Todd Bowles Doesn’t Think Run Blocking Was An Issue

December 8th, 2025

Sean Tucker had a solid day running.

Aside from two runs, it looked like some dude dragged off the street was wearing No. 7 for the Bucs yesterday.

Rachaad White and Sean Tucker ran well when they got the rock. The two combined for 18 carries and weach averaged over four yards an attempt.

So Bucs coach Todd Bowles said that while he still had to watch film, he didn’t think the Bucs’ run blocking dragged the team down, even though left guard Ben Bredeson went down with a knee injury.

“I thought we got it going a little bit in the second half,” Bowles said of the run game. “Those [offensive line backups] have played; that’s kind of the theme for this year. We’ve play with injured guys and those guys got some depth, but we expect to go in there and perform when we put them in there.”

The Bucs always talk about the hot hand. Well, that hand was apparently busy with something else.

On the drive ending with a Sean Tucker one-yard touchdown midway through the third quarter, Tucker was gouging the slimy Saints by running to the left. When the Bucs got the ball back the next time, the team that preaches hot hand instead gave the ball to Bucky running right for nothing and on second down Baker Mayfield had a pass tipped.

Some hot hand, huh?

More often than not lately, far more often than not, Joe doesn’t know what Bucs offensive coordinator Josh Grizzard is trying to accomplish with his east-to-west offense.

Sadly, the game of football requires an offense to go north-and-south to score. Maybe it could help if Grizzard had more receivers run routes past the sticks on third down once in a while?

Mike evans is the catalyst of our offense from blocking to taking the safety on his side and demanding attention..yall don’t know x and o’s and that irks me here….watch how the offense will look rejuvenated with evans returning this week everyone will compliment each other instead of doing too much..our other receiver need blocking lessons chris and Mike can block…I love the chip plays for godwin only seen one of those yesterday and it went for a big gain after he set the block and released

Right now Sean Tucker is the best running back on this team. Why is number three when getting the ball. Yes Bucky and Rashad probably have big play potential, but until that happens it is just a dream. Put the ball in the hand of your best players.

Demote Grizzard, hire Chip Kelly. Third time has not been a charm, no mas.

SB LV: the season ticket holders can make a statement by refusing to buy in again as long as Bowles is running the team. The Glazers do understand financial loss and I think they are not that keen about Bowles losing every year to inferior talent.

As far as the offense. Well, the plays are badly scripted and there is no vertical game. Perhaps Baker is limited due to his injuries but that is no excuse for what Joe stated above and I am done with Otten, at least Licht did not open the bank vault for him along with Zyon but that means TE is just another need besides a back up QB, OL depth, starting LBs in all spots, edge rush (yeah that is not gonna happen) and secondary help. Time for changes and they start at the top.

Bowels doesn’t realize that he’s the issue.

It wasn’t pretty yesterday. We have been here before and it is tiring hearing the same excuses and rhetoric. I understand coaches uplifting their team, but something is wrong. And it’s not only the coaches, it’s all, players, and including our GM. That vibe we saw early on has disappeared. Maybe once Mike is back, it will all be back. He is surely missed.

Liam Coen came in after Canales. He wasn’t perfect either. He also wasn’t the answer since we had healthier players last season. We also had Mike in there longer too; but not this season. Grizz was with Coen last season. Same type of plays without those horrible fancy ones that were under Coen. And the way Coen left, still leaves a sour taste. The thing is that the OC doesn’t make the final decision with their plays, the head coach has a say too.

An interesting comparison. First, I agree that Baker played terrible. A blind man could see that. Passes and timing were way off. But…

3 Starting O-line players were out, then a backup went out on the first play.

    Sound familiar?

14 passes completed out of 33 attempts. 160 Total yards. 0 TDs to 3 INTs.

    Passer rating of 19.8

The problem is with the QB. It’s always the QB. I’ve never seen Baker play like this. Ever. He’s more concerned in limiting turnovers than making plays. Bowles spent the offseason harping on old fashioned football- run the football and limit turnovers and win games. Great strategy when you’ve got a top defense. The identity of this football team is as a scoring juggernaut. QBs afraid to risk it. OC is afraid to risk it. I’m a Bowles fan but he needs to let Griz and Baker take over this offense. Only chance we have is a radical change. Now. Air this sucker out! Set up the run game with the passing game. I don’t care if we throw an interception if we score 30 points. Baker has lost his swagger and looks like he’s playing not to lose. We don’t have a chance if we think we can run the ball and play keep away and beat anybody. We have to get aggressive with the play calling and let Baker be Baker. Because Baker isn’t playing like Baker. He’s playing like Tommy DeVito.

  13. StormyInFl Says:

    Bowles needs to go.

Any other answer will not fix the root cause of the problem.

  14. Gipper Says:

Can tell when Baker is in pocket receivers aren’t getting any separation. He is stuck holding the ball and then forced to scramble. If Egbuka and Godwin hold on to those dropped balls, the story of that game yesterday is totally different. Somebody here commented on Mahomes struggles yesterday. It never changes. Protect the QB, hang onto his passes, and have sensible play calls. Those Grizz WR screens aren’t fooling anyone. How about we pass on 1st down once in awhile?

  15. Bojim Says:

Grizzard was trying to force the hot hand on Bucky. Couldn’t figure out that it wasn’t happening that day. Figure it out by halftime!!

  16. Hodad Says:

Todd Bowles doesn’t think period. He’s a joke, and the punch line is his defense. I think Todd hired the unqualified Grizz, because he didn’t want an OC who could replace him like Coen almost did. Who’s McVay’s OC? It’s time to start the coaching search, this season is over.

cant air it out in a torrential downpour. some people are so stupid.

  19. Gipper Says:

Game looks a lot easier from a couch with a remote. Play calling suspect. Nothing suspect about defense. Poorly coached and played by a lot of defenders lacking talent. 2025 draft was supposed to help. Little evidence that it did.
