NFC South Surge Around Bucs Should Matter To Team Glazer
December 30th, 2025Bucs ownership and management have not confirmed Todd Bowles will coach the team next season, despite a firestorm of distractions before a key game in the form of fans screaming from rooftops for his job. So Joe assumes Team Glazer is still assessing whether Bowles is worth keeping.
And Joe thinks it’s logical to conclude that assessment includes what’s happening around the Bucs in their division.
In Atlanta, the Falcons are now 7-9, surging with an old backup quarterback. They’ve won three straight, including proving their mettle last night in a shocking upset of the need-the-game Rams. Could the current Bucs have beaten the Rams last night?
In New Orleans (6-10), the slimy Saints went 4-0 in December with a first-year head coach and a rookie quarterback who didn’t start the season. They’ve outperformed their preseason expectations.
And the Panthers (8-8) are getting a lot out of subpar talent as they lead the NFC South.
Bowles has taken a talented Bucs roster that includes the best quarterback in the division and, possibly, transformed the Bucs into the worst team in the NFC South. That potential reality won’t be settled until the weekend, but it’s alarming and appalling that it’s a legitimate argument in January.

Belowszo should already be jobless.

I am praying that the Glazers are not waiting and are already planning for the next coaching staff!

Fire the trainer/rehabilitation coordinator, she is completely worthless.
December 30th, 2025 at 8:55 am
Bowles “shot himself in the foot” way too much this year. How is he still standing?
December 30th, 2025 at 8:55 am
Yep.
This has been going on three years. Bowles and Licht have slowly and methodically sunk this franchise into oblivion.
We are at the bottom of the worst division in the NFL

Gruden to the rescue?
December 30th, 2025 at 8:58 am
Shocking the a genius coach that has orchestrated a bottom five defense three years in a row, did it again. Didn’t have Canales and Coen to save is butt this year.
Adios to Torpin Todd
December 30th, 2025 at 8:59 am
Maybe our talent is sub par? This organization at this point is not likeable. Not exciting. Just Blah. Who could be happy with this team letting Coen get away in favor of Bowzo…Not good.

December 30th, 2025 at 8:59 am
Bowles being launched after a loss Saturday, or, with a win and still missing the playoffs, would certainly fit the pattern of the Glazers. Hell, it fits the pattern of the Glazers, even if the Bucs make the playoffs, to launch a coach. That’s what they did to Dungy. Either way, it’s the right move. The rest of the division has caught up to Tampa Bay, and you have to expect that Carolina & Atlanta (even though they don’t have a first round pick this year) will get better, and New Orleans will improve as well. Keeping Bowles would be status quo and that would spell basement dweller status for the Bucs.
So let’s just hope the Glazers stick to the pattern and make the right decision.

My hope is that Todd Bowles will retire after this season.
It is the best outcome for all parties involved…
The fans will get the change they are desperately seeking.
The owners will be able to move on without firing a minority.
Todd Bowles will be able to save face and enjoy the rest of his life as the voice of Cleveland from Family Guy.
The players will be freed from playing for a below mediocre head coach and DC.
It’s a win/win/win/win/win…
Please Todd – do the “right thang”.

