Bucs Offensive Coaching News

January 26th, 2026

Sticking around.

This is good news in Joe’s eyes.

Last year when Liam Coen left the Bucs to go to Jacksonville, the Bucs gave then-offensive line coach Kevin Carberry a new title of run game coordinator along with a new contract and a few more shekels for the inconvenience.

The new title basically meant Carberry couldn’t be plucked while under contract unless hired as an offensive coordinator (sort of like when Chucky had Bill Muir as an “offensive coordinator” but he was nothing more than an offensive line coach).

Carberry, Joe thought, did one helluva job in 2024 when he came to the Bucs along with Coen. Last year with all the injuries, Carberry was in a no-win situation.

So, per Jenna Laine of ESPN, Carberry is staying put. Of course, Carberry and new Bucs offensive coordinator Zac Robinson worked together in Los Angeles before Carberry left for the Bucs and Robinson left for Atlanta.

Coen, however, did grab a Bucs offensive line coach. Offensive line coach Brian Picucci will move across the state where he will be the Jags’ run game coordinator.

As horrible a coach as he is, its hard to believe that Bowles has a decent coaching tree of Liam and Canalas

  2. heyjude Says:

Glad that Carberry is staying and that he and Zac have some history. Interesting that Picucci is leaving though.

ATLBuc – Respectfully, there are worse coaches than Todd. And you are right, he does know how to hire. Unsure who all were involved in moving Grizz up to OC; but that was not a good move.

  3. FortMyersDave Says:

Picucci worked with Coen at Kentucky before he came along with Liam in 2024. He was also one of Coen’s coaches when Coen was at UMass in the 2000s so it makes sense that he would want to go coach for his ex-student. Dude is older than I thought, went to Syracuse in the early ’90s and played FB/TE.

That is laughable. I don’t think Bowles gets to claim that he grew that fruit. Two offensive coordinators that spent one season with a defensive head coach?

  5. Todd Says:

It’s more like the Baker Mayfield coaching tree, in truth.

  6. ATLBuc Says:

Hey Jude! Name two coaches who are worse than Bowles. 🤣🤣🤣

  7. heyjude Says:

ATLBucs – Just saying – Pete Carroll, Stefanski, Raheem, and some others haven’t had great seasons in the past. Oh, and Payton didn’t do such a great job last night. Let’s see what happens this season since so many got let go this season. And Buffalo fans are not fully blaming their coach, when he got fired. It’s not always just the HC fault either 😊😊

  8. Aqualung Says:

He regressed. The OL was worse than the collective matadors who manned it. Nevermind.

When are we going to hear some defensive coaching news? Oh. Nevermind.

  9. Fanofdabucs Says:

I think he asked you to name two HCs worse than Bowles..then you mentioned a couple coaches with Superbowl rings, one who was 2 x coach of the year and are you blaming Payton for losing in the AFC championship game by 3 points with his backup QB??

    Wow just wow

  10. heyjude Says:

Fanofdabucs – Todd is our coach. Wow just wow, and it’s called supporting the Bucs as a fan, good and bad. Todd isn’t perfect, and other coaches are not either. But he has had the locker room and players. Not much noise on that front. I also commented to see what happens this season. Giving him a chance to improve. Go Bucs!

    I lol’d

  12. Miller5252 Says:

Bowles is coaching tree…. That one really did make me lol!! I remember on the podcast here recently when Joe said he talked to Coen and he said he was surprised how much Bowles wasn’t involved in the offense. That’s why I think between Coen and the new O coordinator Bowles won’t ask for help and keep doing what he thinks is best on D. He’s not changing what he’s done his whole coaching career.

  13. Zoocomics Says:

I can’t wait for the full-season of Bowles bashing on here. It’s almost like this website and it’s ability to leave comments is simply gaslighting the group that can’t seem to move on.

Somehow, everyone on here thinks that if we would’ve dumped Bowles that we would have been at the top of the list for Harbaugh, McDermott, Tomlin and/or any of the final four teams’ coordinators that may or may not be leaving for Head Coaching jobs. There is a lot vacancies this year, and you be surprised how undesirable this franchise is. Couldn’t tell you why, we’ve just never landed the big fish.

Don’t worry, a modest season most likely won’t save Bowles. Next season could be great as far as competition to get the hot coaching candidate. Try to let this season set in, and simply be a fan.

  14. Razorramone Says:

Arians was a pretty big 🐟.

