Gerald McCoy Believes Rueben Bain Will Need To Be Coached Up To Counter Short Arms
April 29th, 2026Six-time Pro Bowl Bucs defensive tackle Gerald McCoy is the biggest Tampa Bay cheerleader — figuratively and perhaps literally.
McCoy always picks the Bucs to win on NFL Network pregame shows, and he is quick to defend all things Todd Bowles, Baker Mayfield and more.
On the current roster, the only negative McCoy consistently has shared is that last year’s rookie defensive tackle Elijah Roberts, the Bucs’ fifth-round pick, had significant growing pains. And McCoy won’t mention Roberts by name.
Breaking down all things for The Arena — Gridiron before the last week’s NFL Draft, McCoy gave his take on eventual Bucs first-round pick Rueben Bain, the Miami Mauler edge rusher.
Those short arms on Bain? McCoy says they’re problematic without proper coaching.
“Every defensive line coach I’ve talked to, all my defensive line friends, they believe it’s a problem, his arms being short,” McCoy said of Bain. “I’m one of the only people that believe you can coach him up to play it properly. You’re seeing offensive linemen saying they would love to go against a guy like that. Separation is just so important. I’m watching him play and I’m talking to defensive line coaches, and defensive line coaches don’t like guys with short arms. It’s too important an attribute.”
Interesting is that Bucs defensive tackle Calijah Kancey has short arms, even shorter than Bain’s. And McCoy is very high on Kancey.
Yes, Joe realizes separation for an edge rusher is a different animal than it is for an inside pass rusher.
If one buys McCoy’s assessment that it will fall on the Bucs to coach up Bain to play well with short arms, then that puts a lot on the plate of outside linebackers coach Larry Foote. Second-year edge rusher David Walker also has short arms, one inch longer than Bain. Walker did not complete a practice in pads last season.
Bucs sacks king Shaq Barrett had short arms for an edge rush prospect, about 1 1/2 inches longer than Bain.
For those wondering, Chris Braswell has an arm length scouts applaud.

That is why I would bring in
1.) Jim Schwartz!
Cripes remember what Todd Bowles said last December
Following a loss that dropped the team to 7–7 after a strong start, Bowles noted that the coaches had taught the players everything they needed to know, placing the onus on the players to execute.
2.) Sign Cam Jordan to be a Mentor … a what? yes a Mentor!!!
and he can still play…. I think… but it takes two to tango!!!!
April 29th, 2026 at 2:24 pm
Wasn’t it Kancey that missed that tackle in the playoffs against Daniels. When he just slipped out of his hands. If he had longer arms he might have made that tackle. Just saying. Go Bucs!
April 29th, 2026 at 2:26 pm
Tell me something… What was James Harrison’s arm length?? Exactly… Chill out with this crap..
April 29th, 2026 at 2:26 pm
Mike Tyson’s reach was about six inches less than Bain’s, according to AI. I can’t think of a sport where reach could be more important than boxing.
April 29th, 2026 at 2:26 pm
Buncha tyrannosaurus rexes all up in here
April 29th, 2026 at 2:28 pm
THE LENGTH OF 1 AA BATTERY
That’s the difference in Aaron Donald’s vs Ruben Baine’s arm length.
One is #1 DT All-Time and the other a likely bust because of arm length?
What would Tony Dungy say?
BUCS HISTORY LESSON
Derek Brooks was he was too small, Sapp wasn’t strong enough, Ronde was lacking in nearly every catagory. Tony drafted based on how they played football. Tends to work out.
And let’s not forget my favorite … Tristan Wirfs was too nice.
April 29th, 2026 at 2:30 pm
Last sentence is phenomenal
April 29th, 2026 at 2:32 pm
McCoy and his never ending Bucs advice makes me sleepy.

WITH McButter saying that makes me believe
BAIN BEAST IS UNLEASHED!!!
April 29th, 2026 at 2:39 pm
He has had these supposed short arms during his domination in collage pretty sure he has figured it out. Using his length or lack of was never bains game anyway his power bend getting low to the ground and football IQ don’t care about his arm length which is what he uses to win his matchups.
