A Mike Evans Replacement?

March 29th, 2026
Denzel Boston

Washington WR Denzel Boston.

So, yeah, the Bucs have a new hole on the roster.

When Bucs AC/DC-loving general manager Jason Licht had a sitdown at One Buc Palace recently with a select group of the local Fourth Estate, Licht sort of flippantly remarked how the Bucs now have a spot open after Mike Evans bolted to San Francisco.

Adding a receiver in the draft? It’s a crapshoot.

Bubbling up in the comments of this here website is the name of receiver Denzel Boston of Washington (not to be confused with Denzel Washington).

It seems this Boston is sort of a Mike Evans-type: tall, physical, and boxes out going up for the rebound pass. And Boston also seems to have good footwork along the sidelines (Evans’ footwork along the boundary was elite).

For research, Joe decided to go to veteran NFL scribe Bob McGinn’s annual draft guide, now found on the Go Long TD Substack. Joe loves McGinn’s guide because he quotes scouts to get intel on each player — positive and negative — so folks get a full picture of the player.

Evans’ name came up in the breakdown of Boston.

DENZEL BOSTON, Washington (6-3 ½, 210): Backed up for two seasons before starting all 25 games in 2024-’25. “He reminds me of Nico Collins with the body when he came out (in 2021, third round),” one scout said. “He’s probably going to have that same kind of developmental process. He’s more of a second- or third-round guy. He has length, size and really good speed. I’d estimate 4.45. He was a downfield threat for them. He was used so much down the field that you didn’t get to see a lot of that (inside). He’s got good hands but I don’t think they’re great. He’s got work to do there, but there’s only so much work you can do. Just like speed. If a guy doesn’t have great hands he’s never going to be super consistent at the next level. He is explosive off the ball. You can feel it when he’s in the game.” Finished with 132 catches for 1,781 (13.5) and 20 TDs. “He’s an X receiver,” a second scout said. “OK speed. He’s really more of a 50-50-let-me-outrebound-the guy. Body position, basketball player type guy. He’s a real starter.” Also a punt returner, bringing back 25 for an 8.5 average and one TD. “He’s got a little bit of Mike Evans in him but he’s just not as fast down the field,” said a third scout. “He’s got a lot of talent. He’s big and strong, runs good routes, great hands, separates, he’s physical. He’s probably like Tate in the speed department but I like him as a receiver better than Tate. He knows how to get open, set guys up, stop and start, good route runner. He doesn’t have the extra gear but he’s a really good possession receiver.” From South Hill, Wash.

Now Joe knows the Bucs need defense. Hell, Joe wouldn’t lose sleep if the Bucs only drafted the best defensive guy on their board in every round next month, regardless of position. This team not only has a lame defense, but virtually no depth.

But it never hurts to have a big target on offense, a guy comfortable fighting for the ball in traffic and in the red zone.

From what Joe reads, it seems this Boston is likely a second-round pick.

  1. jcscycles Says:

Combine statistics have him at 6’4″ and 212 lbs. And a 4.6 40.

His comparables are to Teteroia McMillan. He is definitely a X receiver and excels at cathching 50-50 balls.

He is rising in the draft and some mocks have him at the Late 1st round. Depends on how he scores in ranking, but he might be there when the Bucs pick in the Seond. Doubt he will make it to the third.

He would do well in our offense and take alot of the sting away from Losing Evans. It’s interesting that the 49ers had him in after they got Evans in free agency.

  2. Lakeland Says:

He’s the best WR in the draft

    77% catch ratio

  3. Gipper Says:

Would rather take Sadiq, slim him down, move him outside.

  4. Scotty Mack Says:

Looks a lot like Evans, the way he battles for the 50/50 balls. Exactly what we need and no longer have on the team.

  5. Stpetematt Says:

That’s the nice thing about Sadiq. YOU DON’T NEED TO SLIM HIM DOWN. He already runs a 4.39! At his size that’s outrageous.

