Report: Todd Monken, Browns To Make A Run At Mike Evans
March 8th, 2026So, what about Mike Evans’ demand that he must play for a Super Bowl contender with a top-shelf quarterback?
Maybe that changes if you have a relationship with the right people. Long-time Browns beat writer Mary Kay Cabot of the Cleveland Plain Dealer reports that Cleveland is expected to make a run at Evans when legal tampering starts at noon tomorrow.
You know, the Todd Monken-led Browns? Evans’ former position coach and offensive coordinator with the Bucs? Yeah, those Browns.
This news elicited an interesting response from Walter Cherepinsky, the man behind the curtain at WalterFootball.com.
The Browns are expected to be interested in Mike Evans. – Mary Kay Cabot, Cleveland.com
This sounds like the loser nerd being interested in the head cheerleader for a prom date. Good luck, bro. It would be a very odd career move for Mike Evans to play in Cleveland.
So wait a minute: Joe swears Evans’ fearmongering agent Deryk Gilmore issued a list of demands and criteria teams must meet in order to court Evans. Two of those are that the team has a shot at being a Super Bowl contender and/or have a top-shelf quarterback.
The Browns don’t have either.
Now nobody knows Evans in the NFL quite like Monken, who groomed Evans from a raw, overly emotional player who often got into scraps with defensive backs and was bird-dogged by referees for offensive penalties into an elite, Hall of Fame-level receiver.
Joe can’t help but think this is a lost cause for the Browns, but Joe fully understands why Monken would want to take a shot.
Joe would not be shocked one iota if this intel was nothing more than a sh!t-stirring plant by Gilmore to gin up a bidding war for Evans.

I think Evans and his agent know Jason’s top price. I’d guess somewhere in the less than 20mil a year range.

Mike Evans is not going to play in any cold weather if he doesn’t have to

This will not make other fans happy. I was a season ticket holder for 15 years before I left Florida. Mike has been great for the Bucs. But he also hasn’t been able to remain on the field for an entire season in 24 and 25 due to injury. I understand the emotional bond. But if Mike wants to leave, the Bucs have too many other pressing needs at other positions to tie up precious salary cap space or break the bank to keep Mike in Tampa.

Mary Kay is such a hack reporter. Take it from a former Browns fan

His career is over now.

If Evans wanted to go through another losing season, he could stay in Tampa.
March 8th, 2026 at 6:36 pm
Was one of the criteria that the team has a competent Head Coach?
March 8th, 2026 at 6:50 pm
FYI – Evan’s agent said he is open to play in cold weather cities and that they think the heat has contributed to his hammy issues.

This pure comedy.

Hes gone but not to the clowns.

“Two of those are that the team has a shot at being a Super Bowl contender and/or have a top-shelf quarterback.
The Browns don’t have either.” – Joe
The Todd Bowles led Buccaneers aren’t SB contenders either. And their QB1 is a short, mid-level at best, interceptions in big moment prone, career loser.
If Mike stays it is only to sell season tickets to the rubes still dumb enough to believe the propaganda spewing from OBP.
But you keep trying to sell this fantasy Joe. It keeps us all laughing out loud.
March 8th, 2026 at 7:21 pm
I don’t know much. But I do know some of these low ball numbers I’ve seen being tossed around aren’t going to sign a receiver like Mike. That doesn’t mean that we’re not going to get him.
March 8th, 2026 at 7:21 pm
@buccintimeforchanges,
What exactly do they think will happen to the hammy in cold weather environments? I mean guys get on a stationary bike in between plays sometimes after they tweak a hammy to keep it warm with the blood flowing.
The hot weather crap is baloney. Mike is entering his 13th season in Florida and is from Texas. Galveston sees more stagnant summer heat than Tampa. At the very least, they’re both equivalent in heat.
I swear, Mike’s agent is a buffoon. Drew Rosenhaus is laughing. We all know Mike and his wife want to keep Tampa as their home. I could see him leaving if this was his 7th year in Tampa, not at the twilight of his career where the Bucs clearly want him. The Bucs just need to get some edge rush help to stop Mike from moving to Houston out of frustration. It’s either the Bucs or the Texans.
March 8th, 2026 at 7:28 pm
Mike wants to be up there with Ronde and Derrick as Buccaneers for life. Why would he want to play anywhere else than maybe Houston. The greatest Buccaneer of all time would want to retire as a Buc.

CLEVELAND: where players go to die…..
March 8th, 2026 at 7:35 pm
A second year quarterback yea right
March 8th, 2026 at 7:42 pm
This just in!
Mike Evans’ hamstrings vote “NO!”
March 8th, 2026 at 7:53 pm
When will this be over? I have enough of a headache. How much is enough for his sleazeball agent? 20 mill is too much. Please end it tomorrow. Pay him or don’t but move on. Too many other guys to add without this distraction.
March 8th, 2026 at 7:59 pm
Cleveland is a dysfunctional organization from owners to coaches alike. Why would Mike Evans want to step back into an environment that is worst than the bucs lost years.
The B.S. from the dysfunctional media is on par with franchises like Cleveland (they’re both losers). Hopefully the intelligent media can drown out the rants of the dysfunctional media.
March 8th, 2026 at 8:24 pm
Browns dont meet Evans supposed criteria.
March 8th, 2026 at 8:33 pm
The only way Mike goes to the Browns is if they overpay.
March 8th, 2026 at 8:39 pm
The Borwns making noise in 2026 are kind of like Hugh Culverhouse throwing his weight around in 1985 with Leeman Bennett or Lovie talking about being a contender in 2015, pure comedy and yeah Monken would probably like to have EWvans but the situation in Cleveland is even worse than that in Tennessee or Vegas. Cleveland is a dumpster fire and has been for decades. I feel bad for Monken, reminds of Rod Marinelli in 2008; who had the perfect run to 0-16 but now it could be 0-17…..
March 8th, 2026 at 9:15 pm
No one wants to be in Cleveland, and that’s not a reference to the Browns, that’s a reference to that dump of a city, and state in general. I have no idea how much it would cost for Evans to sign there, but even if they had the full $301M cap available just for Mike, I still can’t see Evans taking the deal.
March 8th, 2026 at 9:43 pm
Come on now, Hot Rod. If he signs a 5 year deal as you suggest, that’s “only” a little over $60 million per.
March 8th, 2026 at 10:07 pm
I think it might be the chargers. Will hate to see it but like the Bucs said” the man has earned the right to test the market”. Hope he stays but wish him well wherever he may go except if he’s playing us.
The bucs will be fine at receiver. They need to go after defense defense defense. All three levels need lots of help. Hopefully the young 2nd year corners will make another step up in their career. Pass rush and weakside and middle line linebacker must be addressed . I must say though I think I will vomit if I see Evans in black and gold.
March 8th, 2026 at 10:10 pm
At least tomorrow there will be more substantive news for Joe(s) to report!
It won’t be about Mike’s pending move to Cleveland. That story is like a B- movie that has little entertainment value.

Is Mary Kay going to offer Evans a cadillac?

I’m saying $300m a year wouldn’t be enough to have to live in that place.

Isn’t Cleveland’s entire OL hitting the market?
