Mike Evans To Leave The Buccaneers For The 49ers

March 9th, 2026

The unthinkable has happened.

Mike Evans’ 12-season run in Tampa is over.

Just hours after free agency opened today at noon, Evans agreed to a deal with the 49ers, per Adam Schefter. The reported terms are three years.

Joe aches — and Joe aches for fellow Buccaneers fans.

Yeah, some fans will cheer a new era and the Bucs now having more money without Evans to sign younger players. Most Bucs fans, however, will stand with Joe, knowing the Bucs got worse as a team today and became a lot less fun.

Two years ago, Evans was celebrating a new Bucs contract and saying he wants to be a “Buc For Life.”

All kinds of blame will be thrown around by fans. Todd Bowles, Jason Licht and Team Glazer are going to take their share of uppercuts. Evans will catch some stray middle fingers, as well. The Bucs did want to sign him but didn’t get it done.

Man, Joe is going to need quiet time to mourn this loss.

    SMH

  4. Bradinator Says:

Just sad. Happens eventually with a lot of great players.

  5. Simeon4HOF Says:

    He’s wrong for leaving

  6. Rob Says:

    Soul crushed.

  7. Cloverstone collectibles Says:

Saddest day I can remember as a Buc fan.

  8. Lt. Dan Says:

Good luck Mike. Who can blame you.. 3rd and 28.

  9. Alldaway Says:

Was it worth overpaying KG and Otton to have ME leave? No in my view.

  10. SeanBucsFan87 Says:

Well yeah. They lost all of their defensive stars and could still stop 3rd and 28. This is what the glazers get for not going for it. Should’ve traded for crosby. Oh well. Keep the bargain bin guys coming. That’s definitely gonna sell tickets and win games.

  11. Paratrooper Buc Says:

I’ll miss and wish him well.

  12. Leopold Stotch Says:

I feel a part of me as a fan has died

  13. Chad Says:

Back to back seasons Mike had serious injuries, he wasn’t worth that kind of money. I’ll take the cap money and know that our receiving core is still very good. Put that money towards defense

  14. Tushar Garg Says:

This one hurts. I have his signed jersey framed in my office. Thanks for the amazing memories and heart ME13. Please sign that one-day contract 3 years and 1 day from now so you can retire and go into the HoF as a Buc. Truly a great!

  15. WalkdaPlank Says:

Just dropped to my knees at Bass Pro Shop!

  16. adam from ny Says:

whoa……………today was a bad bucs day

  17. HeavyE Says:

    Thanks baker, you MF’er!!!!!

  18. Ryan Says:

    3rd and 28…

  19. SeanBucsFan87 Says:

    Should’ve fired bowles too

  20. DS Says:

If tough but once taste winning it’s hard to not want to win again

  21. Football 1 Says:

Told you Joe, when he did not sign just before FA you knew it was over. I in the 49 need. Good coach play caller good team. Yeah he has a shot for another SB

  22. Bucsalltheway Says:

This one stings, they must have seen something they liked while he was injured…baker has to work on his accuracy immediately no more prayer balls to Mike. Knew we should have drafted McMillan last year to replace this guy

  23. Hugh Glazerhouse Says:

It’s the Glazers fault! They suck! Keeping Todd meant mediocrity!

  24. Mhystc Says:

    Lmao. Classic Bucs organization..

  25. Mac Says:

I told you he was leaving. Not sure why you found it so hard to believe. He wants to play for a winner. Bowles had to go if he was coming back I’m certain of it. Bucs are tanking this season. Bowles is reason Evans left. No one will ever convince me otherwise.

  26. ocala Says:

What a huge upgrade at the head coaching position for Mike. I hate to see him go, but it is the right move for a WR at his age.

  27. OR Buc Says:

Damn. This team just got so much less interesting to me. Terrible. Buc’s Bigs should be ashamed.

  28. LynchMob50 Says:

    Smart move for both sides.

The defense is leaking like the Titanic.

    We have enough quality WR’s.

We will need a new QB though.

Not to mention a HC\DC and a GM.

  29. Gofortheface30 Says:

Told you guys about San Francisco, but all in complete disillusionment and denial.

  30. Freddy PA Moxie Says:

Not gonna lie… This one hurts.

  31. Buddha Says:

It’s only a game, Joe–not life. Good for Mike. I wanted to see him sign with the Buccaneers, but I do think he has persistent hammy problems and will miss multiple games.

  32. Hopein1hand… Says:

Yeah no surprise. That tunnel… The Bucs have enough receivers.

  33. Rusty Shackleford Says:

I’m sorry he is leaving the Bucs, but San Francisco can be a really good situation for him and the money the Bucs save can be used to sign Trey Hendrickson.

  34. JTHV Says:

He chose to leave so I will never cheer for this guy again until he goes into the ROH. EFF him.

  35. exBrowns02 Says:

I won’t believe it until Wednesday.

  36. Joseph C Simmons Says:

My heart hurts but the Niners are giving him a three year deal with (I predict) a signing bonus that the Bucs could not possibly match with Godwin, J-Mac, and EE in place. It would make no sense for the Bucs to break the bank on him.

I wish him the best and will be rooting for him.

  37. Ricki Says:

Well done Mike! not sure if SF is the team that will make it happen for you, but i am happy you left this garbage head coach and garbage owners. Good luck, I will be watching all your games

  38. ATLBuc Says:

3rd and 28. But we will be all right. We still have the best receiving room in the league

  39. Fanofdabucs Says:

Otton and Gainwell had nothing to do with it.

Evans was always going to test the FA market and he got the right opportunity with the right team.

As much as this is painful because he’s my favorite Buc off all time, I think it’s what was best. Dude couldn’t catch a 5 yard put without limping to the sidelines.

  40. jimmy Says:

    clarity before 3pm

  41. Oneilbuc Says:

That tells you everything you need to know about Baker Mayfield and this coaching staff. Lol šŸ˜‚

  42. DailyRich Says:

Need to see the numbers on this.

  43. Teacherman Says:

    He’s a winner.

    The 49ers are for real.

John Lynch is the best GM in the NFL.

I am heartbroken but Mike hates losing. So I get it.

I don’t blame him at all.

  44. Tuddie Time Says:

I hope ME13 took into account 13.3% state income tax! Perhaps the moderate climate can help him stay healthy.

  45. HeavyE Says:

    John Lynch > Licht

  46. Simeon4HOF Says:

This on the Glazers for keeping Todd
    And JL
And our garbage ass mf coach

  47. Shay Says:

He’s missed alot of games due to injury the last couple of seasons. Not bothered at all by this. Thanks for the memories. NEXT!!

  48. Orlando Kevin Says:

Godwin, Ebuka, Jalen and Bucky are some good weapons. And don’t forget Cade has shown he can play when we had injuries. Hate to see ME leave and he will always be a Buc and in the Ring of Honor one day. But great teams know when to move on and ME has had significant injuries the last 2 years.

  49. StonedBucsFan Says:

    What a jackass

  50. TB124Life Says:

“At this stage of his career, Mike’s goals remain the same as they have always been — to compete for another Super Bowl, to play in an offensive system that challenges defenses, and to be in an environment where he can continue to push himself and contribute at the highest level.”..

