Mike Evans Treated Emeka Egbuka Like A Little Brother
February 7th, 2026Early last season, Bucs rookie wide receiver Emeka Egbuka spoke about how much Chris Godwin helped him out in his adjustment to the NFL.
Joe initially thought Godwin may have been Egbuka’s big brother of sorts. But that assumption might have been off.
Yesterday, Egbuka appeared with Joe’s good friend, popular national sports TV and radio personality Adam Schein on “Schein on Sports,” heard exclusively on SiriusXM Mad Dog Radio. Schein was on radio row at the Moscone Center in San Francisco and Egbuka was prowling the premises.
Egbuka explained to Schein how much Evans helped him grow as a rookie.
“I learned everything,” Egbuka said. “He just, he genuinely took me in under his wing and just taught me a lot about the NFL as an organization, football, on the field, off the field, the process taking care of my body, money.
“Like he was just an ear to listen to all the issues I was going through and all the problems that I have faced my rookie year.
“And he just gave me, just worlds of advice and everything. He’s amazing.”
Remember how Evans’ teammates reacted in the final game of 2024 when Evans kept his 1,000-yard receiving streak alive with a catch in the final seconds of the regular season against the slimy Saints? Joe swears most of Evans’ teammates were happier than he was.
But that demonstrated how much respect Evans’ teammates had for the best offensive player in Bucs history not named “Tom Brady.”
And while Egbuka was not part of that scene, it seems he quickly gained the same respect for Evans.

We need to draft another WR and bring in a FA
Evans old and worn out
Godwin busted up legs and end of the road
JMac unknown if his neck is going to be a problem
Tez is a small average speed gadget player who will not be sneaking open like he did last year
Shepherd is Shepherd
Sign FA Pitts and bring in WRâs
Oh !
We need a starter at RB !

Somebody said it the other day. I cannot tell you how many times I have thought it.
VJax (RIP) mentored ME and now ME is giving it back to EE. So awesome.
We are blessed to have such classy, caring, priceless players on our Bucs team.
And it blows me away how some of you (even some I typically agree with on their takes) don’t want to resign ME. And if you think ME does not have an impact on the field to make the money worth while, you have a short ssa memory. EE made so many catches bc the other teams D had to double ME. I love CG, but I do not think he has the same impact as Mike

Awww, how cute.
February 7th, 2026 at 8:22 am
Unless we switch to a run and shoot offense no way we can utilize 4 prominent WRs, so keep Mike is overkill and considering most large WRs fall off a cliff after 30, Mikes yearly hamstring issues, itâs not the end of the world if Mike moves on, love Mike, we all do but heâs past his prime and committing $25+ to a player on decline is just bad business
February 7th, 2026 at 8:36 am
Nope, Mike still does things other guys just can’t do. The hamstring problem is a lingering issue for sure and he always misses some time. That isn’t ideal but our wide receiver room can absorb it. The second injury was an on field assault. When Mike came back from the collar bone he looked good.
February 7th, 2026 at 8:53 am
SB~LV, thatâs an ignorant comment about being old and worn out. All you need to do is look at the first game back after the collarbone and see how much attention he got and what he did with the passes he caught.
I think some of you either forgot the Raheem Morris first year or werenât around for that. But he got rid of key veterans including Derrick Brooks. A lot of people say Derrick Brooks was past his prime, but Derrick Brooks on your team is a coach and a player, and he was damn sure better than the crap they put on the field that year.
You donât force a Hall of Fame player to leave your roster. You keep that person as long as you can, and you pay him fair market value.
Iâm surprised I even need to say this to people.
February 7th, 2026 at 9:04 am
He gave him wedgies and stuffed him in his locker?
February 7th, 2026 at 9:19 am
I mean this kind of track for Mike no? Eldest sibling, tenured dad, NFL vet and all around good guy, unless youâre last name is Lattimore lol
@Harry
That was me, and I kind of messed that up.
Mike had VJax, Chris had Mike & DJax, Egbuka has Mike & Chris.
Included Jackson, because there was good & bad with him in his time here and Godwin seems smart enough to have learned from both.

MHK.. one game
I love ME but this team is a RCH short of REBUILDING!
I stand by everything that I posted.
Football is a tough game
GMâs need to make TOUGH DECISIONS
The game has gotten soft and JL is still clinging to
âKeeping the band together â
âBringing in Buccaneer players â
Too much looking in the rear view mirror!
Watch tomorrow at EVERY POSITION
and then think to yourself
Do we have that player on our roster?
Bwahahaha⌠we are only a few weeks from finishing as a.500 team
Bwahahahahaa
Clueless!

SB-LB? I think the Chinese and Russian trolls have invaded Joe Bucs Fan. Receiver is not even in the top five of Buc needs: Starting linebacker x 2, a real edge rusher, depth on the O-Line, defensive back, tight end. . .
February 7th, 2026 at 9:57 am
Itâs great that it helped his performance improve so much, especially over those last 9 games after the bye.
February 7th, 2026 at 10:16 am
If they kept Bowles, they will certainly keep Mike. Itâs just a matter of whether or not he wants to play here again on a 3rd an 28 giving up defense.
February 7th, 2026 at 10:30 am
In big bro fashion, I hope ME kicked him in the @ss for his late season dropsies
February 7th, 2026 at 10:38 am
Willie , đ
Our WRâs are AVERAGE
The NFL is a PASSING league these days
Our WRâs are just average move the chains ham and eggers
You will see if the Bucs sink big money into #13
17 games just to get to the real season.
February 7th, 2026 at 10:42 am
“Remember how Evansâ teammates reacted in the final game of 2024 when Evans kept his 1,000-yard receiving streak alive with a catch in the final seconds of the regular season against the slimy Saints? Joe swears most of Evansâ teammates were happier than he was.”
I think they should have done the same for EE this year. He was so close.
February 7th, 2026 at 10:43 am
SB~LV đ Says:
“Our WRâs are AVERAGE”
I 100% disagree with that claim.
I mean, sure, with the injuries, that might be the case, but when healthy we have one of the best units in the league.
And the experience the young guys got will go a long way in their development.
February 7th, 2026 at 10:45 am
I will say that Mike Evans only has 1, maybe two more, years in him. At most.
I still think he can hit 1,000 yards in a season…provided that hamstring does not act up too often.
February 7th, 2026 at 10:46 am
Draft Edge, OG, LB, Edge. In that order. Rounds 5-7 BPA.
February 7th, 2026 at 10:47 am
Would be nice to draft a decent backup QB…but free agency can fill that roll, so long as it isn’t Teddy Bridgewater.
February 7th, 2026 at 10:47 am
Add another LB in free agency. They are out there.
February 7th, 2026 at 10:51 am
Dude there is no way our WRs are average.
In fact from 1-5 they may be the best in the league.
ME still has 2-3 years left with his catch radius.
O Line and a healthy BM and this team can score 30+ as is.
Get a LG and starting RB and look out.
This team literally needs any other position besides WR.
February 7th, 2026 at 10:57 am
Ken, Brooks was the only veteran we let go of that did not continue to play and play well. Lynch had a great run in Denver. Sapp was decent in Oakland. They were all timers, like Mike.
February 7th, 2026 at 11:20 am
Definitely re-sign Mike for 2 more.
Then we can focus on building a great defense over the next 2 years.
J-Mac, Egbuka, and Tez are signed for 3 more years.
We need 2 young and fast MLBs who can cover and tackle.
The Middle of the field has been a problem for 3 years!
Devin White sucked, then Britt, then SVD.
We need to fix the middle of the defense!
