Can Zyon McCollum Repeat His Last Trip To Detroit?

October 20th, 2025

Ready for Detroit.

Last year Bucs cornerback Zyon McCollum was in his first season as a full-time starter. It didn’t take him very long to make an impact.

In Week 2 at Detroit, McCollum picked off Lions quarterback Jared Goff. He may need to do that again tonight — with others providing additional help. Since the beginning of the 2022 season, the Lions are 12-4 coming off a loss.

They lost last week on the road to the Chiefs. So for the Bucs to overcome the Lions, they will have to overcome the Lions’ history of the last three seasons.

McCollum, physically, is just fine after missing last week’s game with a thumb injury. He was walking around One Buc Palace the week leading to the 49ers game with his hand in a sling, even though it was his thumb, not an arm or shoulder, that was messed up.

McCollum said last week being made the thumb injury look worse than it was. The sling was nothing more than a precaution, he said.

On Saturday, Bucs coach Todd Bowles proclaimed McCollum just fine.

“He can do everything,” Bowles said.

Could “everything” also include, say, two picks? Or a pick and a sack-forced fumble? The Bucs, Joe fears, will need every break they can muster.

Both he and Dean are going to have to play lights out tonight. I think we’ll need a pick or two to win this game. A few sacks wouldn’t hurt either.

  2. ATLBUC Says:

I think we will dominate Detroit tonight

  3. TBBucFan Says:

The sling was to prevent the swing. No banging the sore thumb on a doorway or bumping into someone. Same discipline as holding a football high and tight. Wouldn’t doubt that Godwin’s fibula injury is receiving the same kind of cautious treatment. If it’s a bone bruise, there could very well be a significant bump on the shin bone. You can walk fine and probably run fine but if it gets hit again, whoa Nellie as the saying goes. Glad to hear Zyon is healthy.

Handicappers all in on Detroit. Line opened at Detroit -3.5 and is now -6.

  5. D-Mac Says:

Even if we commit a 6 lineman, like Durham, to block and chip on the edge, with their decimated secondary we should really be able to move the ball tonight. They will be missing both starting safeties and all three starting cornerbacks. Let that sink jn…

  6. Aqualung Says:

If the defense got the coaching the offense gets, Zyon wouldn’t be regressing.

  7. Allen Lofton Says:

To intercept a pass it helps to have strong 💪 hands to grasp the football. Can Mccollum’s thumb handle that coming off a arm cast and bandaged thumb.

I assume he can, but it may also depend on his pain tolerance. The playoffs rankings may come down to a THUMB. That’s what makes football interesting and fun to watch.