Translated: My HC is a corpse and the one good offensive mind we had here we let leave for Jacksonville to keep the same corpse as HC, who proceeded to corpse his way to another failure of a season

I hate Todd Bowles for what he’s ruined with this team

  51. Panhandle Buc Says:

Thanks for the memories and doing it the right way!!! M1K3!!!! Keep padding that HOF resume! 🫔

  52. adam from ny Says:

i guess now we just go out and sign ayuk

  53. DS Says:

    Is what it is

  54. Chad Says:

HEAVYE… this isn’t on baker. If mike was healthy all year he would’ve got his 1000 yard season, this is mainly on Todd and the defense. Mike wasn’t worth the money that the 49ers are willing to give. Back to back seasons he had serious injuries

  55. Rayjay J Says:

NOOOOOOOO!!!! Worst day as a Bucs fan since the Rams Divisional playoff game. I blame Bowles and his s**t defense!

  56. Big_Buc$ Says:

Now that he’s gone lets focus on Emeka and Jalen 1 2 punch on the outside and Godwin in the slot. Hopefully we get another RB to run in between the tackles.

  57. Warren Brooks Lynch Says:

    “An offense that challenges defenses”

    Man, lol

  58. Hammis Says:

Would not stay with loser coach

  59. LUVMYBUCS Says:

Thanks for all the memories, Mike — wishing you nothing but the best, bredren.

  60. Faspro Says:

Can you blame him? He’s going to a team with a much better coach, qb, and defense…Good luck Mike!

  61. Dewey Selmon Says:

He pulled his hammy signing his contract

  62. Bowles Wasn’t Held Accountable Says:

You can thank Bowles for this, and the Glazers keeping Bowles. At least the Bucs signed a LB that’s slower than Dennis, that ought to work out. šŸ™„

  63. lambchop Says:

One of the greatest Bucs ever but he wanted to compete and get his last shot at a huge pay day. Good for him. The Bucs will be just fine. We have a stable full of WRs and we need to focus on getting an Edge rush, OG, and add depth to DT. Eva is getting old and Kancey is brittle.

  64. Bojim Says:

I would’ve bwt anything he would stay. Man will he be missed. Thanks for the good memories Mike. Now get yourself another SB!!

  65. Wvbuc Says:

Mike could still drop the pen when handed the contract. He’s dropped more gimme’s than any other HoF wr I can think of….

Ok, reality now. This IS a legacy move. Evans performed over a hall of fame label for a long time, and even entering last season there was debate whether he really is HoF bound.

Evans believes he cements his legacy by putting on a more respected uniform.

  66. Whatevs Says:

    Good News.

We still have Todd Bowles and the 3rd and 28 defense.

    Hey Hey Tampa Bay….

    LOL

  67. Nybucsfan Says:

Thank Todd. Mike knows he sucks and wants out.

  68. The punch Says:

R receiving room is set – got 3 starter deep. Good luck to Mike I think it’s good move for him. I actually think he knows the Bucs gave young up and comer receivers and he won’t get the ball enough.. glad we didn’t overpay for him.. use the money for the D and watch how much better we will be..

  69. Eric Says:

    Horrible news, just horrible.

  70. Tampa2ATL Says:

I’m shutting office down and going to pour a drink.

  71. DJR589 Says:

Disgusted!!! I feel as disgusted and heart broken as M1K3 did when we blew a 3rd and 28!

  72. Ljsolutions Says:

    3rd and 28

  73. Chad Says:

Oneilbuc… this is more on the defense and Todd. Getting touches with baker was never a problem. Back to back seasons with serious injuries, is what stopped Mike from getting 1000 yard season

  74. Bokeh Says:

    Turd and 28

  75. LUVMYBUCS Says:

    Trade Chris Godwin?

  76. SC Bucs Fan Says:

Anyone who thinks this isn’t about Evans making a choice is delusional. Then again 2/3 of this forum are delusional.

  77. DS Says:

Light a cigarette and move on players leave fans stay

  78. SeanBucsFan87 Says:

Which one of the Joe’s is in charge of scanning comments? Lol you’ll are soft bro.

  79. Stretch-O-Matic Says:

I said on one of your Mike Evans post the other day that 3rd & 28 would send him packing. It did!

  80. Obvious Says:

    It wasn’t unthinkable.

It was right there in front of everyone who watched him blow up on that sideline. He understands what’s possible and not possible with this staff.

It was always going to be where his heart is (here) vs a shot to win another ring.

Throw in the money crunch and it was at least 50/50 leaving.

I can also imagine his mind being blown after talking with Kyle Shanahan.

  81. Todd Says:

If you call yourself a Bucs fan and you are not extremely sad right now-just STOP calling yourself a Bucs fan-Because you are NOT.

  82. Defense Rules Says:

Didn’t take Evans & the 49ers long to come to terms on a contract. Mike said all the right things (Buc for life, etc), but it came down to what it always comes down to … money & ego.

Mike got a multi-year contract at age 33 (good for him), probably some excellent $$$ to go with that, and a chance to be on a team that’ll be competitive for a championship.

I’m personally not ‘mourning the loss’ Joe. Mike got what he wanted, and the Bucs couldn’t offer that. Good for Mike; now th Bucs need to move on. We can free up around $100 mil total in salary CAP to fix our problems & be competitive in 2026. Well, UNLESS Jason chooses the ‘cheap approach’ yet again. And if he does and we have another losing season, I sure do hope that the Glazers figure out this time where the problem lies.

  83. Bucsalltheway Says:

The free bobbleheads was his parting gift, they knew this was the deal..I want to trust the process but we gonna get worked this year coming in

  84. Buc king Says:

Say it ain’t so Mike..you betrayed us

  85. Homerjmitc Says:

Ok, time to get over it.. miss/ rice / Montana all finished elsewhere …

  86. Chad Says:

Faspro you can’t say much better qb, Brock purdy is injury prone, and has always had a better defense and coach than baker. You can blame coach and defense though and I would agree with you

  87. adam from ny Says:

bring in hendrickson………after letting mike walk

  88. LJ Says:

    Lynchie!!!

  89. John Mason Says:

Mike is going to a team with a great HC who can win a SB…he knows Bowles is a joke….now can we plz sign Edge rusher Trey H. …..no excuses any more…Wake up Jason Light!

  90. Steve Says:

Everybody left and we kept Bowles.

  91. Ben Says:

Tbis is all about choices that were made to NOT get better and keep Bowles around. Mediocrity is not accepted by the greats and this shows that JL and Bowles need to get their heads out of their a$$es.

I hate Todd Bowles. Happy for Mike. Shanahan has bettee coaching in 1 finger than Bowles has ever had.

  92. donuts Says:

Truly disappointed but dont blame him. Bowles is a loser and bum. When the Glazers look back at this time, it will be with regret. This franchise is back in the basement.

  93. Oxycondomns Says:

common sense saw this coming. beneficial for both parties unfortunately.

  94. adam from ny Says:

    what are his contract numbers…………???

  95. Truth be Told Says:

Money Whore just like the rest of them. Why we become attached to these guys when they really could care less about the Fans as long as their pockets are being lined. The players and the owners deserve each other. Greedy Pigs! ME hammys will still make him come our every time he runs more than a 40 yard pattern.

  96. HeartyDickerson Says:

It’s all good you guys. We just signed a backup RB for $7M/year and gar a massive raise to the 25-best TE in the league. Who needs Mike?!

  97. LJ Says:

    He did it too …

  98. Brian Dorry Says:

This is not a serious organization. Evans left because they kept Bowles. Way to go Glazers. Unforgiveable.

  99. Lakeland Says:

    Go get some defensive help

    Mike tine is up anyway

His best years are behind him

  100. Ash Says:

There you go Mike doesn’t think the bucs are a contender right there with you Mike loved your time in tampa was an amazing run good luck I’ll be watching from afar bro hope you have continued success.

