Did Chris Braswell Earn A Start?

December 10th, 2025

Second-year Bucs edge rusher Chris Braswell doesn’t play a lot, even a little less than he did in his rookie year.

Can he be impactful? Is he developing as a defensive player? Joe’s not sure.

What Joe does know is Braswell got his first sack of the season Sunday and seemed a little more active than usual. Still, even with edge rusher bust Haason Reddick getting hurt in the game, Braswell didn’t get a lot of playing time — 31 percent of the defensive snaps.

What happened to rolling with the hot hand?

Todd Bowles had high praise for Braswell on the Buccaneers Radio Network.

“Braz played one of the toughest games up there. He really came off the ball this game,” Bowles said. “He was very physical with the offensive linemen and he was in the backfield most of the time when he was in there.”

Ok. If Braswell really had that kind of game, then start him tomorrow against the Falcons.

What is there to lose from the Bucs’ pass rush? Give Sunday’s spark a chance to turn into something bigger on a national stage.

The Bucs just signed Jason Pierre-Paul off the street to find some juice and energy. Let JPP hype up Braswell before the game and see what happens with the kid getting his first NFL start.

The Bucs made a desperation move signing JPP. Joe would be pleased to see what’s probably less of a reach to improve the pass rush.

what a bust, this dude has been like Casper the ghost his whole career.
Really bad draft pick by the crew.

  2. Jack Sparrow Says:

Bucs has now become a clown team. Headed by a clown master Todd Bowles.

  3. Love-spiral Says:

    Better late than never

Let’s go Braswell! Shocked the world

  4. SB~LV Says:

    Hot hand
    Or
    Blind squirrel?
I will trust the coaches to make this decision, they have the film to see how he actually performs

  5. zzbucs Says:

With all due respect, if Braswell earn a start position, is clearly a description of the lack of talent on this roster.
With all due respect, subpar players can get hot. Once upon a time 10 years ago, Bucs cornerback Sterling Moore shut down Dez Bryant, Julio Jones and Odell Beckham, Jr. in consecutive weeks. –Joe

When you have a season like this one, is not ONLY on the Coach, as the vast majority says, is a combination of, coaching, execution, mediocre roster, and let me add you this….LACK OF EFFORT!!!!

Why do you think JPP is here??????????

  6. Lokog Says:

I was shocked he got one sack after how many snaps bigger bust than mark barron

  7. Warren Brooks Lynch Says:

LOL, no maybe he can keep his reps, but no

  8. ChattBucsFan Says:

If we’re trying to find hope in Braswell, then all hope is lost.

  9. FootBall1 Says:

Hey Joe, I agree, let him start, why not. Reddick is hurt anyway. Maybe Braswell is hungry and wants to show he belongs. Yes things need to be shaken up. Yes , like a broken record the same for McColumn, sit him. Put Parrish on the outside, Izien in the slot, can’t hurt. The middle of the field and Mc Colum’s side of the field can’t be any more wide open than they are. However, please don’t pull Dean to put in Morrison!!, my gosh, take the best corner off the field ?. If anything, sure pull McColumn and give Morrison a few plays, anything, just get McColumn off the field at this point. McColumn is a huge, huge libility.

  10. Jack Burton Mercer Says:

Bustwell can’t be any worse than the other guys in there. If you play him in place of Disappeary, will anyone notice?

    @Joe…

Joe says…….”With all due respect, subpar players can get hot. Once upon a time 10 years ago, Bucs cornerback Sterling Moore shut down Dez Bryant, Julio Jones and Odell Beckham, Jr. in consecutive weeks.” –Joe

Seriously that’s your argument? One player long time ago?

I can name hundreds of sub par players that ended like subpar players…

But that’s not what I am trying to say…

My point is that everybody is responsible of this season, PLAYERS COACHES and the GM!!!!!! Yes the GM too, Joseph…….

  12. Nutterbuccer Says:

Stop dropping him into coverage and let him rush the passer not gonna know what we halve if he doesnt get a chancellor. Should be on on all passing downs

  13. Warren Brooks Lynch Says:

    “Bustwell”

[PAUSE], Jack Burton you gotta relaaaaax 🤣🤣🤣

  14. Deeboooo Says:

I don’t understand how ppl can call Braswell a bust with the lack of play time he’s had.

Sure if he played most snaps every game and had this production. 100% a bust.

He doesn’t get consistent play time in my opinion to get caught up to the speed of the game.x he also has really no one to learn from on the defense. I think I’m done thinking LVD does anything to teach or motivate younger players, he’s always been a quiet guy. And that’s not to discredit LVD, I know he try’s to mentor – I just don’t think it’s his thing

  15. Eckwood Says:

AGAIN !! he has been in the NFL for two years and is two years older !! He and the bucs just don’t pass the Strength and body development test !! I believe the team would be better off having Luke and T Wirfs head up the strength portion of the program………. He just isn’t the amazing twitch athlete that the guy from Penn State carter or the Tennessee defensive end are.. He is a good athlete but he has to get up to speed of NFL strength just like Hail and they just simply have not gained 30 %strength like they Must in an NFL program…… I mean you can see it. They use some good technique. They use their best quickness and they just don’t have the core strength to compete with the offensive lineman . Again they are not the elite of the elite athletes. They’re very good but they’re not elite……… elite strength is not athleticism. It’s work !!