April 29th, 2026 at 2:39 pm
While Bain’s arms are shorter, some reports indicate his overall wingspan (77 1/2″) is nearly identical to Aaron Donald’s reported 77 5/8″ wingspan, suggesting similar overall reach despite the difference in arm length alone.
April 29th, 2026 at 2:42 pm
Bain has won against high-end college lineman. Those linemen eventually become NFL lineman. No one has explained yet how that magically changes once he gets to do the NFL. I’d be interested to hear.
April 29th, 2026 at 2:44 pm
Being a lifelong OU fan- and I’m sure all of the Bucs fans on this site know, you have to take whatever Gerald might say with a grain of salt. Ok, maybe a block of salt. But his heart is in the right place. I’m still a bit away from being sold on Bain, but I would say, after watching Bain play football, that you don’t want to “coach him up” as regarding beating a block, or hounding the QB. Coach him minimally. Let’s let the stud be a stud.

April 29th, 2026 at 2:52 pm
what does gerald mccoy think jason taylor was doing?
April 29th, 2026 at 2:54 pm
Nonsense. He’s already been countering his short arms his entire career. He excels at hand fighting and has a deep pass rushing toolkit designed to get tackles paws off of him.
April 29th, 2026 at 2:56 pm
STFU Gummy.
April 29th, 2026 at 2:56 pm
Who, or what coach on the Bucs is going to coach Bain up better than Jason Taylor has the last three years? Think before you open your pie hole Gerry.
April 29th, 2026 at 2:59 pm
Well he came to the wrong team for that. Todd can’t coach let alone coach DE to succeed
April 29th, 2026 at 2:59 pm
I can’t take any man seriously wearing a denim muumuu.
Jason Taylor coached Bain up knowing what he needed to do to be successful at the position.
McCoy is about as memorable as my last bowel movement.
April 29th, 2026 at 3:00 pm
His supposedly short arms are a non issue. It’s silly talk
April 29th, 2026 at 3:01 pm
I hate Bowles so I hate the Bain pick. But I also hate McCoy so this makes me like Bain. The enemy of my enemy is my friend. What to do?
April 29th, 2026 at 3:05 pm
Reedo, stop being a Bucs fan and go away?
And Brutal Bain is about to make McCoy look like a prima donna.
April 29th, 2026 at 3:10 pm
I’m quite certain that Bain went up against plenty of tackles and guards in college who had much longer arms than he has and performed very well against those players. Given that arm length isn’t everything (hello Chris Braswell and JTS) we ought to not judge anything about Bain until after he puts on some pads and goes after a few QBs.
April 29th, 2026 at 3:11 pm
Oh boy. Red flags and sirens going off at OBP.
If past is prologue, there will be no coaching up on defense.
Just more of the same Swiss cheese pass defensive scheme.
Just gotta coach it better!!!!
April 29th, 2026 at 3:13 pm
Coached Up! See Ball. Go Get It!…McCoy is ridiculous! As is the short arm sh!t…
April 29th, 2026 at 3:15 pm
Good old Stubby. LOL anther Bowles draft down the tubes. The outlook is bleak for the next few years of Blunderball. Don’t worry just lower your expectations and enjoy the show. They will eventually dump Bowles and Licht for a real rebuild. We ared decades away from another SB. Don’t worry Be happy.
April 29th, 2026 at 3:17 pm
I would think the wingspan issue would be more important for an Olineman..Just as Jason Taylor about Jonathan Ogden…
April 29th, 2026 at 3:18 pm
Grover you should heed your own advice
April 29th, 2026 at 3:31 pm
Arm length is more important than a guys desire to dominate or heart n hard work STFU, it’s rare for guys with Bains measurables to get drafted high because there isn’t many guys as good as Bain with those measurables, he’s not normal
April 29th, 2026 at 3:32 pm
Grover,
Go back to your coloring books and crayons.
The adults are here to have a real football discussion
April 29th, 2026 at 3:35 pm
All this crap about short arms. The man can play! Nuff said.