  6. Stpetematt Says:

Sadiq will face linebackers and safeties who don’t have a prayer of staying with him too. Not x corners. If he went outside and an x corner went out across from him he could easily out-muscle him but better yet one of our other WR will be open deep. He’s a walking mismatch.

  7. Hodad Says:

Gipper, why slim him down? The bigger, the better. Fans think the Bucs are good at receiver, think again. Godwin is one ankle, foot, knee away from hanging it up for good. J Mac is coming off a broken neck. EE is our best receiver, and we hope Tez keeps getting better. Behind those guys we have a bunch of jags. We lost Evans, those are big shoes to fill, and Sheppard hasn’t been resigned if we even want him back. I would not be opposed to a 2nd round receiver.

  8. Geno712 Says:

So, we need to try at some point to get a red zone target.

However, it so unfair to compare Boston or anyone else to Mike Evans.

Evans catch radius is superior to almost anyone that ever has been in the NFL.
At 6’5 inches and an 82 2/8th inch wingspan there just were not players that matched him in the NFL.

    Boston at 6′ 4″ and a 77 6/8 wingspan.

When Baker saw Mike Evans — he effectively was throwing to someone with a target of a player that was 6′ 10 inches.

If Boston is on the Bucs next year — he will essentially be throwing to someone that matches his height and will be throwing to someone who is just the 6 feet 4 inches.

That’s a huge difference for the cornerback covering and a huge difference when that QB is throwing that fade route in the end zone or that back shoulder route on the sidelines.

Against Evans, a DB can have “perfect” coverage and still lose because Mike can snag a ball that is physically outside the DB’s maximum reach. Baker can have an imperfect pass in the Endzone, and it still will be a completion because of Evans reach.

  9. Kenton Smith Says:

Please Gipper and Stpetematt. You guys usually have the best feeling about players. Sadiq sucks. To put it mildly. He wins the bronze statue award and his raw athletic skills are outstanding. The guy wasn’t in the 100 receivers in yards or catches last year. 50 catches and 550 yards? What!! 8 touchdowns! What? And that’s twice the stats he had the year before that. Wasn’t Licht just saying that we’re gonna start putting more stock into production in college instead of RAS? Let a franchise pick this nobody, a franchise that savors a good kick in the teeth. That’s not us. This Boston kid has impressive production. Not even a comparison between these two. We already have Evans replacement. If we pick another receiver, man it’ll make me mad.

  10. BigD Says:

Why replace Evans with another similar x receiver, with actual production as an x rec, when you can replace him with a guy that’s not an x rec who had 1 year of production. Sounds like a plans Licht would do.

  11. Gipper Says:

    Gipper, why slim him down?
    ==============================
OK don’t slim him down. If available at 15 (doubtful), TAKE HIM.
There are a lot of LB’s and DT’s. Should be able to find good ones in 2nd and 3rd.

  12. Lakeland Says:

Vanderbilt TE, Eli Stowers won the John Mackey award (Best TE)
But he’s not your traditional in line TE, he’s more like Kyle Pitts
His production during his 2 seasons at Vanderbilt was off the chain

    111 receptions, 1,402 yards, 9 TDs
He’s also athletic like Sadiq, 4 51 speed, 40 inch vertical

But Sadiq don’t have the on field production

Stowers is 6’4 240 lbs, converted QB
Only been playing TE for 3 seasons

  13. Fanofdabucs Says:

Id rather find a big bodied X in the later rounds. WR isn’t a huge need like LBer, Edge. OL, CB.

The first 2 rounds have to address those needs. Gotta come away with some defensive players who can start right away at either LBer, Edge or CB..or a stud OL to push our guards and add depth.

  14. Show Me the TDs Says:

He looks a lot like Evans. Even uses the subtle push-off.

