  1. Baker Bowl Says:

I’m not sure. If he hid his injury and that was the cause of his back half of the season, then is that someone Licht wants to keep? If he wasn’t hurt, he hardly played to the standard of his current contract. It would be smart to at least wait and see how the start of the season goes if he doesn’t hold out which I can’t see him doing.

I know I want to keep him around (I like the idea of taking a QB in the draft either this year or next though), but for what price? I guess you can take a shot we get the good Baker, he definitely took a step back in terms of the ‘Franchise QB’ label though.

  2. DoooshLaRue Says:

They extended Bowles and he sucks.
Baker is capable of being very good.
    No brainer.

  3. 3rdmatic Says:

I hope not! Baker is too inconsistent to be franchise level qb

  4. Baking with the next one Says:

The new OC will answer that on the interview. He might be the new HC next year.

  5. BucVoyager Says:

If you don’t have a QB, you have no shot.

  6. Dom Says:

Nope. Has an average season with Canales (it’s why he was paid average QB money don’t deny it), had a very good season with Coen, and disappeared for half the season with Grizzard. He needs to prove he wasn’t just a product of Liam Coen as his career would so far indicate. Signing a QB to a big contract who ends up proving they aren’t worth it are mistakes that hold franchises back for years

  7. Bucnjim Says:

If you can’t stop the other team from scoring, it doesn’t matter who the QB is. Just ask Tom Brady in his final year. Peyton Manning couldn’t win the big game until Dungy fixed the Colts defense. The greatest show on turf won because their defense was number 3 that year. The Patriots were top 10 just about every year they went to the Super Bowl usually top 5

  8. SteveK Says:

Yes, get a team friendly one.

  9. Knothead71 Says:

I voted Not Sure. I think it all depends on how the season plays out.
If has another year like last year, which is very possible, I think the Glazers blow it all up and start over.
If Baker has a year like 2023 or 2024, which is also very possible, I think they extend him and probably draft a QB for the future.
Everything depends on performance in the NFL.

  10. Bucnjim Says:

Was there a team in the playoffs this year who was ranked below 20th in scoring defense? The Bucs were 28th along with the Raiders, Giants & Bengals.

Mayfield is not the problem. Stopping opponents from scoring is!

  11. Bee Says:

Nope. But if they do this team will be mired in mediocrity as long as he’s the starter. We’ll see what happens.

  12. Plyflop Says:

Big reason for us hiring Zac Robinson

  13. Kenton Smith Says:

Nonsense, of course they’re gonna resign Mayfield. You’re nuts if you think different. In my years of following this team they have been fair. That’s all it’s gonna take.

  14. Fishhawkbuc Says:

Geez Joe. Where is your breaking news on Zac Robinson hire???

  15. FortMyersDave Says:

I do not question Baker’s heart and competitive streak but his durability. He needs to avoid getting busted up in 2026. If he does via a solid OL, let’s see where the team is and how it got there. Baker of 2024 and pre bye 2025 will get a deal. A hurt Baker will not.

  16. Pewter Power Says:

This is a status qui quo organization they won’t even replace fringe backups at the bottom of the roster of course they’ll resign him

  17. Danny Mac Says:

Zac Robinson will be our guy. Go Bucs!!!

  18. heyjude Says:

Baker stays, unsure about the money. We still need a capable backup QB for him. Maybe a new rookie out of the draft. There will be good ones sprinkled throughout.

  19. Patrick Says:

Looks like Zac Robinson is going to be the OC, per Schefter.

Not a terrible choice, but not the most exciting choice either.

  20. D-Rome Says:

I don’t think they’ll extend Baker over the summer. The reason being is if Bowles and the team has another lackluster year, the next head coach may not be sold on Baker. Then you’re going to have a situation where a head coach is stuck with a QB he’s not sold on.

  21. Obvious Says:

The odds of him holding out are slim IMO. If that holds, there’s no reason to extend him yet.

He needs to improve before any additional money is extended to him. Especially with the ‘27 class.

  22. SB~LV 🏈 Says:

    Y
and begin drafting QB’s that have potential to start someday

  23. Mhystc Says:

I think baker Bowles and Licht are all tied together.

  24. Hugh Glazerhouse Says:

Flash poll: Do the Glazers know how hated they are in Tampa?

  25. Warren Brooks Lynch Says:

    $30M rosters bonus
    $10m base salary

Nope, let him earn the extension because:

“Signing a QB to a big contract who ends up proving they aren’t worth it are mistakes that hold franchises back for years“

Great point Dom, nobody got time for that

  26. Show Me the TDs Says:

Why not? He would be a decent QB2.

  27. MadMax Says:

Yep, but please draft a great one to wait in the wings and be a real backup…teddy is not it.

  28. StonedBucsfan Says:

No, he looked like ass this year.

  29. Chipbuc Says:

Seriously do any of you think that we can just snap our fingers and find a better Qb than Baker next year. At least you know that Baker has the talent to throw 41 tds in a season. Win playoff games.Give him a competent coach who knows how to call plays and develop players around him. Give him a line up the middle that isn’t a swinging door. He isn’t the best Qb in the league, but he’s far from the worst.
