Lions 24, Buccaneers 9

October 20th, 2025

The Buccaneers’ offense was not ready for prime time in Detroit, despite keeping Aidan Hutchinson relatively quiet (no matter how much Troy Aikman insists on glazing the guy).

First, the Bucs offense struggled with noise, and then they struggled with just about everything else.

It was not Baker Mayfield’s night, definitely his worst game of the season. Rachaad White was underused and didn’t find much room. And all of Bucs fandom was in stunned sadness when Mike Evans left the field in the first half. He barely was able to walk off the field with concussion and shoulder issues after spending minutes on the ground.

The Bucs’ defense? Detroit punted four times, had two turnovers and failed on a fourth-down try. That’s about as good as it’s going to get against the high-flying Lions at home.

Detroit had averaged 37 points in their last six home games, scoring more than 30 in each game.

Yeah, the Lions carved the Bucs up on the ground and had their share of big plays, but again, Tampa Bay got the Lions off the field over and over and over. The Lions were a miserable 3-for-12 on third down before their final meaningless possession.

Joe was very encouraged by the Bucs defense with 7 tackles for loss. Imagine what would happen if Haason Reddick showed up? He left the game on a golf cart after an injury.

Emeka Egbuka was back on the field as a gameday decision with a healing hamstring, but he sure didn’t look himself — 3 catches for 28 yards on 11 targets against a bunch of backups in the Lions’ secondary.

Tez Johnson did some nice things when he wasn’t running into Bucs receivers.

Overall, the Bucs got bullied by the Lions but had a ton of fight in them.

Burn the film and focus on the slimy Saints on Sunday. Losing there is not an option.

Clowns. Way to read the power rankings losers.

  2. Evans hammy Says:

Keep it up and you can give it over to the crappy Falcons or maybe even the Panthers and we won’t even make the playoffs. Complete crap.

  3. SBucs13 Says:

    Totally outcoached and out played.

  4. Tackleblockwin Says:

Once in a while, everyone needs a good butt kicking.

  5. Scott Says:

We got spanked. Maybe we needed that.

  6. What it is Says:

    Out coached again

  7. LFG Bucs Says:

That sums it up perfectly Joe. Could have saved me the grief if I would have just read that first. 🤣

  8. Please make excuses. Says:

Excuses are the breakfast of losers. If you make any after this game, you are one.

  9. DmanTX Says:

Agree, burn the film! Let’s beat heck out of Saints next week and go into bye 6-2.

  10. MadMax Says:

Horrible game Baker…own it…..then bounce back.

  11. LongSeason Says:

We saw the real Baker tonight. More like he is the second coming of Randy Hedberg or Gary Huff.

  12. Scott Says:

Reddick is no better than JTS just way more expensive

  13. Regulator16 Says:

Standard Bucs primetime game. It’s what we do

  14. Please make excuses. Says:

We got out coached by Cro-Magnon man.

  15. Tampabaybucfan Says:

    Baker was off tonight…..way off

  16. DS Says:

Can’t win them all didn’t look good from the beginning

  17. Couch Fan Says:

For once this wasnt on Bowles. This ones on Baker.

  18. QBKilla Says:

Tez was running the wrong routes all night

  19. MadMax Says:

    Refs were horrible also though….

  20. DS Says:

Also would be nice to have a pass rusher the secondary is actually pretty good

  21. Frank Pillow Says:

Appreciate the heart that the D showed. Offensively, the game-plan was atrocious and 6 was bad. Didn’t run. Missed open guys. Sure, his OL played like a bunch of turnstiles—and it sapped the mojo. Worse, we lose Mike and Reddick. Also, Lions just gave everyone the blueprint for busting us up.

  22. Upstate NY Buc Fan Says:

Terrible play calling in the first quarter mixed with terrible referees!!! is a recipe for disaster and that’s exactly what happened!! I think we need a game like that to wake us up and unfortunately, I hate to say it, but this might be it for Mike!! go Bucs

  23. Chris from Gainesville Says:

Baker was terrible tonight. High on almost half his throws. Even the ones caught were a lot of times high. Typically he has a few bad drives on a bad night but puts it together for a half. This was his worst game as a buc. Hopefully he figures it out.

  24. unbelievable Says:

Offense bad all night. Baker off all night.

Refs completely hosed us on 2 reviews that gifted Detroit 2 turnovers. Seeing many non Bucs fans also yelling about how unbelievably awful the officiating was.

But the offense still blew it. Sloppy and unprepared.

We are def not the best team in the NFC, that’s for damn sure.

    Hope Mike is okay.

  25. Curse of Gruden Says:

Yes, out coached again in a prime time game.
Bowels has a low ceiling. Don’t get your hopes up too high my Buc brothers.

  26. Falconrap Says:

Can’t blame the receivers. Baker was missing passes all game to open guys. That alone left points on the board. And Evans may be out for the season if his collar bone is broken. Wonderful night. Maybe we’ll learn to play our DB’s the way Detroit does – man up and make them beat you. Soft zone sucks.

  27. Davyboy Says:

It was terrible to watch but it’s one game. It is extremely hard to play at the level they have been playing at with so many injuries. It takes a lot of effort to play good when you have lesser talent on the field. It was bound to happen. Regroup, get healthy and get back at it. It’s a long season. Onight was their night, next time we will own them. Don’t jump ship so easy. We are fine.

  28. TheScourge Says:

This team is average. Just like it has been since 2022. No better, no worse and it will not change. Sadly, it’s enough for some fans. Beat the Saints so we can all act like we’re “confident” in the current leadership again.

