Baker Mayfield Signed Off On Zac Robinson Hire

January 22nd, 2026

Zac Robinson

This really isn’t a shocker to Joe. But there are NFL fans who would be stunned by this revelation.

It seems, per Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, the Bucs hired new offensive coordinator Zac Robinson with the blessing of Baker Mayfield. (It makes Joe wonder who Mayfield may not have wanted.)

Mayfield remembered Robinson from his brief 2022 stint with the Rams before signing with the Bucs in March of 2023. Robinson, of course, was a former Sean McVay offensive assistant in Los Angeles.

It is the connection and comfort level that Mayfield had with Robinson that greased the wheels for the Bucs to sign Robinson.

While Robinson, the past two seasons in Atlanta, may not have set the world on fire with a dazzling offense, Joe has no idea if he was handcuffed in any way with former Dixie Chicks head coach Raheem Morris, who is a defensive guy.

That’s something Joe is going to keep in mind while the guy finds his sealegs with the Bucs.

This offseason feels like a train wreck so far. What a lame hire!

  2. SteveK Says:

You don’t say? I would’ve thought Baker wanted to reunite with Stefanski. Lmao! 🤣

  3. BucsFan81 Says:

Doesn’t matter after this year the rebuild will happen. So any of these coaches they hire now will be gone in a year. Bowles can’t coach him self out of paper bag. If he could fix this crappy defense he would have done it the last 9 weeks of the season when he lost 7 out of 9 games

  4. FootBall1 Says:

Ha, funny I predicted it after McDaniel fell through. When you look at it he seemed to be the best fit and most qualified. For whatever reason, maybe Baker the Bucs seems enamoured with coaches coming from the McVay, tree which includes Robinson.
I think he was the best hire out there!!!. Who knows maybe the Bucs can get a win after overcoming a 3rd and 28 of their own

  5. heyjude Says:

“Todd calls Zac after the interview, don’t leave town!!” Too funny. Baker stamped it. Let’s see what happens.

Brian Flores is a good fit for the Vikings.

  6. zzbucs Says:

I am not upset with this hire at all…..

I am exactly in the same place I was with Canales/Coen and Grizzard…

  7. Mhystc Says:

Lmao. “ With the first pick in the 2027 draft the Tampa
Buccaneers select. “ jk but we will be picking around top 5-10 can’t wait to clean house next year including Jason Licht.

  8. Hugh Glazerhouse Says:

So, we hired an OC from a mediocre team in the worst division in football? Wasn’t Josh Grizzard at least that?

  9. MadMax Says:

    Meh

  10. Kgh4life Says:

There’s was no chance Mcdaniel and Monken would’ve come to the Bucs, the coaching situation is up in the air, so they went to more stable situations. All in all Robinson was the safest hire: Had experience calling plays and has had some success.

  11. Jeffbuc Says:

The first thing he should do is sit down with Todd Bowles and tell him how easy it was for him to make Kirk cousins look like an all pro against his defense. And tell what they saw and help him fix the defense.

  12. Coconut Doughnut Says:

if we can just get our run game back to how it was when Liam was here that will be the difference in keeping Baker healthy.

  13. ocala Says:

No matter whom the Bucs ended getting as OC none of it matters with Bowles being the head coach.

  14. Zoocomics Says:

Man, there’s nothing like spending an entire season, reading and writing on a message board how bad Bowles is and how this season is going to suck. What exactly is the point of all of that? Do you some how think your message to all of us is going to make a difference to the Glazers? Oh wait, you think the Glazers read our comments? Ticket sales are the equalizer and that’s going to dictate change, and yeah, it’s going to eventually happen, just consider saving your finger strength, or perhaps find another team to cheer for.

This whole damn fan base is exhausting. I’m not thrilled about any of it, but I’m here to support, because there isn’t anything I can do about it. Most of you sound like a broken, just a miserable group.

  15. Baking with the next one Says:

I think Todd hired him so he won’t have to face him. No more 500 yards game against him in the division.

Now let’s see what geniuses are hired to make this defensive scheme simple enough for college kids to comprehend.

  16. Baking with Robinson Says:

    🤞🏼

  17. StonedBucsfan Says:

What a joke, Baker wanted Griz as well, looked how that BS worked out, why can’t the GM make his own pick?

