Joel Glazer Addresses Fans That Wanted Todd Bowles Fired
March 31st, 2026So today was the annual billionaire-to-blogger chat at the NFL owners meetings in Phoenix. (For those wondering, Joe is the blogger).
Yes, there were a few questions for Buccaneers co-owner Joel Glazer about Todd Bowles, who enters his fifth season as head coach. Only six current NFL head coaches have a longer tenure.
Here was the opening exchange:
JoeBucsFan.com: The Raise The Flags documentary really highlighted your family as starving to win, fighters to win, and almost painted you as regular fans ready to win. The regular fan right now wasn’t very happy with Todd Bowles and kind of wanted to see a change like has been going on all over the league. What do you tell that fan about keeping Todd Bowles where he is?
Bucs co-owner Joel Glazer: I’d say, you know, as a franchise, everybody’s goal is to win the Super Bowl every year. That’s your hope, but only one team does win the Super Bowl every year. And in any given season you gotta look at the season, look at how things went, look at where the franchise is at, look at the totality of the situation year-in and year-out. That’s how you evaluate things. Last season started out great, didn’t end so well. Obviously, we were disappointed. Obviously our fans are disappointed. But there’s always a little more to it, you know. Every team has injuries but there were significant injuries last year at significant positions. And, a lot of close games down the stretch didn’t go our way. But we’re trying to build a championship team and you can try and throw a dart every year, or you can try to build a Super Bowl winning team. And we feel like we have a great team and we’re constantly building, building, building — adding to the foundations of what we have. And if you look at our roster, look at our team, we think we’re great in a lot of spots, but like a lot of teams you have to add. Obviously, ultimately the head coach is the one who has [the won-loss record] fall at his feet, but I know Todd is very respected in the locker room and nobody wants to win more than Todd.
Joe assumes the “dart” to which Glazer referred was a reference to a major coaching change and/or a big splash in free agency.
More to come on ownership feelings on Bowles and his performance.

Good luck selling tickets this year Butthead, especially if you get off to a slow start….. “We gotta coach it better”……shut up!
March 31st, 2026 at 3:54 pm
Horrible decision to keep him as the head coach. His defense stinks.
March 31st, 2026 at 3:54 pm
Did anybody ask the Glazers why their best offensive player in franchise history and future Hall of Famer in Mike Evans was happy to take a major pay cut just so he could leave the Tampa Bay Bucs?
March 31st, 2026 at 3:57 pm
So wanting to see the Bucs with a head coach who can take the team deep into the playoffs, is like expecting the Bucs to win a Super Bowl every year?
Bowles is barely over .500 as a coach, lots of early exits. But it’s all about fans wanting a championship every year?
The man is living in a bubble, and making it very hard to be a 50 year Bucs fan.

maybe im too old school but growing up coaches use to say: injuries are apart of the game!!
now, injuries ARE excuses IF you dont win….dont hear 9ers making excuses…or DEN…
GO BUCS!!!!

Mike left because he isnt loyal he also doesn’t trust baker carr or todd who blows as a headcoach f mike evans and his new team dont care about nothing in fruitcake town i bleed dodger blue

The thing with building foundations is typically it’s to support progression upwards. They have a foundation of players but the Coaching just keeps making these cracks in it so that building upwards is hindered and constantly making repairs to this existing foundation. Offemsive coaching turnovers, legendary players leaving, defensive scheme that has been found out by the entire league so much so that backup qbs are able to demolish it. In order to build uo, you need a coach that can lead us to it, rather than taking steps backwards.