  101. HeavyE Says:

This is the first time in my life, that I HATE the BUCCANEERS!!! Licht, faker, Bowels and the Glazers!!! F**CK Tampa Bay!!!!

  102. Bucsny Says:

Who cares! At this point in his career he is made of glass, he would come in for a play and come out for 2 or 3, hes past his prime and NOT worth the money he wants, let him go hes done anyway

  103. Jerry Says:

Looks like Bucs signing RB Gainwell from the Steelers.

  104. lambchop Says:

This gives Mike an opportunity to pad his stats as well for that stretch run to the HOF. He was in a crowded room here, he’s once again the man in San Fran. But too bad the 49ers are choke artists.

  105. Coconut Doughnut Says:

we better bag Trey for 20m or less

  106. Hugh Glazerhouse Says:

D@mn you, Glazers! Chose f^cking Todd Bowles over Mike! As I said weeks ago, he wants to win. I feared he was gone because of this s#it a$$ coach!

  107. Conte Piscatelli Says:

Good for M1K3. That dude is a legend in Tampa but he deserves the money and opportunity to win. 2 solid years in San Fran guarantees the Hall.

  108. Allen Lofton Says:

That makes the Bucs less of a contender with Mike Evans signing with the 49ers. Apparently he saw the Bucs as pretenders.

  109. Bucman Says:

    Brilliant keeping Bowles — 3rd & 28

  110. Cho Says:

Damn. Saddest day for me as a Bucs fan. Always loved Mike. Best of luck to him and his family. Forever a legend.

  111. Stubby Ryan Says:

    Bucs deserve this

  112. Tye Says:

The cost of keeping a BUST for a HC/DC!

  113. Surfing The Waivers Says:

Sad to see Mike go but time moves on and things change…

Is getting AJ Brown a possibility?

And apologies if someone has mentioned AJ Brown already.

  114. Bucs 95 Says:

    I hate you

  115. Conte Piscatelli Says:

I’ll withhold judgment on the organization until after I see the terms of the deal.

  116. D-Rome Says:

I’m stunned! I never thought I’d see the day. Fans always want their franchise players to retire with the team, but it didn’t happen with Sapp or Lynch. For the Patriots it didn’t happen with Brady. It didn’t happen with Montana. It didn’t happen with Favre or Rodgers.

No matter what the super fans say about this team, the fact of the matter is that Mike Evans believes he’s closer to another ring with SF than he is with the Bucs. That’s an indictment on the entire organization.

  117. DailyRich Says:

Rappaport saying it wasn’t about the money, but the desire for a new challenge.

Reaction on the Niners message board I looked at seemed kind of muted. More “Is he going to play more than 9 games?” than feeling like it was a slam dunk signing.

  118. Dom Says:

Called it. Happy for Mike. 3 years with a winning franchise and offensive guru. Expect hi. To end his career top 5 in yards and TD’s if he can stay healthy this next 3 years. First ballot HOF if he can do that. I respect this move by him. If he went to a dumpster fire like the Browns or Titans it would have been disappointing

  119. Weebs10 Says:

    3rd and 28

  120. adam from ny Says:

mike is now the frisco kidd !

  121. Jamesrunningwilder Says:

    ā€œ3rd and 38! 3rd and 38! 3rd and 38!ā€

….bummed but not surprised at all…

  122. OLDSCHOOL1976 Says:

What ya gonna do now Jason? Use the money sign an edge and draft a X receiver in the draft. It’s a sad day but let’s hope Mike stays healthy. We were never going to give him a 3 year deal.

  123. Gman Says:

Good…he can keep Purdy company on the injured list. Laughing at all of the ā€œME13 Buc for lifeā€ fools.

  124. 407buc Says:

Light tried to be a nice guy and lost.Shoulda franchised him

  125. FlBoy84 Says:

    Desperate housewives around here lol

  126. Herbiebuc Says:

    Man this hurts smh

  127. Hugh Glazerhouse Says:

    @Tye, right as always!

  128. adam from ny Says:

moving forward i will no longer call him “big mike”…which i actually coined…

i will now refer to him as the “frisco kidd” šŸ™‚

  129. LynchMob50 Says:

Robinson is probably regretting his decision to be the OC now.

He has tethered himself to a HC\DC without a clue.

Now our best weapons on offense and defense are gone.

The rest of the NFC South are laughing out loud.

“Just gotta get better” – Theme song for Bowles in 2026

  130. Bucfan1988 Says:

This could have been all about coaching for Big Mike…

49rs were destroyed by injuries last year but SUPERIOR coaching got them into the 2nd round of the playoffs…..

    Coaching does wonders folks!!!

Mike don’t wanna see the 3rd & 28 failures anymore.
    Don’t blame him at all…

Thanks again for what you gave to this organization ME13!!
We are very appreciative and we will all miss you.

  131. ToesOnTheLine!!! Says:

All good things come to an end. It was the right move for ME13. He goes to an ultra-competitive division, but the 49’ers also have a better coach and a team that plays well on both sides of the ball. Plus they dropped a nice 3-year bag in his lap…best of luck to you Mike. Just make sure when you’re ready to call it a career that you sign a one day contract so you retire a Buccaneer (and have your bust in Canton filed as a Buccaneer…you always will be in most fans hearts!)

  132. Andrew in JAX Says:

Licht and Glazers chose Todd Bowles 3-28, over Mike Evans!

  133. Newbie Says:

There is no one to blame. Time to move on for Mike and the Bucs. THANK YOU #13.

Too bad is was not time to move on from the head coach.

  134. Usfbucs Says:

My bet is that it was never about money. He wanted to see the Bucs make a move that showed they were competing for a Super Bowl. 49ers currently are in a better position before they signed ME. With his addition they probably get another game or half game bump. Then if they make the trade with the Eagles for Carter to improve their D line their odds jump again.

  135. 941bucsfan Says:

Dang mike went from Mr 3rd and 28…. To Mr 28-3

  136. Mobucs Says:

He will now have a challenge to become the all-time leading receiver for his team.

  137. Whatevs Says:

Maybe one of Todd’s friends has a kid we can draft in the first round.

Jason Licht now has a spot to draft another loser.

  138. Rick in Ocala Says:

I’m grateful as a long time Bucs fan for the years of memories of Mike Evans wearing the uniform, and doing so much in the community. He’s been a class act since the day he was drafted. I look forward to seeing him inducted into the Hall of Fame as a Buccaneer! Thanks for all you’ve done. And he left the team with a great group of receivers to keep the offense going strong into the future.

    Good luck in San Fran!

  139. Lavonte David Enjoyer Says:

I know you wanted him Joe, but this is the best outcome. His hamstring is far, far too questionable to pay him what the 49ers are going to. The Bucs have an outstanding WR core already and still have Godwin. If we can’t win without Evans then this team is cooked anyway. We need to be signing defensive players, like Anzalone. Gainwell is coming off a 1000 yd rushing/receiving season and is only 26, replacing White. Honestly, losing Jamel Dean was a bigger problem. The Bucs need to take this cash and buy defensive players and possibly some O-line depth.

Reigning Otton was a good move too, as the guy is absurdly consistent and his blocking has gotten progressively better each season. No need to role the dice on a guy like Austin Hooper.

If the Bucs play their cards right, Evans will be regretting going to SF and the Bucs will finish stronger than the 49ers. Not that I wish Evans any ill.

  140. Arn Platz Says:

ME reaction to the 3rd and 28 told me he was going to leave. I don’t blame him.

