ESPN: If Bucs Win NFC South, They Can Be Dangerous In Playoffs

December 30th, 2025

There is still hope.

While most Bucs fans appear resigned to shovel dirt in the Bucs’ faces this week, thinking the 2025 season comes to an end at The Licht House on Saturday, one prominent national NFL scribe is thinking the opposite.

The Bucs (and slimy Saints) have to win this weekend for the Bucs to win the NFC South and host a playoff game.

While many Bucs fans scoff at this, one guy who is not is Dan Graziano of ESPN. He is of the mind the Bucs are a very dangerous team that, if they get their act together, could still do damage in the playoffs.

The Bucs have won only one game since Halloween, but prior to this slide they beat Houston in September, along with Seattle and San Francisco in October. There are still a lot of good players on the Bucs. Would it be shocking if they figured some things out, beat Carolina next week and knocked off one of those NFC West teams in the first round of the playoffs? Strange things happen all the time in this league.

Well, if the Bucs host the Rams, Joe’s laying cash and points on the Rams. Sean McVay has often had his way with Todd Bowles’ defenses. And if Quinn Ewers can handle the Bucs’ defense, so too can Matt Stafford.

Oh, yeah, when the Bucs traveled to Los Angeles to face the Rams, Los Angeles crushed them 34-7 and it wasn’t that close. Matt Stafford got all bent out of shape at McVay on the sidelines because McVay called off the dogs.

And Graziano is right: The Bucs beat the Seahawks (on the road) and 49ers (at home) without Mike Evans and mostly without Chris Godwin (he couldn’t finish the Seattle game and missed San Francisco).

How wild would that be if the Bucs finally shook off their funk in the playoffs after they damn near threw the season away?

Possible, but unlikely. Everything that’s gotten this team in this situation isn’t just going to magically remedy itself with a playoff berth.

  8. Jbeachbuc Says:

Watch them win and not make the playoffs, that would be a fitting end to this circus.

  9. Sheen Says:

    ROTFLMAO

  10. Itzok Says:

Lol, damage to the league? Damage to ratings when they are losing 35 nothing in the second quarter, further damage by letting bowles coach another game

Id bet my house the only thing they damage is setting this franchise back to the creamsicle days

  11. Dom Says:

Lmao they are only a danger to themselves

  12. LVMYBUCS Says:

    Stupid comment

  13. Alanbucsfan Says:

The perfect end to this season would be Bucs beat Panthers, Falcons beat Saints, and Panthers make playoffs.
I wouldn’t count on either happening- Saints are much improved and Shough is the real deal and Panthers’ D is much better than Bucs.

NO intelligent person is buying that garbage…
Like the Bucs are suddenly going to snap out of some funk and play like contenders… Like they haven’t been playing nonchalant for the past 8 games…
IF one is PAID to hype up a team, make it one that is believable… GEEEE!!!

  20. Ballwasher61 Says:

The difference between possible and probable. That the Bucs have to rely on a team they didn’t beat to have the division with a losing record? Just from a pride stand point I say no thanks, we didn’t really earn it. Would love to see them get hot and run the table, certainly, but they’re not. Now that I said that prove me wrong. Would love it. Probable? No . Possible? MEH

  21. Bee Says:

Why not choose to be dangerous during every game after the bye? Lol…

  22. Panthers Suck Says:

    Is this a joke?

  23. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

I have to admit…if the Bucs make the playoffs and make it to 2-3 wins, the fan reaction would be hilarious.

If they make the NFC Championship game, there is no way Bowles would be fired.

People would be jumping off the Skyway.

It won’t happen, but man, that would be funny.

  24. Conte Piscatelli Says:

LMAO I just spit my coffee across the table. WTF? Obviously someone doesn’t watch Bucs games.

  25. HC Grover Says:

They will lose to Panters. Bowzo needs 7=10 to make up for his 10=7 year.

  26. adam from ny Says:

please joe let it ride 🙂

  27. Told You Says:

Per Jenna Laine, the Bucs will be giving out 13,000 Mike Evans bobbleheads for Saturday’s game against Carolina as “a tribute to his legendary career and commitment to Tampa Bay.” Sounds like it might be the end.

  28. SB~LV Says:

The franchise is in need of changing EVERY SINGLE THING EXCEPT the

  31. adam from ny Says:

we need to poach a player or two from that great houston defense…if possible…

also they started out 0-3…they are a very good football team

  32. Goodbye Todd Says:

    Picture this.

Bucs win this weekend, saints win. Somehow win 2 games and get to the NFCCG. I give it a 1% chance. But it certainly would blow my mind and irritate me. With that being said

We cannot keep giving this dude chance after chance, year after year. It is okay if it doesnt work out for him. We can hire Brian Flores, Marcus Freeman, Sherrone moore, Mike Tomlin if theres a certain characteristic thats the reason yall are defending bowles. If not then I would say Kubiak, Monken, Belichick, McCarthy, Kliff Kingsbury etc.

