Patriots Looked Hungrier Than The Bucs

November 9th, 2025

Anyone walk out of The Licht House today or turn off the TV and think the Bucs were the hungrier, more physical and faster team on the field?

Joe sure didn’t get that vibe.

Over and over last week, Joe heard about Bucs players lauding how their team was flying around in practice, feeling the juice injection of a bye week. That didn’t show up enough today.

Absolutely the Bucs made strong individual plays on defense, but collectively they didn’t have it.

The Patriots averaged 17 yards a catch and 6 yards per carry. Joe hasn’t seen those kinds of numbers from a Bucs defense in a long play.

Cornerbacks were a step slow. Lavonte David isn’t the player he used to be. And Joe saw multiple loafs on defense, which Joe will detail later this week.

Joe’s not going to throw a bunch of shade on the Bucs offense — because Joe’s not sure the Bucs enough pass catchers had the skills to get open consistently against the Patriots strong pass defense. And that’s why Joe was chirping for the Bucs to trade for a receiver at Tuesday’s NFL deadline.

The Bucs are going to need to find their fire in Buffalo next Sunday — against an angry Bills team that just got rolled in Miami.

on some levels, they sleepwalked out of the bye

  2. Regulator16 Says:

Jordyn Brooks was there…so glad we kept our picks!

  3. Whatevs Says:

    Ya think?

    Sleepy Todd strikes again.

At least he keep smiling through all of the defensive breakdowns

  4. Marcus Says:

I feel that way every time I see Todd Bowels. Does he have ANY emotions besides 😑?

  5. Rod stewart Says:

Out coached plain and simple. Great game though. I wasn’t impressed by Maye at all but he got the W on the road.

  6. Whatevs Says:

Does Todd know what is going on? Seriously, I think he has dementia.

  7. #99 the big fella Says:

Grizz sucks. Wtf with all the short passes? We are so predictable

  8. Miller5252 Says:

This could get really bad for the Bucs. They’re playing with no passion and heart at all. Everyone is saying Baker is hurt, he sure isn’t playing like leader he was which is bad for the Bucs. OC is having a horrible time calling plays and not using guys. They need a big change here or they’re gonna lose more than just the next 2 games. It’s not looking good

  9. firethecannons Says:

    Baker does not run anymore

  10. ModHairKen Says:

Bad time to play the Patriots. They had some injuries too. But maybe they were better prepared. A handful of plays made the difference. The Bucs got those in other games. Not today.

Will be interesting to hear about the loading.

Yes, David is no longer elite. And he used to be able to cover for others Les talented. Now he cannot.

McCollum is just not good. Morrison looks confused.

But a lot of good plays and a lot of missed opportunities.

  11. Bucs Reality Check Says:

    Grizzard is terrible.

We had a great chance to win and he can’t draw up plays to get 3 yards. Having Baker take a deep drop on 4th and 3 is DUMB. Need quick passes and creative plays.

  12. LJ Says:

After the next bye, don’t fly straight from the Atlantis pool bar to the Stadium, I suggest as a starter

  13. 813bucboi Says:

Grizz was trash after his scripted opening drive and he abandoned the run again….

White and tucker ran well against their front but grizz didn’t stick to it

Grizz is in over his head

lack of offense cost us today

    GO BUCS

  14. TheBucsAnthem Says:

Grizzard is not an NFL OC

    He sucks

    Playcalling was garbage

  15. Bucamania Says:

Baker looks confused every time he drops back. Why isn’t he scrambling anymore?

  16. GenocideD Says:

Defense bent, bent, bent, then broke. …several x today. Even with Nelson’s superior drop back and coverage skills.

  17. 813bucboi Says:

    White and tucker ran well…

    Grizz didn’t stick to it

No offense after the opening drive

    Grizz is a liability

    GO BUCS

  18. Mhystc Says:

Grizz is terrible, horrible game plan by him. Also Zyon was getting picked on all game.

  19. StucBuc Says:

This is all on Jason Licht. No offense or defense addition. Losing streak incoming and early playoff exit. Pathetic that he did nothing. Every team that was contending added and they didn’t have major injuries. The Bucs are depleted with serious injuries and the GM does 0. Sad pathetic. This team is done

  20. MF Bucs Says:

I hope the Glazers really give a lot of thought before they give Baker $50-60 mil/yr

  21. GenocideD Says:

And that last NE td when everyone knows it’s a run…

  22. Bucamania Says:

Bucs Dline other than Vea was nonexistent. Didn’t show up.

  23. 813bucboi Says:

    Dean is playing good

    Morrison needs Zyons reps

    GO BUCS

  24. Ben the GA Buc Says:

They came out lights out on the opening drive. So we cant say they sleepwalked out. The Patriots are a solid team and we got complacent on offense. There wasn’t much creativity most of the game. We ran better against them than most teams have all year.