  29. JBuc40 Says:

For once Bowles wasn’t the problem. Totally out coached and terrible playing by Baker. Offensive Line was a little below mediocre at best (credit to Wirfs for recovering the fumble). Though playing the Lions, still expected better.

  30. Waterboy Says:

Agree with Tampabaybucfan. Baker had an off night. It happens, they just need to get back to the drawing boards and hopefully get some consistency at WR.

  31. Please make excuses. Says:

    MVP
    MVP
    Maybe valuation premature

  32. DBS Says:

Look at all these posters making up new names.

  33. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

When the refs over turn an overturned replay, you know the fix is in.

  34. firethecannons Says:

Reddick is on the milk carton–he is never in the middle of anything good.

  35. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

Riddick only on a 1 year deal I hope.

  36. LFG Bucs Says:

It was a textbook example about when you have a good pass rush, and can actually put pressure on the qb, that your secondary can be back-ups and practice squad guys and look good doing it. Take notes Licht.

  37. Weebs10 Says:

I would have taken 5-2 to start the season. The sky ain’t falling!!

  38. Bojim Says:

Over confident? Time to regroup. We’re still 5-2.

  39. Gipper Says:

Right side of Oline was bad tonight. Also, obvious that receivers were not getting any separation forcing Baker to check down underneath. Throw to ME was perfect but there was a no call PI on the play. Baker bad miss in end zone to Tez. Baker looked rattled tonight by relentless pressure and receivers not separating.

  40. DBS Says:

Won’t miss Reddick if he’s gone for the season. He has been invisible all season.

  41. Obvious Says:

I was good with the defense except the Gibbs burn. That cannot happen on a vet defense. If they earn it by driving down the field, so be it. But you can’t f up that alignment.

  42. ATLBuc Says:

Loved the D. Besides a couple of broken plays, we did great!! This loss lands squarely in the lap of Baker. He came out cold as usual but wasn’t able to shake it off. Defense played lights out. Offense, with the exception of Baker did great. The receivers caught the balls that were catchable.

  43. Rod Munch Says:

But how does this happen?!?! We won the week 6 power poll!

  44. Hodad Says:

Joe was encouraged by the Buc defense? They went right down the field on the opening drive putting us behind the 8 ball from the beginning. Dennis allowed big play, after big play. They gave up over 200 yards to a RB. I don’t care how good they were on 3rd down, they gave up too many big plays. That said, the offense was even worse. Baker had a bad night, play calling didn’t help. Why they started a rusty Jordan at RG is beyond me. He was beat like a drum all night. He should’ve been benched like Dennis should of. Bowles did not have his troops ready to go. Twice he punted from the 50 on 4th, and short in the beginning of the game. No balls. Going for 2 after our first TD was dumb. Chasing points at the start of the 3rd quarter made no sense. This is not a SB team, Bowles will never be a SB coach like Dennis will never be a good NFL MLB.

  45. DBS Says:

The receivers running into each other. Has to make blooper reels somewhere.

  46. BucaneroJim Says:

Bake doesn’t look right. Looked kind of sick and drugged… and limping, after. Did not notice one scramble from him for yardage.

  47. Mike Johnson Says:

Look we aWe gotta make sure we are ready for the Saints Sunday. we got a chance to go into the bye at 6-2. Pretty damn good. Sh.. happens. We got beat by a team that did their homework and outplayed us. We need the bye. Just don’t lose to the Saints.

  48. SavannahGABuc24 Says:

Mike went down bad. First his hamstring and then the concussion and shoulder injury. May be out for while. Unfortunately his 1000 yard streak may come to an end.

  49. 813bucboi Says:

    Very encouraged by the defense

    On to the next…

    Beat the saints

    GO BUCS

  50. Bucamania Says:

Need Goedeke out of flip flops

  51. HomerSimpsonRocks Says:

Baker was running for his life, but even when he had time, he had way too many Dilfer/Winston errant throws. Tez has some juice, but what TF is the deal running into other receivers 3 times? Voss sucks. They’ll need at least two inside linebackers next draft.

  52. Tucker Says:

Rough one fellas losing Mike was brutal Baker was off tonight missed some throws rough watch on to the next one lock it up boys time to stomp on the saints

  53. Les Says:

T lions had all there secondary starters out . Hard to attack that secondary when your running for your life back there .😁

  54. BucsFan81 Says:

We’re missing 2 starting offensive linemen, 2 starting WR and 1 starting RB. So yea I think the injuries are catching up with the team finally. Baker was off and the refs sucked.

  55. Oneilbuc Says:

Baker was bad this game it happens even Brady had a game where he threw 5 picks against Buffalo. I said it before Baker will have a bad game and it won’t be the last one.

  56. BUC4L Says:

I think when Baker goes back and watches film he will see how he rushed many throws. Oline actually did a pretty good job. Easy fix just has to settle his nerves. Mike Evans will be back for the playoffs because he is a baller! Defense played pretty good and I think Bowels sees something he likes with the young talent. Bucs if they play their cards right can win it all! Go Bucs!

  57. Zoocomics Says:

Boy, the rapid reaction post-game brings out in the worst in this fanbase. Smh.

  58. Beeej Says:

Why are there always a bunch of first time user names after a game like this?

  59. GenocideD Says:

Tez Johnson did some nice things when he wasn’t running into Bucs receivers.
^Bahahaha! Thanks for speaking the truth! Love this kid but he’s gotta get things figured out quick b/c we need him