Our talent is there. It’s just not being managed/coached/run properly. We were predicted to get 10-12 wins this year, and we should have with the back half of the schedule. Only reason we are where we are is coaching. Way too much talent on this team to be in this situation.
December 30th, 2025 at 9:03 am
With a loss and a saints win, would the Bucs be last place in the South?
December 30th, 2025 at 9:06 am
The rest of the south has gotten and played better, the team with the easiest schedule has sucked arse. Blows my mind this team can’t win one of these games. Dumb luck should win you at least one.
December 30th, 2025 at 9:06 am
ATL fixed their defense in one off season
Aints defense has improved dramatically from one year to the next
Carolina’s defense has improved from last season
Bucs employ a defensive head coach and have the worst defense in the division
December 30th, 2025 at 9:08 am
What sort of message are you sending if you accept failure?…….Owners will pay the price of inaction.
December 30th, 2025 at 9:11 am
No I don’t think the current Bucs could beat the Rams. I think Todd owes Mcvay from embarrassment and prolonging his career a few weeks if nothing else. He would have to break the honor system.
December 30th, 2025 at 9:13 am
Well, we’re safe from Chip Kelly and so we got THAT to goin for us and which is nice
December 30th, 2025 at 9:18 am
I think it is obvious by now. Todd inherited a 13 win team with The GOAT and turned it into an 8-9 pumpkin. Baker’s bridge season was explainable at 9-8 and even the best season at 10-7. But those are now explainable by two OCs that’s HCs Now and out perfoming Todd. This,Saturday is not winner take all. Even if the Buccaneers win it is not for sure because if the falcon a win then Panthers win a three way tie. Falcons are doing it with a veteran Cousins. The other two are doing it with youngsters. Again all fingers point Bowles is the problem..
December 30th, 2025 at 9:18 am
The biggest thing to look at, other than what you said Joe about turning a talented team into the worst in the division is the 3 straight years of mid season slumps, they have gotten worse with each passing year.
December 30th, 2025 at 9:21 am
Marine Buc you just said what everyone else is thinking and would not say.. Todd,s leash was way too long for non football reasons.
December 30th, 2025 at 9:21 am
Kirk cousins was so afraid to get hit he was just tossing the ball up for grabs when all he had to do was step to the left or right. Them beating the rams and Bucs getting blown out means there needs to be a purge. Bucs should be sellers after this season is over, a few players need to go if they have a high draft pick like Winfield he’s replaceable
December 30th, 2025 at 9:22 am
Please enough with the Coen crap, he’s gone, concentrate on who the best coach is for this team and move forward hard. He may not have even worked out here for all we know. I would have fired Grizz and promoted Thad Lewis to see what he’s about. I think Grizz is a good coach and would /could be a good OC, curious to know how he has been either shut down, over ruled, not supported?
December 30th, 2025 at 9:24 am
Look what this team did last year with Coen. Its the same GM and players. This team is one head coaching change away from being as good as they were in 2024.
December 30th, 2025 at 9:24 am
Appreciate the site pushing this. I know you can’t and won’t call for a move but this is as close as you can get to doing it.
It’s beyond obvious to anyone paying attention what should be done Saturday/Sunday night assuming we lose and/or Atlanta wins.
If by some miracle we win and Atlanta loses then it should be made right after the clock goes 0:00 in the WC beat down at home.

If not then I would say Kubiak, Monken, Belichick, McCarthy, Kliff Kingsbury etc.
December 30th, 2025 at 9:37 am
I’ve been saying for weeks now that the rest of the teams have all gotten better through the year, while the Bucs have gotten worse as we got healthy. It’s the biggest indictment of this coaching staff. This team is not better than they were last year, and not better than it was in week 4, and it’s not because of injuries.

Your new head coach.
Senior Offensive Assistant for the Los Angeles Rams under head coach Sean McVay. He joined the Rams’ coaching staff for the 2025 season after spending 2024 as an offensive coordinator elsewhere.
In 2024, Van Pelt was the offensive coordinator for the New England Patriots, but he was let go after that season when the coaching staff changed.
Boston.com
Before that, he spent four seasons (2020–2023) as the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach for the Cleveland Browns.
Field Level Media
’s had a long NFL coaching career with stops in Buffalo, Tampa Bay, Green Bay, and Cincinnati earlier in his career before the Browns and Patriots.
December 30th, 2025 at 9:50 am
Change is needed despite the outcome of this weeks last game. Injuries was Tampas biggest obstacle with Todd Bowles coaching style a close second.
2025 Bucs needs some retooling. Keeping Bowles makes little sense with him approaching Social security eligibility.
The old saying of out with the old and in with new applies well with Bucs who have a good team but need to fill some needs through the draft and free agency.
The are quality coaches available who could lead the Bucs in 2026. Jason Licht didn’t have an opportunity to pick a head coach because of Arians decision to annoint Todd Bowles his successor.
Loyalty is admirable but it wasn’t to right decision for the Bucs. It’s time to make it right.

