Did The Bucs Want Chris Brazzell Over Ted Hurst?
April 27th, 2026Fun monitoring ahead out of Round 3 of the NFL Draft.
Tampa Bay traded down with Green Bay in Round 3 on Friday night to pick up an extra fifth-round pick. The Bucs moved from the No. 77 selection to No. 84 overall.
At No. 84, the Bucs snagged big, athletic-freak receiver Ted Hurst out of Georgia State.
But guess who the Stinking Panthers picked one selection earlier at No. 83? Carolina took 6-4, 198-pound receiver Chris Brazzell, Jr. The University of Tennessee receiver ran a 4.37 40-yard dash at the NFL Scouting Combine and was highly productive last season in the SEC, with 62 catches for 1,017 yards and 9 touchdowns.
Were the Bucs hoping to draft Brazzell but miscalculated what would happen between No. 77 and No. 84? Joe has no clue. But it will be awfully fun to watch how these big receivers develop for their respective NFC South teams.
Hurst also is 6-4. He’s 210 pounds and ran a 4.42 40-yard dash.

I personally am not that excited about this WR. I hope I am proven wrong.
But probably because ME was such a freak with his 35-inch arms and his go-go gadget wingspan that no one in the NFL has matched.
We will miss that no matter who we drafted this year.
April 27th, 2026 at 11:26 am
I thought the same thing but looking at Hurts his routes are crazy
April 27th, 2026 at 11:27 am
Ted Hurst is a more physical WR than Chris Brazzell
If Ted Hurst played for Tennessee, he would have better numbers
Hurst is a big physical WR, Brazzell a string bean
I think Hurst is a better fit with us

If there’s one position that Licht has earned the benefit of the doubt for – it’s receiver
April 27th, 2026 at 11:33 am
imo, the trade up for the LSU TE was a head scratcher…
seems like we couldve grabbed Trigg or another OL with that 7th round pick…
Tez & Culp turned out to be solid
GO BUCS!!!!
April 27th, 2026 at 11:40 am
Without a capable QB this pick does not move the needle.
Just ask Mike Evans. He took a pay cut to go elsewhere.
April 27th, 2026 at 11:41 am
813bucboi, evidently the news got out about trigg….he fights with coaches and his character is questionable….
Wouldn’t be surprised if Bucs removed him from their board….
That’s why the dude didn’t get drafted..nothing to do with talent..
April 27th, 2026 at 11:44 am
With our 3rd round pick, after the trade
We got WR Ted Hurst and OG Billy Schrauth
I think we came out better than having Brazzell alone
April 27th, 2026 at 11:46 am
Ted Hurst and Billy Schrauth gives us more value than Chris Brazzell
April 27th, 2026 at 11:53 am
Hurst has decent speed and can stretch the field. He appears to have decent route running abilities (above what was showcased at Georgia State) and has pretty solid contact balance and elusiveness. He should pair well with EE, Godwin and Jmac, offering a nice change of pace from Tez.
Jmac is smooth and shifty
Tez is quick, small and explosive
Hurst is somewhat fast and tough (I could see him eventually replacing Godwin)
The WR room should be strong this year, if CG is back to form, even if we lost Evans
April 27th, 2026 at 11:54 am
That was a great pick by Carolina. I would much rather trade UP in middle rounds all day long, and it’s just not what JL does. Especially, after doing so to draft KICKERS and the like, in past years. I mean, what else would you expect!? Now, he’s scared, lazy, and WEAK. Standing pat and trading BACK in the mid to later rounds, is the reason this team has such a HUGE void of talent on it’s roster. Brazzell will have a strong season there.
April 27th, 2026 at 11:57 am
10 more pounds of muscle in the off season
April 27th, 2026 at 11:58 am
Kudos to the panthers for winning the division, but let’s keep it real here. Horrible play calling on both sides of the ball, and their “success” last season is more indicative of us completely messing up the end of the season.
The panthers are definitely on the upswing. And short answer yes, panthers stole tha pick from Licht, good for them
April 27th, 2026 at 12:03 pm
We’re looking for physical players
On both sides of the ball
And that’s exactly what we got with Ted Hurst and Billy Schrauth
We’re no longer looking for finesse players
Jason Licht got it right
April 27th, 2026 at 12:04 pm
813bucboi Says:
“imo, the trade up for the LSU TE was a head scratcher…”
My only guess is trick plays on offense and special teams (which badly needs an infusion).
He has about 3 years experience playing QB.
We have a new OC and a new ST Coordinator…one or both of them may have wanted him.
April 27th, 2026 at 12:05 pm
28.3.Evans. great points.
April 27th, 2026 at 12:10 pm
His name sounds too much like our EDGE9 anyway
April 27th, 2026 at 12:15 pm
I wouldn’t have minded taking Brazzell. Like Caleb Douglas too, but just as excited to have Hurst cause he’s not just a dog, he’s an underdog. We’ve got Hurst & Kam Johnson in the same room, that’s crazy considering the path each of those guys took to get to Tampa.
