It’s Official: The Todd Bowles Defense Is Broken

A miserable Saints offense entered today’s game averaging 12.9 points over its last seven games.
Today, they hung 24 on the Bucs without any kind of miracle play or flukish drive — in Tampa.
Joe’s got no excuse for today’s defensive performance.
The Bucs couldn’t contain rookie quarterback Tyler Shough’s scrambling and Shough had too many easy completions. The Saints ran ok without him. What’s happened to the once mighty Bucs run defense?
Kudos to Chris Braswell for his sack, but the Bucs’ edge rush was impotent. And why wasn’t Braswell on the field more after he had the hot sack hand? The Saints started a backup right tackle. Haason Reddick made the guy look special.
Lavonte David looked like a shell of himself. SirVocea Dennis got hurt and the Bucs, as they do every week, were showcasing too much soft coverage. Deion Jones? Catch the damn ball!
The slimy Saints scored two red-zone zone touchdowns in three tries.
The Bucs needed to get off the field late … they let the Saints run nine plays. The Saints!
Bucco Bruce Arians talked this week on The Rich Eisen Show about how sometimes a coach’s message and effectiveness gets tuned out over time. He was referring to Mike Tomlin with the Steelers. Joe will note that Todd Bowles is in Year 7 of running the Bucs defense.

The defense gave up 260 yards, and forced a TO and had 3 sacks.
Meanwhile the Bucs offense was repeatedly stopped on 4th and short, and had a huge turnover on the Bucs side of the field, and kept giving the Saints a short field to play on.

Where is the headline blasting Baker for his awful QB play going on 2 months now? I’ve actually defended Baker for much of the season, with injuries, some bad offensive play calling – but today he has the ball, 2 minutes left, chance to win the game, and he reverts back into the pumpkin he was before he got here.
The team was built to win on offense, and putting up 20 points at home vs a bad team is not good enough. Baker was put in a position to win the game, and he failed. That is the headline.
If Baker doesn’t snap out of it, then the team has no chance.

The defensive short middle of the field is always clear of bucs defenders, maybe this is good when you have the lead defending the boundaries, not when you need to get off the field trailing. A weak pass rush and open receivers in short middle…you can’t get the stops.

I went to my first Bucs game in a couple of years. I live on the east coast of FLA. this team is playing uninspired in all phases. Unbelievable with the playoffs on the line. I finally agree. Todd has to go.

The problem with the Buccaneers starts with the GM. The GM needed to pull the trigger for a pure pass rusher like Myles Garret! You pair that beast with Vita Vea and is complete chaos for the opposing QB. I’m not a Buccaneers fan, but I like Baker style of play. The GM dropped the ball again by resigning damage goods Godwin, plus Evans and his bad old hamstrings. As for Todd he’s a great DC, but a bad HC and that new OC Tampa has now doesn’t have creativity. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers should’ve promoted Dave Canales as HC and let him bring his own staff. The Carolina Panthers are winning the NFC South as much as I root for Baker Mayfield and I would like him to win NOT the south, but a Super Bowl with the Buccaneers.
