Will “Raise The Flags” Affect Todd Bowles’ Job Security?

December 31st, 2025

Members of Team Glazer.

Earlier this month, Team Glazer with Amazon Prime released a stunning and spectacular 10-part doumentary on the Buccaneers’ 50-year history: Raise The Flags.

What an epic production. So much was covered — and so much was left out. Joe wants another 5 episodes! It’s a must-watch for any Bucs fan.

And featured prominently are members of Team Glazer.

That was a surprise.

Team Glazer typically shuns media exposure. Huge moments in Bucs history have happened on their watch and they didn’t comment on them when they happened. The spotlight has not been their thing.

Perhaps that’s changed now that members of Team Glazer are documentary stars?

Bucs co-owner Ed Glazer was the Raise The Flags producer and, obviously, signed off on Team Glazer being portrayed through Bucs history as an ownership group obsessed with winning. That’s the story that came screaming through the second half of the documentary. (Team Glazer bought the Bucs in 1995.)

So Joe has to wonder whether Team Glazer realizes retaining Todd Bowles as head coach after he captained an epic collapse over the past two months absolutely would clash with how ownership was portrayed in the documentary they paid handsomely to create.

Sure, Joe realizes there may be all kinds of 2025 Bucs secrets unknown to fans or media that could be a factor in a Bowles decision, but Joe also knows there are no secrets on the field.

The Bucs look like the worst team in the NFL’s worst division. That’s nothing to raise a flag about.

in my opinion the glazers are obsessed with optics and hype. they always have been.

  2. johnnythemoon Says:

NFC South will be up for grabs for a few years as Saints-Carolina -Atlanta have nothing right now for sure at QB … It is always about the QB which is why we are 1-7 as the QB has played like a 1-7 QB .

  3. nick houllis Says:

Word of warning for Bucs fans who havnt been around longer than 5-7 years; I know you want a new coach, I know you think a new coach will solve all the problems. You may even know your history, how Dungy was fired, and we won a Super Bowl the next year. Notice: This is not as talented a team as Dungy’s 01 team, not even close. You want to be a good consistent team? like the Ravens? like the Steelers? Like the Patriots? what do they have in common… they dont fire coaches every few years. The Bucs have that in their past too.. firing coaches every couple of years. From 2008 to 2019 The Bucs had 6 head coaches In those 12 seasons. There was not one single playoff season in there, not one. Be careful what you ask for, google the expression “the devil you know…”

  4. Cobraboy Says:

Right now, this nay be the worst team in the NFL.

    Certainly the most underachieving…

If Bowles stays, a huge % of Buc fans become apathetic…

  5. Cobraboy Says:

nick soulless may be the only Buc fans who wanted to keep Radio and Schiano…

  6. PanhandleBuc Says:

Keeping Bowles would 100% contradict how they portrayed themselves on that docu-series, which was AWESOME!

If they bring him back, they will lose ALL credibility of being owners obsessed with winning! Remember what the definition of insanity is…and we will relive 2025 in 2026 and that’s a FACT JACK!!!

  7. Lakeland Says:

It’s not surprising that they have been bad during the past 9 games
And it starts with the Head Coach.
But the play of the QB is just as important

And we have got absolutely nothing from our QB during this stretch
Our QB play has been horrible, and that’s being lenient on him

Todd Bowles need to be fired

For the simple reason of sticking with an inefficient QB

    —————————————————————————–

In 2020 and 2021, they spent tens of millions of dollars – cash out of their pockets above and beyond the NFL salary cap to win a Super Bowl and attempt to go back-to-back. And at the end of last season, they attempted to make Coen the highest-paid Offensive Coordinator in the NFL.

No owners do that if winning is not their priority.

  9. Popmike66 Says:

Nick houllis, good point. Yes I ve watched the Bucs for 50 years, the McKay, L Bennett, R Perking era so I am well aware of your point

  10. Allen Lofton Says:

Is the legacy the Glazers family want 🤔 for the Bucs? I can’t imagine Billionaire usinessmen like the Glazers wanting that. That’s a terrible stain following the Brady years.

Expect changes at the end of the season.

  11. BUC4L Says:

It amazes me how many people still point the finger at the QB. Mayfield is good enough to get the job done. He is the least of our worries right now. He has been missing most of his line all season, his OC sucks, and probably has been playing hurt. So for that Baker deserves a pass. I have seen enough of him to believe he can get the job done. Now we need to fix what is all around him. Go Bucs!

  12. Joseph C Simmons Says:

The Eagles had an epic collapse in 2023, did NOT fire their head coach, and won a Super Bowl the next year. So it is conceivable that they keep Bowles.

The difference is that the Sirianni fired both his coordinators and reset the coaches’ room. Bowles can’t really do that as he’s the D coordinator and the defense is the problem.

I really like Bowles, but I don’t think he survives this. And if the new head coach wants to run a 4-3 defense the talent we have won’t fit at all.

    ———————————————————————————

While our QB play has been bad over the past month and a half, the coaching staff likely believed Mayfield was still the better option than Bridgewater.

