Steelers Bag Jamel Dean On A Three-Year Deal

March 9th, 2026

Jamel Dean has bolted the Bucs for a three-year, $36 million deal with the Steelers.

The Bucs aren’t better without Dean, but man, Dean was hurt again last year, missing Week 18 with a shoulder injury after leaving Week 17 early with the injury.

He’s a good veteran cornerback who had a good 2025 season.

Dean’s departure means the Bucs lost another member of their 2020 Super Bowl team, along with Mike Evans, which was the sad, sad news of the day.

That’s a big payday for Dean, who was squeezed into a paycut last year right before training camp. Dean made the most of it and cashed in with a good team.

Good luck, Jamel.

This will be felt, but damn, can’t get Mike outta my head. Our team looks a lot weaker.

  2. Whatevs Says:

    LOL

  3. Ricki Says:

Well done to Dean also, why stay here when you coach doesnt know how to put a team in the field. I hope all free agents leave and nbdy join. we are aiming at the draft so lets commit to it

  4. Badbucs Says:

We burned this bridge. 12 mil is totally reasonable for Dean. We just weren’t smart enough to pay it.

  5. Whatevs Says:

    Good News.

We still have Todd Bowles and the 3rd and 28 defense.

    Hey Hey Tampa Bay….

    LOL

  6. Mike10 Says:

I have written off any hopes of this upcoming season.
Evans saw the same writing on the wall that many Bucs fans see: this team is not championship caliber (yes, that is directly related to the retention of Bowles).

  7. Big_Buc$ Says:

They said they had enough of Todd and Jason. we got a ring out of him so he’s good and he’s 30. I like the CB room but doesn’t hurt to bring another in because of the Morrison pick. Hopefully in year 2 he takes a jump. I honestly hope Tampa gets a bigger body Safety and move Smith back to the slot. Put Parrish on the outside and Morrison and McCoullumn compete.

  8. Bojim Says:

    Good luck Jamel!

  9. Teacherman Says:

    I’m happy for him.

    He’s a lock down QB.

He’s not meant to play zone.

The Steelers defense is perfect for him.

  10. LynchMob50 Says:

All the Bucs are jumping off the sinking ship.

Todd Bowles and Baker will be more exposed than ever.

    2026 just got uglier.

3-14 is my newly revised prediction.

Hopefully that is enough to send Bowles, Licht, and Mayfield packing.

  11. Football 1 Says:

Well Al I can say no ME and now Morrison and McColumn starting corners!!. Well it doesn’t look good for next year does it. Add we have no pass rush. We will be setting some records on defense next year and not the the ones you want
    Sad day for TB.

  12. Simeon4HOF Says:

    Good riddance

  13. Faspro Says:

    That sucks…

  14. Orlando Kevin Says:

Patience… not even 3 hours into Free Agency and we have a draft.

  15. Hugh Glazerhouse Says:

Dean sucked, just like Todd who loved him, bye Burnt Ends

  16. DJR589 Says:

Did we restructure McCollums contract yet?! F’n bum.

  17. garbs65 Says:

yeah, Mike Evans knew that our defense would not be good enough again next season, regardless of who the Bucs can bring in here. He probably knew Dean was exiting. idk.

  18. Wvbuc Says:

    Gainwell for Dean

Dean signed for 3 years, Steelers paid $36 million. In the end, that’s going to translate to $18 million per year of useful usage 🙂

  19. OrlandoBucFan Says:

    Ira should be happy.

  20. Nick jannette Says:

    Calm
    Down
He gets hurt in a pillow factory and he gets torched, good luck in Pittsburgh lol you’ll need it, as for Mike love to him but 27 million a year for 3 years ok not, he’s way overdue for a major injury and we for sure got the best of Mike Evans. Gainwell will out produce him this year for 7 million.

  21. Defense Rules Says:

Well there goes another ‘Buc for Life’. Happy for Jamel though; the Bucs screwed him big-time last season & now we’ll pay for it.

  22. The Smokey GO Bucs!!! Says:

    Mike going to SF WTF!!!!!!!!

  23. OLDSCHOOL1976 Says:

Out- ME13, Dean and Rachad White
    In- Gainwell and Anzalone
Not going in the right direction there better be more signings soon!

  24. Bucsalltheway Says:

He was a good cb and and good man…but he couldn’t stay healthy until he took a pay cut…he cured his dropsies in his final year…this year is going to suck really bad brace yourself folks

  25. RVATom Says:

Dean always seems to play hard and stays healthy…in contract years. I’ll be surprised if he is a factor in PTSBRG unless he is used differently. Did like his vibe though.

  26. Tbbucs3 Says:

    Addition by subtraction…

  27. Tbbbucsfan Says:

He’s just not worth 12 mil a year. Smart move not matching.

  28. Warren Brooks Lynch Says:

We don’t get a comp pick for Jamel because of the contract re-work last year
    {price is right fail horn}

  29. Tom Petty Says:

More concerned with this than Mike leaving.
Definitely going to need to draft another CB now.

  30. Pewter Power Says:

Throwaway season people. There is no reason to spend big money on a pass rusher. We got an old linebacker which screams Bowles who can’t coach so needs old veterans

  31. donuts Says:

Tell Ira to put the champagne down… lol 🙂

  32. HC Grover Says:

    Dean escapes Bowzo.

  33. FrontFour Says:

    Signing a three-year, $36.75 million deal.

Good for Dean. No way I’d sign him for 3 years let alone $30 large.

  34. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

Well, this is going to be a different team going forward. No more Dean. No more Evans…

  35. JohnQCitizen Says:

The Steelers are dumber than the Bucs. That’s big money for a glass man.

  36. BucU Says:

Come on man, We still have Todd Bowles!! I’d like to modify my 2026 prediction now from 8-9 to 6-11.

  37. Scott Says:

The Bucs getting worse and worse. Back to the basement!

  38. #1bucsfan Says:

Man this fanbase is real classy. Totally the reason they left. For real
    Fans.

  39. CapeBuc Says:

A good team? I dunno, they squeaked into the playoffs and then blew out. I’m happy for our young DB room—and WR room for that matter—to make the team their own.

  40. Oneilbuc Says:

Mike didn’t believe in Baker Mayfield this why we ain’t winning a Superbowl with him .
