Bruce Arians Endorses Sean McDermott

January 21st, 2026

This piqued Joe’s interest.

Buccaneers senior advisor to general manager Jason Licht is a post held by Super Bowl-winning coach Bucco Bruce Arians. Joe assumes Arians also has the ear of Team Glazer.

The Bucs don’t seem to mind Arians double-dipping as a media star this season on the The Pat McAfee Show, an ESPN property.

Yesterday, Arians was asked about the Bills firing head coach Sean McDermott after seven consecutive seasons of double-digit wins and an 8-8 record in the playoffs.

In typical Arians fashion, he came out swinging.

“This one baffles me,” Arians said. “How [Bills general manager] Brandon Beane got elevated [to president of football operations] and Sean McDermott got fired, that just blows my mind because they didn’t have any damn players.

“I mean the guy’s one of the best coaches in the league and a great leader of men. He’s taken that team as close as you can get, couldn’t beat Mahomes. [McDermott] didn’t throw any damn interceptions. And the referees screwed him bad and he gets fired. C’mon man. And Brandon Beane gets a fuc*’n raise? I don’t get that one. That one blows my mind.”

Joe wonders if Arians brought the same kind of fire in a December or January sales pitch to Team Glazer for retaining Todd Bowles.

Joe also wonders if Licht and Team Glazer share Arians’ view of McDermott, who interviewed for the Bucs head coaching gig in 2016.

has baker and bowles ever had double digit regular season wins?

and the glazer think these are the 2 that can make that happen?!…lol…

baker is trash and bowles is trash juice at the bottom of the can!!!!

    GO BUCS!!!!

  2. buccintimeforchanges Says:

Someone please take the golf cart keys away from Grandpa.

    SMDH

Arians shouldn’t have anyone’s ear. He screwed the team over and put his loser puppet in charge. Licht and the Gazers let him.

Licht is a beta loser trashcan GM. This franchise needs an enema.

  3. DavidsHogg Says:

Buc boi you slow or something? Last year?

  4. FootBall1 Says:

wow on the positive side!!. I agree with Arians on all of this actually. I would also love to see McDermott as our OC cordinator. I think he might be better than McDaniel. I don’t know that he wants an OC job, but if so hire that MAN.
Joe my only complaint with this site is sooooo much negitivity. It would be nice to see some positive stuff. I am not saying some of the negtivity is not deserved. However , like your Ira podcast, sure point out the negitive, however also from the fans point out the positive. It seems so many viewers are so negative. I get it but, you want bad go back to the lost decade and many years as Sapp the Bucs being laughing stocks. I think the ownership is trying to raise this franchize above the medicore line.

  5. buc4evr Says:

He’s not coming here. He will be a HC somewhere in the next week. We are stuck with terrible Todd in 2026 and whatever loser OC they can find. lol.

  6. BigBucJoe Says:

Still no official word from the Glazers on Bowles.

    Keep hope alive.

  7. Sheen Says:

FB1…McDermott is a DC not an OC

  8. pelbuc Says:

The Glazers and Licht couldn’t have handled retaining Bowles as HC any worse if they tried! They have doomed this franchise for years to come. Many qualified coaches avoiding the Bus like a plague bc of Bowles!

  9. Knothead71 Says:

Arians also endorsed Todd Bowles and Byron Leftwich.
We see how that is / has played out.

  10. Wayne Kerr Says:

    Positive take incoming

I did not have to stare at Todd Bowles, expressionless face with my gut and a knot screaming at my TV and angry with my family this past Sunday

    That’s positive right?

  11. Wayne Kerr Says:

I’m also POSITIVE that Bowle’s needs to go

  12. Tye Says:

I guess dreaming is free and applicable until the Bucs finally feel the OC position with a scrub whose desperate to be an OC anywhere!

  13. Football 1 Says:

Yes you are correct!!!, Thanks for the correction too bad. He is a good Coach!!

  14. Pewter Power Says:

Bruce Arians great coach, sucks as an advisor. If he was starting bullets over Bowles being fired then his allegiance is to Bowles not the franchise and I’m not sure why a General Manager has a head coach as an advisor when Bowles is the one who needs him badly

    REALLY?!?….

polk couty education i see lol

    GO BUCS!!!!

  16. Mhystc Says:

Done with BA endorsements. His endorsement this past couple weeks is why we’re stuck with Bowles.