  15. garro Says:

I don’t think anyone is sure we have a hole yet. We will for sure miss Mike. Hoping we have a couple of of promising young dudes step up. Godwin stepped up after his first two seasons. Similar to our young dudes NFL starts?

However I still worry about Chris being the same as he has been after the last two seasons. So we need to consider his age and his health. We were WR poor for some time before Mike and Chris came. No, not forgetting about Jackson but he was it for a time. Would have been even better if Jaymiss had learned no throw it to the right jersey color.

    Go Bucs!

  16. Lakeland Says:

    Bowles has a 45.5 vertical

He also won the William Campbell award
As the top student athlete, the Academic Heisman

  17. Fred McNeil Says:

Well, I didn’t see Egbuka coming. I loved that pick later. I’d sure like to know where he went after the bye, but he was far from the only one. I don’t even remember who I actually wanted or who I thought they might take. This year I don’t have any preferences. I’d rather not draft Sadiq or however you spell that name. Heck, don’t that have any Smiths or Joneses in college anymore?

  18. Lakeland Says:

The Bucs signed 6’6 210 lbs Jaden Smith after rookie camp tryouts in late July
He got hurt, the Bucs put him on I.R, but he’s still on the roster

He’s their tallest WR on the roster

  19. Still Coconut Doughnut Says:

    Passes the sniff test

  20. Geno712 Says:

I am not a fan of drafting Sadiq in the first round but saying he sucks or is a statute or that Jason Licht should not draft him because he had no production is all false.

He led FBS TEs with 8 receiving TDs.

He set Oregon school recorda for TE with 51 receptions and 560 yards.

NFL.com graded him 2nd in production score among TE’s.

I mean Brock Bowers had 56 catches as a TE with 6 TDs his senior year and did not become an NFL bust even though there were 80 or 100 wide receivers that caught more balls than him that year.

But again, if we want Sadiq to be the red zone target that replaces ME, I am sorry neither Boston nor Sadiq will be a Mike Evans replacement.

  21. Erik with UniqueModernArt.com Says:

TMac is much faster than Boston.

But we do need a WR1 bcuz we don’t have one currently.

Egbuka can’t be relied upon consistently bcuz he drops too many balls.

    Godwin isn’t a WR1 outside receiver, either.

We currently do not have a legitimate WR1 on our roster.

  22. Todd Says:

Burks from Oklahoma is vastly superior.

  23. BucsFan81 Says:

I mean I will give the Bucs front office credit. That’s one area they know how to draft is WR

  24. JA Says:

He was only third team in the Big 10—not exactly a superstar grade for college.
His stats are there—appears consistent, so there’s a good chance he’ll have a solid career.
That considered, I wouldn’t be surprised if he fell to Round 2.
If we trade up for our first monster pick (ah, to dream!), grab him in with the second pick if he’s still there.

In an earlier story, Joe said Baker, although at times inconsistent, has moments of greatness. Agree—kinda like Kirk Cousins whenever he plays the Bucs.
Whenever you have a class divided on a player, he’s usually somewhere in the middle. Baker is not great, nor is he a bum. So pay him middle money if you want to keep him.
And keep this in mind: did half the NE fan base want to get rid of Brady when he was 30? Do half the fans in KC think Mahomes is average?
Best to keep it real with Baker, and that’s somewhere in the 15th best range.

  25. Lakeland Says:

If we draft a WR or TE

We just can’t draft them because of their speed, Athleticism
We have to draft a receiver that’s best for Baker, and this offense
That was the problem last season, we thought we had a top O-Line
But if you go back to early 2024, our offensive line stunk
Mainly because the Bucs wanted to run deep routes
But when Liam Coen went to the dink and dine offense
The O-Line became a top unit in the NFL
Last year Grizz went back to the vertical passing game
And our run game and passing game stunk
With that said, Denzel Boston is the best fit for Baker and this offense
So is Stowers, if you want a TE, because he’s a Move TE
And that’s exactly what Zach Robinson is looking for
Sometimes you don’t just draft the BPA