  15. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Stop with the Bowles Bitching….its boring and irrelevant…the decision has been made….hes HC like it or not.
    Root for success….or STFU

  16. ModHairKen Says:

These silly titles. “Run Game Coordinator,” “Pass Game Coordinator.” It’s kind of ridiculous.

The guy coaches the line. The OC coordinates and calls the plays.

And there is nothing to get excited about.

The problem is the Defense, the HC and the GM.

  17. ocala Says:

The reason Bucs fans can’t move on from the Bucs keeping Bowles is because Bowles is still the head coach. Bucs have arguably the worst head coach in the NFL and it is something most fans are p.o. about.

  18. Ballwasher61 Says:

Looks like Coen may be getting a dose of his own medicine/reality as a head coach cause his OC is being looked at as HC material for the Ravens after 1 year. Sheet happens.

  19. BucfaninMi Says:

Gruden, Dungy and Bruce were pretty big fish

  20. George R Says:

His coaching tree should be defensive coaches. He is hands off on the offense. How many of his defensive coaches has gotten promoted?

  21. Baking with Robinson Says:

    In Licht I trust.

Todd all I have to say is:

    2026 is RINSE AND REPEAT
I hope we judge Todd at the end of this season by the performance of the defense and his decision making on games only. If any of those fail he should be fired.

At least we should be scoring points like in 2024.

  22. Ash Says:

Yup goes along with the season of rah rah fans that can’t fathom a fan that sees the game differently and comment for them to leave be the fan you want to be.

  23. Ben Says:

The offense will once again be the strength of the team in 2026 while Bowles continues to say the phrase “we gotta coach it better, we gotta play it better” to explain his busted coverages on defense at weekly pressers.

  24. adam from ny Says:

    jude:

come on…yeah rah and stefansky…i agree on those regarding bowles…

but sean payton…let’s be real now, he’s one of the top coaches in the nfl…without doubt…

and pete carroll was fired, but he’s been a darn good HC over the years, and has the sick resume…

but yeah jude…rah and stefansky…you nailed it with those 2 for sure…

and arthur blank just replaced one, and popped in the other…wild scene over there in atlanta…

in all honesty, i think you could have replaced rah with zac robinson – and totally not even hired stefansky…like i’d really have just gone with robinson…that stefansky guy is no better than freddie kitchens…he’s a flunkee at football 101 for dummies

  25. adam from ny Says:

    ^^^

also see the accompanying pic to this here thread…

see that look on carberry’s face…

    you know what that is…?

that’s the obtuse look of a head coach…

head coaches make facial expressions and gestures that look spectral…

i like what i see…and he’s been getting rave reviews from the moment he arrived in tampa…

he’s one of the good ones

  26. JackBall Says:

Why are the Bucs upper management ignoring the defense?

  27. JackBall Says:

Why are the Bucs upper management ignoring the defense? Where is the defense. The Joes are apparently in their back pocket. If you speak about the
    Defense they cut you off!

  28. JackBall Says:

One thing they both have in common is they left after 1 season. Sorry head coach!

  29. Popmike66 Says:

Joe I thought you were talking about the OL coaches. I see the Bowles haters at it again. I agree Carberry did a hello of a job with the OL last season. Sure hope he stay a while

  30. Dale W Says:

Any successful coach that comes from the “Bowles Coaching Tree” should be looked at as being more impressive. Not because of his tutelage, but having survived their tenure.

  31. Kenton Smith Says:

adam from ny. Don’t know about obtuse look of a head coach describing Carberry photograph. But you can tell alot looking at a man’s hands. Cuts down trees. Probably. Bucks hay. Probably. Has had them stomped on. Probably. Tore a new a$$hole or two. Probably. I think I agree adam. He’s one of the good ones.

  32. heyjude Says:

adam from ny – Yea, I know that I threw Payton in. I haven’t forgotten Bounty-Gate. He just rubs me the wrong way no matter where he is. And he made a stupid decision last night.

So true on Zac too. They could have moved him up. It may be a huge loss for them, and a win for us.

  33. Stanglassman Says:

I tried to believe all these crybabies that are still whining about Bowles being the head coach were just children. I knew they weren’t but it made me fill slightly better about the state of our current society. So many People are self selecting their ‘news’ and are now just fed what they want to hear by social media algorithms that they can’t take in information that they don’t agree with anymore. This is the results. A bunch of man babies whining when they don’t get their way. They are unable to accept a reality they don’t agree with and move forward.
We all get it. You all are VERY disappointed Bowles got retained as HC. Please learn to accept it so we don’t all have to endure you all repeating this a million times over.