  141. Todd Says:

The deal is 59 mil for 3 years which is less than 20 mil per

Put the blame where it belongs-squarely on Jason Licht

  142. BucSandhu Says:

No matter how Licht or the Glazers try to spin this……Our best offensive player in franchise history just told the world that the bucs can’t win with Bowles as head coach.

  143. Chad Says:

Lynchmob50… you would be wrong again. Having Mike was definitely a plus for Zac, but coaching and being around baker again was the main reason for him wanting to come to Tampa. Offense will be fine as long as they stay healthy. Still have a good receiving core. Mike wasn’t worth the money what he was asking for coming off of back to back seasons with injuries

  144. Nicholas Carlson Says:

Will always love Mike and am grateful for the years he gave us. Two catches stand out, and weirdly they were both in losses.

    1. Tom Brady’s throw to him with only a few minutes left against the rams in 2021 to bring us instantly back into the game.

    2. Same but from Baker at the end of the half against the Lions in 2023.

Bonus: The catch to get to 1,000 yards for 11 straight years.

Once upon a time, John Lynch and Warren Sapp signed elsewhere. They are now firmly part of the lore and family again. So will be Evans.

    THANK YOU MIKE

  145. BucsMinisterFuller Says:

Not a good look when the best player on the team doesn’t think you have a chance to get to the super bowl in 2026.

  146. D-Rome Says:

The Egbuka pick looks more brilliant now.

  147. Muscle Hampster Says:

Mike first to jump off the sinking (pirate) ship.

  148. Rick Says:

Mike basically just said what he thinks of the Bucs this coming year. Bowles coming back hurt us in so many ways.

On a side note – Mike is on the backside of his career and we have a lot of good young receivers. Let’s focus on 2027 when Bowles is gone. This year is a wash.

  149. Saskbucs Says:

Really hoped it was the Chargers. Didn’t want any stake in another NFC team.

Tough path ahead for the Niners in that division. Rams add some OL talent and they look like a SB favorite after upgrading their secondary.

Niners took a huge step back on D after Saleh left the first time and now he’s gone again.

    CMC and Purdy celebrate!

  150. Dale W Says:

I hope you’re man crush for Todd Bowles was worth it Glazers… you’ll be lucky drawing 50k to games next year.

  151. Whatevs Says:

    Mike was mean to Todd

Jason had to let him go to protect his down low

  152. Chad Says:

Todd, you have to realize the length of that deal and 60 million isn’t something that the Bucs should’ve considered. He’s an injury prone 33 year old receiver that notoriously has hamstring problems

  153. RuKa_44 Says:

Love you guys, and you do a heck of a job covering the Bucs…. But this one was written all over the place and you were the only ones dismissing it…. Well, you cannot get them all right, can you?

With love, from a Big fan of yours!

  154. Bucfan1988 Says:

Ok Licht, time to get your edge rusher since you aren’t paying ME13….

    Hendricksen or Bradley Chubb…..

Do it man, just do it..

    Do it, do it šŸ™‚

  155. Badbucs Says:

Good luck Mike. You did us another solid by taking the bag in SF. You kept us from doing the stupid sentimental move detrimental to the team. See you in the ROH in a couple years.

  156. Buc king Says:

So disappointed in Jason by far the dumbest move ever to let Mike walk..
    Whose forcing double teams now?

  157. Whatevs Says:

More good news. Game tickets will be CHEAP next year. 50yd line =50 Bucs

  158. Tired Says:

Can’t blame him. If he’s chasing another ring, he’s way closer to winning now. Best of luck, and we’ll see you again at the retirement ceremony.

  159. HeavyE Says:

M1K3, wanted a better QB, he only got 20mil a year!! Thanks to our little leprechaun, He’s Gone!!!

  160. jimmy Says:

mike played his @ss off during some pretty crappy years. whiners should give him a break. his time is short he doesnt have years for a bowles led rebuild. he’s already sat through year after year of buc futility, he knows what it looks like when he sees it and he saw it last year….

glazers let todd stay, that tells everyone everything they need to know about next year….

  161. Bastien from Paris Says:

Staying in Tampa with Bowles? Never! Might as well leave. We can thank him for staying two more years šŸ™ Bowles and Licht are a cancer. They won’t be able to sign reinforcements on defense or make the right draft picks.

  162. adam from ny Says:

whoa………….should have kept him for the 3 years 60 mil

    that’s def regretful

  163. BrianBucs Says:

The Glazers decision to retain Todd Bowles has cost us Mike Evans.

    Shame

  164. Rick Says:

Mike was gone the second he screamed ‘3rd and 28’. Fortunately he can leave. Us die-hards are stuck with Bowles……for another year.

  165. Dale W Says:

3rd and 28 should be screamed at the top of every fans lungs that attend next years games.

  166. Jjuice32 Says:

Wr most overated position in NFL, How many “chips” do the 2 best receivers have?(Chase, Jefferson) that’s right none. Hell Mike came back for the last few games last yr. and we won one.

  167. BucsFan28 Says:

Extremely happy for him since this is the move he wanted. We have plenty of depth at WR, and adding Kenny G is basically another one. Not to mention hopefully adding two 3rd-round comp picks next season for Evans and Dean.

  168. Mhystc Says:

He took a discount to join SF, it’s being reported. That’s all you need to know, about how Mike feels about Bowles, Licht and Baker. He doesn’t believe this team can win. Frankly.. no one does.

  169. Chad Says:

Heavye… you got to quit being a baby and blaming baker for this, if Mike would’ve stayed healthy this past season he would’ve had 1000 yards. Mike has a hamstring problem and is not worth that kind of money. More blame needs to go to the defensive side of the ball and Todd. But here’s something bakers next deal with Tampa will be even bigger now lol

  170. Bucsalltheway Says:

Signs with the team for the stadium that causes injuries…oh yeah, did they play in the nfc championship game last year…nope!…he gonna hate if we magically put it together again once he is gone…any tall wrs in this years draft?

  171. Leopold Stotch Says:

Based off the statement, it’s one hundred percent on Bowles. We lost our HoF because of Todd Bowles

  172. Leopold Stotch Says:

    Fire Todd

  173. Toddler Bowles Says:

It’s a sad day for Buc Nation to be sure but good luck to Mike Evans 13, always a class gentleman, and Thanks Mike for the memories in both good and bad years!

  174. FlBoy84 Says:

Kyle Shanahan or Todd Bowles… tough choice. One overcomes massive injuries last season and leads his team to a 12-5 record and the playoffs (with 2 recent SB appearances & 4 NFC Champ games), while the other uses them as an excuse to finish 8-9 and fires everyone but himself. Wish Mike much success, thanks for the memories!!

  175. adam from ny Says:

letting mike walk has to = bringing hendrickson in

  176. Homerjmitc Says:

To the poster who said this was all on Jason.. get a life, how about he knows he has few years left and sf is in a good place to. Win? And fans that won’t go to games because Evan left, then don’t go… many hall of fames played for different, you are the same people that would be crying if we spent that on Evans and couldn’t upgrade anywhere else,,, go watch Dallas then

  177. Rick Says:

    You know what sucks most…

KNOWING that next year is over before it even starts.

Reminds me of the 80s and most of the 90s as a kid. No hope in March is just horrible. By keeping Bowles, the Glazers both push fans away, and this franchise back 20 years. Let the rebuilding begin in 2027.

  178. Warrenfb12 Says:

Love the Bucs, I’m here for this season. But Mike knows what we all know, and what the season will show: arrow pointing down.

  179. StormyInFl Says:

Thanks Toilet Bowles. 3rd and 28!