  33. Patrick Says:

Mike McCarthy should get some consideration IMO. We course know about his time in Green Bay but I think his time in Dallas doesn’t get enough attention. He had three straight 12 win seasons while having to work with the ego of Jerry Jones. His playoff record is right at .500, but that’s still better than Bowles. He’s a veteran offensive minded coach and has worked in the past with Favre, Rodgers and Prescott. Might be the guy to get the locker room motivated again

  34. View from 132 Says:

Stop letting fantasy football fans write NFL analysis. “This team has wide receivers – they must be good” PFFTT.

  35. Macout247 Says:

  36. David Says:

Fire Bowles, Griz, and ST coach immediately after they lose

  37. oz len Says:

You do know that the Panthers, because of the Atlanta win last night can lose to Bucs and still win the division if Atlanta beats New Orleans next week. Something that seems very doable.

  38. Aqualung Says:

    BWAAAAHAAAAHAHAHAAAAHAHAAAAHAHAAAAAAaaaaarrrggghhhh…………….

  39. BucfanDMV Says:

This is what we are talking about please cut it out with this!!! The team isn’t good if you have watched them the second half of the season. These story lines are why people can’t see bucs for what they are. The bucs are NOT a good team !!!!

  40. Allen Lofton Says:

Joe, it ain’t happening. The Bucs aren’t a playoff team. Too many injuries on the offensive side and slow developing players on the defensive side.

The Bucs are what we are witnessing. They remind us of the old Jamie’s Winston days. Stop the madness 😠

  41. SB~LV Says:

    What would
Steve Duemig and Chris Thomas say?

  42. ocala Says:

Fire Bowles needs to be every comment.

  43. D-Mac Says:

  51. Stpetematt Says:

Without both guards and a nicked up left tackle it’s going to be hard to beat anyone. Any team that has Dan Feeney playing is toast.

  52. Jeff Says:

    lol! Ok! Bahahahajaa!

  53. simeon97 Says:

Backs against the wall and know it very well could be over. Maybe they play loose this weekend, take more risks, and win handily, giving them some much needed confidence going into the playoffs. Never mind, this is way too optimistic. The most concerning thing to me is the rick straud reporting on how bowles has given up on special teams. The messaging by coaching is just terrible.

  54. Rob Says:

“If Bucs win NFC south, they can be dangerous in the playoffs”.
    Said absolutely NO ONE EVER!

Mike Evans should go to Houston? How about J Ville, reunite with Coen? Mike will have options. He should go chase a ring. He won’t be winning another one here.

  57. Bucs OG 76 Says:

LOL! We’ve been waiting for the turn around every week now since the bye. There’s no magic switch to turn us back into the Seattle-slaying, San Fran-slamming, Texan-takedown team we were ages ago. Even if we win Saturday, a fitting conclusion would be to have the Dirty Birds also win and eliminate us on the tiebreakers.

  58. Colonel Angus Says:

  59. AlstottNumber1 Says:

Some people are just gluttons for punishment.

Like Tina Turner saying, “Hit me again Ike, and this time put some stank on it!”

I live in St Louis Missouri. Our hockey team is the Blues. We had never won a Stanley Cup until the 2018-2019 season.

We entered 2019 with the worst record in the NHL. Fired the head coach. And brought up a rookie goalie named Jordan Binnington.

But the most important thing was a head coach named Craig Berube.

No longer were the players being pampered and given warm hugs. He put belt to a$$ and pushed them to give their very best every game.

The result: We went on to turn the season around, make the playoffs, and win our first and only Cup.

My point: Coaching actually does matter. Anything else is just propaganda.

    BS!!!!!

    GO BUCS!!!!

  62. Chant Says:

No one wants to play a team with nothing to lose, just ask the rams last night. However by the same token, would you bet your house on the bucs to have to win a game right now? In 60 years of watching all sports, I have never seen a complete reversal and loss of confidence/mojo like the bucs this year. Like my son said last night, they were lucky to go 6-2 to start the season, they could have only had a 3 win season this year. But alas you get what you deserve. This is only a game/entertainment. My day is not ruined like many fans.

Lincoln Riley, klimt Kubiak. I like the suggestion from a fan that offered to higher a plane with a banner that says fire Todd.

  67. Drunk Bucs Fan Says:

    A mental exercise to ponder:

What would it take for you to begrudgingly accept Todd Bowles back as HC next year? Not happy to see him back, just accepting it as kind of a “I guess” thing.

For me, Superbowl loss. Mayyyybe an NFCCG loss.

Of course neither is happening. Just curious what others would think if emotions were removed

  68. Buc4ever Says:

question. If by some miracle they end up in first place, if we win over the Panthers and the Saints beat Atlanta. What then?

  69. #99 the big fella Says:

I would take Lincoln Riley all day long

  70. BucsfaninOregon Says:

Let’s get real. Last night the Falcons looked better than the Bucs earlier in the season. Their is some sort of cancer in this team. The bet now is for Tampa and Atlanta to win creating a 3 way tie. The the tie breaker puts Atlanta in the playoffs. How fitting we lose to Morris in the end.