Even though our QB play has been bad, the Bucs should still have won some of those games, and would have if the defense and special teams were just average. It’s not helpful to give up 45-yard kick returns when you’re trying to win a game or allowing field goals to be blocked.

  14. Jmarkbuc Says:

    Nick

I’ve been here all 50 years and I know when a coach is inept.

  15. David Says:

    Lakeland

What is the other option? Teddy Bridgewater? The man who overthrows everything and got McMillan out for most of the season because of an overthrow in preseason?

I’m not defending Baker, he has not played well, but we know what he can do when healthy and he has not been healthy.
The main problem has been the guards. Guard depth is not existent. The guard play has been horrific.
But a lot of the issues have been the OC. It has not evolved and it has not been good as they’ve gotten more and more players back on offense. It’s become clear that the OC needs to go along with the ST coach and HC/DC.

Some don’t believe it right now, but this team has a lot of talent on it. There is no excuse for being 2–8 coming down the stretch.

  16. Chipbuc Says:

If Bowles comes back next year no one will come to the games. There’s no amount of change of coaching that doesn’t include Bowles that is acceptable. Can you imagine another year of that defense. I don’t want to see it. It’s too many years of the same defense that never helps the offense out after a turnover. How about a short field for the offense once in awhile.Defensive turnovers are non existent. Time for a whole team make over. Sad to say it looks like he’s lost most of the team.

  17. Jmarkbuc Says:

    Raise the flags was awesome.

One of the things that stuck with me the most was when we were getting boat raced by KC in the regular season of SB year…you know when Hill torched us for 200 in the first half… was that we got back in the game because we switched to Tampa 2 in the second half. Duh.

ummm, this thread is about a 10 part multimesdiamasturbatory self congratulation fest where they have one of the family heap praise on the rest of the family in order to publicly spin a narrative.

if creating a 10 part documentary about yourself isnt about hype and optics, then what is?

  21. Steven007 Says:

Lakeland, don’t let that Polk county air cloud your judgment. I agree with plenty of what you say. But the QB, while a problem lately, is among the least of our issues. Clearly there’s no backup to go to so we’re stuck in that regard. Clearly defense is as much, if not more of an issue. And that’s no easy fix. I too watched the documentary and did not see how that would square with what’s happening now in terms of ownership being okay with this.

  22. Miller5252 Says:

After finally watching all 10 parts it would blow me away if they kept Bowles. After the Glazers talk about each coach and why they did what they did, if they don’t fire Bowles then everything on that was spun in a certain direction.

  23. ‘74 Bucs Fan Says:

Optics is the key word for the Glazers. Is there excitement and optimism here? Is the arrow pointing up? Negative ghost rider.

All coaches must go. That is the only way to generate any excitement about next season. Keeping Bowles will push fans away and will directly affect the Glazer’s wallet. Bowles and his staff must go Monday morning at the latest.

  24. Steven007 Says:

Coach has shot himself in the foot by being the DC. If he wasn’t, he could survive with changes at both coordinator positions. Can’t see him giving up the DC reins. Up until this season he has improved slightly every year. Whether that gets him a pass given injuries etc, we will find out shortly.

  25. JustOneGame Says:

Once again, actions speak louder than words. The Glazers historically are cheap when paying their HC. If you want a high end coach you have to open the check book. Even Arians was reportedly only making around 5 million per year. And people are shocked Coen bolted

  26. Steven007 Says:

74, if we win Saturday, and yes, that’s a big. And the saints win Sunday, we have another game to go before we likely end the season. We painted ourselves into this ugly corner. And it had to spend the entire team and coaching staff. We have some trolls that are trying to sell that the quarterback single-handedly lost the past four games, but that’s demonstrably ridiculous. These are team losses. And the defense has largely been responsible. Offense hasn’t helped much, but they’ve done enough in most cases.

  27. ‘74 Bucs Fan Says:

Steven007 – understand we still have a shot at the playoffs, but that’s unlikely. I hope we catch fire, catch a break, and bring home the Lombardi. Anything short of at least a playoff win and Bowles should be canned imo.

First to worst and only a handful of players seem to really care. What are you going to do Glazers?

  28. Obvious Says:

I’m not sure how you go on and on about caring about winning and let this nonsense continue.

We’ll find out soon enough if it’s true or if they don’t want to pay the money to make the problem go away.

I’d bet good money it’s the former. Todd will walk the plank soon enough. Maybe he ‘retires’ to save face. But if I were him I’d make them fire me so
    I can get paid.

  29. Lakeland Says:

I’m not saying that Baker Mayfield is the only reason we’re losing
I’m saying the Bucs Front Office , including the HC and GM
Should have had a plan B in place, if they lose their starting QB
I’m almost sure they brought Bridgewater in to be Baker consultant
Not as a legitimate backup QB, but as a QB coach/Consultant

  30. ‘74 Bucs Fan Says:

Obvious – I think Bowles is getting paid whether he is fired or retired as he’s still under contract. I could be way off on that.

