Maybe A New Offensive Coordinator By Monday Night?

January 22nd, 2026

Search for new OC continues.

Let Joe be clear: No one has tipped off Joe that an offensive coordinator hire is imminent. Or that it may happen in the next four days.

Joe just has a hunch the Bucs are closing in on their man. Various reports had former Dixie Chicks offensive coordinator Zac Robinson at One Buc Palace for a second interview yesterday.

Additionally, former Titans head coach Brian Callahan is expected to be at One Buc Palace today for his second interview.

Yes, Joe knows that Bengals offensive coordinator Dan Pitcher did a Zoom interview earlier this week.

Those are the known guys the Bucs are interested in. It appears that former Crows coach Todd Monken, who the Bucs also interviewed, is headed to New York to rejoin John Harbaugh, the new coach of the Giants, if Monken is not hired as the new head coach of the Browns.

All of these agent name-dropping do not include (so far) any college coaches the Bucs may be interested in. The Bucs’ media relations staff has pumped out social media posts updating fans on who has been interviewed and so far, no college coaches have surfaced — that doesn’t mean the Bucs haven’t spoken to college playcallers.

Don’t be alarmed: Liam Coen had never called plays in the NFL before he came to the Bucs but did call plays at Kentucky. He did just fine when he rejoined the NFL as the Bucs’ shot-caller on offense in 2024.

So that is where we stand. Given how the Bucs brought back two guys to interview at One Buc Palace, that tells Joe the Bucs could make a decision over the weekend and announce a new offensive coordinator on Monday.

This doesn’t mean they will, but Joe would not be shocked if that transpired.

As for not getting Mike McDaniel, Joe thinks it is clear why the Bucs struck out with McDaniel as the former Dolphins big-shot decided to be an offensive coordinator in Los Angeles working for Jim Harbaugh.

When McDaniel interviewed with the Bucs, it likely went like this:

Mike McDaniel: Who will coach the Bucs in 2027 if the Bucs have a rough season in 2026?

Bucs: (Crickets.)

McDaniel: Who will be the Bucs’ quarterback in 2027 if Baker Mayfield has another bad second-half of the season?

Bucs: (Crickets.)

McDaniel: Pardon me one moment gentlemen, I have to take a call from Jim Harbaugh. … Hey Jim, thanks for calling. Hey, I’ve got two quick questions: Who is going to coach the Chargers in 2027?

Jim Harbaugh: Me, you two-bit comedian, who do you think?

McDaniel: OK, relax. Then, who will your quarterback be in 2027?

Harbaugh: What are you talking about? Same guy as this year, Justin Herbert. I’m not about to trade for Tua. What is going on over there? Is Jason Licht still peeved at me for pounding Nebraska?

McDaniel: All right, all right, all right. You can call Licht later. He’s got no problem with J.J. McCarthy, chill. I’ll see you in a few hours. … Gentlemen, thanks so much for the Cuban sandwiches. I’ve got to catch a flight to Los Angeles. We’ll keep in touch. I’m sorry about December, Todd. I tried to help out and play Quinn Ewers. Have a good day, guys.

“ I’m sorry about December, Todd. I tried to help out and play Quinn Ewers.” Hilarious 🤣🤣🤣🤣 Great stuff.

  2. HC Grover Says:

Is The Bowzo Curse turning the Bucs in to the laughingstock of the NFL?

  3. Eric Says:

No one wants this job lol we are going to hit the reset button on the HC,QB, and possibly GM in 2027.

  4. heyjude Says:

I hate to say this, but if their choice is one of these guys, we should have just kept Grizz for another season. Nate Scheelhaase is probably going to the Steelers as head coach, but he would have been a good OC hire. Joe Brady another good choice. Maybe bring in a DC too. Possibly McDermott. There are so many more, thinking outside the box. The Bucs have the roster and deserve coaches that know it, experience, and know how to use them on the field.

  5. adam from ny Says:

if they hire the titans guy, it’s a clear tank the season vibe for a quarterback

  6. JA Says:

McDaniel: Exactly why did you choose to retain Todd Bowles after his dismal finish?
    Bucs: Crickets
McDaniel: I hear that Baker Mayfield played injured, and it was enough to alter his ability to perform his best. All I hear through the rumor mill is, “Clearly, Baker was injured. Now that the season is over and there’s nothing to hide from upcoming opponents, can you tell me exactly what those injuries were and how they affected his late season play?
    Bucs: Crickets
McDaniel: Many teams bring in a player or two at the trade deadline to help down the home stretch. Can you tell me why your team did nothing when it became clear you needed help?
    Bucs: Crickets

  7. Fred McNeil Says:

Once you get the fact that we are retaining a HC whom the whole team quit on last year and we are going to keep the same idiot calling the defense there’s really no reason to get our hopes up for anything other than a super high draft pick.

  8. adam from ny Says:

    good job JA…………..haha

  9. heyjude Says:

Loved Joe’s dialogue. And agree with JA too. It could all be another Annie skit, lol!

  10. Lessismore Says:

    Joe and JA nailed it.

  11. Crazyhorse54 Says:

When will the announcement of the hiring of a new DC happen. ?

  12. Bee Says:

No one wants to risk their career with this HC and roster. League is saying with their actions that the leadership on this team isn’t good. Not shocking at all.

The OC really doesn’t matter much when the HC wants you to run often and the QB is inconsistent. Thats like running a restaurant and firing the cook because the meals are bad meanwhile the owners stock the fridge with expired food and low quality ingredients.

This season is shaping up to look like Rah’s last season. Oh well, better days are coming. New HC, QB and maybe GM in 2027!

  13. Crazyhorse54 Says:

Another dumb question, Are the owners so out of touch they don’t realize how weak the defense was? And, further, over the years TB has been HC there has been no improvement. Do they not see that? In addition, how do they feel that JL gave that incompetent a contract extension? Just thoughts that defy explanation

  14. Darengibo Says:

Hahahaha that last line! Too funny!

  15. Bucinator Says:

Could this year’s Todd Bowles Buccaneers team compete with the talent we see on the field right now?
    ” Crickets”

  16. Greg-therealone Says:

The Glazers are busy with Manchester United right now. They just had to axe the head coach and they are eating about 10 million of his salary and they still have to hire a guy. They have an interim coach/manager. Thats a pretty big ask for them to eat Bowles extension on top of that. I would be willing to bet Licht is on thin thin ice as well.

  17. It’s Exciting!!!! Says:

The only hope is hiring an OC which has good intel on DCs hopefully available next year when he becomes the HC.

  18. BucFan4Life Says:

McDaniel: if we go 8-9 with a lot of inconsistent play, but win the last game of the season and the division, will you guarantee that I have earned another season?
Bucs: We will let you announce that.

  19. PSL Bob Says:

Joe, that faux conversation with McDaniel is brilliant. Made me laugh out loud. Well done sir!

  20. Chuck Says:

    I second It’s Exciting!!!’s idea.

  21. DailyRich Says:

Looks like we’re finalizing a deal with Robinson.