  16. Regulator16 Says:

Just so we can send him out in coverage and not rush the passer?

    ——

Or an indictment of the ability of the DC to evaluate talent.

  18. OneAndThree Says:

I’m sure Braswell is going to shock us all.

Especially when he drops back into coverage versus a WR.

The pure genius we get to enjoy on a weekly basis is astounding.

JL has gifted us all with three more years after 2025 of the Superbowl caliber championship defensive scheme of Todd Bowles.

The rest of the NFL is green with envy.

  19. pelbuc Says:

Another GM Licht gem! Dude is another unmotivated bust on defense. Move on!

  20. 813bucboi Says:

    Bustwell!!!!!!😂🤣🤣

    that was classic lol!!!!!!

start roberts at DE on 1st and 2nd down and slid him inside on 3rd down….that kid HAS to stay on the field….

let bustwell continue to rotate until he becomes consistent

    GO BUCS!!!!!

  21. Obvious Says:

What do we have to lose?

Put him out there and tell him to go get the qb. No one else is.

  22. Jack Sparrow Says:

Kirk Cousin will have another breaking record game.!!! Bucs is a joke both offense and defense

  23. zzbucs Says:

    @DailyRich

DailyRich says “Or an indictment of the ability of the DC to evaluate talent”

That certainly can be true Sir, or could also be the indictment of the ability of the GM to draft talent at that specific position”

  24. Mike Johnson Says:

I heard Breasswells name mentioned for the 1st time on the field since he’s been a Buc last game. Dudes a Bust.

  25. ChiBuc Says:

I really can’t judge Braswell when I consider the litany of good ball players Bowles has broken. JTS is on Licht, but an aware and competent DC would have reigned in D White early and molded him to a productive player for years and wtf has Bowles done to AWJ. Don’t look now but his magic, err voodoo, is working it’s way on Parrish and before you know it, Tykee will become a quitter.

  26. Ricardo Says:

Dang what happened to this dude? I just looked at highlights from him at Alabama and he was a monster. I get it this is the pros and all that but Alabama is top-tier competition. The drop off in play is staggering.

  27. Mobucs Says:

His narrative at Bama was that he did nothing for three years, the light went on, and he was a monster in his last year. Please, somebody, find the switch!

  28. Coconut Doughnut Says:

Braswell does not swarm to the ball, or run much…

  29. It's Corn Says:

Who knew what the world would be shocked about was Braswell got one sack.

  30. Rod Munch Says:

Braswell can at least break a 5.2 40, unlike Nelson, and when you ask your DE’s to player corner, having speed is important.

  31. Kayla Says:

The Falcons 21 and 22 year old rookie edge rushers have 6 & 5 sacks so far this season both coming off the bench (Floyd and Ebiketie are the starters). They believe they have two double-digit sackers in the making for years to come. And we have for the future…?

  32. Saskbucs Says:

Just one more reason Bowles needs to be shown the door. Don’t want fans calling for your head, knock off the coach speak and actually put your money where your mouth is talking about “hot hands”.

Bucs are sucking and nothing changes. Braswell gets a sack, hardly plays. Tucker and White are running well, back to Bucky.

We have potentially hurt, inaccurate, 5’11 Baker back there but by all means stick with Tez and Shep to get the pass game going. 6’2 Ryan Miller, 6’4 Culp can’t get any reps!? Zyon should have been benched, probably multiple others to send a message but status quo Bowles leading the charge same as always.

If these other guys can’t get it done, why isn’t there deadline moves for better depth pieces you feel comfy playing. Ryan Miller wasn’t gonna quit on that route over the middle like Kam Johnson did leading to an INT. Ridiculous what’s been happening the last month.

  33. dmatt Says:

WAKE UP FOLKS! Don let that one sack he had fool you. This guy is a fluke. He’s another JTS n Logan Hall. I’d rather roll with JPP who’s the type of player that’ll fight till he blow something up.

  34. Ben Says:

Braswell was a bust for sure, but Kneeland went before him and he isn’t alive anymore, RIP. So gard to know how these guys will pan out. I think this was the Verse draft, would have prob tried to go up and get him over Barton. Frazier was there in the 2nd and is a much better C

  35. BigZ Says:

Comeback player of the year for Braswell, one sack.
    Greatness appears early and often.
Usually, sub-par players rarely play because they had their chance. Thus, they are sub-par.
There was a reason he didn’t play much at Bama.