December 30th, 2025 at 10:03 am
Grizz never had a healthy OL, or a healthy QB like Canales and Coen. The Bucs won without their top three WRs. I like Todd Monken as HC, and keep Grizz as OC so Mayfield, for the first time in his NFL career, gets the same OC two years in a row.
December 30th, 2025 at 10:11 am
Some of you think the Glazers care what we think….that is totally laughable
December 30th, 2025 at 10:16 am
If those two had one pair they would have fired todd already im expecting him to be fired on purple monday if not then we will be in the same situation next year
December 30th, 2025 at 10:20 am
As a Bucs fan, I hope they catch fire and win the division and prove everyone wrong in the playoffs and get another ring. But the second half of this season has shown nothing to back up that hope.
In fact, in what may be an ironic finish, they might actually win this week and still not win the division because if Atlanta beats the Slimy Saints, there’ll be a 3 way tie and the Bucs lose out on the tie-breakers!
That said, the arrows are certainly pointed in different directions for the Bucs and the rest of the South. Change is warranted and I’m sure the Glazers are working hard on it.
December 30th, 2025 at 10:25 am
If the season started at the bye week, the Bucs would almost have the first pick in the draft locked up.
December 30th, 2025 at 10:27 am
The Glazers won’t keep a coach who melted down publicly to the point where he dropped 7 F bombs in 30 sec in a press conference. There were prob kids watching that.
Bowles is done.
December 30th, 2025 at 10:34 am
Hasn’t this pretty much happened every season? Seems like there’s a team or two that goes on a run and threatens to overtake us but ultimately stumbles down the stretch, whereas we would stumble early but then go on a run. Only this year it’s reversed, where we came out strong and fumbled while they go on their runs.
December 30th, 2025 at 10:38 am
On paper, the Bucs have the best roster. Everyone and the Glazers knew this coming into the season.
With what is happening around the division, it’s pretty clear the Bucs have the worst coaching staff.
Bowles slogan at this point is doing less with more.
December 30th, 2025 at 10:52 am
My concern is that we will still have the same GM after Bowles is fired Saturday night.
Take Brady out of the picture and look at his record. It’s not pretty.
One guy changed the fortune of the franchise. QB is the most important player.
Mayfield was electric with a solid OC who knew his job well. So 2026 is a big year for Baker with the right coaching.
Bowles and Griz have to be shown the door immediately.
Licht gets one more chance but is on thin ice. Rebuild the front defensive line and LB core.
Plus most importantly, get the right coaches to fix everything Bowles has ruined.
There’s zero chance they win Saturday. The team has given up on him.
December 30th, 2025 at 10:59 am
@Marine Buc Says
Retire him and avoid firing a minority? Hiring and firing should be done on character and competence. If the Glazers had used this approach, Bowles would never have been promoted to HC.

December 30th, 2025 at 11:09 am
Blow it up! We’ve all seen enough of this bad joke. I much prefer a rebuilding year than to be subjected to this continued joke.
It’s clear that money is the primary concern for the Glazers, and it must be clear by now that fans will not endorse another year of this clown show. The Glazers must have a plan in place to elicit excitement that drives fans to the game and to follow the team. Without the hope and excitement, they WILL lose money next year and will be a national embarrassment as the stadium is either empty or overrun with opposition fans. Being embarrassed is not on their wish list.
December 30th, 2025 at 11:10 am
As much as I’ve supported Todd Bowles, it’s becoming increasingly clear that after three years, the excuses for the defense just aren’t cutting it anymore. The same issues missed tackles, inconsistent pass rush, and poor coverage continue to haunt this team. It’s time to move on and make a change.
However, it’s not just Bowles who needs to be held accountable. Jason Licht, the general manager, also deserves scrutiny. Looking at his drafts over the last five years, especially on the defensive side, there’s been a troubling pattern of underperformance.
Let’s start with 2021. The Buccaneers’ top five picks that year? None of them are on the team anymore. The first-round pick, Joe Tryon-Shoyinka (JTS), showed flashes of ability to pressure the quarterback but still struggles with fundamentals like tackling and finishing plays.
In 2022, the Bucs traded down in the draft and selected Logan Hall in the second round, essentially their first-round pick. Unfortunately, Hall has been little more than a backup player who wouldn’t start anywhere else in the league. This was a year where the Bucs missed out on George Karlaftis (a starter in Kansas City), Devin Lloyd (a standout linebacker for the Jaguars), and Jermaine Johnson (an impact defensive tackle for the Jets). Instead, they traded up in the fifth round to grab Zyon McCollum, a cornerback they then extended to a 3-year deal only to see him struggle with injuries and limited impact when he’s on the field. It’s a tough pill to swallow when you consider the defensive talent they passed on.
In 2023, the Bucs focused on offensive weapons, but defensively, they used a first-round pick on Calijah Kancey, who has yet to stay healthy long enough to make a consistent impact. Along with Yaya Diaby and Dennis, the defensive picks from this draft have mostly proven to be backups at best. The defense remains a glaring weak point despite these investments.
Moving to 2024, the team seemed to address offense well, but defensively, Chris Braswell, a second-round pick, barely sees the field. In his second year, he should be playing at least 60% of the snaps, yet he’s hardly involved. This is another sign of failure in terms of player development.
Finally, in 2025, the Bucs made another strong offensive pick in the first round, but Morrison, their second-round pick, hasn’t been able to stay healthy and has struggled to make any significant impact on the field. Parrish (third round) has at least shown some promise, particularly as a tackler, but with the way this defense has been built, potential alone isn’t enough. Roberts (fourth round) also got hurt, raising questions about whether the defense is doomed to another draft failure.
Add all of this to the fact that with all the injuries and struggles on defense this season, no trades were made to try to improve the roster. It’s a missed opportunity to try and bolster a defense that is clearly underperforming
December 30th, 2025 at 11:20 am
The owners drop what, $10M – $15M on the 50th anniversary video series of the team. Trying to establish an environment of consistent excellence. Looking to portray pride in the franchise. And what happens? The team collapses and lays an egg. A complete and utter embarrassment to the owners and the fans. If the owners do have any sense of pride of ownership, they have got to fire the coaches and do a complete reset. What’s more, they need to tell Licht that he has two off seasons in which to assemble a team that reaches the NFC championship game, otherwise, they’ll need to reset the front office. This group of players and coaches has lost all of the Brady influence.
Enough time has been given to the Bowles experiment.
December 30th, 2025 at 11:33 am

