ESPN: Bucs Hope Chris Godwin Is Available For The “Stretch Run”

November 13th, 2025

Vague update.

OK, let’s start this chilly Thursday morning off with some semantics hopscotch, shall we?

Jeremy Fowler of ESPN has a pretty good source inside the walls at One Buc Palace because his Bucs intel is usually right on.

In a recent missive of rumors and whispers heard around the NFL, Fowler noted he finds the Bucs’ curious protection of Chris Godwin intel to be a mystery. However, the information Fowler was able to lift from his source was about as vague as vague could be.

The Bucs are hopeful Chris Godwin Jr. (fibula) will be ready for the stretch run, ensuring he has no setbacks. He won’t play this week. There’s some level of mystery surrounding this one, but the team is being careful with him and will see how he responds over the next few weeks.

Yup, there’s that word “hope” again. Joe also hopes to win the Mega Millions lottery tomorrow night. In lieu of striking out there, Joe hopes Rachel Watson comes knocking on his door (naturally, the odds of an unannounced visit from Rachel skyrocket if Joe hits the Mega Millions). And Joe hopes she brings along a corked bottle of Barrell King Knighted bourbon.

Then, Joe hopes the dishes were done so there will be a fresh tumbler to pour the Barrell King Knighted over the rocks. Then Joe hopes Rachel ordered Uber Eats.

Yesterday, Bucs coach Todd Bowles was pressed to come clean about Godwin. He swore if he knew more, he’d offer more information. You know, the ol’ Sgt. Schultz trick.

“It’s the fibula,” Bowles said. “He’s working his way back. He’s making good strides and we’ll continue to work with him and see how he goes. …

“He’s running, yes. He’s definitely running. … I wish I could tell you [if it is a pain tolerance issue]. I really do.”

Alas, Joe hopes the Bucs aren’t banking too much on hope because hope can bite you in the arse.

Also, what is a “stretch run?” Joe guesses the last few weeks of the season. That’s strictly a guess.

Its the Hope that kills you

  2. I Remember 21 Says:

It’s the fibula. What is the issue with the fibula todd? What caused the fibula issue todd?

I’d trust a magic 8 ball before I would trust anyone on the Bucs talking injury news.

  3. Warrenfb12 Says:

He didn’t even really look good when he came back last time. Is more time off going to help?

  4. Bee Says:

He should’ve taken the season off to fully heal. Why rush to come back when you’re not 100%?

  5. Gofortheface30 Says:

Read between the lines, I’m completely bemused, incredulous to this intel because it’s purposely vague. All businesses, including NGL teams care about OPTICS. Eventually the truth will come out by sayyy game 17 when Chris Godwin is completely ineffective and/unavailable, but OF COURSE they’re dragging g their feet hanging on to the small chance that he will be back and a pro bowl receiver they signed him to be. The Bucs rolled the dice, and they’re crapping out. This is what it is, we can try to pretend it isn’t, but it is – and for now they’re DOUBLING DOWN by taking up a roster spot because they’re on the hook and they made their choice. They’ll try to redo his contract in the offseason with the team in general looking pretty different in 2026, but for now Grizzard and everyone else needs to work with what they have and be better

  6. TDTB Says:

Why aren’t the Bucs giving Culp reps at WR?

  7. Kenton Smith Says:

Joe, that’s a classic fantasy you’ve woven about hope. But I fear you’ve cheapened the power of hope when in some of our minds hope springs eternal. “Joe hopes he did the dishes” is funnier than hell. Hehehehe! At least you’ll keep your fingernails clean.

  8. BucU Says:

I’m pretty much over the Godwin situation. He’ll be nothing more than just another body IF IF IF he does come back before we all pass away from old age.
What we do need is Bucky back in the worst way. I don’t believe he’ll be back either until after the LA game if he comes back at all. These are the cards were dealt this year. I suggest you adjust your expectations of this team for the rest of the year.

  9. Jeff and Jack's grandpa Says:

No wonder he didn’t take the bigger contract with Pats

100%. The resigning of Chris to a huge contract AFTER his 2nd major injury has backfired spectacularly.

  11. dmatt Says:

    TDTB,
I agree, why aren’t the Bucs giving Devin Culp reps. He’s 6’4, runs a 4.4 forty n was once a high school champion in the high jump and vertical leap is 35 inches. Great coaches will get creative to maximize a players skill set, talent, n versatility. Put him at wr n let him fly to open up space for TJohnson and Emeka, n how bout sitting Sterling n give Garret Green a try. We have the players but not the coaching.

  12. heyjude Says:

He should have waited to come back toward the end of the season. It was too early. This was a bad injury and it was done by a dirty player. These guys want to come back, it’s in their blood to keep playing. Rooting for Chris to have a full recovery and he and Mike are back 100% soon.