You draft the Best Player for your particular system

  26. Lakeland Says:

We don’t just need to draft BPA

We need to draft the Best players for our system
Denzel Boston is the perfect player for Zach Robinson system.
And he’s the best player for Baker and the OLine

We can draft a WR with 4.3 speed that stretches the field
But will Baker have time to get the ball deep
And deep passes are not a strength of Baker

Boston has a 77% catch ratio, good route runner, gets separation,
Stowers is a Move TE with great hands, good route runner,

  27. 3.28.Evans Says:

There is no replacement for Evans. No need to pretend there is.

  28. BillyBucco Says:

Yep and then that system changes because Bowles sucks.
Teams that draft for position are losers.

  29. Lakeland Says:

Sean McVay don’t even want those burners on his team
Because they don’t fit his system, he likes good route runners
Cooper Kupp, Puka Nacua, Devante Adams, those guys are 4 57 at best
But they get speration, and they can find a seam in a zone defense

  30. DS Says:

I like stowers if he makes it to the 3rd

  31. JA Says:

    Erik—

    Just visited your site.
Although my brain gravitates toward Impressionism, and the often maligned angry strokes from the earless one, et al (many others), I enjoyed your Modern Dali painting very much.
    Great work!

  32. JA Says:

    Erik—

I’ll quid pro quo ya—a book for the Dali.
    Haha—just kidding.

  33. Lakeland Says:

    DS,

The Bucs shouldn’t draft a TE higher than the 3rd round

  34. Destinjohnny Says:

    It sure ain’t Emecka

  35. Stpetematt Says:

Hi Fred M.- where Egbuka went after the bye was we lost both starting guards so we could no longer complete a pass longer than 5 yards before defensive tackles killed our quarterback. With our entire playbook down the drain and defenses keying short passes, we were stuck in neutral for the rest of the year…

  36. Doooshlarue Says:

Do his hamstrings automatically go out during training camp?

If so, he might just be our guy.

    ———–

11 straight years over 1000 yards, and this dipstick is talking about Evans being unreliable.

This is the type of commentary you’d expect from someone that thinks Chris Meyers is the best play-by-play guy in the NFL.

  38. Rod Munch Says:

Here’s the part people forget about Mike…

His combine measurements were a legit 6′ 5″ AND 231 pounds.

Some guy who is 6″ 3 and 210 pounds really isn’t in the same size class. Not saying Boston won’t be great or anything, but as a swap in replacement, they’re really not all that similar.

The only guy I can ever remember like Mike, was Vincent Jackson, who was also a legit 6′ 5″ and 241lbs at his combine – which would now make him a TE.

  39. Stpetematt Says:

Egbuka has a 1.5 second 10 yard split which is at the 97th percentile for acceleration. It’s because of that he will have a long and very successful career barring injury. He will get open a lot.

  40. MadMax Says:

I think we’re just gonna have to deal with who we got….Fields or Burks in the 4th or 5th wont hurt though.

  41. Lakeland Says:

Someone mentioned Brock Bowers college production

    Here is Bowers college stats
    40 games played

    175 Receptions
    2,538 YDS
    26 TDs
    14.5 YPC

190 yards rushing, 5 rushing TDs

I don’t see where Sadiq can be mentioned in the same sentence as Brock

  42. Lakeland Says:

Denzel Boston isn’t similar to Mike Evans
He’s similar to Drake London,, same built, same style of play

  43. Defense Rules Says:

Joe … ‘This team not only has a lame defense, but virtually no depth. Joe wouldn’t lose sleep if the Bucs only drafted the best defensive guy on their board in every round next month, regardless of position.’