April 29th, 2026 at 3:38 pm
I thought Jason Taylor coached him up to using his short arms to his advantage
I think he’s ready now , he don’t need to be coached up
April 29th, 2026 at 3:40 pm
Maybe the Ice Cream man can coach Reuben Bain up
April 29th, 2026 at 3:46 pm
When I played my arms were long enough to get to the coldest beer in the back of fridge..
April 29th, 2026 at 3:49 pm
One thing no one seems to realize yet is that Bain could still be growing. So if his arms wind up being longer that makes him better? I would be curious to see what he measures when he’s 25-27 yo.
April 29th, 2026 at 3:52 pm
Grover NEAR…
Grover far….
April 29th, 2026 at 3:55 pm
Bain is by far the best edge guy the Bucs have had in years. Our D-line is way stronger than it’s been in years. We have a good mix of vets and new talent @ ILB and we have some dynamic youngsters on the back end.
————–
But whoa is me – whaaaaaaa 😭🤣…. Todd will make it all suck. He is DC & HC 😭. Swiss cheese defense 😭 blah blah blah. I don’t know much about football but I know I hate Todd and I can’t shut up about it – blah blah blah 😭
April 29th, 2026 at 4:10 pm
Shaq had 1 1/2 in longer arms then Bain an ppl are freaking out 1/1/2 inches seriously lol gtfoh Bain will be fine I really can’t believe it’s even talked about to be honest I’m more worried about his Speed then arm length an I’m not really worried bout his speed but if I had to pick something to worry abiliuy would be that but I believe he will only get better with Professional Trainers an nutritionist i believe he will get quicker with hai development vut you cantntea h that power
April 29th, 2026 at 4:10 pm
I think the best thing people can do is bitchvabout his arm length. Make him even more determined to prove us idiots all the way to multiple super bowls
April 29th, 2026 at 4:13 pm
Loose Cannons said on last podcast… give Bain 93, just so Gerald understands how little we care about his opinion. I agree!
April 29th, 2026 at 4:16 pm
I would be super grateful if you stopped quoting Gerald McCoy. I’d be even happier if Gerald stfu and went to some other media market – maybe covering basketball in Japan.
April 29th, 2026 at 4:22 pm
Who cares either you produce or.get cut that why all out 2nd round pass rushers are gone they didn’t produce in college either.. but this guy did produce in college nobody’s worried just people like to talk about what ifs he has done it jason licht knows more then us..
April 29th, 2026 at 4:22 pm
I’ll be soooo glad when real football starts and we can move on from all this silliness. Tend to believe that what most of us care about is ‘Can this guy REALLY play NFL football?’ Kinda hard to tell though until he’s actually played some games. Until we’ve seen him in action in real NFL games, it’s all pure speculation.
April 29th, 2026 at 4:30 pm
T-Rex was probably underestimated as well for having short arms, but he did quite well.
He used those short arms to grip prey during close-up attacks.
What did he eat? Anything he wanted.
April 29th, 2026 at 4:31 pm
“For those wondering, Chris Braswell has an arm length scouts applaud”
EXACTLY!
April 29th, 2026 at 4:35 pm
Since we’re on the subject of Edges, I’m kinda wondering if Bowles will keep SIX OLBs this year (Diaby, Bain, Muhammad, Nelson, Braswell & Walker). Can’t exactly put any of them on the Practice Squad because someone would snarf them up (since we couldn’t protect them).
We have the same dilemma with our DLine. Can we keep SIX DLinemen this season (Vea, Robinson, RNR, Kancey, Roberts & Capehart)?
Since we normally keep 25 on defense, that’d only leave us 13 spaces for ILB, CB & Safety. Not enough; can’t see Bowles going with any less than 4 ILB plus 10 Secondary. Although a few times in the past he has gone with 26 on defense, so you never know.
April 29th, 2026 at 4:55 pm
So does JTS. Hes got 34 inch arms and he’s just as soft as Gerald.
I don’t think anyone is going to be dumb enough to call Bain soft.
April 29th, 2026 at 5:11 pm
This arm thing is way overblown. I haven’t hyped about a Buc draft pick since Sapp!
