Defense Carries Bucs Into The Bye

October 27th, 2025

Bucs coach Todd Bowles.

How good has the Bucs’ defense been this year through eight games? Very good, the numbers say.

Here is where the Bucs are in various categories. Each category the Bucs’ defense is among the league’s top-10.

* Defensive touchdowns, two (tied for first).

* Tackles for loss, 50 (second).

* Strip sacks, three (tied for second).

* Sacks, 25 (third)

* Quarterback pressures, 131 (third)

* Takeaways, 12 (tied for third)

* Fumble recoveries, 5 (tied for third)

* Quarterback hits, 48 (tied for sixth)

* Interceptions, seven (tied for seventh)

* Yards per play allowed, 5.2 (ninth)

* Forced fumbles, six (10th)

* Passes defensed, 36 (tied for 10th)

The Bucs defense has carried this team into the bye. Allowing just 48 yards rushing is fantastic. And in the second half, the slimy Saints never ran one play in Bucs’ territory until there just under eight minutes left in the game. That is phenomenal.

The defense has basically saved the Bucs’ bacon. It has bought time for the Bucs to heal.

After seeing the Bucs’ offense spit and sputter through most of the game, it is critical they get some hurt players back. Especially on offense.

Bucky Irving, Luke Goedeke, where are you? Help!

    Heal up. Come out the bye swinging. Lot of football left!

    Go Bucs!

  2. HC Grover Says:

    Let Bake call the plays.

  3. Shak Says:

    Lol talk this to people who think the defense has been carried by baker all season.

  4. MadMax Says:

    Not good enough against the crooked refs….but how do you get around that bs? …..so stupid.

  5. MadMax Says:

    Btw, Im so proud of our guys…the rooks, the experienced finally getting a chance….lets just keep going with whats working….thats what we need.

    Now I know, it was against a 1 win team, but still, divisional rival, and guys were showing up.

  6. Sly Pirate Says:

    I’m surprised JMac isn’t working out yet.

    FOOL’S GOLD.

    Our D has given up so many early points it’s not even funny. Our D couldn’t get the better teams to even punt many times.

  8. Bucs Reality Check Says:

    THE SAINTS ARE TIED FOR WORST TEAM IN THE LEAGUE!

    Haha. The D padded some stats quite a bit from today’s game against a terrible team.

    Against the better offenses we’ve played the Defense could barely stop them.

    This Defense isn’t one of the best in the NFL, far from it.

  9. BucVoyager Says:

    iMac is lucky that he’s not paralyzed. Let him heal.

    Applauds to Coach Bowles and the defense. Job well done yesterday. Each week is better.

    We are missing Mike, Bucky, Chris, and Luke. Plus, thinking that Baker has an injury and being Baker played through it.

    We won! Go Bucs!

    You didn’t include Godwin. Should we read anything into that?

    Lol…referencing the title of the article “Said No, One!”… truly ironic and amazing how good our defense did yesterday.

    I’m actually a little surprise the Saints aren’t better… they have talent on both sides of the ball. Their goal line stands against us was one of the most embarrassing exchanges I think I may have seen in Bucs history given the context of how well we’ve played this season. And for those that question Bowles decision making… that second goal line attempt where we scored on 4th down, old Bowles would have taken the 3 points, instead he showed some balls there in close game punching it in, with Grizzard calling the same play that they stopped 7 or 8 times previously. Smh.

  13. BucU Says:

    Did ANYBODY hear Chris Braswell’s name yesterday? The invisible man strikes again. He should be cut immediately. A complete waste of another valuable 2nd rd pick. PATHETIC.

  14. KABucs Says:

    The negators come out early here
    Every team pads starts when they play a terrible team. We’ve played predominately good teams all season. The Seattle game was a unique shoot out that hurt the defensive stats and even with that the look good. This defence is aggravatingly streaky usually saving their best for late in the game. But they’ve been trending up over the last few weeks.

    why are the bucs 6-2? they have play makers at just about every position. on the whole they are not that great -ugly offense the last two games and a defense that anyone can pass over the middle on. the difference is someone is always making a play! a turnover at the right time, a catch of a deep ball… look for that to continue after the bye… frustrating team that continues to win! i love the bucs!!

  16. 813bucboi Says:

    BUCS HAVE A CHAMPIONSHIP DEFENSE!!!!!!!

    another game, another opponent under 20pts!!!!!!!

    keep eating crow chumps!!!!!!!

    6-2!!!!

    GO BUCS!!!!

    Chris Braswell’s big coming out party stats from the Saints game…
    0 TACKLES.
    0 ASSISTS.
    Cut this bum.

    BucU … ‘Did ANYBODY hear Chris Braswell’s name yesterday?’

    No I didn’t, BUT … saw 1 play in the 4th qtr where Braswell got to the QB faster than anything I’ve ever seen. Unfortunately for him, the QB started to roll out to his right just as Braswell ‘lunged’ (he was off-balance as he blocked through the Saints’ RB), and he missed getting a sack by inches.

    I was definitely impressed with his speed though. He was like a bullet getting back there. YaYa BTW does that periodically, but I don’t think he’s as fast as what I saw from Braswell. Just have to figure out how to harness that & turn it into sacks.

  19. Oscar Says:

    If the secondary continues to play the way they have been lately we’ll get more of the coverage sacks. The defense deserves a lot of credit for improving over the last 3 weeks even doing a pretty good job against Goff but Spencer Rattler isn’t anything great at this point in his career. Let’s not forget what Sam Darnold and the Seahawks did against this defense. And let’s not forget what Baker and the offense was able to do in that game. Right now the defense is pulling their weight and getting better. Other than losing Kancey for the year it has been healthy for the most part. The health of the offense has been a major problem all season to date.

  20. Oscar Says:

    When the defense plays well against Maye, Allen and Stafford, then it will really be time to get excited!

  21. firethecannons Says:

    We need to use Nelson more and Braswell less, simple as that. Nelson makes plays often, we need to take advantage.