Glazer…get him out. That report reveals the Buc Disaster and the Irritated Bowles Syndrome. Glazerbabble.
March 31st, 2026 at 4:01 pm
Tell the Glazers I just used some of the money on Bucs tickets that I will not be buying this season to get tickets and merch for my family to see 98 Rockfest at the Sound this past Friday. Three Days Grace, I Prevail and Dleep Theory put on a way better show than the product the Glazers are attempting to sell. 98 Rockfest was awesome and The Sound is an incredible venue on the water!
March 31st, 2026 at 4:07 pm
Typical Glazer babble that says a whole lot of nothing.
March 31st, 2026 at 4:16 pm
Bowles is truly on that..Hot Seat this upcomig season. Licht is too. A lot of us, including me are still pissed about their retention. But we shall see. I still don’t think they adequately addressed the DE position. Although they had a chance. Our bad defense last year is unforgetable. 3rd and 28 will echo in our ears until we see bigtime improvement.
March 31st, 2026 at 4:18 pm
Word Salad.
March 31st, 2026 at 4:20 pm
Perfect example as to WHY the Bucs are NEVER a consistent contender each and every season…. Really just every couple seasons and NOT an entire Season…
Owners would rather waste years on proven failures!
March 31st, 2026 at 4:20 pm
Baker and Bowles are tied at the hip, they both got one final year to see what they can do before getting the boot if they fail to win anything of value.
March 31st, 2026 at 4:21 pm
He pulled the “we had injuries” card out, when teams like the Niners had just as many, maybe more. Guess what? There’ll be injuries this year too, and the Bucs will probably/almost certainly will be poorly coached again this year.
March 31st, 2026 at 4:22 pm
I could have written that answer. Nothing for us fans in it.
March 31st, 2026 at 4:23 pm
How hard will Rod Munch cry if Baker gets his contract extended? 😂
March 31st, 2026 at 4:23 pm
Agreed with all comments made good luck selling anything of this soft bad coached team in 2026!!!!
March 31st, 2026 at 4:25 pm
the there is a little more to it part is them not wanting to spend on free agents hence there is no point in changing coaches
March 31st, 2026 at 4:26 pm
Idiots!
March 31st, 2026 at 4:28 pm
The Bucs had a record year in revenue last season, $630 Million
I think that’s the most important part to the Glazers
Hugh Culverhouse once bragged about the Bucs earnings
They were 2nd to only the Bears in earnings, despite never selling out
The 49ers had lost about $16 million, l think the Bucs earned $6 million
In Lakeland, we went about 10 years without seeing a Buc game
There was a blackout every game
March 31st, 2026 at 4:30 pm
Yep. Tossed Glazer Word Salad.
Mike Evans damn sure doesn’t respect him, nor should he. The guys who love Todd, love cupcake training camps and walkthroughs every day.
This team is as soft as Todd’s hanging belly
Bring On Mike T.
March 31st, 2026 at 4:31 pm
It’s a pattern of duck. It is the DC which happens to be the HC. They don’t want to pay 2 coaches this year. But next year when we fire Bowles and hire Tomlin they will have to for 1 year.
March 31st, 2026 at 4:36 pm
No substance whatsoever. Blah, blah, blah.
March 31st, 2026 at 4:36 pm
We have to play better, we have to coach better.
March 31st, 2026 at 4:36 pm
They’re making their money
A record year in revenue last season, $630 Million
It’s their way, or the highway
A drop in ticket sales won’t hurt them
They will just find another way to get rid of thrm
March 31st, 2026 at 4:37 pm
For those who hate the Glazer’s here is an idea, take $6Billion out of your account and buy the team. Next move would be to pick a new coach, then sign Munich’s favorite QB, Shedeur Sanders. See how easy it is.
March 31st, 2026 at 4:38 pm
“A lot of close games down the stretch didn’t go our way.”
Gee, does any of that fall on the coach?
March 31st, 2026 at 4:43 pm
I wont be buying tickets!!!!!!
March 31st, 2026 at 4:45 pm
writing is on the wall glazers see this team as a rebuild
March 31st, 2026 at 4:50 pm
“As owners, we put together an ownership of owning, and own. We’ll keep hoping things go better, of course. Pardon me Todd, pass the Grey Poupon”
March 31st, 2026 at 4:58 pm
What is comes down to is Money
The Glazers Knew there were too many coaching spots open so competition for coaches was high intern pushes money up
Keeping Bowles hurts the Glazers How?
Yall will still buy merch and go to games
Yall will drop 200$ inside stadium
Parking
Glazers still make money
Bowles was a business decision 100%
Not going to win with this team
Even if we kept Evans
March 31st, 2026 at 5:05 pm
Did the Glazers ask the fans what coach they should have hired? How much to offer? Do the fans want to give their personal information so they can be publicly harassed if thigs don’t go as planned?
March 31st, 2026 at 5:09 pm
How many seasons in a row does a team need to have a mid season collapse before this guy gets fired? In previous years he was saved by a dreadful division and the team was lucky to make postseason. I had more optimism in the Lost Decade than I do for this upcoming season. Not even remotely excited about this upcoming season.
March 31st, 2026 at 5:09 pm
But you have to give credit, when credit is due
The Glazers are smart business people
They know how to turn a profit
And they have 2 Lombardi Trophy
March 31st, 2026 at 5:10 pm
“ And in any given season you gotta look at the season, look at how things went, look at where the franchise is at, look at the totality of the situation year-in and year-out. That’s how you evaluate things.”
Does he think the fans don’t have eyeballs? What does he think we, the fans, look at?
I look at all the things in his vague quote, I have looked at them intensely for the last 5 years and my eye ball test along with Bowles overall record in this league, leads me and other fans to 1 simple conclusion. Can’t win big games with Todd.
Just more BS from the Bucs brass. The old boys club protecting a friend and counting their poker chips while we keep anteing up for them.
March 31st, 2026 at 5:39 pm
heehee – the NFL is a business and NFL owners’ primary objective is to make as much money as they can and secondarily to be involved with glitz and celebrity like movie producers – it’s entertainment as a consumer product – the owners want to sell the product to the fans -.winning is not necessary to keep the fans loyal if the owners can put out fluff like Raise The Flags – fans will accept poor performance if their emotions can be riled up by such a slick promotional video – look at the loyal Jets and Browns fans – so when the Glazers say they are committed to winning a Superbowl it doesn’t pass the giggle test – that kind of talk just merits an eyeroll – so to sum up : the Glazers are not serious about winning – Licht is not serious about winning just making excuses – Bowles is probably somewhat serious about winning but is not a good coach – Baker is serious about winning but he and the team have their deficiencies – bad owners- bad GM – bad HC
March 31st, 2026 at 5:40 pm
He is right definitely with one thing. Only one team wins the superbowl, and only one teams fanbase and team is happy at the end of year. With that being said, the bucs in 2026 are not super contenders With or Without Todd bowles as head coach. So why pay a guy Millions to Not coach your football team.
Why? Because fans are threatening to sell their tickets and not show up to the game. HELLO, the Bruce Arians and Tom Brady led bucs had a home game against the Buffalo bills, and Half of the Stadium was wearing Blue.
March 31st, 2026 at 5:51 pm
Chose a mediocre (and that’s being generous) head coach over the face of the franchise.
Way to go, Glazers.
March 31st, 2026 at 5:52 pm
Everybody keep your receipt’s now. So we can tell the Glazers what a bunch of Smooth brains they are next season.
March 31st, 2026 at 5:54 pm
Follow-up:
“Well, Joel, Coach Dungy was also well respected in the locker room. But you canned him after making the playoffs. And Coach Gruden suffered though injuries to key players his last season. They were 9-3 and lost 4 straight. And you still canned him after 9 wins. Bowles had an extra game and only won 8. And also, 3rd and 28 and 4th and 14. Remember? So what’s different with Bowles?”