April 29th, 2026 at 5:12 pm
Gerald McCoy shouldn’t be giving football advice
If it was advice on eating Ice Cream, his advice would be valuable
April 29th, 2026 at 5:14 pm
Defense Rules,
We signed some nice UDFA
I think sone of them will impress during training camp
April 29th, 2026 at 5:20 pm
Bain has already been coached up by a hall of famer. Thus the production.
Nothing against Foote, but he’s a down grade IMO. Footemjust has to keep those fundamentals, the ones he is already in possession of, going and strong.
The best test for Bain regarding being a pro, Tristan Wirfs and their battles in camp this July.
And maybe he can go to Sack Summit with Diaby. 😆
April 29th, 2026 at 5:25 pm
Who cares what mccoy thinks, he loves to hear himself talk.
April 29th, 2026 at 5:30 pm
O GET REAL!
I haven’t heard ONE SINGLE REPORT from ANY O lineman BAIN has gone up against claiming he stopped BAIN because his arms were an INCH longer than his!!! MUCH LESS EVEN SLOWED HIM DOWN! Isn’t his pressure rate in the 80% tile…. ?
The ONLY REPORTS WERE OF LINEMAN LEFT WITH BUSTED MOUTHS AND BLACK EYES TRYING TO STOP HIM! DOZENS OF THOSE! YET NOT ONE THAT CLAIMED HE EASILY STOPPED BAIN…. EVER! AN INCH SHORTER…. F OFF!
April 29th, 2026 at 5:32 pm
I could be wrong about the pressure rate OVER ALL? May end it was one game? Honestly I’m not sure. BUT I KNOW IT WAS HUGE!
Does anybody know what his overall pressure rate was? How many sacks?
April 29th, 2026 at 5:32 pm
“Maybe” it was one game..
April 29th, 2026 at 5:33 pm
It was like 84%!!!
April 29th, 2026 at 5:41 pm
The ONLY THING I’m SURE OF is that we FINALLY HAVE US A STAR ON THE FRONT LINE THAT CAN ABSOLUTELY GET AHOLD OF ANY QB ON THE PLANET! A LOT!
Just As long AS the coaching staff doesn’t screw up his head! NONE AND I “MEAN” ABSOLUTELY NONE OF THE COACHES THAT WE “CURRENTLY HAVE” ARE CAPABLE OF COACHING UP “ANYBODY” BETTER THAN TAYLOR DID OR CAN! NOBODY AROUND HERE SHOULD TRY TO UNTEACH WHAT BAIN HAS BEEN TAUGHT! OR THEY SHOULD BE THROWN OUT OF THE STATE!
April 29th, 2026 at 5:45 pm
Larry Foote was a ILB for Pittsburgh
He never been an OLB in the NFL
Jason Taylor is a HOF Edge Rusher
I guess he’s more qualified than Larry Foote.
When it comes to rushing the passer
April 29th, 2026 at 5:46 pm
Go ask Trey Zuhn III who plays for the Raiders now this last year as a 3rd Round draft pick, what it was like going against Bain when he was at Texas A&M.
It wasn’t pretty.
Bain destroyed him and Mesidor was hurt and didn’t play in that game.
April 29th, 2026 at 5:48 pm
Aww. If he has to have longer Arms let’s just stretch them out! It worked on Barney Fife’s Neck. Call The Mayberry Sherriffs Office and see if Barney still has the Stretching Contraption!! 🤣
April 29th, 2026 at 5:53 pm
Nah. I wasn’t wondering about Braswell’s arn length. However, I do wonder if he will make the roster this year.
April 29th, 2026 at 5:54 pm
Go ask Trey Zuhn III who plays for the Raiders now as a 3rd Round draft pick, what it was like going against Bain when he was at Texas A&M last year in the CFBP.
It wasn’t pretty.
Zuhn talked trash about Bain before the game.
Bain made Zuhn his screen saver on his phone.
Bain destroyed him and Mesidor got hurt and didn’t play in that game.
After the game Bain showed the press his phone and said Zuhn wrote checks he couldn’t cash.
April 29th, 2026 at 5:56 pm
On draft night he said he was the best in the country and he was going to show it.