There should be a boat parade the day his fat incompetent ass is launched!

Hat tip to the Glazers for sticking with this moron. He just ran a legend off.

  180. Homerjmitc Says:

To those that aware all about Shanny in sf!! Please remind me how many choke jobs he has had?? And who was on the side line for the 28-3 superbowl??? Oh yes…. Mike shanny

  181. Brooks Says:

Told yaaal! Smart man it’s all business. No reason to be upset. Very physical division hope it works out.
He will retire a buc calm down everyone

  182. LawrenceDawsey Says:

Sad Day. I will secretly be a ME fan with the 49ers. It says a lot about Bowles and licht not being able to put a championship team together when they had the pieces

  183. unbelievable Says:

    The organization fails yet again.

Ya’ll about to see just how much Evans opened it up for every other WR on this team…

Oh well, at least I can go into this season with zero expectations

  184. Nicholas Carlson Says:

Seeing $60M over 3 years. Says to me the Bucs decided to move on.

  185. Simeon4HOF Says:

Yay we have Zyon and a RB and Otton

  186. Marine Buc Says:

    Cool!

The Bucs need to rebuild their defense and the 49ers are my 2nd favorite team!

Evans will definitely be getting the majority of targets in SF as long as he can stay healthy…

  187. unbelievable Says:

    “3rd and effin 28”

We know exactly what Evan’s thinks about Bowles…

  188. BUCDADDY Says:

I wanted him to sign from a nostalgic point of view, but I guess ultimately that’s all it really was. He hasn’t been exceptional in years, and he can’t really stay healthy. I believe I just really wanted him to stay a Buc, but the truth is, Mike just seemed to be taking up space on the field more than making plays this year. We’ll be okay. It’s not like he was going to be a complete game changer anymore like he was in the past. Plus, I don’t believe Purdy is as good as the NFL wants to believe he is. The 9ers supporting cast kinda fools people into thinking Purdy is better than he actually is. Wish Mike We’ll, but I think he may regret this, especially if he doesn’t win a championship. GO BUCS!

  189. cmurda Says:

This franchise is cooked. Started with the idiot GM and Glazers keeping Todd after a default win of the division and it ended with Fat Licht failing to make a move when we were competitive. I don’t blame Mike at all. I’d run from this dumpster fire too. It’s time for the full regime change including useless Licht. He can’t grab Brady’s coattails anymore. Mike was gone the second our brilliant head coach gave up a 3rd and 28. He was gone that very day. Again, I don’t blame him. Lets let a coach that led us to a top 5 offense in favor of a coach’s resume that is laughable. This franchise is now laughable.

  190. JackofAll Says:

Ultimately we got stuck with too many holes to sign Mike again. We got Otten, RB and LB all signed for the price of Mike. We needed all 3 of those players, Mike was a luxury. Best of luck my man!

  191. SteveK Says:

Jason and Todd, thanks a lot. When you buffoons fail to sign Hendrickson, and miss the playoffs again, I’ll be crowing for a new GM and HC. This one hurts. Really unacceptable outcome.

  192. Homerjmitc Says:

To those who said seasons over?? Please root for another team.. Baltimore/kc/ lions didn’t even make the playoffs!!! Anything can happen..

  193. HeavyE Says:

    Give Thanks to our QB

  194. unbelievable Says:

Thank God we overpaid for Zyon McCollum and Cade Otton though.

Obviously those are championship pieces right there…

  195. bakerfan Says:

ever think that Mike may of been holding this team back…. Mike misses a lot of games and Mike drops a lot of passes, that are overlooked because well because he is Mike.

Get younger now, Rashid Shaheed, George Pickens are prime in years. Heck Deebo Samuels played in 16 games last year, I would take that.

Allocate that money to Hendrickson signing and all will be forgiven.

  196. OrlandoBucFan Says:

I am a huge Mike Evans fan, but I am not sad about him leaving. I wish him well in San Fran. I’m more concerned about our defensive line and defensive backfield. We’ll miss Dean more if Morrison doesn’t take the next step in his development. I hope Licht can sign Hendrickson.

  197. LEE COHEN Says:

ME13 is a TD machine. We lost a great receiver.

  198. Homerjmitc Says:

Cmurda — if this franchise now cooked then go root for the Seahawks as they are Theo ly ones that one— Baltimore/lc/ Detroit must be cooked to then right? They missed the playoffs

  199. Pewter Power Says:

I CALLED IT. Should have fired Bowles

  200. cmurda Says:

@ Bucdaddy. I understand trying to justify it but that’s all it is. Mike played great football when he got back and doesn’t have a history of injuries. I totally understand your rationalization but I think it’s trying to ease the pain more than it is reality.

  201. JS Says:

Sorry Joe. Listen to Ira’s podcasts weekly but you did not read the situation correctly. Rick Stroud called this 2 weeks ago, gotta give him his due.

  202. LynchMob50 Says:

I smell a Todd Bowles extension coming soon.

The culture is just so great!

Players just love Todd and his genius approach to the game.

    #SuperBowles

  203. Mike S. Says:

I don’t know what the Bucs are doing. They basically chose a perpetually injured Godwin over Evans. I said in 2022 after Brady left they needed to blow up the whole thing. I still feel that way Licht, Bowles, everyone needs to go. Instead of blowing it up while they still had valuable assets, they chose this NFL purgatory of mediocrity, where they stay just competitive enough to compete in their lousy division, but get farther and farther from a Super Bowl. Its job security: Licht knows he can’t survive a full rebuild. Until we get rid of him this team is gonna keep slowly bleeding to death.

  204. Lukes Says:

Surprised but not shocked. He seemed very exasperated with the way the team collapsed and probably lost hope! Like many of us!

  205. adam from ny Says:

both the bucs and mike F’ed up…

adam told them what to do…

    do the unprecedented move…

sign mike 2 years 50 mil and play the 3rd year for free…

everyone does well, and mike gets to pull a historical sports move that no one will ever do again…a big contract player, plays a year for free, to give back to his city…unprecedented and a classic move to add on to a hof career…

everyone F’ed up and didn’t listen to adam

  206. Chad Says:

HeavyE…. Blame 3rd and 28 and 4th and 15 Todd bowels defense. Baker wasn’t an issue. Mike was getting touches with baker.

  207. HeavyE Says:

San Fran, will be Strong Contenders now for Sure!!!

  208. unbelievable Says:

He’ll get a ton of red zone targets for sure.

  209. Ugo Says:

Some of you have the emotional maturity of a young child and its like you want to show everyone. Seek professional help, I can only imagine how poorly your react when actual bad things happen in your lives.

Now that that’s over, I’m sad to see Mike go but 27+ is a lot of money for an aging we with a history of yearly hamstring injuries that seem to get worse every year so I can’t blame the Bucs for not wanting to commit to that.

Anyone who call Mike a traitor or anything of the sort, get your head checked, this man took several team friendly deals to allow him to remain in TB for more than a decade, he’s done his part, the front office failed him, it became clear when he blew a fuse last season that he was probably done with this coaching staff.

  210. RVATom Says:

I LOVE Mike. But I wouldn’t be surprised if the deal is surprisingly a heavy performance based one and he doesn’t last long this season. It’ll be interesting to watch. I am going to bet he is on IR pretty quickly. But best luck to him. Congrats to Lynch if this works. Hate to see the egg on the Bucs face.

  211. Gman Says:

3 year 60 million? Good!! Nobody can blame ME13 for finding a sucker to pay that. Some of you are really embarrassing yourselves in these comments today. He was overrated anyway.