We wasted a bunch of opportunity on offense today. I don’t see a lot of fire in Baker’s belly like earlier in the year, he looks tired. He still played ok but MVP Mayfield appears to be on vacation. We need him back.

Defense played well enough to win if our offense took care of business.

  25. Tye Says:

Bucs defense just can’t stand up to winning teams…
Much expected ending but hoped Bucs defense would produce a better showing… UGH!

  26. SG Says:

The annual Todd Bowles Midseason slump is here. Not sure what the reason is, every midseason, the Bucs seem to loose games

  27. 813bucboi Says:

Roberts had another great game IMO….

Nelson is who we thought he was unfortunately…

    GO BUCS

  28. TheBucsAnthem Says:

The BUCS are COOKED if they keep on letting Josh Grizzard calling offensive plays…….he’s awful and in WAY over his head

  29. capnhowdy Says:

Jakobi Myers was had for a 4th and 6th by el serpente. But nahhh, no way he could help with the inept 3rd down percentage right Jason Licht??

  30. 813bucboi Says:

Grizz showed 2rb set 1 time!!!!

The play got 8yards and grizz never went back to it again

    GO BUCS

  31. Bucamania Says:

    Did Maye get sacked today?

  32. BucsFan81 Says:

Looks a lot like past years. Only difference is this slump came a little later in the season. This is the typical Bowles slump. They will lose the next 2 games. Barely win the division get into the playoffs. Get Evans back and win a home playoff game only to lose in the division round. Same show different year.

  33. Jason Anthony Sturgess Says:

I blame this loss on the play not to lose Offensive Coordinator & Jason Licht for not picking up needed players. You’ve got 3rd & 3 with 2 minues left. You can’t try a run & if that is short then another short run. Mayfield is no longer a threat to run which doesn’t help. The consistant running that goes nowhere cause of that genius Todd Bowles. When is Todd Bowles going to be held responsible for his mediocre defense. Instead all I hear is Tony Romo trying to install fear in he opposition about that defensive genius Todd Bowles and what will he do next. As far as Licht he couldn’t have traded for a decent pass rusher, a receiver & another Guard. If I had coached this team today Tampa would have won. PS Goodwin because of his injuries has done nothing this season & when he comes back why should we expect anything different?

  34. QBKilla Says:

    I hope Bowles retires

  35. Durango 95 Says:

“Patriots Looked Hungrier Than The Bucs”
    ——
To be expected. Bowles never has his team prepared for big games. He’s been doing this for years. And years. And years. Been saying these things over and over and over. He’s just not a winning coach. Simple as that.

  36. PewterStiffArm Says:

The field of play sucked, again! The defensive scheme stunk and the Bills will not loose two in a row. This story has been introduced to us before.

  37. Erik with Pilot and Driverâ„¢ Says:

At this point, I fully expect us to be 6-5 in a couple weeks. And then hopefully we can turn it around at that point.

    Prove me wrong, Bucs.

  38. BucsFanFromWayBack Says:

Wow! So disappointing…Defense gives us big play after big play. Baker didn’t run at all (again) and could have picked up some yards / first downs on the ground. He also locked on to Egbuka and tried to force him the ball. Injuries are quickly derailing this season

  39. Sheen Says:

So was Bowles big eureka moment to start and allow the big play to keep em from nickel and diming us?

  40. Bucamania Says:

Patriots looked far hungrier and better coached.

Starting to get concerned about Wirfs. Looks human.

    Feeney is not playable.

  41. BucsFanFromWayBack Says:

*gives UP big play after big play

  42. BucfaninMi Says:

    6-5 looks very likely.

  43. Bejeezusbelt Says:

This pass rush is absolutely awful. You can’t find a way to put pressure on one of the most sucked quarterbacks in the league. Glad you guys got well rested. Absolutely embarrassing you gave up 3 pays off 50 plus yards, too guys that are pedestrian at absolute best. I hope this stings a little and wakes you up. Licht your offense needs a playmaker and you watched just cherishing your draft picks. If this game doesn’t flip a switch the Bucs are in trouble. Forget the last six games because the way you just got rolled by well coaches average team we might be 500 through the last six. Ugh disgusting performance.