Can’t wait to see him plying his trade in a Bucs uniform!
April 29th, 2026 at 5:58 pm
I want to see him light Cousins up the first time.
April 29th, 2026 at 6:01 pm
tyson could have used longer arms vs buster douglas
April 29th, 2026 at 6:02 pm
Grover the Muppet. You really need to get outside that trailer and take a walk, enjoy nature; anything to get you to stop writing the same nonsense in every post-draft post.
April 29th, 2026 at 6:05 pm
Alvin the Bozo
April 29th, 2026 at 6:08 pm
Even like that i bet you this rookie will make more impact than plays when bucs need with at least one his rookie will be more than mclown ever had
April 29th, 2026 at 6:09 pm
He’s already been coached up. What does he think Jason Taylor have been doing? Bain wasn’t a first round pick accident.
April 29th, 2026 at 6:16 pm
McCoy and his minions are total idiots.
April 29th, 2026 at 6:22 pm
Short arms big heart and big motor > long arms,no heart no motor
April 29th, 2026 at 6:26 pm
McCoy…still the highest paid Buc of all time…trots out a lot of unsolicited opinions these days. Never has a player been paid more for doing less ( maybe Kirk Cousins…maybe ) than Ol’ Geraldini.
April 29th, 2026 at 6:28 pm
I think McCoy is probably correct. I was watching film on Bain and when he gets locked by the OT he has a problem. Not only short arms, but the guy has small hands and can’t get a good grip on the OT’s shoulder pads. Think the key is Bain’s ability to bend and get around the OT , before the OT can set up. As long as Bain is not playing inside he will be fine, especially if he is going against a TE.
April 29th, 2026 at 7:13 pm
Id rather base things on the tape than the measurements. Tons of great players who were dealt with less than favourable attributes that succeed. When they play their whole life with these potential limitations, they find ways to win. Bain will do that. For the Bucs, they have a lot riding on this pick and cant afford for it not to pan out since they did not go back.to the well and draft another edge despite a deep draft. This is my concern they should have loaded up even with Bain walker and mohammad. Mo is 1 year, walker hasnt put on pads yet, bain hasnt played a down in the NFL. Imo this bothered me when they had a perfect chance to flood the position and let the cream rise.
April 29th, 2026 at 7:53 pm
Big dog, Bain, is going to eat.
April 29th, 2026 at 9:28 pm
Will Bain show up in the 4th quarter? Something Gerald McCoy and his long arms could never do.
April 29th, 2026 at 9:40 pm
I wonder how many edge rushers have arms as long as an average NFL offensive tackle?
April 29th, 2026 at 9:54 pm
He does not need to be coached up on how to use his arms. That’s a ridiculous statement.
And I’m not a McCoy hater like some of the ignorant people here.
He knows how to use his arms. He gets them inside on a tackle with leverage and is pure power. And he’s fast and can bend around the edge,
We’ve seen how Tampa coaches up their edges… It hasn’t worked since Shaq Barrett.
Just let him loose to do his thing.
April 29th, 2026 at 10:20 pm
Seems he doesn’t like fact nobody really mentions him when they say Dlineman to the Bucs from Miami. So tired of McCoy and so many others talking bout a grown man’s arms so much
April 29th, 2026 at 10:21 pm
Suh
April 29th, 2026 at 10:31 pm
DR – Braswell is likely getting cut…. There’s your answer.
6 – NT/DT – (Vea, Robinson, RNR, Kancey, Roberts, Capehart)
5 – OLB – (Diaby, Bain, Muhammad, Nelson, Walker)
4 – ILB – (Anzalone, Trotter, Rozeboom, SirDennis)
10 – DBs (Winfield, Smith, Russell, ? / Parrish, McCollum, Scott, Morrison, ?,?)
=25
Our Defensive roster (not accounting for OTA/TC/Preseason injuries) is basically already set. The only real questions at this point are – who is the 4th Safety and who are the 5th and 6th CBs.
April 29th, 2026 at 10:57 pm
Fox-NFL released their post-draft power rankings today….
Get this…..
Every have Tampa ranked at #22 !!!!!
