Weather Was An Issue For Bucky Irving

December 9th, 2025

So Sunday in the shocking loss to the slimy Saints in Tampa, Bucs running back Bucky Irving got off to a poor start.

At one point he had a dozen carries for less than 20 yards.

However, fellow running backs Sean Tucker and Rachaad White had much more success, and consistent success. But the Bucs went back to Irving and he broke a run late in the game.

So what was up with Bucky early? It seems, per Todd Bowles, Irving’s style wasn’t meshing the rainy weather sloppy field.

“I think he had to adjust early on with the weather. He was trying to jump cut and do all the side to side stuff and you know, and that type of weather you gotta get going downhill,” Bowles told the Buccaneers Radio Network.

“And I think he adjusted well in the second half and started getting downhill.”

Why it took so many carries for Bucky to adjust is anyone’s guess. The Bucs certainly knew the weather forecast before kickoff.

So many mysteries with this team. Nothing makes sense. Why oh why do we collectively play and coach like crap. Starts at the top. Fire over confident mistake prone clueless Bowles!

  2. Hold Up Says:

Is the field going to be ready for Thursday? Looked pretty chewed up Sunday.

  3. Daryl Green Says:

I’m Fn yelling & the tv Put Tucker in the game!!!
My Bucky is slasher/ cutter. See this is why fans question the HC.
And further more, they had to know the forecast did they practice with wet balls.
    Just stupid and frustrating.

everyone knew it was gonna rain on Sunday…even Todd has a weather widget on his phone. if you did practice in simulated rain during the week. That is a fire able offense. From Dino-Arians to Jason to Todd. Fire them all.

Glazers…you are wasting money on these losers.

  5. Bartow Buc Says:

I’m sure the weather was an issue for Bucky and his style of running. Heck, the weather was an issue for both teams and unfortunately our Buccaneers came out of the game with less points !!
We sure need a productive BI 7 this Thursday night. We have one heck of a stable of running backs that should be able to wear any team out if our offensive line is executing their blocking schemes correctly.

Go Bucs !! Beat the Falcons!!

  6. Aqualung Says:

Pathetic coaching. White and Tucker were killing it. Can’t watch another game with the Clownzo regressing the franchise.

  7. Tucker Says:

This looks like a team that likes to take it’s time off. Just looks like they don’t do much until the games start and then everyone gets injuried. Zero chemistry and so sloppy they just look so confused by themselves by the opposing team they even have me confused.

  8. Cleanhouse Says:

I was also yelling at the tv to run with tucker. If they would have just played downhill they would have won easily.

  9. MelvinJunior Says:

@ Bartow Buc – Then, why was he even in the game… Who’s decision was that!?

I love Bucky, and be that as it may, we are talking about the weather in Florida. Yes, it rains, it storms without lightning, it’s muddy, … Did others have a hard time too because of the rain? Chase was doing really well getting those field goals in. Baker was cruising around in the rain.

Gee whiz, what happened to practicing in the rain? The elements? Bills had another snow game and won. Packers and many other teams play in the rain, sleet, snow, wind, … College players are in the weather elements all the time.

People that work outside every single day for a living would have a lot to say about million dollar players having a hard time playing in the rain. Do we need to build a dome like others now or just put bubble wrap around the players?

I’m sorry, but this kind of tells me that he wasn’t alone either and some are blaming the rain. Sounds like the Milli Vanilli’s song for this game. Ugh.

    Gruden.

Bad coaching. Is obvious that in a dampened field heavier running backs that have a more North-South running stile will do better. But this coaching group decided they needed a full game to understand that… blunder over blunder over blunder…

Still not sold on Bucky. I feel, if given reps, Tucker would have 100 plus days consistently. Feed him.

“I think he had to adjust early on with the weather. He was trying to jump cut and do all the side to side stuff and you know, and that type of weather you gotta get going downhill,”

And you continued to call his number, why? If its not Bucky’s type of weather, why would you NOT give more carries to a downhill type of runner like RW and Tucker??

Todd, do you really know what it means to “go with the hot hand”? It means NOT going into the game with preconceived notions and SEEING what is really happening in the game and ADJUSTING accordingly.

  15. jcscycles Says:

Tucker ran well. Stick with him. Yet, coaching staff only uses him as the feature back when everyone else is hurt. Not a great blocker, but neither is Bucky.

Hopefully, the next OC will use him as the feature back. Tucker has speed – and speed cannot be taught.

  16. heyjude Says:

    jccycles – Agree about Tucker!

  17. Bartow Buc Says:

Melvin, I’m sure that was Grizzard, hoping Bucky would break a nice run or two. Which he did, just not enough nice runs. I think the O line was affected greatly by not having Wirfs at LT. Affected not only by his talent not being there but his leadership as well.

Go Bucs !! Beat the Falcons !!

  18. MelvinJunior Says:

They gave him so many early touches that I actually had to google his stats with still about 2-minutes left in the first-quarter! Seriously, they had already called HIS number something like 11-TIMES. He had two catches, but wasn’t even averaging close to 2-yards PER CARRY. What happened with all the “hot hand” BS. And, NOW they’re trying to say… Well, it was RAINING, and Bucky just doesn’t do well on a WET FIELD!? Really!? And, YOU STILL gave him the ball like, 11-TIMES!? Now, do WHAT!? Anyone who ‘buys’ ANY of this nonsense, are only lying to themselves.