LAME DEFENSE! NO DEPTH! Duh. And Duh again. What does it take for Bucs ‘fans’ to figure out that drafting WRs TWO years in a row DOESN’T FIX THE FRIGGIN DEFENSE. We didn’t fix several of our defensive ‘holes’ last year (DT & ILB especially), and aas a consequence we had terrible depth & fell to a #20 ranking (and a 8-9 finish). And if we don’t prioritize fixing this deteriorating defense starting this year, we’ll be a sub-500 team for years to come.

Bucs added 5 veteran players to our defense, 2 from Detroit, 2 from Carolina & 1 from Pittsburgh. All 3 of those teams had defenses last season that were ‘NFL average’ (Lions #22, Panthers #15 & Steelers #17). We didn’t bring in super-stars; we brought in some older bulldogs with nasty bites. That’s great as far as it goes, but we can’t stop there; we NEED some big, tough, nasty YOUTH. Those additions by themselves won’t get us a Top-10 defense.

We don’t need any more 5th, 6th or 7th Rnd YOUTH on our defense; we’ve got tons of those & they didn’t get us anyplace. Rarely can you replace a Rnd-2 LVD with a Rnd-7 ILB. Or replace a Rnd-3 Dean with a Rnd-6 CB. And we still need to replace Gaines as our rotational NT/DT with a quality pick to pair with Vea (and ultimately replace him). Bucs NEED to invest our top draft picks in our defense IF we expect to significantly improve this year and ‘set the table’ for 2027 & beyond.

  44. Obvious Says:

He’ll probably end up going late first.

Guys that are 6’3 215 with good speed and the ability to high point don’t last very long.

  45. HC Grover Says:

    Good. Draft all offense.

  46. Joe Says:

We didn’t fix several of our defensive ‘holes’ last year

Well Mr. Defense Does No Wrong, it would help if the defensive-minded head coach/defensive coordinator could develop talent.

How’s he done with linebackers? We already know his stellar work developing edge rushers.

  47. Simeon4HOF Says:

Trade down for Hill Jr or Rodriquez in Rd 1

  48. SB~LV 🏈 Says:

    Sadiq x’s 5 year
Opens every other eligible pass catcher.
I realize how desperately the defense needs HELP!

  49. Lakeland Says:

    Defense Rules,

I’m all for the Bucs mostly drafting defensive players
But the reason why the Bucs draft offensive players a lot
Mostly, because we have a new OC every year.
And the new OC want players to fit his offense

Last year Grizz said he wanted to go vertical
So they drafted Emeka and Tez

And now, Zach Robinson want to go with the 2 TE set
Last season the Falcons ran the 2 TE set 56. 3 % of the time
The Bucs ran the 2 TE set 28.3 % of the time

I think the Bucs draft offensive players early

  50. Todd Says:

You can only develop talent if there was a good quantity of it to start with. Take Joe Tryon Istinka-No talent to develop.

  51. Defense Rules Says:

Lakeland … ‘But the reason why the Bucs draft offensive players a lot mostly, because we have a new OC every year. And the new OC want players to fit his offense.’

Not sure I can buy that one Lakeland. I doubt seriously that rookie OC Grizz had any pull whatsoever with Licht & Bowles last year come draft time. Might be a bit different this year though with Zac Robinson.

This year’s draft looks to be good (defensively) for ILBs & CBs early. Plus there are a handful of DTs with promise; after that it looks like the talent level drops off big-time. Those just happen to be the position groups we need the most help in. IOW, draft them early or forget it. I vote for drafting them early.

  52. Defense Rules Says:

Joe … ‘it would help if the defensive-minded head coach/ defensive coordinator could develop talent.’

I don’t make excuses for Todd Bowles, but it would help if he was given some TALENT to start with in certain positions. KJ Britt (Rnd 5) obviously wasn’t a capable starter. Not about ‘developing’ KJ Britt; he wasn’t a NFL starter talent. Same with SirVocea Dennis (Rnd 5).