Is the coach the one that can’t complete an easy wide open 4-yard pass on 4th and 4 with the game on the line?
March 31st, 2026 at 6:06 pm
This fanbase thought the Bucs would pay big money to a HC
Bruce Arians is the highest paid HC they’ve had, 4 years $24 Million
There were zero chance of them firing Bowles and hiring John Harbaugh
They wasn’t going to pay Harbaugh $20 million a year to make the playoffs
They can make the playoffs with Bowles for less than $5 Million
And they sure wasn’t going to pay Liam Coen $10-12 million a year
The NFL is a business, and it’s run as a business
The Glazers are business people making sound business decisions

Obviously, ultimately the head coach is the one who has [the won-loss record] fall at his feet, but I know Todd is very respected in the locker room and nobody wants to win more than Todd.”
This quote sounds a whole lot to me like he knows we have roster holes and aren’t ready to win a championship but Todd gets the blame. if that’s the case then why didn’t we make more moves in free agency if they actually want to win a Super Bowl? Long story short the Glazers aren’t that hungry to win a Super Bowl, or should I say there are other owners of franchises who are hungrier.
March 31st, 2026 at 6:12 pm
Why do people constantly use Bowles overall record as an excuse when a large part of it was with the hapless New York Jets? Bowles is over .500 here and after this year he should be several games above .500 (please no more major injuries!)
This team cannot win consistently with 100 million in salary in the training room. That’s just an unfortunate, unlucky fact.
March 31st, 2026 at 6:17 pm
Is Todd Bowles a good coach? Yes, but I don’t think he’s an elite coach that can turn an average team into a contender. He’ll need above average to great players to win and contend with, and right now, the Bucs are lacking elite talent at critical positions, this is a mediocre team that teeters at around a +/- .500 win percentage. We have a good but not great qb, offensive line and wr room, but we need help at all other position groups in order to compete, dominate and win on a consistent basis. I’ve been a Bucs fan since ’87 and a football fan since the mid ’70s, in all that time, I’ve seen what good teams look like and right now the Bucs don’t pass the eye test as to what a good team looks like. Just keeping it real and go Bucs!