  17. Idroolpewter&red Says:

If I were The Glazers, I would have already called McDermott or his agent and gauged his interest in coming to Tampa AS HEAD COACH. It’s not too late to fire Bowles. Move Todd to the front office instead of firing him, or at least offer that as an alternative to firing him.

  18. jimmy Says:

“McDermott ended his nine-year run in Buffalo with a 98-50 mark in the regular season and an 8-8 record in the playoffs.”

    gets fired.

average todd bowles is still the glazers choice for HC AND DC.

  19. MelvinJunior Says:

Interesting. I saw this on my dvr yesterday, & thought hmmmm… He sure didn’t care to throw Brandon Beane under the bus, but it’s an entirely different story when it comes to his good ole buddy J-LICKT. And, that Bills Offense has been pretty stacked in most of those seasons. There have only been just TWO problems… One, being too many turnovers by Josh Allen, and the other is a man named Pat Mahomes.

  20. MelvinJunior Says:

I meant Bills Roster* – Not the just the offense necessarily… Had offense on my mind.

  21. EEK Says:

    let’s go get him now
an upgrade at HC will be welcome here in Tampa

  22. Daryl Green Says:

Wait time out on the play we interviewed McDerm in 2016 and This Gm did the interviewing 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤙🏾👊🏾

  23. budlikedthebucarros Says:

hire someone walking down dale mabry with a ball cap and shorts that looks like he knows what hes doing

  24. MelvinJunior Says:

@ FootBall1 – Well, when you don’t see anything “positive” happening, then there is nothing POSITIVE to say! We had “positive” for ALL of last off-season, and what good did any of it do. It is now time for the TOUGH LOVE.

  25. David G Says:

    FIRE BOWLES NOW

  26. Aqualung Says:

    Hire him now.

Promote the 🤡 to Senior VP of Cheeseburgers.

  27. MelvinJunior Says:

Sheen Says: FB1…McDermott is a DC not an OC

That’s what I was going to say! Meant to add it to my comment.

  28. adam from ny Says:

sone freakin’ shmuck above ^^^ literally wants mcdermott, who has been a DC, and a defensive minded guy his entire career, to come in and be out OC…yes our OC……..like wtf dude…!!!

    i can’t with this sh!t…

please go follow another sport or something……yowzers!

  29. UGotRobbed Says:

Why isn’t he saying the same about Grizz? Half the offense was banged up most of the season, but still did ok…But Bowles defense was the worst! But he still has his job and Grizz was fired! Being a little hypocritical there, aren’t you BA!

  30. Outrigger Says:

McDermott was the DC for John Fox at Carolina before getting the Bills job. Whoever gets him as HC will be getting a proven winner. It’s a damn shame all these great coaches are dangling out there and the Glazers are still sticking with a mediocre to below mediocre coach in Bowles. I have no hope for next season which is something I haven’t been able to say since the lost decade. Sad

  31. Bowles Wasn’t Held Accountable Says:

Didn’t Arians highly recommend Bowles and Leftwich? Sorry, you can’t whiff as bad as those and still have credibility.

  32. unbelievable Says:

You think 10 wins is not “double digits”?

    Florida education right there lmao.

  33. teacherman Says:

Can Arians come back as OC?

    He’s a badass play caller!

  34. Warren Brooks Lynch Says:

Who’s seen the Bills Owner & GM presser, blaming everything on McDermott? And even blaming Keon Coleman on McDermott, though their GM is on video saying he was at the time Keon or bust, unless there was a wild trade offer.

Some of you want that type of incompetence out of the Glazers

  35. SB~LV 🏈 Says:

    Stomach turning photo 🤮🤮🤮

  36. JA Says:

The Glazers own the team and have the right to do what they want. They needn’t consult fans or, in this case, cater to their overwhelming desire to remove Todd Bowles when other, far more successful, head coaches have been relieved of their duties.
In each case, other ownerships would rather roll the dice with a chance to get better than stick with their very good, but not great outputs.
They are telling their fans, “Yeah, we’ve been good, but not good enough. We want to win it all, so jump on board for the ride!”
In Tampa, we get none of that.
The Glazers have chosen to stick with the status quo, even though the team’s finish would have gotten 99% of other coaches fired.
In my mind, the Glazers at least owe us an explanation for their thinking.
But that’s me. In reality, they owe us nothing.
And nothing is what we’re getting …
I never loved the Glazers because they were not “football people.” The nuances of the game have eluded them and they’ve shown no desire to learn. But I’ve always respected them … until now …

  37. 3rd and 28 in the Canoe Says:

Joe – How close are we to becoming the Den of Depression again?