I’m convinced that Licht baically told Bowles that starting after 2022 (when Brady left) the Bucs were gonna be paying off our debts (getting our salary CAP somewhat straightened out after our Super Bowl adventure). We did that for FOUR years and the impact was obvious in terms of team TALENT:

    o 2022: Active 53-man cost: $199.0 mil (#3 ranking).
    o 2023: Active 53-man cost: $128.4 mil (#27 ranking).
    o 2024: Active 53-man cost: $139.3 mil (#19 ranking).
    o 2025: Active 53-man cost: $211.5 mil (#20 ranking).

I think we started turning the corner (barely) in 2025, and 2026 SHOULD be better.

  53. Lakeland Says:

There’s a lot of defensive talent in this draft
But there’s a lot of teams looking for defensive talent

I think the very best defensive players come off the board early
They will be gone when we pick at 15
That might entice Licht to draft an offensive player

  54. Rod Munch Says:

Bowles DID develop a young ALL-PRO LB that helped the Bucs win a SB by playing aggressive — and then Bowles took that guy, cut his balls off, and had him stand around in zone, then wondered why he no longer looked like an ALL-PRO.

Bowles also DID develop two great corners — then Bowles cut their balls off and told them to line up 15 yards off the LOS and stand around in zone, and then ran them out of town when they said the scheme was stupid and didn’t take advantage of what they were good at.

That all happened after Arians retired, and no one was around to force Bowles to be aggressive, so we’ve seen ‘The Turtle’ go into his shell. And no, I don’t care about the bogus ‘blitz’ stats – the Bucs play a 5-2 defense basically, but you can ‘blitz’ 5 all you want, if your defensive backs are told to stand around flat footed in a super soft zone, so even if pressure gets to the QB they always have an easy outlet standing wide open, often for decent yardage.

The issue with Bowles is he needs someone to force him to stay aggressive. When the Bucs, last year, played aggressively, that’s when they by far looked the best. Yeah, they’d give up some big plays here and there, but they’d also get turnovers and make stops. But much too often, in particular on 3rd down, Bowles just sits back in his super soft zone and lets other teams get easy 1st downs because he’s more concerned with losing than winning.

  55. SB~LV 🏈 Says:

    Rod…
    😂😂😂😂😂😂
Bowels chain has been shortened to one link!
Fans are going to eat him alive and anyone who gets in their way.
Should be entering Liam Coen’s 2nd full season
Jason Fred looking Flintstone GM is going down with Todd too !

  56. Rod Munch Says:

SB~LV – I wanted Coen last offseason and for Bowles to get the boot, people misunderstand saying Bowles should have been fired THIS offseason as some sort of endorsement. The issue with firing Bowles THIS offseason is Baker – he’s coming off a terrible year, and has one year left. If Baker bounces back, and the Bucs still want to change coaches next offseason, they’ll have their pick of whoever they want. But THIS offseason, no one with options would want to come here and be stuck with a QB who singlehandedly cost the Bucs the playoffs and got everyone fired. What coaches with options want to come into that situation?

The team needs clarity about Baker, if he looks like 2024 Baker, then the Bucs have options, if he looks like 2023 or 2025 Baker, then the Bucs move on – clear house, and then you’re brining in someone for a rebuild.

  57. Rod Munch Says:

*saying Bowles should have been fired THIS offseason as some sort of endorsement.

    SHOULD NOT, I meant.

  58. Stpetematt Says:

I watched Seattle’s defense in the Super Bowl and they did a lot of the same things our defense does. We beat KC in the Super Bowl by almost never blitzing and running max coverages that confused the heck out of Mahomes. A defense looks way more active when it generates a pass rush even with 4.

    Good. Draft all offense

Don’t you have anymore coloring books to keep you busy?