Really appreciate everyone’s comments on here. You guys are awesome! Better days are ahead. Happy New Years bros!

  31. Davenport Says:

’74 — Bowles gets paid out if he is fired. He gets nothing if he retires. I am thinking that Bowels and the Glazers work out a settlement and then he “retires” rather than being fired.

  32. Tye Says:

In a matter of DAYS we will know whether the documentary was true, from the heart and sincere OR advertising, politics and pure BS!

  33. Told You Says:

After watching raise the flags, I don’t see how the Glazers keep Todd with any credibility at all. Everything from that wonderful series points to him being fired. As for @Lakeland and @Rod Munch, get off your baker trip. You’re knowing the hell out of all of us. He’s not going anywhere next year, so it’s moot, shut up already. And all these people saying we won’t win a Super Bowl next year with a new coach…this isn’t 2002, no one is saying that. So you shut up too.

  34. heyjude Says:

“Raise the Flags” was awesome. Laughed, cried, laughed and cried again. Beautifully done. We are a family, for sure ❤️❤️

  35. Tye Says:

People harping a new coach is detrimental is clueless…
Coach Coe (who was a Bucs OC last year) turned the sorry Jags around his 1st year and a 12+ win team and in the playoffs….
Bowles only makes playoffs depending on the misfortune of the rest of the NFC South…. Pathetic!

  36. Adam Says:

More like raise the White Flag and surrender.
Just like like this team did.

  37. StormyInFl Says:

For all of you wanting to stick with Bowles because “the devil you know” and “other teams stuck with coaches during down years” – those coaches (Tomlin and Belichek, for example) had already won as HC, whereas Bowles is a career loser. He hasn’t won anything, and has a track record of mediocrity or worse.

Sticking with this idiot would be the epitome of stupidity. It will continue to set this franchise back. If the Glazers had any vision at all, they would have launched him last year and installed Coen. But – as someone else said – the Glazers are concerned with “optics”, and the optics of firing a black head coach to promote his white assistant was probably more than they could stomach.

  38. Buc1987 Says:

    Fire Bowles!

  39. Panhandle Buc Says:

Bowles MUST go, regardless of the outcome on Saturday!!!

There is no other acceptable option!!!! None!

  40. Warrenfb12 Says:

He’s toast at the end of the year dude. You can’t go 8-9 with Tom Brady then have a collapse-that I would agrue- worse than Raheem’s final year. He is out, slam dunk(unless they make the playoffs and have a deep run).

  41. Trey Says:

Raise the white flag this weekend so we can all be done with this season and move onto finding new leadership for this organization.

  42. Buc in VA Says:

Joe realizes there may be all kinds of 2025 Bucs secrets unknown to fans or media that could be a factor in a Bowles decision, but Joe also knows there are no secrets on the field.

Joe: that’s some sharp writing! “No secrets on the field” is perfect.

  43. Hodad Says:

Truth is most Buc fans weren’t happy having Bowles dumped on us. Now most Buc fans want him gone. Losing 7 of 8 isn’t winning. Glazers really want to win, prove it. Fire both the Meathead, and the Wooden Indian.

  44. Bucs Reality Check Says:

What will probably get Bowles fired…

It’s not just the collapse this season, the team did the same thing last year for a stretch of games.

    BUT…

Team Glazer will probably fire him because of something else…

    LIAM COEN.

They surely have major regret over not getting a deal done to keep Coen and to even have made a plan to promote him to head coach.

The fact that Coen turned the Jags around in only one season has to have the Glazers realizing the importance of a good head coach and OC in the NFL.

Bowles is a nice guy but he doesn’t make for a great head coach. He just doesn’t seem to have “it” like many other NFL coaches do.

I think the Glazers know the team is at a major disadvantage to the rest of the NFL due to our weak coaching staff, and that’s something that can be fixed with CHANGE.

  45. Obvious Says:

Fowler was on twitter claiming that the buyout will cause them to keep him but make him change his entire staff.

What a half measure that would be. What would be the point of swapping out your coordinators (or in this case hiring a dc) only to keep him? Just to save a few bucks? Bad look for the fans and sponsors.

Also – every perspective coach would understand he’s on thin ice so you wouldn’t get your first choices. Not saying it can’t be done effectively but it’s a harder stretch than getting a guy in here that gets some runway with his own ppl.

  46. Rick Says:

Should have ZERO affect. That is no way to run ANY business. Yes it’s a sport, entertainment, etc… but it’s the business for the Glazers. Love them or despise them, trust me thats how they approach this.

  47. Blows sux Says:

This team has no respect for this coach period! If you think the problem lies anywhere else you’re blind.
This team cannot be inspired or motivated to play by a coach that has no inspiration or motivation. How many times have you heard announcers calling the game say “not sure what they were doing on that play” Bowles was a terrible coach when he got here and he’s even worse now. Any success this team had was because of Canales or Coen.
The best head coach we heard on this team left for Jacksonville earlier this year.