They had Panthers at 19, and Falcons at 20 !!!
Saints were at #27 !!!!!!
Absolutely insane!!!!
Honestly, Saints could be the best team in the division this year in my opinion…they gonna be a hand-full to deal with….
We should have a much better D this season based on what we did in free agency and the draft…
1) we deep at defensive tackle
2) we got better linebacker depth now
3) special teams should be better with improved coaching & players
If we stay healthy, we should have a solid season in my opinion 🤷🏻♂️…
Hell of a lot better than #22!!!!
To Fox-NFL, you can GTFOH with that crap..
April 29th, 2026 at 11:57 pm
“Sorry Ben!” That is what I remember most from Gerald.
I’m sure he is a good person, just didn’t make memorable plays imo.
April 30th, 2026 at 12:01 am
@Obvious One it’s tough to find anything that’s accurate on pressure rates imo but the numbers are out there. The problem becomes every site reports different numbers because they each have their own way of calculating. I am using PFF for the stats because they track hurries and hits on the QB. The stats below are based on regular season stats from PFF.
Bain – total pressures was 67 on 557 passing plays, his pass rush win rate was 22.9%, they also post what they call a true pass rush win rate which put Bain between 28-30% win rate. Don’t ask me why it’s a range.
Mesidor – total pressures was 55 on 360 passing plays, pass rush win rate was 21.3%, true pass rush win rate was reported as 34.7-36%
April 30th, 2026 at 12:07 am
Just Stop with this continuous Schwartz BS. Cause, that’s what it is. BS. First of all he is under contract. Secondly, do you really think HE would go to the BUCS (a team HE KNOWS is not a contender and are probably heading quickly towards a complete rebuild), for just ONE season!? Third, do YOU really think that STUBBORN TODD BOWLES would just hand HIS DEFENSE over like that, ESPECIALLY to someone who would be considered a THREAT!? Really!? Ridiculous. And, STOP with the “well, HE could be promoted HC mid-season if/when they collapse!” So, THAT would be THE REASON why HE would take the job!? SERIOUSLY. GTFO. Yeah, that’s what HE’s gonna do and bank his FUTURE ON. Please. Again, just STOP IT. It’s Delusional.
Alsoooo… Another commenter – “ Bain has won against high-end college lineman. Those linemen eventually become NFL lineman. No one has explained yet how that magically changes once he gets to do the NFL. I’d be interested to hear.”
THIS is one of THE ‘dumbest’ comments I’ve ever read on here. I mean, it’s LAUGHABLE. The difference between NFL O-LINEMEN versus COLLEGE and the ACC!? What a JOKE. So, please tell me that YOU have never played “SPORTS” before, or even been around it (a locker-room, coaches, FO’s or AD’s, ‘professional’ (or even good) ATHLETES, etc.), without actually TELLING ME that you’ve never played or been around “SPORTS” in real-life before. Pure. Ignorance.
I mean, I couldn’t even get through the first handful of comments on this thread. Geeez. I’m not reading anymore, either. Just the ridiculous amount of stupidity. YES. He WILL have his hands full having to deal with these NFL Offensive Lineman. He’s NOT “Special.” He’s a nice player who will have his work cut out for him.
April 30th, 2026 at 12:14 am
Asking what the big ‘difference’ is between an NFL Offensive Lineman versus COLLEGE/ACC. Just Laughable. I would be embarrassed.
April 30th, 2026 at 12:22 am
I hope that Bain breaks the mold and becomes an absolute stud for us. The things that concern me – the coaching staff has not coached up particularly great performance for any edge rushers since the Super Bowl defense and Coach Bowles has said he doesn’t care about sacks and pressures from edge rushers because they do other things in our defense. This lack of track record and coaches mindset combined with the lack of production of edge rushers with short arms in the NFL is the concerning part.
I think trying to compare other sports is difficult especially when using an extreme outlier like Tyson. Generally it seems that most in the boxing world value arm length as well though.
James Harrison while a fantastic football player never led the league in sacks and he only really had three high performance seasons as far as sacks go.