  60. Lakeland Says:

I like what Kirby Smart and his staff do at Georgia
They recruit high school players that they feel fit their system
And they are mostly 4-5 star recruits, they develop them further
When they leave Georgia, they are already NFL ready
Because Georgia runs a pro style offense and defense
That’s why the Philadelphia Eagles love to draft Georgia players

We should more into the system the player played in college
And will be a good fit in our system

  61. Lakeland Says:

“””We should look more into the system the player played in college””

  62. HC Grover Says:

From the pic look how big his hands are.

  63. HC Grover Says:

Agent 99 a defensive pic will be a waste of time. Bowzo defense is what it is. Pourous no matter who you put in there.

  64. Geno712 Says:

Lakeland — you keep saying that Boston has a 77% catch radius.

You have repeated it multiple times.

I know of two different things:

    1. A catch radius — like Mike Evans — about the same as someone who is 6’10 inches. Boston whose catch radius is about equal to someone his size — about the same as someone that is 6′ 4″ to 6′ 5″.

    and

    2. A contested catch rate. That usually means 50/50 balls and then a 77% ration would mean that Boston caught 77% of contested catches last season.

Really, both Stowers and Boston should be better than Kenyon Sadiq. One is 23 months older and the other is 21 months older. If Kenyon Sadiq stayed another 2 years — you would see an elite college guy — no doubt about it in my mind.

But again, the article is on Mike Evans replacement and I see none of those three guys being a Mike Evans replacement.

  65. Geno712 Says:

Sadiq’s ability to win 50/50 balls (he caught 10 of 13 contested targets in 2025).
10/13 is 77% contested catch rate.

  66. Lakeland Says:

    Geno,

The Bucs need a Move TE to play opposite Otton
They may make Culp their Nice TE

  67. Lakeland Says:

    Ok Geno

Denzel Boston has a 77% contested catch rate
    A 64.7 % overall catch rate
    A 3.1 % drop rate

  68. Lakeland Says:

“”They may make Culp their Move TE

  69. Badbucs Says:

    J. Campbell from Clemson in round 5. Tall, fast wr. McClellan DL round 4.

  70. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

    We have:

    🏈 Jalen McMillan, 6′ 1″
    🏈 Tez Johnson, 5′ 10″
    🏈 Kameron Johnson, 5′ 10″
    🏈 Chris Godwin Jr., 6′ 1″
    🏈 Emeka Egbuka, 6′ 1″

There are some promising young guys in there. We also have a couple on furures contracts, and more to come. The last thing we need is to draft a WR. Our you guys got experience last year. They’ll be better this year.

  71. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

    Excuse the typos

  72. SB~LV 🏈 Says:

    Don’t forget WR converted QB
Garrett Green from last camp and Practice Squad

  73. Stpetematt Says:

    Maybe he’s nice too.

Kenton I’m looking at Sadiq’s speed and 43.5 inch vertical which means he’s incredibly explosive. He could run fades for us and go up and get balls all over the end zone. That won’t replace Evans but could do some of the things he did for our offense. That, and with his raw athleticism he should have no trouble getting open. He also doesn’t seem to have any trouble catching the ball. And he wins contested catches at a very high rate. He should be able to breeze right by linebackers and safeties so if he lives up to his potential he would be a helluva mismatch for opposing defenses. Yes, potential makes me nervous. We already have Zyon McCollum who has near limitless potential but has yet to come close to meeting it. He still could, however! In the NFL athletic ability wins more often than not…

  74. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

    Lakeland Says:
“The Bucs need a Move TE to play opposite Otton
They may make Culp their Nice TE”

The Bucs have 4 okay TEs on the roster:

    Culp, Durham, Kieft, and Otton.

We can wait a year on TE…maybe sign a couple guys on futures after the draft this year, see if anything shakes out.

  75. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

We really need Edge, Safety, Linebacker, Defensive Tackle and Guard this year.

  76. Stpetematt Says:

He’d be THAT big yet top speed faster than any of our wide receivers. That’s pretty sick when you think about it.