  212. HeavyE Says:

He left for a Better QB!!!

  213. BucsFan81 Says:

As a Bucs fan since 97 I am sad. If this doesn’t prove that Bowles should have never been kept I don’t know what does. This is on the owners

  214. cmurda Says:

Don’t be an idiot Homer. I’m a Bucs fan period. I don’t know about any other teams. My concern is only the Bucs. I’m upset. Is that wrong? Come on. It’s been a series of dumb moves. Go ahead and deny the obvious homer.

  215. jug1 Says:

we all love ME13 but guaranteed he pulls a hammy hauling in his first catch as a Niner

  216. unbelievable Says:

ever think that Mike may of been holding this team back…. Mike misses a lot of games

    What a dumb take.

Before last season, Mike averaged missing less than 1 game per season for his entire career.

  217. Ricardo89 Says:

    25/26: the lost season

  218. Lol Says:

    Really sad day today.

  219. Rick Says:

    bakerfan is RIGHT!

  220. Newbie Says:

Adam Schefter of ESPN reporting three year deal worth $60.4 million deal for Evans with SF. Speaks VOLUMES for what he thought about this team under this leadership. That’s not big money. At least he picked a franchise that will play meaningful football in 2026.

  221. Rocketman Says:

In the end, he didn’t think he had a shot at a Super Bowl with the Bucs (he’s not wrong about that – what head coach would you rather have?). I’ll bet it wasn’t just about the $$ deal.

  222. Jmarkbuc Says:

    Best of luck to Mike.

I’d want to go where there is an outstanding GM , HC, and DC too…

  223. Rick Says:

To those who challenge us Buc fans for knowing Bowles sucks and our season is over……….we hope you’re right.

  224. Capt.Tim Says:

    Heartbreaking.
Just not possible, to not let this one get you down.

  225. Chad Says:

Heavye. He left for an offensive minded head coach and a team with a good defense. Don’t baker will sign a big extension now so you can whine and cry even more

  226. Rover Says:

Gut wrenching. I mean no other way to
Spin it. I am absolutely speechless.

  227. nick houllis Says:

60 million dollars. thats a lot for each hamstring no way we should have paid that much money for Mike Evans when we have Godwin, Egbuka and McMillan. This isnt prime Evans, this got 1000 yards on last play of a 17 game season two years ago Evans. this is not John Lynch 2.0

  228. Tom Petty Says:

Oh well. Surprised but not that concerned really. We’ll see how his hunt for another SB works out in SF. Best wishes Mike šŸ‘šŸ¼

Will the Bucs look at adding another big/tall X reciever ?

Mike was great @ drawing PI’s and snagging some contested catches but his best days are behind him. Better not to have Zac and Baker feeling extra pressure to get him touches or 1K.

We drafted J-Mac and EE to be starters. Chris is looking like Chris again. Tez has a lot of potential. Time for Zac to get busy

  229. George R Says:

Don’t think that they wanted ME13. He was said to sign 3yr 60 million a year.

  230. Rocketman Says:

Bucs need to go get a tall tight end with hands

  231. Crack3rK Says:

I wish Mike13 the best. Hate it for Bucs fans. Defense was absolutely horrendous last season so how can anyone, let alone Mike13, believe it’s going to be any better when the architect of the disaster is still in charge? Mike, Thank you for giving every drop of effort for this team. You will be missed.

  232. Homerjmitc Says:

27-3 , Shanny was on the sideline for that can we please stop acting like like he’s this amazing coach- constant playoff chokes

  233. Deeboooo Says:

Maybe it’s just me, but I don’t think this was a coaching issue, we don’t have 20 million to spend on a WR. We have bigger needs

  234. Cleanhouse Says:

    You’re a real fool, Joe!
Shame on your irresponsible reporting leading up to this.

  235. Ljsolutions Says:

This is the cost of bringing back our head coach. Wish I could leave but as a fan I’m stuck waiting bowels out.

  236. Homerjmitc Says:

Let’s get Hendrickson and Tremaine edmunds

  237. Lt. Dan Says:

    Well said Tom Petty.

  238. DailyRich Says:

I think for us it was the years more than the dollars. Three years is a relatively long time for a 32-year old WR.

  239. Vsluc Says:

I get there were sentimental reasons to keep him, but Mike was clearly losing a step.

$60 million could be much better used elsewhere.

  240. Tbbbucsfan Says:

Tough to pay a 33, 34, and 35 year old WR 20 mil, especially when you’re paying Godwin already and have Ebuka who ideally levels up this year.

I wish we could have kept him on 2 for 40 with 20 guaranteed but I get why he wanted 3 years.

  241. Chris Says:

He said he wanted to be a Buc for life… well that’s not true Todd Bowles and his staff are to blame but it’s done now. We still have a good receiving corp so we will see

  242. HC Grover Says:

Good Grief. Poor Joe. He just escaped Bowzo. Wish we all could.

  243. Alanbucsfan Says:

    Shanahan

  244. Ballwasher61 Says:

He’s already removed from Bucs home page @ 3:09. It’s funny I heard LVD talking about only playing for Bowles, thought I heard Mike say that before but not this year. Maybe it was the 3rd year? Guaranteed money? Oh well.

  245. john Says:

    worst day ever…this blows

  246. HeavyE Says:

We lost M1K3, because of inaccurate qb.

  247. Dano407 Says:

Mike is a Bucs legend. But he’s always hurt. I pray the Bucs address the pass rush now!

  248. Adrnagy Says:

Mike Evans can still play. Play for 6 games. Why over pay him his days are over. Good choice to let him walk. He choose to walk.
We got Godwin. McMillan. Egbuka. Tez. Gainwell. Bucky. Not bad. Let’s focus on defense.

  249. Badbucs Says:

If we were given the last look to match the price, either Mike turned us down because he didn’t trust Bowles or we didn’t match the price. I bet it’s the former. Mike knew who Bowles is. JL would have matched 20 mil. Mike made the choice. Good for Mike.

  250. Bucs3 Says:

    Tell me this Joe

How did the Bucs not keep Evans for 20 a year that’s all 49s gave

Tax base here is half of California so take home he could make more here at like 18 a year

Something else drove him away OR Glazers went cheap

We paid Godwin 20 to stay why not Evans

Godwin left for something else not money

  251. HC Grover Says:

It is all about the Benjamins. Get over it.

he is going to the most gayest place in America even more gay than Atlanta hmmm sus mike very sus and yes lynch we see this betrayal

  256. HeavyE Says:

John Lynch, one of the Greatest Safety’s to play the game, and now one of the Greatest GM’s in the Game!

  257. GatorBucs Says:

After 3rd an 28, Mike was done with Bowles

  258. M1K3 Says:

    It was 3RD & 28 C’MON MAN!

    PEACE OUT TAMPA!

  259. Ash Says:

20 mil per season bucs were willing to pay that I’m sure that tells you all you need to know about what Evans thought bucs chances are for a Superbowl wow lol

  260. bakerfan Says:

Chin up Mike Evans fans…. you saw his best years. It brings to mind a football movie called “Everybody’s All-American” starring Dennis Quaid as the Grey Ghost.

Ghost ended up on another team in his last year and had to watch diminishing skills is a tough watch.

You can buy the NFL ticket and watch Mike’s diminishing skills occur just because of age. I would say better catch him early but heck he may start out on the IR due to hamstrings.

  261. Alldaway Says:

Licht has no excuses now to upgrade the defense.

  262. Idroolpewter&red Says:

He might be thinking he’s closer to another SB ring in SF than he would be staying in Tampa, but he’s in for a bit of a culture shock moving from TB to SF Bay Area.

