“They Don’t Crack”
October 20th, 2025It’s hard to figure out exactly how much Todd Bowles has improved as a head coach.
It’s obvious that he has, but to what degree?
Charlie Strong is a newcomer to Bowles’ staff this season, an outgoing guy with fresh but seasoned perspective.
Strong didn’t work with Bowles prior to 2025, but he says he sees a tough Bucs roster that’s wired like its commander.
“When you look our team right now, it carries a personality of our head coach,” Strong said. “And so you look at the wins where we came back late in the fourth quarter and won the games, they don’t crack. …The head coach doesn’t [crack]; that’s the way he carries himself and you see his personality you just know at some point someone’s gonna make a play. …
“But just the personality of the head football coach, nothing bothers him and he’s gonna continue to coach and that’s the way the team has carried on that personality.”
Strong said he continues to marvel at the makeup of the team. He noted that a coach usually looks around a roster to identify what players might cause a problem. On the Bucs, he said, there isn’t anyone.
Joe wants to see more consistency from the Bucs defense within games. Last week was a good start in that area.
Bowles sure seems to be a steady, consistent force, so it would be great if the Bucs could reflect that in their play, too.

Bucs on a Superbowl run! Let’s enjoy it while it lasts. Go Bowles!

They don’t crack. Except on defense, opponents’ opening drives, final drives of the first half and final drives of games. Other than that, the pass defense is mediocre.
YAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Let’s make sure the middle of the field is covered and not exploited.

Bucs get consistency from Bowles and Fire from baker. It’s seeming to be a nice blend.

Consistency will come as key injured players return after the bye week and late into season end.
That’s when you will see seasoned players return who will play well together because they have built comradery over time.

If Bowles dfense shows up tonight, Bucs win. If not, will be a long evening watching Goff diissect the secondary. Still not a believer in the D. Bucs are 5-1 but for the season the team is only +15 on points scored vs points allowed.

it isnt obvious that he has improved or to what degree. you have to be a homer not looking at the results to see that. they regressed in terms of playoff performance last year, and the defense has ineffective against the passing game. special teams has had issues.
i guess if todd isnt responsible for all sorts of unimproved things, for whatever reason, then if you blame all the bad or unimproved things on someone else, then i guess you could debate that todd has improved.
asking one of his staff how much he has improved is going to get a really great answer. lol. spin spin spin, more rat poison

Bowles has certainly grown as a head coach. It looks like he’s put on at least 30 pounds in the last few years.

Punt team cracks.
FG team cracks.
Dennis cracks.
Go Bucs!

Bowles has improved in the way the team has responded to falling behind and coming back and closing it out at the end of games. I think Bowles is at the point where he should give up his defensive coordinator job and purely be a head coach. His demeanor is right for the team. He just needs a more consistent defense which a younger coordinator could take his philosophies but updates them a bit and work more on toughening them up.

Todd has always been a good coach.
He’s now a very good coach.
He’s trending towards being a great coach.
I know the coaches we face respect the hell out of Todd.
Of course some of you are never going to give him props, will continue to blame him for things out of his control, and refuse him credit for any positives. Whatever. Go root for your dream boys Dan Campbell and Liam friggin Coen 🙄🤣

You are what your record says you are. (not original😉) What’s the W-L after six games compared to past years? At the end of the last few seasons, the W’s have gone up. No subtlety, no finesse in raw numbers, but a clear standard.

You’ve got a point, Ed. Todd is a good head coach. He seems to be a good defensive coordinator from what I can discern. I do see us playing better defense in the second half of games vs the first. I give Bowles the benefit of a doubt regarding the DC role.
Go Bucs! 6-1 after tonight!

If we had monte’s D with this offense, we would probably be the 2nd fl team to have a perfect record, wouldn’t that be something

I hope you’re wrong Aqualung about all the cracks you mentioned occurring tonight. It will be a long night if they crack on all areas you mentioned and I’ll give you credit for your insights. Whether the Bucs win or loss tonight, it is still a great start to the season especially given the injuries. And after the bye week, the team should be healthy and ready for a good second half.

6-1!!!!!!
GO BUCS!!!!!