  77. Gipper Says:

Write this down and remember where you heard it. Jeremyah Love and Kenyon Sadiq are the two best offensive players available in this draft. If either is available at 15, they have to be taken. We have a defensive genius as a head coach/DC. He can develop all defensive players taken in rounds 2-6. There will be plenty of good LB’s and DT’s.

  78. adam from ny Says:

everyone thought christian watson in green bay was the next mike evans when he entered the league a few years back…but he hasn’t blossomed into anything close to that…

yet if he hits the free agent market soon, i’d take a double look see at him – as they tend to spread the ball around big time in recent years in green bay – so most guys were lacking in monster stats…

otherwise, i’m not on the sadiq bandwagon for sure…if you can swing him at 15…do it…

if not trade down for an extra 2nd, and grab rodriguez with the
later first and stack more front 7 guys with the two #2’s and the #3…

    joe……you know i know… 🙂

  79. adam from ny Says:

culp is obviously doing something very wrong because he can not really get on the field…

    so that says a lot…a whole lot…

even though we are all like “use culp, use culp”

if we do draft sadiq, culp is the one who will most likely be gone…i’d say he’s odd man out at that juncture

  80. sethery Says:

he plays with a physicality like evans!

but I agree. would love to see 6 of 7 be defensive picks. we’ve drafted 3 wide receivers in the last 2 years. lets let them develop. if we go offense I wouldn’t mind TE or o-line depth in the 3rd-4th round because it’s a good draft class for that.

  81. Proudbucfan Says:

For one thing, McMillan is gonna always be hurt, for another thing no one will ever replace Mike Evans, but I agree that we do need a big tall lengthy receiver that can get downfield

  82. Lakeland Says:

The Eagles signed JTS to a one year contract
I hope he make it through training camp

  83. Simeon4HOF Says:

    Eagles signed JTS lol

  84. Warren Brooks Lynch Says:

Great player, but give me Jeff Caldwell a little later. 6’5 +200lbs and 4.3 speed. That’s the high RAS score we need to target, our new WR-X

everyone thought christian watson in green bay was the next mike evans

    ———–

    Who thought that?

Evans was 6′ 5″ 231 pounds, ran a 4.53, was considered an all-around big NFL in the mold of Vincent Jackson.

Watson was 6′ 4″ 208 pounds, ran a 4.35, was considered a one trick pony deep ball WR with limited agility, maybe could develop into more – but that was his profile.

Just because someone is tall doesn’t mean they play big.

Currently, if Evans came out today at that size, I bet half the teams in the NFL would want him to gain like 10 pounds and become a TE (more about how small TE’s have gotten).

The reason Evans went so high wasn’t because his speed, it was because he was a huge WR and he did everything well. Evans ended up being a big play WR, including lead the NFL in yards per reception in 2018, but it was because he caught everything regardless of coverage, or threw off defenders, not because he was outrunning guys (although he always has had more speed than people think).

  86. Kenton Smith Says:

Gipper, even if I’m wrong about Sadiq, and he may be a star, but we don’t need another receiver. That’s probably one reason why we lost Evans. Mike is likely to have a few more big years left in him if he’s in the right spot. But we’ve got more playmakers than you can shake a stick at. Even if you couldn’t tell last year. JMac came back in week 14! Godwin wasn’t full Godwin till the last few weeks but he’s full Godwin now. And he’s the kind of player that could lead the league in third down receptions, maybe total receptions. Egbuka is about to be a star is born. And Tez is a playmaker who is going to have a role in things. Not to mention our new pass catching running back from Pittsburgh and that Otten is easily gonna catch 60 balls this year. Mike knew why he was leaving and I can’t blame him. He’s a great player and he wants to make more plays. Hope he doesn’t make them against us. But any great young player would not get enough touches in Tampa right now. Unless we were injured like last year and that probably isn’t going to happen again.

  87. BigZ Says:

Duce Robinson is the closest to Mike. Gotta wait until next year.