  38. adam from ny Says:

yeah it would be kind of a cool move if BA came in for one season as like a “guest appearance” type play caller…

all his podium time would get hyper focused on, etc…

    it would be cool…

heck, we have a new play caller every year…why not arians for 2026…

if he needs to get juiced up beforehand, flask in jacket..let’s roll and get saucy…no bowl of peanuts or pretzels…biscuits and more biscuits…let roll with bad azz BA…!

  39. 813bucboi Says:

    my apologizes lol…

didnt realize bake won 10games the year he lead the NFL in INTs and Fumbles

    that remarkable lol

    GO BUCS!!!!

  40. Famu Rattler Says:

I have been border line during this OC searching, But I have decided that Todd Bowles time is come to and end. It is time that the Glazers made a change. Let the new HC bring his staff. If it means new GM in Tampa, so be it. There have been to many missed draft selections, to many FA that have not panned out, to many GM decisions/moves that should have been made that weren’t. To many late decisions that cost the Team improvements. The GM, has some 3rd, 4th and 5th round picks that panned out. But the years if 1st and 2nd round picks is the worst. The non-trades that should have been or the FA 3,4 and 5 star player that should have been signed but wasn’t. In my opinion If the right HC is available this late in the process and want to bring his GM, I say make the change. It is time to do so. otherwise we will be in for another loss decade. Go Bucs …time to make a change.

  41. Newbie Says:

It took 19 days for Team Glazer to fire Gruden for Ra Ra the Clown after the 08 season. There is hope still. I would welcome Coach McDerrmott. Or Mike McCarthy. Or Mike Tomlin. Or a handful of other upgrades. I would think McDermott will have a HC job soon unless he wants time off, like Tomlin. So maybe next year.

  42. Ben Says:

This blows your mind really? But your buddy Bowles is back? Now that Sh$t blows my mind!!!

  43. HC Grover Says:

BUT fire Bowles and Hire Sean!

  44. HC Grover Says:

BA is blowing smoke. As usual He may know something we do not.

  45. FormerBucFan Says:

    Hire McDermott damnit…that is all

  46. SB~LV 🏈 Says:

Ya can’t see the wagon of Glazers cash these two are pulling!
    Certainly can’t see the results!

  47. Hugh Glazerhouse Says:

If McDermott can consistently make the playoffs in his old division, he could win our division. Make Todd an offer he can’t refuse.

  48. Oxycondomns Says:

it looks alot like after 2002 where glazers tanked everything. ride out season ticket sales after winning super bowl rinse repeat. win another super bowl in 15 years

  49. Rob Says:

    As usual, Arians is correct.

  50. Oxycondomns Says:

they should have gave trask a shot next year or 2 that would have gotten the gator fans excited while tanking

  51. Buckit Says:

I would love to see the Glazer boys pull the plug on Todd too, but that is not going to happen. If it were, he would not be making coaching hires.

  52. No Mercy Says:

These headlines blow. No Mcdaniels best we get is a McMuffin our team stinks until proven a playoff contender

  53. HC Grover Says:

If the keep Bowzo time to DUMP THE BUCS…..

  54. Confido75 Says:

What a mess! Glazers have to make a splash now or lose the fan base completely.

  55. HC Grover Says:

I was first on McDermott as you alls snoozed with the Glazers…..HAHAHA Dump them….

  56. HC Grover Says:

He will not work as a Bowlzo underling. Fergit it.

  57. HC Grover Says:

JA they do not want to have to change the billboards on Dale Maby.

  58. Fanofdabucs Says:

There is just so much “dumb” in this joint.

One guy says Bowles and Baker haven’t won double digit games, which they did just last season. Then throws out how educated he/she is. Unreal

Other bozos want to hire McDermott as OC when he’s a defensive coach. Even if he was an OC, on what planet do you kive where you believe all great HC would want to come to Tampa to coach under Bowles?

This dump is always good for a chuckle or 10.
