“Look For Mayfield To Rev Up The Tempo”

October 20th, 2025

Rookie playcaller Josh Grizzard.

Joe will open here with a plea to the Bucs’ organization.

Could somebody please tell Jon Gruden how to pronounce Josh Grizzard’s name? Gruden, aka Chucky, keeps screwing the name up on his various media and its embarrassing. Call him up and walk him through it. Grizzard deserves that respect.

During a recent video dissection of tonight’s Bucs-Lions game, Gruden talked about how he expects the Bucs to do everything they can to take advantage of the Lions’ inexperienced secondary.

“I look for [Baker] Mayfield to rev up the tempo,” Gruden said on his YouTube channel, adding he thinks the Bucs could be able to force the Lions into predictable coverages.

And that would be critical, Gruden said, because of how impressively Grizzard and Mayfield have been “shredding” defenses when it’s clear they know what defense is coming from the opponent.

It’s sure looks like Mike Evans will be cooking tonight after three games out with a bad hamstring, and the Bucs have enough firepower to score on Detroit. Joe’s concern lies in the defense’s ability play somewhat consistently and force a couple of turnovers. A shootout is not going to favor the Bucs.

The biggest problem is Montgomery and Gibbs, with a side of St. Brown.

And does Grizzard rhyme with lizard?

I think I’ll just go with the Grizz….😊

  2. Gipper Says:

Baker will start the offense with some quick out and/or slants to ME13. Get him into the game early. Would love to see Mike fake an out and up along the sideline. That should be a safe play taking the safety out of the coverage.

In total agreement, Baker is going to let it rip tonight along with Evans. Can’t wait. Go Bucs!

  4. Godlovesbucs Says:

I would be very tempted to have Dean travel with williams and parrish travel with amon ra.

  5. GenocideD Says:

Good question. Does it rhyme with Blizzard?
    GrizzerD
    or
    Grizz Ard?
    Gri ZZard?

  6. PSL Bob Says:

I believe it’s pronounced Gris zard, two syllables with the accent on the second. At least that’s how I’ve hear the announcers pronounce it. Joe?

  7. BucVoyager Says:

Interview time for Grizzard. Hopefully he’s up to the challenge.

  8. Aaron Says:

my worry is can our right guard and tackle keep Hutchinson from wrecking the game…

    Go Bucs!

  9. Ben the GA Buc Says:

Keep getting his name wrong, then maybe no one will know who he is when it’s time for interviews with other teams!

  10. Irishmist Says:

The Lions are down to 3rd stringers in the secondary. We should be in hurry up as much as possible so they don’t have time to get their defense set. That may result in some blown coverages, as well as keeping the pass rushers tired out.

Let’s ask Gronk……he’s good with names

  12. Stpetematt Says:

Why would a shootout not favor the Bucs? Our entire secondary is healthy. Theirs isn’t.

  13. LawrenceDawsey Says:

Gruden also pronounced Emeka incorrectly, calling him Emeeka. Lol

  14. BucVoyager Says:

People rushing to remember your name is a good problem to have. It means you’re doing something to make them care. Gronk’s flub will forever be the best.

  15. SenileSenior Says:

I would tend to go with grizz ard though I mostly hear it like lizard or wizzard.

I have also heard Jason Light’s name pronounced something like licked or lickt instead of light.

  16. MelvinJunior Says:

Yeah, but… Like, I was saying earlier this week! They can control the tempo/pace/clock/TOP by catching them ‘off-guard’ with going some ‘no-huddle’ at times (just because you go ‘no-huddle’ doesn’t mean you HAVE TO go fast… just get up to the line, force THEM to line-up and stay in their stance). Don’t allow them to ‘substitute’ different players and packages. Catch them off-guard when you can, to take advantage and EXPOSE THEM. Wear ‘em down. Hit ‘em with the ‘short to intermediate’ passing game. QUICK. Get-it outta Good Ol’ Bake’s hands FAST. “Basketball on Turf.” Dink & Dunk ‘em to DEATH, all the way up and down the field, using the ‘passing game’ as a part of your running game. And, with quick-hittin’ run-plays!!!!

  17. Jim in AR Says:

    Melvin, I like your plan.

  18. 813bucboi Says:

    6-1!!!!!!!!!

    GO BUCS!!!!!!

  19. HC Grover Says:

I always think bucs need 30 plus points. 30 plus is the edge with the Bowles defense.
