Baker Mayfield And … Notre Dame?
June 15th, 2026Now this is weird.
Recruiting never stops in college football. It’s a 24/7/365 endeavor. Snooze and you lose.
Up in the new capital of football, Indiana (it’s such a new hot new home for football that the Bears want to move across state lines), Notre Dame apparently had a large recruiting function on campus.
So who shows up to the festivities on Saturday? None other than the Bucs quarterback Baker Mayfield. You know, the same quarterback who led Oklahoma to the Rose Bowl not that long ago?
What in the world was Mayfield doing on the famed campus in South Bend, Indiana?
It seems there is a direct connection between Notre Dame and Mayfield.
Former Bucs center Robert Hainsey got married in South Bend over the weekend. The current Jags starting center invited Mayfield as the two are tight. And Mayfield just happened to wander onto the campus, per Oliver Vandervoort of FanSided.
Also per Vandervoort, Jags quarterback Trevor Lawrence was in South Bend for the wedding, but he was not spotted on the Notre Dame campus.
Joe knows Mayfield is still tight with his school, Oklahoma. So was Mayfield doing some espionage and trying to steer Irish recruits to Norman? Inquiring minds want to know.
Former Oklahoma and current Tampa Bay Bucs QB Baker Mayfield is at Notre Dame for the Irish’s official visit weekend.

Pretty sure this means he’s going to leave the Bucs to go play at Notre Dame…
That’s it, Licht needs to now pay him $70M to keep him.
SIGN HIM NOW BEFORE THE PRICE GOES UP AGAIN!

Sure. Bash Baker. 8 years in the league. We all know about his last 3 years. 12000 yards and 95 TD passes. 2024 season reached heights only 3 QBs in NFL history have reached. But what about his first 3 years? How about only 3 QBs in NFL history have thrown for at least 3500 yards each of 1st 3 seasons while also throwing for at least 75 touchdowns his first 3 seasons. Year 4 led league with 84 completion percentage after 2 games, then was injured badly enough to require surgery and Stefanski played him anyway. Year 5 on 3 rosters. Baker Mayfield is a superstar, and those who don’t know it- will know it. Sooner rather than later, I reckon.

Now that it’s more of a free market, Notre Dame embracing the transfer portal (which is in serious need of some guard rails but I digress), everyone talks about Ohio State with the legacy money, Indiana and mark cuban, Texas oil money etc. All valid. The alabamas of the world being backed by shady car dealerships are surely not happy. Valid. But the sleeping giant is Notre Dame. Now, idk how much of sleeping giant you can be when they’re a top 5 program with Marcus Freeman right now, but if they wanted to go full F you mode and lax their academic standards and flex their money muscle, it’s a wrap. And maybe they are now, as this is the first time they’ve had the number one recruiting class in a long time, marquee transfers and will likely go in to this year being ranked number 1. Yes their basement living loser son (Indiana) won the chip – but they’re the big swinging D that can laugh in the face of group think, and say no to conferences. Better watch out, they have more power than everyone

Does Baker still have a year of eligibility?

When in South Bend? If you do not visit one of the most historic college campuses in the US then maybe you aren’t really a football fan. I would make it a point even though my dad went to Purdue. LOL
Go Bucs!

A little research tells us that the wedding was at the Basilica of the Sacred Heart on the Notre Dame campus. Impossible to attend the wedding and not go on the campus of the university.

Good one, Mobucs. So obviously nothing nefarious was going on after all…
Oh look! Another snide Mayfield post from Munch. I do hope the Bucs sign him soon. He’s awesome.

Just another pro football team. Pay your players, it’s a pro sport. College ball is dead.

Floormatt loves anything and everything about Bowles and the Bucs and their 2-7 finish, blaming injuries, everyone except Todd, and the phase of the moon conjoined to Virgo. Baker is awesome if you like losing critical games, finishing 2-7, throwing horrible passes and interceptions when you need a play at crunch time.
Yeah. That’s awesome.