  263. JustOneGame Says:

Is it to early to start talking about next years free agents & draft?

  264. LynchMob50 Says:

We need a Jason Licht confidence poll now!

3rd and 28 + No Coaching Change sealed this before the season ended. He doesn’t want to go out on a mediocre team. I wish him only the best!

  271. #1bucsfan Says:

It’s only 20 mill a year. This says a lot more about who is throwing him the ball. Is Brock Purdy really that much better than baker.

  273. Vanessa Anne Says:

    I’m heartbroken. šŸ™

  274. Winny Testaverde Says:

Sad? Of course…he was a great player for a long time. I actually think this may age well in the Bucs favor. The last 2 seasons were injury riddled…and as fun as the finale of the 2024 season was…you could argue they went out of their way to get Evans over 1000 yards for the streak. Gilmore had him talked into leaving…we shall see if Evans enjoys the West Coast. We wish him well no doubt.

  275. Co-Z Coolman Says:

He took less money than we offered. He wanted out. Grateful for 12 good years, wish it were different. Lets let these young guys cook on offense, and build a respectable defense. We can win without him. Go Bucs

  276. adam from ny Says:

the word for mike is brittle…

he seems a little brittle at this point…

i’ve watched him for a long time and brittle is how i describe it…

but yeah i still wanted out great aging hofer back in the building,,,

    sad day in tampa bay

  277. Crazyhorse54 Says:

Whether it’s a CEO or custodian or NFL player, there will be a tipping point the causes him to say, ā€œEnough!ā€ The 3rd & 28 did it for Mike I’m convinced. This points to the fact that TB’s defense quit and didn’t care. Those who quit are still on the team and are cancers. The HC is still here, too. Where there is zero accountability great players will leave. This is a strong indictment about the Bucs FO and pathetic HC. I’m not surprised as ME is a winner and is attracted to those committed to greatness. May the message of accountability find its place with the owners. It begins with them.

  278. Brohande Says:

This is what happens when you have a lame duck HC that should have been fired as soon or before the last season ended. 3rd and 28. #ImDone

  279. Dale W Says:

For those saying that we should now have money to improve the team… I say how? It does matter who you bring in for Def or Off, as long as this team is coached by Todd Fning Bowles, we will NEVER win a championship PERIOD. If your goal is to break .500 and sneak into the playoffs. By all means, enjoy Bowles in all his glory. But just remember, the consummate team first guy just walked out the door because he knew this.

  280. Sal Volatile Says:

My take is this; It wasn’t about the $$$$. ME played with a home town discount here on his past contracts. At one point CG made more than Mike. This was about Bowles and the front office and the owners and the new OC. He’s going to a better overall situation. I think Baker will be wanting to leave also. I don’t see ME13 choosing to live in SF CA and pay CA income tax over Tampa FL. This is about the 49ers organization and a real shot at a SB. Congrats John Lynch.
I may be wrong but I think the Bucs are done.

Co-z great take— and to those of you that says this is on baker…. Baker was the one who went out of his way to get me the final 5vyeards needed for his last 1l season.. as a life long Buccs fan this sucks.. but how about we focus on Alex/ kg/ otten—. And the others coming Tampa may actually be better

  282. Anon Says:

The Bucs have now chosen Bowles/Licht over Coen, Harbaugh, and Evans.

  283. Kgh4life Says:

Shannon is a damn good coach. Certainly leaps and bounds above TB. Shannon is gonna get Mike the ball and go deep in the playoffs.

  284. Wouldn’t pay a single Buc to see this squad Says:

    So much belief in Todd

  285. Aceofaerospace Says:

I wouldn’t have hung around for another wasted season with Lovie Bowels either. I blame this on whoever made the decisions to keep Bowels the last 3 years. Good luck Mike. You’ll be missed.

  286. Erik with UniqueModernArt.com Says:

    Bucs got worse today.

This is an indictment of the State of the Franchise.

    Bucs suck.

  287. Tampa Bay Demon Says:

    screw off then, Mike.
    Beyond pissed.

  288. When is enough enough! Says:

Thank you for your services Mike. But time to hang them. Washed up. 13 mil was to steal for someone who was always injured.

  289. When is enough enough! Says:

Thank you for your services Mike. But time to hang them. Washed up. 13 mil was to steep for someone who was always injured.

  290. BucU Says:

Ok it sucks that Mike is gone but lets be real here. If he stayed we’d go 9-8.
So now we’ll go 8-9. Bottom line is this organization has returned to being completely and utterly irrelevant. All is back to normal in Loserville.

  291. DailyRich Says:

I do like the possibility we’ve been talking about and speculating on since the season ended is somehow “the unthinkable.”

I see Mike dropping a deep pass to knock them out of the playoffs. Lol

  293. Scottish BucBob Says:

Mike knows what all of us know.
As long as Todd is in charge of this defense then this team isn’t going anywhere.
This isn’t sour grapes, this is based on his defense’s performance since he took over as head coach.

  294. JA Says:

Odd choice—he couldn’t be much further from the place he’s set up roots.
    Perhaps there’s a John Lynch connection, I don’t know.
Or maybe it was the head coach. Going from worst to first there.
Be interesting to hear from Mike, if he chooses to explain his decision.

  295. Dale W Says:

All that being said… Nothing but love for a true Bucs warrior. Never questioned if Mike Evans left anything effort on the field. I wish you nothing but the best Mike and hope you get another ring… especially since we don’t have to worry about him knocking the Bucs out of the playoffs

  296. JohnQCitizen Says:

Mike has been good for the Bucs. The Bucs have been good for Mike. With Bowles still the head coach, ask yourself what you would have done if you were Mike at this point in your career. Me too. God’s speed, Mike!

  297. Stpetematt Says:

    Heartbreaking. Just heartbreaking.

Don’t understand why we didn’t just tag him.

  298. MelvinJunior Says:

I knew it was a ā€œDid Dealā€ once I heard that John Lynch and the Niners were in hot pursuit. It is a straight-up INDICTMENT on Baker Mayfield specifically, but also of this current Bucs ā€œLICKT & BOWLESā€ regime. It’s mind-blowing that LICKT and the Glazers refused to pay THAT (with zero state income taxes, & STILL couldn’t get there), especially when supposedly, they are already ā€˜on-the-hook’ for $13-MIL in dead cap money, regardless. It makes NO sense.

They BETTER get a 3rd-around Comp Pick BACK. Cause, at this point you HAVE TO PAY for ā€˜draft-picks’ if you are in the Bucs position and condition… Especially, with THIS upcoming ā€˜all-time’ LOADED 2027-Class. You HAD TO have Mike available to MOVE at this year’s deadline, for MULTIPLE PICKS (or at least a 2nd). Another Wasted Opportunity.

I’m tellin’ ya, this current regime doesn’t know WTF they’re doing. The Glazers need to just SELL THE TEAM, and get TF OUT. Take their $$$$ and RUN. They are CHEAP AF ā€˜penny pinchers’ šŸ’Æ, and you canNOT convince me otherwise. I can ā€˜see-it’ with MY OWN EYES. So, Wake Up. Hell, it’s obvious. Last year was ā€˜the time’ (in THAT division), and they did absolutely NOTHING. I mean, didn’t even TRY. Not on Micah Parsons. NOT on ANYONE.