  13. ChiBuc Says:

Joe, Rachel Watson comes knocking unannounced at your door and your hopes revolve around the food an drink she has to offer. Come on man! What’s next, you hope she brought her own Nintendo controller?

Until proven otherwise, Godwin is Jensen 2.0. Unfortunately, the realities for both Rachel and Chris are likely to disappoint

  14. 813bucboi Says:

some of you clowns act like bowles is doing something new with disclosing info regarding injuries lol….

every NFL team is vague about injuries except for the Browns and Jets of the world lol…

and yall can quit the Culp to WR talk lol….obviously the coaches dont trust him enough to be in the game…or he’s not healthy enough…regardless i trust the coaches…

IMO CG14 should be shut down for the season…he’s too big of an investment to risk for next year…plus ee2 & Tez have developed nicely…

we have enough weapons…what we need is a solid and consistent run game and an OC who will commit to it!!!!

    GO BUCS!!!!

  15. BucU Says:

“”ome of you clowns act like bowles is doing something new with disclosing info regarding injuries lol…. every NFL team is vague about injuries except for the Browns and Jets of the world lol…””

Oh really? Because Rhonde was asked that very question if other teams are as mysteriously vague with injuries on his show the other night by his cohost. He unequivocally said NO. Don’t take my word for it. Que it up on YouTube and see for yourself. It serves no purpose whatsoever to gaslight the fans and local media like they’ve done since the Jensen injury.

  16. Bucs since 76 Says:

Why wasn’t Chris put on IR after the injury? Then we could have traded for WR.

  17. jcscycles Says:

You do know Bucky practiced yesterday?

  18. Canabuc Says:

Bucs need Culp. We have a new d for a bigger faster player and he is right here on the roster

  19. BigZ Says:

Another JL failure. From my couch I knew you don’t resign a near 30 year old receiver with two big injuries in 3 years. OK, resign him but not at 22 mil. Davante Adams makes a bit more, night and day between the two. Adams is a HOF, Chris is not. Im not saying that we should of signed him, he is a west coast guy and wouldn’t come here.

I doubt a 30 year OLD CG returns to his mid 20s form.

However, CG and Reddicks money could have got us a true pass rusher or depth at DT. That would have made a difference.

  20. Beeej Says:

I remember Culp snagging 5 of 6 attempts for a fair chunk of yardage late last season, hoped that would continue this year. Read SOMEwhere he that he had a horrible camp with lots of drops

  21. BucU Says:

“”You do know Bucky practiced yesterday?””

The team had a “walk thru” yesterday.

  22. heyjude Says:

Agreed, BucU. If it rains, Todd gets blamed. If the sun don’t shine, Todd gets blamed. He’s not all Todd’s fault.

  23. Joe Says:

At least you’ll keep your fingernails clean.

    🙂

What’s next, you hope she brought her own Nintendo controller?

    Ha!

  24. 813bucboi Says:

    BUCU

so what would you and other fans get from the Bucs being completely transparent about injuries besides just knowing?

will you provide medical advice to the trainers?….
will you stop watching because you know the exact severity of the injury?….
    will you suit up?
will you create a game plan and give it to Grizz and Bowles?…

please tell me what would you do with the info and why is it so important to know the severity of a players injury?…lol…

    GO BUCS!!!!

  25. Winny Testaverde Says:

    Translation:

Let’s buy more time on what’s turning out to be a botched re-signing. Good for Godwin…couldn’t go to a more deserving player. But Licht may miss his Ring of Honor anointment if these re-signings/extensions continue to age badly.

  26. BucU Says:

“”please tell me what would you do with the info and why is it so important to know the severity of a players injury?…lol…””

Well let’s see here. Based on the many many posts from fans on this site I’d say that they feel a vested interest in the status of star players that have been out for almost 2 months now and all they get is the standard “they’re week to week” answers from Lord Bowles. And if you have to ask why fans think it’s so important to know the severity of an injury when you’ve gotten the same gaslighted answer for weeks going on months soon then you don’t understand fandom in the NFL.
Another words it’s a dumb statement from you.

  27. Bucs4Ever Says:

Reddick and Godwin are huge mistakes by Licht.

Wasted money that could’ve gone to better players.

Stop protecting Licht…he makes huge mistakes and is only here bc of Tom.

  28. MelvinJunior Says:

There’s that “hope” thing again for this group of Bucs.

  29. 813bucboi Says:

    bucu

    whatever clown!!!

as i said, providing details about an injured player gives the team no advantages…

please name a coach/team that gave details regarding an injured player and they’re return status on this weeks injury report….since “most” team arent that vague..

    GO BUCS!!!!

  30. GoneGator Says:

Hope IS ALL there is…. In spite of the cute cliches
