Will The Eagles Adjust?

September 24th, 2025

Hall of Fame quarterback Kurt Warner speaks.

Hall of Fame quarterback Kurt Warner called the Bucs-Texans game in Houston for the national radio broadcast of Monday Night Football, and he also watched the Bucs-Jets game.

Warner came away stunned.

It seems Warner can’t understand why offenses seem paralyzed completely by Todd Bowles’ blitzes.

“He’s going to give you blitz looks and you better have an answer,” Warner said of Bowles. “The Texans had absolutely no answer. C.J. Stroud looked confused. They looked confused offensively; it’s what cost them the game. I couldn’t believe it that the Jets came back last week [against the Bucs] and they had no plan, and they had no answer for it. And it cost them the game.”

Warner went on to talk about how the Bucs will come after Eagles QB Jalen Hurts with a blitz barrage on Sunday and pressure is something Hurts has struggled with through his career.

As Bucs fans well know, Hurts is 1-4 against a Bowles defense.

Warner’s comments came today on The Rich Eisen Show, and the former Rams, Giants and Cardinals quarterback believes Hurts vs. the Bucs’ pressure packages will be the story of Sunday’s game.

Joe’s been listening to plenty of chatter out of Philadelphia and Eagles fans sure are unhappy with their new offensive coordinator. It almost sounds like Eagles fans don’t expect Kevin Patullo to have the answers for the Bowles defense, but they sure expect the Eagles to have just enough to knock off the Bucs.

The Eagles ran over the Bucs in 2023 by staying committed to the run, to the tune of 40 rushing attempts. The games where the Bucs took the Eagles to the woodshed were the Eagles abandoning the run when game flow worked against them.

In a close game the Eagles would be insane not to pound the ball as much as possible and wear down the Bucs line. The depth isn’t there, and by the 4th quarter (as we saw against the Jets) they’ll be fairly ineffective.

If the Eagles OC has half a brain, he’ll run Barkley 25+ times. Make the Bucs keep stopping him, and keep them guessing with play action.

Go Bucs, but this is going to be a hard game.

Looking forward to this game all offseason, I expected our guys to be 3-0 before all the injuries. They have shown supreme will in the face of adversity! Go Bucs! I’m putting more money on it!

  3. Saskbucs Says:

Barkley was mostly shut down and Hurts definitely was, the last time they were in Ray Jay. Saquon broke free on one run that saved his stat line otherwise he didn’t put up 40.

That was without their RT and 2 starting WR but I still think the run game gets stopped. Their OC should be scheming play action seam plays with Goedert, quick slants, comeback routes and using Barkley in the pass game coming out of the backfield praying Dennis is on him.

Put the pitbull Parrish on Brown, size mismatch but Dean prolly gets tossed aside by AJ.

I don’t think we have enough offensive linemen to get through this game. I’d hate to put Wirfs out there and ruin his year.

The only chance the Bucs have is to run the ball, over and over again. We can’t afford to drop back and pass, with the lack of skill on the line; Baker scrambles and then we get a holding penalty. Just run the ball and on Defense, play a run / blitz Defense. Hope to keep it to a low score game and let Baker b Baker late in the 4th.

I just hope win or lose, we don’t lose any more players to injury

I do not care one whit about our history with the Eagles. Some nice memories but the talent has changed significantly over the past two years, for both teams but especially the Bucs.

IF TW and CG are truly healthy and return it could be an interesting game.

    I echo Cardiac Kidz.

Oh, start throwing odds like that around and I smell a blowout. We are due for a letdown against Philly, sooner than later they will figure out RayJay. Hopefully they are atleast wearing their dark uniforms.

  7. David Says:

They are 3–0, but their offense has been very average and their defense is nothing like it was at the end of last year.

Their offense is simple, stop Barkley and contain Hurts. Their passing game has not amounted for much.

If their line is now Wirfs, Brederson, Barton, ?, Heck, w/help from Otton and Godwin is joining Egbuka and Shepherd, they should win this.

  8. Greg Says:

I expect the Bucs to come with balanced offensive attack. With the O line constitution they can’t just run the ball. No way. They will adjust the pass calls to run and pass. Definitely more TE involvement.

  9. 76doug Says:

Does anybody really listen to Kurt Warner? The 42nd ranked total passing yards in league history qb, who had the absolute best playmakers in the league at the time and won 1 SB. How he made the hall of fame with only 3 good passing seasons is unbelievable.

  10. 76doug Says:

Forgot to add that every Bucs fan favorite, Jameis, had the same amount of 3500 yards or more seasons as Warner.

    who’s covering brown

  12. Aqualung Says:

What Todd has shown Nick is, if Nick is within 21 at the start of the 4thQ, Eagles have a 50-50 chance of winning the game. Although this time, it’s likely the Bowlees Bucs are down multiple scores to begin the 4thQ.

Then let Baker do his comeback magic! See?

    Genius!!!

  13. garro Says:

Warner aint wrong. We have a blitz master and Hurts has issues with it. Combine that with the front four and LVD really getting after it last Sunday?

If we can somehow get a good two score lead, The Fleagles have got trouble. Start fast Baker!

    Go Bucs!

  14. Stpetematt Says:

I wanna see Culp run a seam route along the edge of their zone defense. He could house it as nobody is going to catch up with him.

  15. Hodad Says:

True measuring stick, but this game won’t mean much in January. Last year we whipped them in game four, but they went on to win the SB.

  16. orlbucfan Says:

Enter the ref factor, and as last Sunday so “eloquently” illustrated, it is a factor. Scratching my head. CG14 and EE2 playing makes me feel a little more confident. Bucs have to be set to beat 2 teams, and they must bring their A game. As Hodad points out, the win last year is a measuring stick. However, eaglets went on to win the SB.

  17. Tampa2ATL Says:

Eagles fans complain no matter what.

  18. Watzz Says:

    Pssshh! Go Bucs!!

  19. Les Says:

WILL SEE , BEAT UP AS WE ARE .WE ARE AT ALMOST HALF STRENGTH. ! SUCH A LET DOWN FROM WERE WE STARTED ! HAD HIGH HOPES LIKE EVERYONE ELSE BUT INTILL WE GET SOME MAJOR PLAYERS BACK WERIFS, GODWIN, EVANS JALEN WHO WAS COMING ON STRONG AND LUKE KODECKI AT RIGHT END ,IT WILL BE TOUGH .