The Glaziers are at the point of losing most of their fan base. If they don’t clean house we will be entering another decade of agony.

After watching the game last night I realized all are playing multiple new players acquired in the draft OR TRADE. Sure, now and then Licht finds a diamond in the rough like Marpet, but how many BIG misses high in the draft like JTS, Braswell, Logan Hall and others like that. And he hoards his draft picks like gold coins to spend on junk like those mentioned.
Licht is then very prone to keep his mistakes instead of cutting them and move on. No, he keeps JTS and Braswell for the length of their rookie contract and then silently lets them go (watch Braswell’s future).
If I can see this, certainly the Glaziers must see it. Now hey need to act on it.

  73. Patrick Says:

The Seahawks went 7-9 in 2010, won their division and won a playoff game. It’s happened before.

With the way the NFL has been this year, nothing would surprise me. Who saw the Falcons jumping out to a 21-0 lead over the Rams last night? Absolutely no one. Not only has this been nightmare/strange as hell season for the Bucs, it’s been probably been the strangest season league wide that I can remember. Another shocker was seeing how bad the Chiefs were

  74. KnuteR Says:

This is hilarious at its best. If they are talking about 49ers, I will believe that not the Bucs. Football is a team sports and it will be depended on three phases of the team, Bucs has none of that. 49ers defense is a little bit leaked but they are acceptable and the offense will cover them for deficiency. Bucs defense has none of that. The Bucs offense can not score much points to help the defense. What kind of dangerous is that. Bucs can not even beat a third string quarterback.

  75. Ham Samwyche Says:

Horrible take by whoever it was. Did you see Atlanta last night? They looked good…and that defense was swarming…although they did give up 28? points. They may very well beat the Saints on Sunday and that closes the door on the Bucs regardless if we beat Carolina. At least we’ll know by 7:30pm on Saturday one way or the other. I think back to those first 6 games and how last drive Baker heroics got us a victory…3 point margins. We could easily be a 3 or 4 win team this season. Time to clean house. Go Bucs!

  93. Rod Munch Says:

Before the Panthers played the Rams – I said the Panthers would beat the Rams AND then lose to Saints. I then said the Panthers would beat the Bucs AND then lose to the Saints again AND then lose to the Seahawks.

With my track record on the line, I’m saying the lock of the year is the Falcons falling flat on their face and losing to the Saints. With ‘youngry’ teams like the Panthers and Falcons, that is what they do, they win big games and ALWAYS follow it up by losing to a ‘lessor’ team. Although it is worth noting the Saints are playing the best football in the NFC South right now.

As for the Bucs vs Panthers… who knows. It 100% depends on Baker. If he’s the garbage player he’s been for the last 2+ months, then the Bucs lose. But if he finally decides to show-up, the Bucs could breeze to a victory and then, if Baker is hot, they will be a team no one wants to face. The good side of an inconsistent QB like Baker is that they can heat up real fast – he will of course burn out real fast as well, but if he got hot this week, that run could get you deep into the playoffs before he flamed out again.

  94. Chuckys Bucs Says:

Rod you’re on here from sunrise to midnight typing the same thing. Did you see my munch report this week? Next week will look awfully similar. Here it is if you missed it:

    Rod Munch Says:

Baker has now single handedly lost 4 games in a row with 1st place in the division on the line. FOUR!

    Rod Munch Says:
    December 28th, 2025 at 5:01 pm
How about a QB that doesn’t single handedly lose you four games in a row, that would help.

    Rod Munch Says:
    December 28th, 2025 at 4:34 pm
Baker has literally single handedly lost 4 games in a row.

    Rod Munch Says:
    December 28th, 2025 at 5:20 pm
I’m telling you, if players ripped into Baker for loses these games, it would be by far the best thing for the team

    Rod Munch Says:
    December 28th, 2025 at 11:15 pm
Remember this: If Baker isn’t complete inept and terrible these last four games, the Bucs literally win all four of them.

    Rod Munch Says:
    December 29th, 2025 at 12:04 am
If the Bucs win next week, and the Rams win out, then the Bucs will face the Rams again.
If that happens, I wonder if Baker will fake another injury when he’s thrown for 13 yards and 2 INTs in the first half of the game?

    Rod Munch Says:
    December 29th, 2025 at 12:21 am
Baker, most of the day, had plenty of time. His two INTs were terrible, and had nothing to do with pressure.

Hahaha that’s the funny one it must are forgetting it’s a team sport and it’s just as much as the players fault as it is the coaches. Let’s be real here. Something happened after the lions game. Bucs were killing it. Same coaches and players shoot even got some better plays back. Scheme and coaching don’t just go out the window. Something’s up. Richard Sherman said it and Joe prob knows. We find out 10 years later of course or the NFL is just rigged. Also let’s not forget how these dam refs have given us the worst calls just about every game

I’m wondering if maybe Evans & Lavonte might have told them that they might be considering retiring at the end of the year & maybe that really took alot out of the team.
