Alex Cappa Becomes A Free Agent

March 6th, 2026

.

Ineffective backup guard play hurt the Bucs last season.

Joe would be just fine never seeing Dangerous Dan Feeney play another game and watching Michael Jordan sign with the Falcons.

Sure, those guys had good moments. So did Charlie Heck, but being a backup offensive lineman is about consistency. And they were all lacking.

The Bucs need better veteran backups on the interior offensive line.

Alex Cappa was the Bucs’ Super Bowl season stud at right guard. Cappa, a Bucs third-round pick in 2018 had a strong 2021 season, then told Tom Brady, ‘no thank, bruh‘ and left for the Bengals in free agency on a fat contract.

A year ago, Cappa went to Brady’s Raiders on a two-year contract but was cut today, per various reports. Locals in Las Vegas say Cappa didn’t play well at guard but actually impressed when pushed into starting duty at center.

Now 31 years old, it appears Cappa has quality, versatile backup written all over him.

This isn’t Joe looking to the past; it’s Joe looking to the future — hopefully one that puts a better backup in the Bucs’ offensive line room.

Sure why not he’s familiar with Bowels and Licht. Maybe he won’t get hurt

  2. Kgh4life Says:

After Cappa left the Bucs his play took a dip.

  3. Doooshlarue Says:

    He was never that good.

  4. Deeboooo Says:

Was this guy on the Oline squad that got Burrow murdered in the early season?

  5. Jcolli311 Says:

Licht does have a thing for big guys with long red hair on the OL…why not, maybe coming back to familiar ground might give him a bit of a boost, especially if the price is right.

  6. FortMyersDave Says:

Cappa could be a decent depth piece, particularly if he could play center as was mentioned above.

  7. Marine Buc Says:

Better than Dan Feeney but not by much.

Sign him if he will play for the league minimum…

  8. Football 1 Says:

Joe I am with you on hopefully never seeing Feeney again. I don’t know whom I don’t want to see more Feeney or Dennis. I think having Capps for depth would awesome. Yes Jordan is a close 3rd.

  9. Steve V. Says:

Banks from Florida next to vea

In the NFL, starting-quality players have an excellent chance to find starting positions on some team. “Depth pieces” are not going to outplay opposing starters. A backup offensive lineman is only a guarantee that the offense can have seven men on the line of scrimmage. Free agency and the salary cap do not allow teams to stockpile starting-quality players on their rosters. Last year, the Bucs did fine until the break when opponents had time to game plan against Tampa’s second-string lineup rather than the starters projected at the beginning of the season. People say injuries are no excuse. That’s inspirational motivational talk. In reality, they are at least a very reasonable explanation for a drop off in performance. There are probably half a dozen teams that were eliminated from contending for the Super Bowl because injuries reduced them to playing backups. The Broncos, for example, off the top of my head.

Definitely would be a valuable addition. Can he Rush the Passer too?

  12. NJBucsfan23 Says:

    No thanks

  13. Aqualung Says:

Clear that when he left the house of Todd, his game imploded. In fact, it’s his fault the Bucs finished 2-7 last year. Go sign Oneils Cousin, he was a beast .

  14. Hopein1hand… Says:

His injury really hampered him in his time with the Bungles. He got a shot in LV based on his Bucs performance but never returned to that old form. If we are going to the OL way-back machine I would sign 31.5 year old Aaron Stinnie. He has a clean injury history and can be enticed away from the Giants for a couple more pennies than they will offer him. Maybe $2 million per year, being generous in his market? He would have been nice to still have on the roster in 2025. Cappa has lost his magic like Davin Joseph sadly. Stinnie on the other hand is the guy who stepped in like a boss and helped the Bucs win a Super Bowl. Sign him for peanuts, please.

  15. Tdogg Says:

No he isn’t the same player he once was. Stop with this nonsense we need good players

  16. Ufc Says:

Sure we will just try to do the same stupid crap we always do and tell ppl ” pass rushers dont just become available. Well Jason u had the top three pass rushers in the last five gd years available and you chose your dog shy draft picks that you never hit on for defense again. Thanks

  17. Brian in FL Says:

    Bring him home

  18. Gipper Says:

Munch liked the 3rd string intramural OG’s that almost got Baker killed last year. As Munch explains things, we had really good O line play exceeded only by the Bucs stellar pass defense led by Jamel Dean and Zyon McCollum. The real problem the last 3 years has been Baker Mayfield. Mayfield’s meer 95 TD passes for his Buc career doesn’t count according to Munch. Munch would rather focus on the TD pass in the end zone that EE got two hands on and dropped. It was Mayfield’s fault because in the NFL every QB other than Mayfield throws perfect passes.

  19. Colin in Canada Says:

    Crosby traded to the ravens

  20. JA Says:

    Right up Licht’s alley.
Middle of the road free agent.
    The Ravens get Crosby.
Two first rounders, but they’re taking a risk in the name of winning.
    The Bucs take a nap.

  21. Capt ahab Says:

Crosby to the Ravens for two 1st. Ravens got fleeced.

  22. Canabuc Says:

    Crosby to Ravens

  23. Brooks Says:

Brady!!! That’s why everyone was better!!!