  44. Erik with Pilot and Driverâ„¢ Says:

Morrison sucks btw. At least at this point in his career he does

  45. unbelievable Says:

It was a solid team effort at losing- everyone helped:

    – Some AWFUL 3rd down play calls all game long.
    – poor blocking by o-line
    – couple bad throws / decisions by Bakwr
    – defense giving up huge, record-breaking plays

Zyon did not deserve that fat of a contract either IMO. One decent year…

  46. John Mason Says:

This is the start of a 3 game losing streak….we all saw it coming….the offense is so undermanned….the defense needed to step up today and the got gashed for one giant play after another. Lucky for us we are in a crappy division Saints beat the Panthers to help us and the Falcons lost…but nx two weeks Panthers could gain on us. No help is coming ….Chris Godwin looks to be done for a while ..no Mike Evens…no Bucky…this offense is a shell of itself.

  47. BucsfaninOregon Says:

How many 3rd and more than 10 did Maye convert today, Joe? We can’t stop a good passing team- -we all know that. How many pressures (we like that- -TB) did they have on Maye and he completed the pass? How many sacks (we don’t need those–TB) did they have on critical downs?

We are NOT going to anything like the SB this year.

  48. Proudbucsfan Says:

I’m soooo pissed, this is where we slide

  49. Rod Munch Says:

Actually I thought the Pats looked very well nourished, maybe not as nourished as Vita, but I doubt they were hungry at any point in the game.

  50. jcscycles Says:

A month ago everyone was worried about Grizz getting hired somewhere else. Now you want him fired. Sheesh!

Coen was never staying here. He wanted to, and got paid, by the Jags owner.

And the Fire Boles crap immediately starts up Wow…

We only lost by 5 points to a really good team. And missing all but one of our starting receivers.

I’m really happy about Tez coming on with two touchdowns. Got to get him more involved.

What killed us was Mike getting injured. If he had been OK this result probably would have been different.

But the Dixie Chicks and the Stinking Panthers lost. Just have to win the division and get people back by the end of the year.

  51. Nate1976 Says:

I’ll watch baker on the third and three have Richard open in the flat for easy catch for first down the nearest man was 10 yards away and baker chose to force the ball to Otton his decision making is becoming questionable he no longer uses his legs at that point in the game with two minutes left you get the first down and give yourself four more downs

  52. Alvin Scissors Harper Says:

    6-5, here we come!

  53. Mike Johnson Says:

Pats had done their homework and scouted us well. Their defense was ready and their O line blocked Superior. Teams have broken down tape on us very good. Our D did not rise to the occasion in the 4th when we needed them. Get ready for Buffalo in Buffalo. They lost today and will be ready and pissed. Good Luck….

  54. Jbravo Says:

the usual bowels coaching under performance..wish we had jmac healthy , but hey good thing we got bridgwater instead of a impact player for 2nd half of season..

  55. Jbravo Says:

vrable took mr no emotion , no clue bowels to the woodshed..next week the bills gonna spank him..fans deserve better

  56. Ufc e Says:

Josh grizzard sucks. Play and simple. He does not understand offensive rhythm and is awful on any short yardage play
Baker is not playing well. Im going to say it. He needs to stop holding the fing ball too long and get the ball out on time. Thats what Coen did last year. We aren’t doing it.
Defensively zyon is a deep liability. U can not fing give up those plays. Play the gd ball bro. Im tired of u staring and not using your hands at all. This team better wake up or we will lose another two in a row.

  57. SBucs Says:

Todd’s record out of a bye is 1-3.

  58. BelleGladeBuc Says:

You can’t win in today’s NFL without pass rushers. Our pass rush from our front is atrocious.

  59. Buc2Blame Says:

The guy in the Pic is trash. As always the Bucs pay these bums and right after they crap the bed. Jason licht should trade picks. Not like many pan out.

  60. LANshark Says:

It does not help that there were more Patriots fans in the stands than Buc’s fans in a “home game”. People who live in the Tampa Bay area should be ashamed of the poor support this team gets.

  61. bob in valrico Says:

I said much the same thing as Nate in the ingame thread. Some of Grizzard and Baker decisions stymied the offense at times. Kind of miss Arians who was never shy about pointing out that Evans was open. His input would probably help both Grizzard and Baker at this point , cause we have some missing pieces on offense
and we have to adjust and get the ball to open targets , instead of forcing it to doubled covered players.

  62. Jim Hennessey Says:

I hope those draft picks you didn’t trade are worth the next 3 or 4 losses you are about to experience. Licht is overrated.

  63. Davenport Says:

    COACHING

  64. Saskbucs Says:

They didn’t sleepwalk. The first series was great, guys looked dialed in and then I think they thought well we came out fast and thought they could coast. Newsflash fellas.

We were running the ball decently well. If Tez and Shepard are too small to get it done consistently then get some bigger physical bodies out there in Miller and Culp. Baker didn’t go to Otton nearly enough early. Otton could have been 12 for 120 if Baker wasn’t tunnel vision on Egbuka after that first drive.

Just not smart football for the most part.

  65. NYbucsfan Says:

    Toilet bowl returns.
