difficult to learn defense is on the field this season….eat another KitKat…

While I’m not too concerned about what happens in underwear football, did Baker have a single decent practice so far? Unless I missed something it sounded like Baker was off in all these recaps.
Again, not too concerned – but still, I’d like to hear he looked sharped at some point. And maybe he did but I missed it.

Fire Bowles Now!!!

@joe, hearing some insiders saying Durham has had a really solid ( albeit underwear football) OTAs and mini camp. He’s not been talked about much but still think Robinson will use him more. Also heard Bauer having a good camp but needs a lot of work in the playbook ( wrong routes, assignments) – normal rookie stuff though imo. . And Kieft may be a fullback? Can you confirm or deny any of this? ?

Some guys can’t get one comment to post. Others? Three in a row…

Lynch, you were literally nowhere to be seen in the first 5 weeks last season. Just give it up already. At least Rod has some semblance of insight sometimes, you… Ya can’t even cancer properly