April 27th, 2026 at 12:16 pm
Typical….
Makeup draft pick JL’s MO
April 27th, 2026 at 12:19 pm
“813bucboi, evidently the news got out about trigg….he fights with coaches and his character is questionable“
Was injured at Ole Miss, rehabbed and was ready to return to practice and instead, skipped multiple practices
I’ve heard barking at young Rebel fans seeking autographs during their spring practices years ago.
Kid was on his 3rd chance by time he got to Baylor, and to be all that honest he’s not all that good to act like he’s Terrell Owen’s or Willie Beamon for that matter
April 27th, 2026 at 12:24 pm
Short answer. No!
April 27th, 2026 at 12:24 pm
Ted Hurst some offers to transfer from Georgia State
But he decided not to chase the money
Good for him
April 27th, 2026 at 12:25 pm
“””Had some offers
April 27th, 2026 at 12:40 pm
Chris Brazzell, because Chris Braswell worked out so well.
April 27th, 2026 at 12:42 pm
I had that initial thought as well. But put Hurst on Tennessee and Brazzel on Ga St and who do you think has the better career?
It’ll be interesting to watch their careers. Hurst is going to be limited because of our stacked WR room, while Brazell will get plenty of opportunities in Carolina.
This is one we won’t know about for 4-5 years.
April 27th, 2026 at 12:43 pm
Hurst is going to get his chance to make his size and speed a part of the offense…
A chance…
April 27th, 2026 at 12:51 pm
Maybe it was just the jerseys, but watching Brazzell tape reminded me of Alvin Harper in Tampa. Maybe he turns out to be a good player, but seems much more like a guy that just runs fast in a straight line and doesn’t do much else, and those guys (see Trey Palmer) rarely do much in the NFL.
I like Hurst’s tape and profile a lot more. So if the Panthers did ‘snipe’ us, great, I’m glad they did.
Also Licht’s record tells me Hurst has a really good chance to be a good WR.
April 27th, 2026 at 12:57 pm
Hurst has a GREAT opportunity in Tampa… I wish him the best!
We a chock full of chain moving eligible receivers
We need a true back of the defense threat!
April 27th, 2026 at 12:58 pm
Brazzell is a deep only wr, no disrespect, he’s gonna hit some big ones, but that’s his ceiling, Hurst profiles as a more complete receiver and to get Schrauth as a bonus might be the best move of the draft, CG EE n JMac are very similar players but none of them are X receivers, they can play it but that’s usually a taller player
April 27th, 2026 at 1:03 pm
Trigg was undrafted for a reason it’s not just Licht, big fast TEs are worth a shot in the last 2 rounds and Sharp has good athleticism even if no one heard of him before, he’ll probably be a practice squad player if he doesn’t make it initially
April 27th, 2026 at 1:04 pm
I liked the Caden Fordham signing. I think he could be pretty good.
April 27th, 2026 at 1:04 pm
Hurst will not be behind anyone on our roster for the starting X Receiver position.
He will be our starting X Receiver.
Noone else on our roster has proven that they can be effective in that role. In fact, they have proven the opposite.
Hurst will be a star here I think.
April 27th, 2026 at 1:10 pm
Caden Fordham was 1st team All-ACC
3rd team All-American
And he’s a good special teams player
Dennis better lookout
April 27th, 2026 at 1:17 pm
heard Trigg was immature but didnt think it was to that extent….
with problems like that, he wouldnt have lasted long here in his hometown…way too many distractions…hope he puts it all together
GO BUCS!!!!
April 27th, 2026 at 1:22 pm
The Bucs probably had them graded really close and knew that they would have to pick whoever didn’t get picked. Brazzel was expected to get picked around the mud 50s and Hurst around 80. I think Hurst has the higher ceiling. Brazzel maybe a little more pro-ready. Fans should judge them after a few seasons. It would be surprising if Hurst out of the gate was better
April 27th, 2026 at 1:40 pm
Well done Joe! This is great bulletin board material for Hurst. Tell Hurst he wasn’t really wanted but the Bucs missed out on Brazzell. Coach B-Mac needs to light a fire under Hurst and tell him that he’s better than Brazzell but he needs to prove it on the field! I’m betting on Hurst over Brazzell! LFG Ted!
April 27th, 2026 at 2:02 pm
Brazzell was one of the top players available when they picked so they wouldn’t have traded down if that was the case. It crossed my mind too but I quickly discarded it due to that fact.
April 27th, 2026 at 2:17 pm
28.3…..”stole the pick from the bucs good for them….. NOT a bucs fan apparently…..
April 27th, 2026 at 2:26 pm
Brazzell is the better receiver Hurst is ok though so Its fine
April 27th, 2026 at 2:28 pm
Only concern for me on Hurst is 3 years ago he was playing DIv 2 football at Valdosta State. Once he moved to Georgia State just not sure much great competition he has played. His team went 1-11 last year and played Ole Miss and Vandy. Other than that not much else. .