They could prob get $10-BILLION, at least! EASILY, if they put the team up for sale on the open market. NOW is the time, before Trump leaves office and all of this ā€œMarxist-Communistā€ BS takes over. They (some states) are going to start going after all of these sports franchises (and ALL billionaires) especially HARD. JL doesn’t have even THE FIRST clue, without Tom Brady telling him WTF to do. Godwin over MIKE… Remember THAT. The Gainwell move was a TOTAL DESPERATION MOVE. šŸ’Æ

  299. QB12 Says:

I am ok with him leaving.

He certainly has earned the right to close out his career on his terms.

The harsh reality though is that his last 2 seasons were plagued by injury and at his age that is not trending in the right direction…same holds true for Lavonte.

The NFL is a violent sport and is so tough on the human body expecially as they age.

I don’t remember seeing the amount of serious injuries in ther NFL than in the last few years.

I doubt this decision ages well for Mike…but if he can stay healthy, he will put up his numbers…but for 3 years?.

  300. TampaTown Says:

Wonder why players are jumping off like rats on a sinking ship? I feel sorry for Baker. Poor guy he’s left as the captain of the Titanic yet again. Thank you Mike for a million wonderful memories. Good luck on getting that 12th year 1000 yards receiving. No one deserves it more than you. Will the last remaining season ticket holder please shut off the lights when you leave? The rest of us don’t give a sh!t anymore.

  301. LUVMYBUCS Says:

    Draft WR Malachi Fields!!

  302. adam from ny Says:

i knew something was up last year when they had, and still do have, 2 big tall bodied receiver projects on the PS roster…check for yourselves…2 guys built in the mike evans type mold…they’re on the PS roster from what i last know…they seem like scrubs – but i wouldn’t doubt one has the potential to be our 6th or 7th receiver next year…

i was sniffing this out last year, but didn’t want to ever think the team would let our best offensive player of all time mosey on outta here

  303. MelvinJunior Says:

@ Stpetematt Says: ā€œDon’t understand why we didn’t just tag him.ā€

Because, it was going to be for around $27-MILLION. For JUST ONE SEASON. And, you have ZERO flexibility with it. Can’t manipulate the cap with it, or ANYTHING. It would’ve been for a straight-up $27-MIL, and THEN WHAT!? You’re right back in the same boat AGAIN, for the next offseason. And, NO ONE was giving MIKE that type of money, at this point of his career. I mean, the 49’ers/Lynch Deal, was nowhere even NEAR THAT, on a ā€˜year-to-year’ basis. It shouldn’t had taken anything even CLOSE to that, considering he only got like a 3-year/$60-MILLION Deal (and with HUGE state income taxes and living costs) with San Fran. He must’ve wanted OUT pretty BAD then… AND, the Bucs most SURELY insulted him with THEIR offer. But, hey… We got Chris Godwin tho Lmao.

  304. DrunkInYbor Says:

I told you he was gone. I thought Texans but at least I will get too see him play in the bay area.

  305. adam from ny Says:

    F it….

let’s draft a receiver again in the 1st round and act like madmen…

    lol…

we all saw the eggman hit the rookie wall like a big time crash test dummy

  306. mj Says:

i told you he was gone also the day he yelled at bowles and left screaming 3rd and 28 he was done with this loser bs, props to mike im a 49er fan bet they win a sb… tampa bay losers!!!

  307. mj Says:

ā€˜we’re going to allow him to explore free agency’ they didn’t way to pay

  308. mj Says:

at least Baker still has otter lol

  309. HomerSimpsonRocks Says:

3rd and 28. Now I can only hope the Bucs go 0-17 and the idiot owners are forced to fire Bowles.

  310. budlikedthebucarros Says:

3 and 28 and the slide at the end of year jerry rice and randy moss played for other teams and bowles killer cooper kuff it a business

  311. DrunkInYbor Says:

He had a great great career. Im happy for him. Who in their right mind wants to work with sniveling coward like Todd. Todd who gets great sleep before games. Todd who fires his O.C. who he handpicked then said needed another 2 to 3 freaking YEARS!! If any of us hired a person to a job so vitally important then turn around a year later and say he needs another’s 3 years to learn. After we lost the company soooooo much money and precious time on an idiot. they would say YOUR JUDGEMENT IS WHY YOUR FIRED TODAY!! PERIOD

  312. Les Says:

LOVE MIKE ,ALL THE BEST FOR MIKE ,A REAL TEAM PLAYER ! HE SAW THE WRITING ON THE WALL WITH THIS COACHING STAFF . BE BACK WITH JOHN LLYCH THERE GM THERE. GO GET ANOTHER RING MIKE YOU DESERVE IT ! THEY HAVE REAL FOOTBALL OWNERS .

  313. MelvinJunior Says:

The Otton move felt extremely desperate, as well.

  314. MelvinJunior Says:

Wonder what Mike got that was fully-guaranteed!? Good Ole Purdy is really going to like having Mike around there. He makes QB’s look BETTER. And, Purdy is pretty damn good to begin with. They could be VERY Dangerous, as long as Mike can stay healthy (and the rest of their roster, for once).

  315. Greg-therealone Says:

First of all, Mike Evans is my favorite Buc of all time by a mile. He deserves to be able to play wherever he wants to play. He suffered through how many bad seasons with how many bad quarterbacks? Good for him.

The problem is that he went to chase the best opportunity. And that opportunity was NOT here. Unfortunately, Jason Licht and the Glazers hooked the Bucs up with Bruce Arians and Todd Bowles. Bruce because he pulled that sleazy business with retiring or whatever and sticking the Bucs with Coach Mediocre for 5 years.

I do NOT want to hear one more syllable about a Buc Man or whatever. The one person who typified that in my opinion just left because of 3rd and 38.

There are a list of things that will make me happy. New Ownership, New GM and New Head coach. Either that or take your team get out of our city you carpetbaggers.

  316. SteveK Says:

The move was the franchise tag and negotiating. They did it twice with Godwin lol. Dumb move by Jason, Todd and the children G.

  317. Tautology Says:

Wow they keep that worthless HC nd let their greatest asset leave?. These Glazers are next level morons.

  318. Simeon4HOF Says:

He didnt leave bcuz he thinks 49ers are going to Super Bowl unless he dumb af

  319. SuperSpicyBucsMemes Says:

Joe – any comment about you being wrong all offseason????? You gonna eat crow or act lie it never happened….. I confronted Joe on twitter and he said

    “Yawn.
You don’t know what Evans wanted and why. Perhaps he’ll share”

be humble Joe & just admit you were blatantly wrong to the (obvious) signs that M1`K3 was gone. He doesn’t want to spend his last years of his career on a sinking ship
Joe isn’t hiding from anything. Joe strongly but not completely believed Evans would return. Why? Because Joe knew the team the Bucs feared could sign Evans and how strongly the Bucs would counter. Also, Joe was aware of how the Bucs uniquely approached Evans weeks ago. He’s gone. Joe gets some right and some wrong. This happens all year long. Not sure what your beef is. –Joe

  320. Simeon4HOF Says:

Not ecstatic we signed our #2 linebacker should have been done that.
And Cade Otton signing is a joke losing M1K3
    Pittsburg RB.
We better sign an Edge today and it better be Hendrickson

  321. Dale W Says:

    3rd and 28

  322. Larrd Says:

Going to be tough to sell tickets unless they nab Hendrickson.

  323. CBucs Says:

Best of luck with the Niners Mike, thanks for the memories and the Championship.

I’m curious as to how much Bowles staying factored into Evans decision? Not like he inspires confidence. I feel bad for Mayfield. Evans is gone and yet another OC.

  324. Simeon4HOF Says:

F Todd Bowles and F JL if he dont sign Hendrickson