December 30th, 2025 at 11:47 am
The chance of the Bucs go to playoff is very slim less than the flip of the coin. Panthers looks like going to the playoff. The Bucs do not deserve going to the playoffs anyway. The whole team is giving up with captain Bowlo. It is time for a change next season. Baker will not keep up with the surging of the south. Bucs need to change a new direction if they want to have a chance to win next season. The division will be up for grab with the best teams and not a cakewalk anymore. Bucs need to load up before fire the cannons. The change will start with captain Bowlo.
December 30th, 2025 at 11:53 am

December 30th, 2025 at 12:24 pm
worst team in nfc south. its not baker who has to go. people were saying same thing about trevor lawrence. the offense, defense and special teams are bad thats a clear indicator of head coaching
December 30th, 2025 at 12:41 pm
RIP 2025 Bucs Season, maybe Baker should have sat out for a few weeks after he got seriously injured. If he had earlier this season. He may be able to throw the ball consistently accurate. but his celebrated warrior mentality hinders the team at times. Next season, the new HC needs to reign that mentality in when he is seriously hurt. Additionally, hope Hassan Reddick enjoyed his final big payday. he came here and ripped off this team. His half-butt effort he gives on field will not be sought after in this upcoming free agency at 14 mil. Lavonte David is playing hurt guys. I believe he still has gas in the tank left. Thank you Lavonte!!

This season reminds me of Gruden’s last year. Team started great, Garcia and Galloway lighting it up, then fell apart down the stretch culminating in losing to Jamarcus Russell in the last game.
Once it starts to unravel it just snowballs.
December 30th, 2025 at 1:15 pm
Saying the NFC South is rising may be a bit of a stretch. The likely final standings are are a 9-8 champ and 3 teams at 7-10. Atlanta is a bad spot with two okay QBs but neither is great. Carolina is certainly not great. New Orleans is improving but has cap issues.
There are plenty of reasons to make changes this offseason but the NFC South is still far from scary. Just bunch of mediocre teams, like most divisions. It shows how weak the supposedly good teams are more than anything.
December 30th, 2025 at 1:22 pm
Wow…someone said it best: We are at the bottom of the worst division in the NFL.
Let that sink in…
December 30th, 2025 at 1:58 pm
I think Joe’s summation of the division indicates that, despite all the braying about the NFC South being the worst division in football, it is, in fact, the most hotly contested among its four teams. There are no gimmes when any two of these teams compete. For some reason, maybe fan bias, many contributors here and elsewhere have a contempt for our three rivals. Thus, when the Falcons beat the Bucs by three points, it was regarded as a humiliation and the search for scapegoats was merciless. Yet, a couple weeks later, when the same Falcons beat the highly-vaunted Rams with their MVP quarterback by the same three points, no one calls the Rams garbage. Football’s a tough game because you have tough opposition. Not to respect your opponent is to insult yourself. Winning this division four consecutive times is an achievement. Yet all season many in fandom have disparaged the winning of a fifth. Now, as the team is slipping out of the race, the same voices are claiming it really was important and heads should roll.
December 30th, 2025 at 2:00 pm
I like the idea of Ronde GM. He brings a lot to the table, very intelligent and no nonsense type of guy. Lynch worked out well for SF in that position.

