Winning First And Second Round For Benjamin Morrison

April 24th, 2026

Second-year cornerback Benjamin Morrison

The Bucs remain young and thin at cornerback and there was a chance Buccaneers Ring of Honor general manager Jason Licht would have ignored the team’s screaming needs at edge rusher and inside linebacker, and instead drafted a cornerback in Rounds 1 or 2.

That didn’t happen.

In Round 1, the Bucs bagged mauling University of Miami edge rusher Rueben Bain. In Round 2, they snagged inside linebacker Josiah Trotter out of the University of Missouri.

Somewhere, second-year cornerback Benjamin Morrison is breathing easy.

Morrison, who turned 22 last month, played in 10 games last season and was shaky in three starts. He flashed good coverage but also looked overmatched too often. And man, his tackling was shaky.

Still, Morrison was a banged up rookie who entered last spring healing from an injury and then picked up a couple more along the way.

The Bucs haven’t lost faith him, as evidenced at least by their movements in Rounds 1 and 2 tonight.

Morrison is expected to compete at outside cornerback with Zyon McCollum and fellow 2024 rookie Jacob Parrish (Round 3). McCollum and Parrish can play nickel corner; Morrison is not seen as a nickel by the Bucs’ brass.

SVD is the loser…we have picked up 3 LBs & only lost 1

  2. SC Bucs fan Says:

Next round will be a CB

    2025*

  4. Stallworth Says:

BM21 is a bust. More injury prone than Dean. And JL won’t accept that fact for another 2 years. At least we got Trotter to help this 28th ranked pass defense.

  5. Obvious One Says:

    IDK BUT…

We COULD HAVE had the EXTREMELY VALUABLE 2nd round pick…

IN THE 4TH OR PROBABLY THE 5TH OR 6TH ROUND!!!!

I AM NOT A HAPPY ABOUT THIS AT ALL!

  6. Big_Buc$ Says:

If a CB is drafted in the 3rd round JL is admitting he was wrong to extend Zyon and he has lost faith in Morrison after his rookie season. My guess is DT because we have 2 in a contract year both 30 or older.

  7. #1bucsfan Says:

Agreed with everything you said Joe. He will develop tho. Bowles developed CD111 dean SMB Zyon whitehead Edwards Winfield smith and so on. He can develop DBs. The pass rush will help tremendously and coming in as a rookie with all the workouts traveling draft combine mini camp they are drained then go into a full season. He will imporve

  8. Bucs Guy Says:

I have a feeling Bucs go O in 3rd to throw a bone to their new OC. TE Delp or Briggs. WR Hurst or Sackett. Then DT and CB in 4th and 5th

  9. Bucs Guy Says:

I would rather go DT Orange (ISU) or Jackson, Jr (FSU).

  10. Lakeland Says:

I think Benjamin Morrison will be alright this season
We are bringing in physical players to our front 7
And their physicality will help the defensive backfield
There won’t be no 3-28:this season
I guarantee you, we won’t get pushed around this year

  11. Warren Brooks Lynch Says:

    Jermod McCoy is still undrafted.
    Keionte Scott is very available.
And there’s a few CBs still on the board that can come in and push Morrison.

I want the big, lanky kid out of Washington Tecario Davis. We could use a stick 6’4’ CB

  12. Bee Says:

You mean there’s more pressing needs before CB. Still way more work to be done on this roster.

  13. Winny Testaverde Says:

Benji yet another top shelf pick by JLight and Associates.

  14. ‘74 Bucs Fan Says:

We’re building front to back like we should. Adding beef, power, strength , tenacity. Bain and Trotter are thumpers!

We’ll probably go CB now, which is smart – or OG, TE.