Because it matters. The things he does here (gutless playcalling, questionable game management) he did in NY. He’s STILL doing it here. Google Todd Bowles, Jets articles and you could literally swap Jets with Bucs and NY for Tampa Bay and the article would be accurate.
He is who he is. He won’t change. He CAN’T change. That’s the issue.

Thanks Joel…
We have already factored in everything, and the SEASON did not start out great!
Yes the book shows 3 wins, but the DEVIL is in the details of last second come from behind wins.
You had a SUPERIOR head coach in the building
Gone like the wind!
The customer has run out of excuses and is ANGRY!
March 31st, 2026 at 6:29 pm
Bowles always gets a no confidence vote from me even when this team was 6-2.
Why? Because the guy is a .500 coach that can’t get this team to the SB. Every year, same result. Bowles is a mediocre head coach at best and a pathetic DC. He gives guys that are non performers starting jobs and Licht is right there with him drafting losers on defense and sitting on his thumbs in free agency. Any competent coach would be raising hell with Licht for not getting him the players he needs. This season will likely be a disaster because the Bucs are just playing musical chairs replacing players with marginal free agents on defense. The defensive schemes will not change and the players will not perform any better. The sad part is that Licht will draft defensive players that will need to start before they are ready. No worries because they are special and will blow up. Another year of hype and gaslighting and now the Glazers are part of this BS narrative. Fans are not buying it this time around.
March 31st, 2026 at 6:29 pm
Bowles is a great coach with a great qb, great offensive line, and great wr’s. Very good+ running backs. Above average tight ends.
The defense is where we need most improvement by far. It can get a LOT better in just 1 year if we improve tackling efficiency dramatically and generate a much stronger pass rush as well as cover better. Great linebackers can really help with *all* that! Maybe we should draft 2 of them in the first 2 rounds, then a corner and DT. With all that, we can win a *lot* of games this season. Maybe 12 or 13 if we’re lucky and avoid major injuries!

Welcome to florida 941 The new new york…UGH
March 31st, 2026 at 6:34 pm
Imagine if they don’t start fast, then there’s no buffer for the usual mid-season slump and recent collapse.
This team is building very little.
Apathy
March 31st, 2026 at 6:36 pm
The Glazers has brought 2 Lombardi Trophies to Tampa
I’m all in with them
Whatever they decide to do, I’m all for it
After all, they made the Bucs revelant
March 31st, 2026 at 6:37 pm
We all k ow it was an unfortunate business decision,… we still dont like it!
March 31st, 2026 at 6:47 pm
Ahh he makes a TON of sense!!
Before reading this article, I had NO CLUE that only ONE team wins the Super Bowl…
I’m very glad he cleared that up!
March 31st, 2026 at 7:00 pm
I guess many here have forgotten that Tampa won the superbowl in 2020. They were building a team in 2018 and 2019, the Glazers and Licht brought in Arians and then they brought in Brady and went out and got whatever more they needed sparing no expense to make a superbowl happen. That sounds exactly like what he was describing to Joe in that interview. They are trying that formula all over again. They might be a little behind in the process this time but that’s because they had a cap situation to deal with. The Bowles haters might very well be right that he’s not the guy to pull it all together. If they have another bad year, I think they’ll dump Bowles for sure this time especially if there are no extenuating circumstances that can be pointed to this time as reasons for a failed season. The good news is that this will still be a team with a good veteran core and a younger core that will be addded to in this draft. If they don’t give away the farm extending Baker and limit the guaranteed money, they’ll still have a roster that can attract a good young coach. If that coach is not a Baker guy, he’ll only be saddled with him in 2027. In 2028 that coach can move on from Baker. Yes they could have done that this year too but they didn’t so everyone has to just live with it.
March 31st, 2026 at 7:07 pm
I would kinda agree with Mr. Glazer IF our defense wasn’t so terrible for the past few seasons.
But it was, so I definitely think Bowles deserved to get fired.
March 31st, 2026 at 7:08 pm
Munch will always follow you because he’s a true patriot. Ordered his new anzalone jersey to prove it.
March 31st, 2026 at 7:11 pm
Its difficult for him to put into words that the team is tanking to build for a future championship. He knows Bowles will give 100% along with the roster he constructed and will win 5 games out of 17. Its gonna be a long season.
