The logic behind publishing multiple mock drafts is very sound if you’re trying to get a mock draft right when it counts the most.
ESPN super insider Peter Schrager explained his fascinating process yesterday.
Schrager, who has been very tight for years with the Bucs front office, delivers two mock drafts a season.
The first one popped last week, and Schrager explained it’s the compilation of all he’s learned after collecting months of information. And that mock draft, he said, triggers a ton of feedback from teams directly to Schrager, intel that shapes Schrager’s final mock draft coming next week.
Teams reach out to Schrager to tell him what he got wrong and why.
“You can tear it up. I mean, honestly, you can tear it up,” Schrager said of his opening mock draft on The Pat McAfee Show. ” The amount of feedback that I’ve gotten saying, ‘This guy’s too high. This guy’s too low. They’re not doing that.’ And from teams directly saying, ‘Appreciate the thought process, but that’s probably not the direction we’re going.'”
Now that’s how to deliver accuracy in a final mock draft. Brilliant! Share your best shot at a mock two weeks in advance and adjust based on feedback.
For those wondering, as Joe wrote, Schrager had the Bucs taking University of Tennessee cornerback Jermod McCoy at No. 15 overall in his recent mock draft.
Joe pays close attention to Schrager’s mocks. Two weeks ago at the NFL anual meeting in Phoenix, Joe talked to Schrager privately about his stunning relationship-building skills within NFL circles. It might be the best in the business, and he doesn’t hold hands with coaches.
A year ago, Schrager had the Bucs drafting Arizona wide receiver Tetairoa McMillan in Round 1. McMillan went earlier to the Panthers and the Bucs grabbed receiver Emeka Egbuka with their No. 19 overall pick.

Thats why you have boards and backups in place. Sometimes someone falls further than you thought.
Im not going to post it, but my board has four backup plans at every position of need and then at every position of BPA. Youve got to find where those two cross each other. It will be moderated anyway….plus I dont want other teams knowing, its poker….cant show your cards. But theyve listened to me before…i posted something last week in one of the articles here stating where Im basically at. But i dont work for them so, who am i to say anyway lol….all good

To much at stake for Licht, and Bowles to gamble on another corner who’s coming off injury, and didn’t play his final year. Missed the combine, and his pro day. Licht, and Bowles need a surer thing. They need to know their first pick is ready for rookie camp, not just training camp. They rolled those dice with Morrison last year, and came up snake eyes. Don’t make that mistake again.

If the Bucs stick and pick and Jermod McCoy is still available at No. 15 he will most likely be the highest rated player on their board. IOANE is probably right under him. I just don’t think any of the remaining OLB or ILB available would be any higher than those two.
Bucs fans should prepare themselves to pick one of those two guys. Trading down is only an option if you find a partner. That’s not always possible. Passing up a talent like McCoy or Ioane isn’t worth an extra 4th round to move back 10 spots. JJ or Harvard An. Chart is only the suggested trade value teams low ball all the time.

The only ‘accurate’ draft is the one that Jason Licht pulls off in a week or so.