Glazers all about money–Bowles is cheap, but Bowles has cost them big this year. Bowles will cost more next year as the fans are gone if Bowles stays.
December 30th, 2025 at 2:50 pm
I’m just concerned that the Glazers and Licht will settle for mediocrity. Please prove me wrong and show Bowles the exit door. Cheers 🍻
December 30th, 2025 at 2:51 pm
So Joe says Bucs have the BEST QB in the division with Baker Mayfield huh?
Joe I suggest you do a side by side comparo of Shough and Mayfield , because Baker is coming up well short.
December 30th, 2025 at 3:00 pm
Canales inherited a terrible team, below avg QB and in year 2 is on the brink of winning the division.
Coen….similar scenario but definitely better QB, avg but not anything special….also going to win division in first year.
Bowles inherits a contender with the GOAT at QB….goes 8-9. In 4 yrs now we face 7-10, possibly 3rd in our division. The standard has declined since Arians left. Common denominator is Bowles….hes not a good HC.
Change is coming….i have zero doubt. Everyone keeps saying if we win or make the NFC championship that might save him….that would require winning 4 in a row….we’ve needed ONE win for the last 4 weeks against losing teams. Bowles can’t win 4 in a row against winning teams….thats not happening.
December 30th, 2025 at 3:25 pm
BA F’d us over big time by anointing this turd as his successor.
December 30th, 2025 at 3:43 pm
The arrow is pointing up for everyone but our Bucs, that’s for sure.
I know we have enough talent on offense. Injuries have killed this unit.
But Joe(s) are you kidding me with talent on this defense? We start a bunch of JAGs – that stands for just another guy. No alpha pass rusher. Our best DL (Vea) plays half the snaps. Kancey is good but can’t stay on field. Everyone else are JAGs. YaYa can’t finish. The others make a splash play here and there. BLAH, BLAH, BLAH. No talent at LB and I have mad respect for Lavonte. Tykee is a player. Not sure what to make of AW. For someone who got paid, he makes way too many mistakes. Parrish has a chance to be a good pro. Dean is overpaid and dont even get me started on ZM. This side of the ball needs a complete overhaul.
And I am so sick of hearing Bowles post-game talk about how his defense is so close but is making communication errors, or just need to focus on this detail or that detail… this is after OTAs, training camp and 16 weeks of games.
No talent (on defense) plus bad coaching= the bed Bucs made.
December 30th, 2025 at 3:44 pm
And Bucs have to be the worst tackling team in NFL.
December 30th, 2025 at 4:08 pm
And it was refreshing as a football fan to see the Falcons get after Stafford last night repeatedly. Again and again. Only thing that slowed them was an injury to one of the best defensive players for ATL. Our galling, incredible, inexplicable inability to put any pressure on the QB consistently did more to unglue this defense and, by extension, this team than anything. Any QB who is good enough to make an NFL roster is good enough to roast you if they have 5 seconds in the pocket before passing.
December 30th, 2025 at 4:08 pm
Come on JOE you know by now the glazers have always kept a tight lip. They or licht could have come out and said so many things over the years but never do. Like you said Joe when you think you know what they are thinking the throw a curve ball at ya. lol. Them being quite means nothing but yet every thing at the same time
December 30th, 2025 at 4:13 pm
Bowles will work out a settlement with the Glazers and retire. It’ll save him the embarrassment of being fired.
Personally, I’m not against a Gruden return. He’s not the same man he was 25 years ago — older, more mature, and definitely humbled. Coach only with no personnel responsibility.
He’d immediately energize the locker room, can run an offense, and is plugged into a huge coaching network.
Even if he flames out after two years, he’s better than taking a flyer on a young co-ordinater.
December 30th, 2025 at 4:14 pm
I really feel if Liam Coen is our head coach and play caller, their record is 13-3 or 14-2 even with the injuries. Play calling and no head coaching instincts or management of time has absolutely killed the Bucs this year!