  18. Warren Brooks Lynch Says:

    @Zoocomics

    Stages of Buc Fan grief:

Shock -“Oh no we’re keeping Bowles”
Denial -“I can’t believe the Glazers are keeping Bowles, how stupid”
Anger -“I’m not watching this team next year, I’m so mad”
Bargaining -“Make sure the next OC can replace Bowles as HC”
Depression -“We’re going to stink next year; there’s no hope”
Acceptance – TBD, maybe if we have a good enough free agency or draft, who knows lol

  19. Lefty Says:

Zoocomics- what exactly are you here to support? Acceptance of mediocrity? Players and the HC not being held accountable? Negativity is a bit over the top at JBF but unfortunately so is the world we are in these days.

  20. firethecannons Says:

Maybe now the Bucs will dump the whole kit and caboodle come 2027.

  21. Ufc Says:

Well I guess we will see how this one looks pretty quickly

  22. BFFL5678 Says:

I don’t think that hire is all that bad. The guy has had a pretty good run game for the last two years and knows how to use the RB out of the back field. This guys is getting possibly three to four weapons at receiver just like they had in LA.

  23. Lefty Says:

    Would McDaniel been awesome? Yes
Would Monken have been a good hire? Probably
Is Zac Robinson going to do a decent job? Most likely.

The demoralizing thing is it doesn’t matter with Bowles captaining the ship and the FU message that the Owners are putting out to all in Buc fan land.

  24. Okiejim Says:

Baker’s endorsement of Robinson ensured one thing, when the wheels come off the offense and the defense collapses, it will be goodbye to both Todd and Baker!

  25. Davenport Says:

If this guy was handcuffed by Raheem, he’s definitely going to love working for Bowles’ ultra conservative, play not to lose philosophy. What a joke this team has turned out to be.

I’m praying for a complete housecleaning in January 2027.

I think Todd hired him so he won’t have to face him. No more 500 yards game against him in the division.
    ________________________

You realize he was unemployed, right? Bowles wasn’t going to “face him” and its the only OC job he was going to get.

We hired a guy who wasn’t in demand and has never been successful. In other words, the perfect Bowles hire.

  27. Canabuc Says:

I am not against the higher. I think he is a better coordinator than it showed last year. I think he was somewhat hamstrung by the fact that his quarterback does not know how to take snaps from under center and that he was missing some of his starting lineman like we did as well as his top receiver for five games.

If nothing else he can likely help explain to our head coach how easy it is to beat this defense and maybe point out ways to change things around on defense.

Worse comes to worse if this doesn’t work out then the entire coaching staff including Todd Bowles and possibly even our GM if he fails to put together a roster that can compete at a high level once again.

  28. Daryl Green Says:

He has a better qb in Baker then he had in Alanta.

  29. Mike Says:

We need to get some insurance on the O-Line as our backup guards did not get the job done and we weren’t able to run the ball effectively like before. We also need to get some good LB’s and pash rushing D Ends please!

  30. Rob5 Says:

The only thing most of you are experts in is negativity …
if TB has a good record this year don’t hop on to the band wagon…you can just stay on the side lines still complaining..

  31. Ash Says:

With experience hope he has a better feel for the game than grizzard who seemed very lost. Wow good thing the bucs didnt draft penix like wouldnt let that go a 26 year old QB with no knees.

  32. Woodman Says:

That’s opinion not fact Davenport. There are to many guys on here that try to turn their opinions into facts .

  33. Mort Says:

    Good. Love it. LFB.

  34. Stuck with Green Says:

Fortune favors the bold. There’s nothing bold about this OC hire. And Bowles is still the HC.

  35. DJR589 Says:

We’re gonna be so super mediocre. Guess we got the leftovers cause no one wants to work for a lame duck coach. Zac Robinsons offense was 13th in total yards (369.0 YPG) and 23rd in points (22.9 PPG) in 2024 and 24th in total yards (332.7 YPG) and 19th in points (20.8 PPG) in 2025. Ooooweee so NOT exciting!

  36. buc4evr Says:

Whatever, maybe he can do something with the offense. Not excited, but to be honest at least he has some prior NFL OC experience, which Grizzard didn’t. The big issue is still the defense. Bucs need a DC.

  37. Bojim Says:

As long as Todd leaves him alone.

  38. Megoat13 Says:

    Weebs10 couldn’t agree more

  39. Warren Brooks Lynch Says:

“Zac Robinsons offense was 13th in total yards (369.0 YPG) and 23rd in points (22.9 PPG) in 2024 and 24th in total yards (332.7 YPG) and 19th in points (20.8 PPG) in 2025“

Saying this is like saying it as if Robinson was on the field generating this production himself.

Totally discounts him being in a different kitchen, with a new kitchen staff, and different ingredients. Why would the menu be the same?

  40. Will Says:

    Nice let’s see him ball