I don’t know this number and it’s late so I’m not going to look it up but it would be interesting to see Bains stats per game and per player he went up against and if they are currently a starting OT or might be a future OT in the NFL. The other stat that would be interesting would be how many of his sacks, hurries, and pressures came from the 9 and 5 position because the Hurricanes used both Bain and Mesidor inside as well.
April 30th, 2026 at 12:28 am
Okay, say we win the division, and are BETTER than the Panthers, Falcons, AND Saints (I know a huge stretch, but for argument sakes)… WHO ELSE, are we “better than” in The NFC!? Cardinals (barely beat by 3 at HOME), Vikings (Kyler Murray to THOSE weapons now… Couldn’t be any worse than what they had last season… O’Connell & Co. could reenergize and save his career), Packers (healthy Parsons, Kraft, etc.), Redskins (a healthy Jayden Daniels), Giants (now with ole Hairball, a young explosive defense, a healthy Dart and Nabers, in year-2)!? Hmmmm… Bottom-5 in the NFC.
April 30th, 2026 at 12:39 am
McCoy should watch Bain play a little more rather than rely on his sources. Bain’s arms are short but no one needs to coach him up on what to do with them. Jason Taylor has done that already. Bain and Mesidor both kept OTs guessing week in week out with their deep bags of set-ups, moves and counters.
Dametrius Crownover, Texas A&M’s RT, is 6’7 1/4” 320 lbs with 35 3/8” arms. Bain set him up by going outside from a wide alignment and the moment Crownover turned his hips to the sideline Bain smashed up under his breastplate and drove him 5 yards backward right through the QB. That was one rep but it shows that locking him out with long arms is not easy. I’m not saying I expect him to do that every down against every tackle in the NFL. It’s not just his power but his timing and precision that make him so beastly.
More than coaching Bain will need time to get to know the tendencies, strengths and weaknesses of OTs he’ll be facing. I’m more concerned about the fact that he can’t win with pure speed and his ankles are somewhat stiff. His power and technique far outshine those limiting factors. He stacks and sheds vs the run with clockwork like reliability so I’m not expecting OTs to wash him past past the pocket with length. Trying that will often end in them going for a ride. If they try to sit down they don’t know if they’re getting a cross-chop, arm over or ghost move or all three. McCoy didn’t do his homework.
Bain is a great football player but probably not a double digit sack artist against NFL blockers but between him, Trotter and Scott the Bucs added at least 10 sacks to their sack totals over the next four seasons, hopefully beyond.
April 30th, 2026 at 12:59 am
Judging the source, not worried.
More than likely the fear that is real is, he will be coached down to the level of stale bread soaked in warm water.

Melvin, dumbass, did you really not understand what I wrote? Where do NFL lineman come from. Answer, college. Where do NFL edge rushers come from. Answer, college. So he’s going to be playing the same caliber of guys He played in college who have now matured into pro players. Obviously with additional training and maturity. Just like with him. What can you not understand about that? 99% of NFL players come from college. Bain will be a rookie so he’ll obviously have a typical learning curve. But after that he’s going to be playing against the same guys he was playing against during college. Do you get it? Jesus… You act like the guy went to a division 3 school and never saw a quality lineman. He played against players that were first round draft picks. Anyway, if you don’t get where I was going, I certainly can’t help you any more than that.

We won’t know Bain will turn out as a NFL player. Coming from College into the NFL is a big adj. If he comes near a Shag Barrett would be assume. He didn’t show greatness until he left the Broncos. Jason Licht must have seen greatness in him by trading for him.
Right now Bain looks promising on paper. Games are won on the field. Right now it’s wait and see what the summer camp reveals and what happens on the field in September and October.

imagine if they had passed on bain saying “his arms are too short” i
diotic to even consider. his tape and stats speak for themselves.

As long as Bain avoids:
serving soft serve,
rolling up to practice in a batmobile wearing a kimono
and
apologizing to opposing QBs whenever he gave them a boo-boo
I think Bain will be fine.

Just imagine a tackle putting his palm on byBain’s forehead and him swinging his arms hitting nothing but air! Hopefully this is all just conjecture and he years it up. We need a pass rush
