Lavonte David: Collapse Was “Embarrassing,” Bucs “Sh*t The Bed”
February 14th, 2026
Maybe Lavonte David does have a future in media, like he told Kay Adams he is considering.
David was candid and engaging talking about the Buccaneers’ meltdown from a 6-2 start to an 8-9 finish last season during his post-Super Bowl sitdown with the Caps Off podcast.
David was asked about losing the NFC South tiebreaker after losing seven of nine games to close the season.
“To be honest with you, I think it’s embarrassing,” David said. “You know what I’m saying? We had ample amount of opportunities to be able to clinch our division. We lost to the Dolphins. We lost to the Saints. We lost to Carolina at their home. If we would have won one of those games, we would have made the playoffs, which is crazy and insane to think about. Like after all that, losing all those games, we still had an opportunity to make the playoffs.
“We controlled our own destiny and we kind of like shit the bed.”
What more is there to add?

Bowles you’re a great man, and I’m sure an amazing father.. but you’re a sad of an excuse as head coach, that’s what sh*t the bed. A player literally told him he’s “ bored “ out there. And he didn’t bench him.. Don’t think you’ll find a quote stating McCollum said he’s bored. That was Bowles’ description.–Joe
no one respect Bowles. Defense is out dated, and horrible.

Bowles knows the Solution to get more wins- They got to coach it better and the players got to play it better. Problem solved.

I hope David has a future in media, and not with the Bucs.

I think last offseason the Glazers, Licht and Bowles all sat down and built the plan for how’d they’d win in 2025. They all agreed the D was bad but with a D minded coach, they figured he could scheme enough to allow the offense to out score teams. They thought they’d have the best offense in the league and score more than 30 a game with the D holding everyone to under 30. With everyone agreeing, all the injuries and a new coordinator on offense that when it failed that group knew all of them made a bad decision. Thats the only way I can see keeping Bowles after that mess. It was everyone’s decision and not just on Bowles.

3rd and 28.
4th and 14.
Our “defensive guru” head coach said to “look in the mirror”…
I agree – the Bucs are an embarrassment.

Bowles didn’t think enough before he phrased that about Zyon. “Bored”, wasn’t the correct term. “Lost focus” would probably be more accurate

“We controlled our own destiny and we kind of like sh@t the bed.”
Correct. Retire please. You have nothing left in the tank.
Bowles has wrecked this team in ways it will take years to overcome.

What is more to add is you did nothing to stop it.

I love Lavonte but I don’t think he is articulate enough or a clear enough speaker to be getting a job in media.

Remember, Todd said the coaches had done everything they could do. Only a bonafide genius says something like that. Lucky to have kept Todd, and have even added another one. Brilliant .

Lol – I know you’re being a smart azz but that really is the solution.
If Todd gave you more specifics would most of the “fans” even know what he was talking about ?

Fire Todd

I’m getting sick and tired of seeing any time we play quality coaches & teams , we look out matched and like a JV team . Poor tackling & a lack of knowing where to be & when to be there is just mind boggling . I think it’s a mixture of talent & heart as well as these coaches shottin the bed . Over & over again . OK, we have to deal with it another year & if these guys can’t put a team to be proud of on the field then the owners need to grow a pair ! Flat out

Because the Glazers couldn’t do the hard thing and cut ties with Bowles they’ve committed to another losing season. No excitement. No enthusiasm for 2026.
Just more of the same. They’ll finally cut ties around mid-season with a 2-6 record. Oh well. Meanwhile, Coach Harbaugh will be turning the Giants back into Goliaths.

There are actually two things to add and Marine Buc has added them.
